This place just gives me all of the good feels. First all, Weston is my favorite. The Avalon Cafe sits atop the hill at the top of the main street in the city and overlooks the quaint beauty that is Weston, MO. The Avalon Cafe is very classy while also remaining rustic in both the exterior and interiors. The service is great and our waitress on this most recent visit of mine was lovely and personable. My friend and I ordered the special (seafood alfredo) and it was divine. I can't quite recall what my mother or my friend's mother ordered, but there were zero complaints across the board. The wine was wonderful and they made us some fun mixed drinks to start with. One of the best things about The Avalon Cafe is that when you are ready to leave, everything else in Weston awaits you and is just a short walk down the hill. We visited a winery, O'Malley's and more just on our walk "back to our car". It ended up being a full night! read more

Restaurant nestled at the top of Main Street. Beautiful patio that overlooks the quiet and scenic town. We ordered a bottle of wine and champagne which was nice to see a good selection. I ordered the Cajun burger which had good flavor and also tried the Chicken kabobs. Food was good and service was fine. To be honest I was pretty disappointed with my meal here. It wasn't awful by any means but it was just okay. When you walk into a restaurant with white table cloths you definitely expect better than "just okay" food. They serve you nicely baked bread with a garlic butter that was nice. For my dinner I had the pasta primavera. I truly hope I just chose the wrong menu item, because the sauce was pretty bland. The veggies were cooked very nicely and the grated cheese on top was nice (because it was about the only thing adding flavor to the pasta/sauce) We also tried their bread pudding and it was pretty good, but if you've ever had Charleston's bread pudding it doesn't even compare Considering how busy Weston got on a Saturday we were lucky to be able to walk in and get seated right away. The people working there were also extremely kind and quick. Again I've only been there one time, so based on some of the other reviews perhaps I just chose the wrong thing for me. read more

We were really disappointed! I had the filet which wasn't prepared how I ordered it in addition to being served lukewarm. My husband did like the fish he ordered but my son ordered the ribs and they weren't even as good as many chain restaurants. We all thought the food was rather bland as well. This was my first visit for dinner. There were three of us on November 5, 2022. We sat near the fireplace and the atmosphere was nice but fairly noisy. Service was sufficient but not overly attentive. As I ate my very mediocre soup and entree, I was jealous of the fabulous entree salad I saw delivered to the table next to us. I might come back in the future but I'll never order an entree again. Here was our experience: I order the baked brie appetizer for the table. It was good but fairly small for $15. The bread served with it was very good. I had a bowl of the Gumbo ($10) which lacked in flavor and the shrimp were fairly tough. My entree was the Beef Tips and Pasta ($22). I would describe this more as tiny bits of beef jerky with pasta. My husband tried it and said it tasted like Beef Lo Mein you'd pick up in a box from a Chinese restaurant. I did not mind the flavor. I just felt that the beef was minimal and not what I've had before in menu items described as "beef tips." It was a very low quality dish. My husband and the third guest both ordered Herb Crusted Salmon for their entree ($28). The reviews here were mixed. My husband said the overall quality of the entree was not that much better than a Mrs. Paul's fish stick from the freezer section. Our other guest actually liked it. The salmon is a cheaper cut and obviously not wild caught so the price seemed a bit high for that. Both guests agreed that the squash side was inedible and there was no way the cook had tasted it. They described it as so salty there must have been a mishap with an entire container of salt getting dumped into the dish. So overall, I'd never order a dinner entree here again. I might return for a salad at lunch-time as those are pretty hard to screw up. read more

Restaurant is clean and respectable. Stairs to get up to it but there not to horrible. The bread and butter is to die for, but I'd like to have seen some upper scale Italian items on the menu for the price and based on the white cloth setting. Bathrooms are clean but a little tight. Service was good, water I'd recommend this restaurant investing in a purifier or water softener as it tasted like dirt (which is still better then nothing when you've been out all day in the heat). Overall decent little place but for the price would have just expected a few upper class / ridge items such as good water and checking on the customers after there first few bites etc to make sure all is well. read more

Brunch here last month with a sizable group of women, all different orders, all different tastes, separate checks, etc. The server dropped a drink on one member of our group right off the bat but handled it with aplomb, treating that lady and several others to a breakfast cocktail and doing an admirable job of keeping up with our table, so kudos! I got French Toast, which I NEVER order and it was incredible. We shared some orders of biscuits and gravy as well which was delicious. I don't get up to Weston regularly but would certainly make another trip up to dine here, it's a perfect "take your mom to brunch" place if you're into the little shops and such as well. read more

