First time here, my sandwich was just right, tasty and hot. They also have a good variety of fresh coffee. I recommend the Costa Rica coffee. Service is a little slow, I do think they can do better but it's fear. Parking is on the street but it's not a proven if you get there before 11am. Cape May get pretty crowed and I believe this place is a hidden gem in town. Definitely recommend. read more

Overpriced and disgusting, completely screwed up my order through Uber. Gave me 3 wrong items, I order a scrapple, egg, & cheese on a bagel they gave it to me on a wrap. I ordered a egg salad on a bagel, they gave me Waldorf chicken on a wrap (thank god Im not allergic to nuts) I ordered a rio wrap and they gave me the most disgusting cheesesteak bagel Ive ever seen with a embarrassing amount of meat on it. Had the nerve to not call to tell me they didnt have certain items or that they were changing things without my knowledge or permission but I guess its okay to just take people's money and give them hilariously bad food and service. Save your money, greedy owners and staff that obviously want to work somewhere else because no one in there cares. Just because it has the name "Avalon" in it does not make it anything that tells you they care abiut the community they serve. I echo every other reviewer here, but the woman behind the register was very rude. We ordered plain bagels (not toasted, no cream cheese), and she got upset because she didn't know ahead of time we wanted five bagels, and she kept giving us a nasty look every time she had to add another bagel to the order (we ordered them all on the same check, not on spectate checks); it was bad enough for me to write this review. Average bagels. No way near a NNJ bagel. Ordered a garlic with scallion. They don't have garlic...say what? Anyway, small little bagel shop. Coffee was piping hot and average. The staff didn't smile but were quick/efficient. Line moved quick...actually no one was waiting because no one was there but us...meh. Sadly, I found the staff very rude. They roll their eyes and are bothered by any and all questions. I'm on vacation and couldn't believe how cold and annoyed they were to their paying customers. This is a very confusing entry. The sign on the store says "Beans Bagels and Buns" but they answer the phone "Avalon Coffee Compnay", which is further confused by the location which is Cape May. The frozen coffee drinks are pre-sweetened, but tasty. Good selection of tea. read more

I punctured the valance on the front of my car on a re-bar sticking out of the concrete stop in front of Avalon Coffee, Rio Grand. I found out the owner of Avalon coffee owns a strip mall, I called and reported the incident. I was concerned that if somebody tripped and fell they would become impaled and punctured the same as my valance. When I came back the next day to talk to the owner, someone had pounded the hazard into the concrete stop, which to me admits guilt. When confronted the owner denied there was an issue. When I produced a photo he was very rude and arrogant. I was told he would not do anything about it for me to take it up with my insurance company so they could file against his insurance company. I reported the entire incident including photos, estimate, my account of the situation to my insurance company. Because the damages were not over my $500 deductible, more like $125, I am left with a bitter taste in my mouth, coincidently bitter like coffee. Needless to say, haven't been back to Avalon Coffee, nor will it ever return! read more

We asked if the smoothies were made in house, no added sugar with fresh fruit and were told yes and that's correct. Wrong! Turns out it's sugary fruit mix from a bottle mixed with a banana, and not 100% fresh fruit. Will go someplace else next time. Place had great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Bagels were fresh and everything was cooked well. However, I still left with a bad taste in my mouth due to the rude staff members. The Boomer working the register was rude to my father who had trouble using his card. She has no business working directly with customers. The other staff just stood there doing nothing. Went in to try a new coffee/bagel shop and was not super disappointed! With the size of the shop, I believe the selection is decent. They have a variety of cream cheese spreads! I do wish they toasted the bagel a bit longer but that's just personal preference. I think it's a bit pricey compared to a few other places, but the quality is very good. I got a vanilla latte(delish) while my boyfriend got an iced coffee(not good). Another plus is that they accept credit cards! Most CM places are cash only so that gives them an advantage. The location is ideal as well since it's right next to the beach! Avalon also has a decent size patio. Will definitely be back for sure! read more

I like finding a place to get decent morning coffee when I'm on vacation, and Avalon is the place in Cape May. It's self serve, too, so I can approximate the half-caf mix I usually brew at home. Nice folks inside, and a good selection of bagels & sandwiches if you want a little food to go with your breakfast. If you're up early like I am, get a coffee here and you'll have the nearby beach pretty much all to yourself. read more
