This place is good for a quick bite late night, which is exactly when I had it. I wanted something hot and filling, and nothing else was open on the street. No seating available when you have to wait for your pizza, $20 for a half sheet of pizza "8 slices" it's a decent size but not for only two options of pizza that being Pepperoni and plain cheese. It's a local business, Ran by students, Providing good cheap food, Cool atmosphere, Awesome Staff, and Open Late. Honestly anyone that complains about the variety of toppings can go cry some place else because the union shop will have specialty pizzas every day around noon time, and the late night pepperoni and cheese slices are all made fresh within a 20 min time. It's thick slices, of soft cheesy pizza and you have the option of getting franks red hot, crushed peppers, ranch, and butter garlic. if you get a slice without one of these extra toppings you will be missing out a bit, but none the less its an athens staple that should be praised not torn down. I was in Athens over the past weekend for Numbers Fest and ended going out to the bars. A few friends raved about Goodfellas Pizza, so I was excited to grab a slice after a night out on the town. Unfortunately, even in a highly inebriated state, I found their pizza to be pretty gross. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I had it again the following night. Same conclusion: underwhelming greasy pizza served the drunk college masses. While Goodfellas pizza was certainly edible, it was not enjoyable. It resembled thick-crust Sicilian pizza and was cut into rectangles. Like other past reviewers have mentioned, the problem with the pizza is the crust itself. Apparently, I am not the only one who thinks it is too spongy and doughy. Like others, I felt it needed a little more time in the oven. Even with the all the oily cheese and pepperoni, I found the pizza itself to be fairly bland. It desperately needed more tangy tomato sauce. The good thing about Goodfellas is their pricing. At $2.50 for a good-sized slice, the value is hard to beat. You can also get 4 slices for $7.50. I found the people working behind the counter to be friendly and efficient. Goodfellas is what it is, a post-drinking pizza joint. So it will probably hit the spot after a night of bar hopping. Just don't expect the best pizza in the world, especially if you're not under the influence of alcohol. read more

This "pizza" is really just overpriced freshly baked bread that is way too thick for the ultra thin layer of cheese and virtually nonexistent pizza sauce.....put the proper proportion of pizza sauce on it!....major pet peeve of mine! Pizza sauce isn't expensive! It just requires the pizza maker to PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS like putting enough freaking sauce on the dough so it's not simply cheese bread!! Keep in mind that some sauce gets soaked into the bread and spread the sauce around EVENLY and all the way around towards the edges and enough to be in proper proportion to the bread and cheese!....It's not rocket science or complicated French pastry!! And the guy working, that made and serves the slices at the counter, kind of had an attitude when I showed him that there was no sauce under the cheese and asked for a side of pizza sauce....it's called pizza, not cheese bread!! Blame yourself for not making it well, not the unsatisfied consumer!! This place is taking advantage of a young, naive, often drunk captive college market that is buying this crappy "pizza" because it's within walking distance to the university, dorms and bars and serves slices until 3 am. Even if that was my only option, I wouldn't go back; I'd rather just save the calories, wake up the next day and get something better. But this place has no real incentive to up its game since they've got thousands of students (during the school semesters) that will give in to their impulsive desire for warm filling bread to take the edge off their drinking buzz or hunger with no better options around, especially late at night. read more

Around 2 am we found ourselves very hungry after a long night and decided to get some pizza. Once we walked in we were warmly welcomed by Joey. After ordering out pizza we had a great conversation with him. We knew he could have been doing some of his closing work but decided to talk to us instead. I was warned that Goodfellas, much like Flash Taco in Chicago, is a place open until 3 a.m. that survives on drunk late-nighters not knowing the food they're eating is awful. I disagree. I wish there was a Goodfellas in Columbus.. just saying. Something about their thick sheets of pizza just always hits the spot (more so after a few pints). I almost always stop and get some when I am in town, if even just a slice for the ride home. Somehow, I remembered this as good pizza from my times in Athens a decade or so ago. Who knows, maybe things have changed, but it's really not very good. My favorite pizza in the entire world!!!!! I went home over summer break and was craving it the entire time. I love the thick, soft dough. It's a very good option for the average college student as well. The lunch specials are only about 5$ and you can get a drink a slice of pizza and a cookie, or you can choose choose from many other combinations. College kids who frequent bars have a term for small food places that live off of drunk people stumbling in and getting something to eat, too drunk to care whether or not the food is even good - "drunk food." Goodfella's is drunk food. They have two small walk-up locations within a few blocks of each other selling pizza by the slice. These locations are strategically placed on the northern and southern ends of the Court Street bar scene. You can't go home from the bars without passing by one. This is probably one of my favorite pizza places in Athens, OH. A lot of the other places around here take 30min for a takeout order but in GoodFellas, you'll never be waiting for more than 5-10 min for whatever you ordered. Eating Goodfellas reminded me of pizza day in the cafeteria in Middle school. The pizza was never what I would call good, but compared to the other food served at the cafeteria, it was awesome.
