I've been very impressed with Avalanche so far. However, I haven't got too adventurous in my selection of toppings. I'm a cheese and pepperoni guy, and I don't think I'm maximizing the value of having a pizza joint like Avalanche. That being said, their pepperoni pizzas are very good. The crust and sauce are delicious. Everything seems to be of a very good quality. The prices are pretty expensive though. I usually only order from here when I have a coupon. read more

Truck yeah man, If you're in Athens I suggest checking out Avalanche Pizza, I've never had any pizza quite like it. Avalanche seems to live by the wise words of Mary-kate and Ashley Olsen "Ahhhhh put it on the pizza!". I say this because they have a pie for every oddball pizza you have a taste for. which is what makes it so stinking unique. Don't go here if you are looking for just a pep and cheese. There isn't anywhere in this joint to sit and enjoy your pizza, so its a place where you order to go. I would say check it out at least once if you are planning a trip to Athens. read more

To make matters worse I called the manger to remedy the situation and the best he could offer was half off on the next cold pizza. The pizza is excellent! It is easy to see how they have won so many awards. The only negative is that they don't have seating at the restaurant, so it is a little tough for someone just passing through to grab and eat. Really it is good enough to justify sitting in the parking lot to eat though. read more

When my brother was going to OU for school this pizza would be what we'd order anytime that I'd come up for a visit. Sadly, my brother is no longer a student at OU and I miss the beautiful love-affair I had going on with Avalanche pizza. The great thing about this place is that you can create just about any pizza that your inventive little mind can dream up. Kimchi pizza? They've got it. A roasted garlic + roasted potato pizza with feta cheese? You can get one of those as well. You have the choice of shrimp, oranges, fresh mushrooms, canned mushrooms, gorgonzola, corn, ricotta, teriyaki sauce, steak and plenty more delightful offerings for all of your 'best pizza ever' concocting needs. They also offer several crusts to put all of those toppings on, including one made with spelt. If your brain is feeling a little fatigued and you aren't in the mood of inventing your own pizza creation they offer some pretty tasty and interesting signature pizzas, including a vegan offering. Avalanche has won quite a few awards over the years for their tasty pizzas if that means anything at all to you. Depending on what you order the prices can be a bit higher than regular pizza joints but, that doesn't bother me too much since Avalanche isn't your regular pizza joint. You can get three one topping 10 inch pizzas for around 14 bucks and that's usually what my brother and I would do. It would always feed both of us and leave us with left-overs for later but, when we'd have the extra cash we'd go for the three 10 inch pizzas with three toppings for 18 dollars and really create the pizzas of our dreams. read more

They have some great signature pizzas or if you would like to make you own, they have a ton of toppings to choose from. Their Boulder sandwiches are colossal and almost too big to eat but delicious. Coming from Chicago to the Athens area I thought one of the areas that would take the biggest hit was food, specifically pizza and Mexican. Well I have to admit that Avalanche Pizza has made me forget most Chicago pizza, its that good. From adventurous toppings and combination's to great prices this is a very good place. The crust is crisp and tasty and the toppings are fresh. When you can get a one-topping thin crust pizza and you think it doesnt need anythign else, its a good pie. I was in Athens for one night in November of 2010 and I was lucky enough to come across a menu for Avalanche at my hotel. The menu/selection is amazing for a pizza place. They offer so many different types of toppings and options that anyone should be satisfied. The pizza was amazing and really made my one night stay in Athens memorable. Just popped through town and found this gem. Take out only, so we took our pizzas to go and ate at the park by OU. Went with the Godzilla and Hawaiian pizzas, which kids and adults loved. I used to live in Athens and I remember when Avalanche came to town. At first they were a bit ho-hum and were quick-catering to the cash-strapped college student. This quickly changed. Now ... well, now it's an entirely different playing field. If I remember correctly, they've even competed in a tv pizza contest on Food Network? Walked away with some award? Regardless, what sets them apart and what keeps us coming back on any trip home, is that they do simple with elegance and they do complex with a panache that will make you want to dance in the streets. We got there and immediately​ started to discuss all the options this place has to offer and all the good reviews we had heard... and once we sat down and ate our pizzas, we had to agree! I have eaten Avalanche Pizzas several times and have liked them. Tonight I ordered a gluten-free pizza (12 inch) with the toppings for a Chicken Florentine Pizza. When I got home and started eating, I realized there was no chicken on it. The pizza was $23.90, which is high for a pizza with cheese, spinach, and pesto, so I called. The young man who answered the phone was very kind. He apologized and asked if I'd like some sort of credit and I said yes. He asked his manager, and she nixed it. And I like the fact that the folks working there always seem to be happy to be working there... unlike when you go into some chain pizza place where everybody seems to hate each other. I came in for an overnight stay for a conference, and wanted a local place that I could pick up and bring back to my hotel. The store was busy, but the staff was great! Super friendly in light of their many orders. I waited a little bit for my order - but it was well worth it. For $11 I got a calzone and cheesy bread order that could feed 3! Be prepared for a bad attitude! I called to place an order last night and asked how long the wait time was for carryout. I was told 20 minutes. The last time I ordered carryout, I was told 40 minutes, but 40 minutes ended up being an hour and a half. I don't mind a longer time, but I'd rather pick up my food when it is ready, instead of sitting in a crowded lobby with angry hungry people. Knowing it was a busy weekend time, I just wanted to know if they were backed up, and if I should plan extra time. The person I spoke with gave me a serious attitude and told me I was rude for asking if the 20 minutes was accurate. So, I decided not to inconvenience them by placing an order- and they have lost a customer. There is no shortage of places to get pizza in a college town, I'll stick with the ones where I don't get an attitude for wanting to place an order. read more

The pizza was good. The toppings were plentiful. There was nothing that I truly would complain about...nor rave about. It was definitely not pizza that had me craving for more. It was not even pizza that I would care if I ever had again. It was average at best. Better than Little Ceasars, Pizza Hut, or Papa Johns. New to the area, heard Avalanche was the place to go for the best pizza. While they do have an extensive list of toppings, the service is horrible. Waited 40 minutes at Avalanche and was then given the wrong pizza. Was told it would be another 40 minutes for them to remake my pizza because they had "other orders to fulfill and other people waiting too." I asked for a refund instead and was told it would be at least 15 minutes to process one and could they just give me a credit instead. I took the credit although I probably won't go back for it. The hassle wouldn't have been such a bother if the manager hadn't been so inconsiderate about the whole situation. read more

I have ordered multiple pizzas, and given multiple chances but I just can't do it anymore. Is something wrong with your ovens?? Why is the middle of my pizza always soaking wet and soggy? I get maybe 4 solid pieces before I have to throw the majority away. And then I'm out $15+ bucks and have consumed more grease than I could ever need. I have tried clicking "well done" I have tried cutting it differently, I have tried different crusts. Something is wrong with either the baker, or the oven. Like Casa Nueva, this place makes me feel lucky to live in Athens. And although I have had what probably was better pizza, (I was born in New York!) this place is it's own unique and addictive beast. The crust is not quite as "doughy" as mid-western pizza can be, and that is a good thing. What really sets this pie apart is the 50+ pizza toppings you have to choose from. You can be a mad scientist when deciding on a topping combination! (IE: Shrimp and cashews, bacon and kimchi, ect.) Amazing pizza - crust was exceptional. Not too thin, not too thick. The three pizza deal gave all of is a chance to try a variety of toppings and share, which was nice. Italian sausage very tasty as was pesto. I was too overwhelmed by their huge list of specialty pizzas to choose one bit next time I will. Another plus - dessert!
