8/10 Decent beverages and excellent friendly staff in a huge open clean space for work and study with the longest open hours that make Ava so great and reliable. The muffin I found was not too good; on par with local supermarket or airport or convenience store baked goods. Also taking points off for only having 1 person running the shop shortly after I arrived (5:30/6pm), which caused long waits for everyone waiting at the empty cash register. I want to give this place 10/10 but I couldn't even get my muffin for a long while, because the poor barista was making sandwiches for people and running baked goods to people by herself. Others stopped waiting to order at the register but I was pretty hungry. The thing is there were two great staff when I arrived but they left probably due to a shift change. I understand labor is hard to find and keep and expensive, but afternoon hours is what makes this company unique and well known and draws traffic. It's a shame the shop was short staffed just as it got busy/became afternoon. One of the bathrooms didn't have anymore soap but I didn't bother the barista because she was getting lots of orders and trying to fulfill them. I hope the owners monitor traffic better, because this turned my 10/10 to a 6/10. The barista Autumn was super helpful and I'm adding back a couple points to 8/10. She recommended the Dad's Delight, which was a much better product than the muffin. On the bright side, you'll find a crazy amount of seating and epic lighting from nearly 360° of full wall windows with a peaceful view of Orenco Station and the passersby. The internet is fast and the shop is comfortable and great as far as facilities go. I'm glad I happened to be in the neighborhood to recall this spot. It can definitely improve the operation, but regardless it's a good work and meetup spot to enjoy some beverages and perhaps a snack. read more

An okay visit to Ava Roasteria yesterday. I had noticed the Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich on the menu two years ago, and I finally decided to come in to try it. I did notice that Ava only has garnered a 3 star rating overall, and I was challenged to discern the rating to award the restaurant. The Cordon Bleu Sandwich was good, but it was not what I expected. It had grilled chicken, cheese, red onion, lettuce and tomato. The person at the counter apologized and stated that she was out of pickles due to her supplier issue. Just go out and get them. I also felt that the pricing was too high. $16.00+ for a sandwich without chips, fries etc. is wrong. I will stop by for coffee and a pastry but not an overpriced sandwich. read more

Wow the prices for items here are excessive and the beverages and food are mid. Stopped by for a morning coffee after hopping off the Max. Mocha was $7.50 w/o a tip and they wanted $11 for a bagel breakfast sandwich. Needless to say I won't be back until their pricing comes back to reality. Got a matcha latte and cannoli. The matcha latte was not good. It tasted like straight milk. I was pretty disappointed since it was almost 6 dollars. The cannoli was okay, it was really hard though. I went to school in Hillsboro and lived around the Orenco area for three years. This coffee shop was my go to for studying and just to chill out with friends. The location is in a great spot right in the center of the Orenco area and just off of the max line station that stops in Orenco. The shop has a lot of seating and large open windows that allow a lot of sunlight to enter on the sunny days. There are numerous outlets along the walls as well making it a great spot to hunker down and do some work on electronic devices. I've never had a bad experience with any of the baristas and they are always pretty quick to make your drink. I usually get the dark chocolate mocha which is very tasty but they have a nice variety of other coffee and tea beverages as well on the menu. Overall, I would highly recommend this coffee shop whether you need a place to sit and stay for a little while or if you just need a quick drink to go! read more

Overall I would give this place a 3.5. I think a lot of their pull and traffic is due to their location - right by the MAX station, big open space with lots of seating, and all the apartment buildings above and around the area. And to be honest, I have a hunch that people who didn't want to wait for La Provence next door might opt for a quick coffee and breakfast here as well - that's just my speculation. I came here for the first time to meet a friend on a Saturday after the snow has melted a little bit and parked in the parking garage. They did have high chairs and a water station so that was nice. The whole place was very spacious and had many seating options. I was happy to have a corner window table so we have more space for the toddlers which was very nice. Ordering was very straight forward, they had waves of people coming in during the time we were there. Probably based on the MAX schedule. They had many pastries to choose from, including muffins (around $3 each), and some croissants, cake slices, and other pastries. I personally thought they were a bit high in price for these items, like $6-$8 each. Now the drinks, my friend got their famous Dark Chocolate Mocha which she really enjoyed, but my cold brew was a little watered down, which was disappointing. Service was average and you have to ask for the code for the bathroom (which is understandable based on location) Overall this is a cute shop and I'm sure it's some people's go-to. Good place to meet up with friends, not a great place to study (at least on the weekends) because it gets crowded and loud. Sometimes it's hard to find a table. The line was really long in the morning and it took me ~20 minutes to order. The wifi was reliable which was a plus. I ordered an iced dirty chai which was really good, the chai flavor was sharp and strong. I also got a blueberry muffin which was solid as well. The drinks are a bit on the pricier side, my chai was around $5. I saw other people around me order their lunch sandwiches which looked tasty! Would come back and try one. read more