The charming ambiance of this 1848 home-turned-bistro is captured in the quaint, private dining rooms, attentive dining staff and amazing food. We were seated immediately on a slow Thursday night and brought fresh bread with herb butter as we waited for the rest of our party. I loved the wood-work details hinting at the restaurants history. The recently added patio area looks amazing for the warmer months, but we stayed indoors on this chilly night. I loved my salmon with tomato chutney (~$22). My husband enjoyed his chicken in white wine-artichoke sauce (~$18). Our other friends enjoyed the specials: potato crusted sea bass and double cut pork chops. Each entree was served with roasted potatoes and an artful array of veggies including lima beans, red cabbage, squash and green beans. The high quality of the seafood and veggies was impressive, and this establishment is definitely a standout in Weston. The wine list was solid and I greatly enjoyed my Pinot Noir. They also offer all the O'Malley's brews, appropriate since they are next door to the brewery. My friend had tried the brunch there and said the omellettes were excellent as well. The atmosphere is quaint. The tables have a nice 'space' around them, so you have some privacy when dining. If its not very busy the servers can be attentive. Otherwise distracted. Selection is wide from salads to entrees of Stuffed Quail. They include a large selection of pasta dishes to choose from. Pasta entrees start at around $12 and other entrees around $18. Sides I've had homemade pickled red cabbage, carrots with nutmeg, roasted garlic potatoes and seasoned white beans. They will make sure you have all the bread and herb butter you would like. The salad is so good, I loved the blue cheese and almonds they offer with it and the bites of fruit that frame the salad. If you just want a burger they can dish that up too. Some of my favorite for a quick, inexpensive bite is their wood-fired personal pizzas. read more

Seriously awesome place!! As many others have said, it's a house that's been transformed into a restaurant. Each room has 8-9 tables; I can see having a great little get together there! Great menu is truly eclectic! Ostrich, wild boar, and duck, oh my! My husband and I tried a little bit of everything... We started with the Wild Mushroom Ragout and a cup of white bean chili. I will have to say that it was not what we expected (which was a pastry purse filled with mushrooms and a white chili) but it was still delicious. Instead, the mushroom dish was a ramaken with this delicious mushroom stew poured over a puff pastry. They use so many different type of mushrooms, it was amazing! The chili is a tomato based chili but with chicken and white beans - very thick and satisfying. For dinner, my husband ordered the stuffed quail which was cooked perfectly and stuffed with a really yummy pancetta rice. I ordred the duck with lingonberry sauce which was AMAZING!! And don't worry about portions because every entree comes with a variety of sides: asparagus, white beans, homemade pckled red cabbage, garlic mashed potatoes AND carrots. It's really a ridiculous amount of food but every bite was worth it. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed; you could wear casual clothes to a blazer and day dress if you wanted. I wouldn't go in a suit and cocktail dress though. read more

I think I am running out of 5 start reviews to give to the town of Weston but their quality and service keep impressing me. Had a large group dinner here on our first night in town. We had a private room to ourselves which was nice that we could be a bit loud. I started with the bruschetta which was probably the most underwhelming thing at our table that night. It was more of an eggplant crostini. Simple and good but not worth the price tag. I had a signature steak burger and my partner had the quail. Both dishes were great. I would have liked to have seen some more thought out into the side dishes as everyone at the table was just given an assortment of farm to table veggies. Could elevate them a bit. The most impressive dish at our table was a 10oz beef tenderloin. The scale must have been broken because it was at least 15oz. It was cooked to perfection and I was lucky enough to snag a bite. Never have had a piece of meat that was so buttery before, no chewiness. In conclusion, skip the appetizer and spend your $$$ on the entree. read more

We came here for anniversary date night and were really looking forward to the evening. We left very disappointed. The patio seating is lovely and staff seems very friendly. The food and drinks which are the pinnacle of the entire atmosphere left A LOT to be desired. We ordered the mussels, beef tip pasta, and pepper tenderloin. Not one thing struck us as amazing. Also we had to ask for water refills and bread, which most tables got as complimentary. The bottle of wine we received was good, but the cocktail we ordered was not good and watered down. For the price we paid, we were highly disappointed. We will not be returning again and unfortunately we cannot recommend it to others. read more

