The pastries were absolutely delicious. I liked this spot because it's a good grab and go-not many lines. They have cute tables outside to enjoy your breakfast and watch the boardwalk. They also offer coffee and breakfast sandwiches. We had a chocolate croissant which was so good and a blueberry scone. We also split a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on ciabatta bread. On a recent trip to Cape May I discovered Madison's bakery. I normally wake at 5:30 and went for a walk around 6:00. I arrived just as they were opening up. The staff could not have been friendlier. The coffee was just right and the sticky buns were better than advertised. I made walking there each morning part of my routine. I went all week. The employees are very friendly and we got breakfast there all week and they make great coffee. My daughter loved the dirty banana drink they had. When in cape May- stick with the savory and just eliminate the idea of sweet from your mind. We went to the location Beach on Easter morning for an early morning treat. We got 4 items and while the white cream filled was fresh, light and a solid donut-- the rest were straight up terrible. The absolute worst was the $7 cinnamon roll. The roll was light on flavor, had a stale dense rubbery consistency and made me feel ill. I do not know when or where these things were made but they were not made there, they were not fresh and they were not good. Long story short-- skip the donuts/rolls. The bakery was very packed yet the line moved fast with the wonderful service! It's definitely a do over for us as they open relatively early and have good prices. We tried their doughnuts and turnovers, and overall they were great although they're on the smaller side. Very cute bakery that is known for their cinnamon rolls! They are huge! I was a really big fan of the cinnamon roll in the cup because it's layered with custard and topped with whip cream. It's rich but very very good and much easier to travel with than the regular cinnamon roll. read more

Madison's is known as the best sticky buns in south jersey. What is a sticky bun you may ask? I would describe it as a sister to a cinnamon roll except, ditch the cinnamon and add caramel. It is absolutely DELICIOUS. The line of the store is out the door starting at 6 AM. If you're lucky to catch them with extras in the afternoon, be sure to grab the buns because they are perfection. I wanted to try the cinnamon rolls also but I didn't get a chance. They are soft, sweet, decadent, and must be eaten warm. If you're eating it cold, you're doing it wrong. We only saw 1 employee who seemed overwhelmed with a coffee order, and when we asked, told us the sticky buns were sold out. So we decided to go to the beachfront location. There we were greeted just inside the door by an employee loudly announcing almost everything was sold out. We saw sticky buns, and when we asked, they told us they did have those. We got 2 plain ones and an orange soda. The cost for this was $17.50. I laughed--and thought it was a mistake. Nope. Each bun is $6.50 now!! So we paid that money and went back to the first one to get a donut. The service was poor and the negative attitudes coming at us from the workers was even worse. You need to learn how to manage your inventory better!! And it would help if your people had customer friendly attitudes. The orices speak for themselves. read more

Can't vouch for South Jersey as this was the first time I'd been to Cape May and the lower half of the Jersey Shore. But by god if it's not "The Best Bakery in Cape May." Lemme explain. Cape May, we love you but you're kinda sucky when it comes to two very critical things: bagels and pizza. However, you more than make up for it in ice cream and donuts. Everything in balance. Well, the donuts at Madison's for sure. And the chocolate croissants were The Best I've Ever Tasted and I've Been to Old Hapsburg Cities in Europe Where That Kinda Pastry Is Practically A Religion. My sister absolutely loved the gluten free choc chip muffins; she just wished there were more GF choices... And the service was fantastic! Very friendly and fast. I also got there at a great time. grandfather ordered 2 half dozens and the price was $100. He relooked at the receipt and said he gave a $25 tip which he never did. At first the female cashier stated he must've pushed a button but he said he never pushed anything. A male worker gave my Poppop a $25 refund which was nice. The food is good but overly expensive for no reason. I would never go back due to the automatic $25 tip and it makes me wonder if it was on purpose due to him being older.