I'm disappointed. We haven't been here in awhile but went tonight and got two cupcakes and got home and they were hard and definitely old and not good, so we threw them away. We definitely wasted our money today and last time we came in had the same experience about 6 months ago and second time same experience so we won't be back. I came here because I got word of their cakes being worth a try. I came in and noticed the normal precautions for covid: sign on door, markings on ground, one way traffic, etc. The only thing, and it might just be my unease, is all your typically coffee shop dwellers were casually maskless even without eating or having a visually drink or food. It might of been just extreme coincidence but I doubt it. On to the cakes. I tried four different flavors just to get an idea of the spread of flavors they had. I gotta say, each was very good. They were all pretty dense, aside from the strawberry cream, so each bite was very filling and satisfying with flavor. The chocolate cake had the right sweetness and chocolate flavor to be that poster child chocolate cake. The raspberry ganache cake had a pretty strong espresso flavor which I could've done with alittle less of but overall was a stellar cake. The raspberry filling was thick enough that it wasn't overpowered by the ganache and espresso flavor. The strawberry cream was very light and the carrot cake had a lot of nuts. read more

They have a little bakery. I heard their cupcakes are good, but they were sold out. So I got a piece of carrot cake and a piece of strawberry whip cream cake to go, and I was very disappointed. strawberry whip cream cake tasted like straight butter and it was dry. Nice coffee spot! Things move pretty slowly just because it's so popular. The sandwiches especially can have a 30 min wait when it's busy, though many insist that it's worth it. Nice big interior and exterior seating when it's nice out, prices are decent, staff is friendly. My goodness is the dirty chai BAD though! Great location across the street from the Max station, roomy interior, coffee is just OK. Stopped in this morning for a latte and dark chocolate mocha. Since they had a nice selection of different mochas I expected it to have more chocolate flavor, and it was good, but just OK. The place was pretty empty for 8:00 in the morning, I would have though more folks would have been streaming through to get a cup before getting on the Max line, but not so much. They had a few pastries to go with the drinks, but nothing looked interesting enough to order. Service was OK - considering how empty the place was (see photo) I thought our two drinks took longer than I would have thought, but with just one guy there taking orders and making drinks he was going as fast as he could. The place has a pretty fancy espresso tasting bar, but it wasn't open when we were there, so can't comment on that. Ava was incredible back in the day but my last visit in November was awful. Customer service was poor and unfriendly. Coffee took forever and it was decent but the girl at the cash register stuffed our cold pastries into a little bag and shoved them at us. When I asked if we could have a plate and fork (I ordered "for here") she was rude. The peach croissant literally crumbled to dust when we tried to cut it. Tables weren't clean or being bussed. We tried getting a table at La Provence a few doors down and they were packed so we said well let's go to Ava, probably like a lot of people do. Sadly, Ava is not nearly what it used to be when it opened . This coffee shop makes an oat milk latte so good that I had to go up not once, but TWICE to confirm that what I was drinking really wasn't whole milk. It was unbelievably creamy and had the perfect foam consistency. By far the best latte I've had since I became lactose intolerant--I will absolutely be back for more!! read more

It's in a nice location where it's quiet inside but sometimes right outside the door there is a lot of cool stuff going on. If you want a quick sandwich this is not the location to go to though. RUDEST STAFF I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED!!! I was shocked at how rude the "head roaster" and Amanda, the manager were. I've had two businesses and I would have fired them IMMEDIATELY. The "head roaster" went off on me (he refused to give me his name) because I set my cold ice water down as I waited forever in the line because they're always understaffed. Like literally ALWAYS. He proceeded to yell at me and berate me for it! I'm like who do you think you are speaking to customers like that?! I don't care if I did set my drink down, so f*ckng what?! You can't just tell me about it, you have to yell and cause disruption in the restaurant?! This guy should never be customer facing and neither should Amanda. I wouldn't know her name either except "roaster guy" said her name. They gave me a freaking email to complain while the "roaster guy" immediately called the owner and refused to let me even know their name even. I live in the same building and I'm gobsmacked! Why would a business treat a patron this way?! It's important to know that when I asked if I could get a table, roaster guy was already rude and aggressive. I'm guessing this comes from the top so it's pointless to speak to the owner anyway. I've had two successful businesses and what I know for a fact is reputation is everything. So many places to get coffee...Not only will I never come back, but I will also tell as many people as I can not to go there. If I get a response, which I probably will, be prepared for my response. This poor kid, today after work I went in to Ava, and today I came in ordered a coffee and was working on a project. The younger gentlemen who was alone got slammed and was handling everything like a champ. He was getting orders down and getting drinks out quick, until this extremely rude women comes in and demands that her drink be remade. Unfortunately this women sat behind me and the whole time this kid was "messing up drink" she would take a few sips and go and ask for a small thing to be changed and to completely re make the drink which is a complete waste and inconsiderate for the people who were waiting for their drinks . Hit and miss. Bad it before and it was fine. Today... not so much. If you want enough cream cheese to cover your whole bagel, ask for like 4x as much in your to go order.