Couple colleagues and I got really lucky last night (Valentines) and the staff set us up at a small side table in the bar-they were totally booked out with reservations, and I can see why. We all started off with the Brie soup that our server recommend-delicious combination with a craft beer and the bread and garlic butter. Then steaks-I had the 6 oz filet medium rare and it was perfect melt in your mouth. My buddies had flan for desert but I went for the red velvet cheese cake-so good and lighter in the tummy than I thought it was going to be. Great service, excellent food. I have eaten here while visiting Weston multiple times, but this was the first time having dinner. Let me say, it was Amazing! The dinner menu had a wide selection, from steaks to chops to fish and chicken. The service was great, and particularly a nice atmosphere. I ordered the wild bore, and Lena and I split it, and they divided it up and brought it out on two plates, very nice. I also tried the seared ahi tuna, which was truly incredible. The mushroom bisque was basically some of the best soup I have ever had. I would recommend this place for dinner to anyone, I thought it was much better than the brunch. read more

After reading many positive reviews we made this @Avalon a stop. I had the snapper (the special) and my husband had the elk loin. My fish was over cooked and dry. And both dishes were the exact same except for the protein! That's a culinary no-no - makes the chef look lazy or that the kitchen is cleaning out the fridge and serving left overs. Don't know who thought it was a great idea to pair snapper with navy beans but the entire dish (both dishes) were disappointing on many levels. My boyfriend and I made a reservation weeks ago to eat here for our anniversary dinner and were looking forward to sharing an intimate dinner. The restaurant was beautiful, and our food was delicious (We shared an appetizer of crab cakes, then I had the halibut special and Al had a burger.) However, our evening was marred by the fact that we were in a smaller room with a large party of 10 at the other tables. The rooms are all hard surfaces, which meant that we were unable to hear each other over the noise from the other party. We asked the waitress if we could move to another table, and were told nothing was available. About the time our entrees arrived, we were told there would be another table for us shortly, but we were never moved. My husband and I really enjoyed our trip to Weston, and had an enjoyable meal at the Avalon. Nestled in a old house, we had a very private table in the front dining room. It was a perfect table. Attentive staff made sure our water glasses remained full and our bread an butter warm right out of the oven. We enjoyed seasonal soft shell crabs for and appetizer, these were delicious! I had a seafood pasta chocked full of mussels, shrimp, salmon and whitefish. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy and the sauce was not too heavy. My only complaint was the salmon had a very strong fishy flavor. My husband ordered the wild boar because how often do you see that on a menu? While the presentation of the dish looked wonderful, the meat was inconsistent, one piece was tender, one was very rare, one was overcooked and tough etc. The flavor of the meat was good, but he didn't feel the quality of the meat was satisfactory. After our meals we shared bread pudding, it was dense but not overly sweet. It actually reminded me of cream of wheat...nice, but I was anticipating a little more of a 'sweet ending'. Compared to the other games in town, I think this place is a great choice for a romantic evening. If I am in Weston again, I will return. read more

I don't know where to begin. Began my course with a baked Brie appetizer. Bread, butter, garlic, Brie cheese. So good! Next up, I had the special of the evening; lobster Mac N Cheese. Honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten. Next up, I had the bread putting that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. My wife has a piece of the pumpkin cheesecake. Holy cow, their desserts are to die for. The only thing better than the food was the people; our service was great, and chef/owner Dave came out and personally asked us how the meal was. Ate the grilled pork tenderloin sandwich, the cup of gumbo. Starting with the sandwich, generally lacking flavor except for the overpowering smoke flavor. My assumption is liquid smoke was used while applying grill marks. The less likely answer is they over smoked the meat. The gumbo was more akin to seafood soup. The consistency and clarity of the broth/ liquid was off. I didn't detect a roux at all and assume they aren't basing there gumbo on the roux. Overall the meal wasn't great. The chicken pesto linguini:chicken was cooked perfect, but there was very little basil or pesto visible or in the flavor profile. read more

We had a nice Saturday afternoon lunch on the patio. Very welcoming staff, especially nice for our first time. I had the Cobb salad with the Brie soup. Nice sized portions. The only thing I would have enjoyed more was bigger bites of chicken. My husband enjoyed the Weston Chicken salad. Again nice portions and nothing too extravagant.
