It was heartbreaking to see them closed for nearly a year following the crash that kept their doors shut, but the shop looks great and the community is lucky to have them back. The menu is packed with choices, and there are so many ice cream flavors to choose from. I went with the Bordeaux Cherry in a fresh, house-made waffle bowl, and it was a delectable treat. The staff behind the counter were not only friendly but also very funny, which made the experience even better. There is plenty of seating both inside and out for enjoying your dessert. After living here in Beaverton for 8 years we have never been to this icecream shop. Newly remodeled after a car crashed through the window last year and all the news stories we wanted to support them and give it a try. They make fresh waffle cones and bowls!! The shop smells heavenly when you walk in and that enticed the 3 of us to each order a waffle bowl for our yummy ice-cream. I was excited to see they have so many great flavors and they carry my favorite peanut butter and chocolate. My son ordered Huckleberry heaven and hubby had the cherry Bordeaux. I walked by the ice cream shop a bunch of times on the way to Shute Park and so glad I finally stopped in (one time they were closed due to thawing their ice cream). There are so many flavors to choose from, it can def be overwhelming! The ice cream is on the sweeter side and melts pretty fast, so you gotta eat it quick! After sampling a few, I'm glad that I landed on Snickerdoodle with salted caramel and cinnamon along with Cookie Dough with vanilla brown sugar ice cream. I rarely see brown sugar in cookie dough ice cream, it was quite good! The pairing of the 2 flavors was divine, I def would go for again! This isn't a review I thought I'd have to write. Honestly, the second-to-last time I went to Jim's with my family, it was a great experience. Took the nieces to the library, then for swim classes at the aquatic center, then to this old-school former Baskin-Robbins across the street. They had a bunch of Umpqua flavors, they had colorful wax cups, and they made banana splits so big that we took one to Shute Park in what looked like a hoagie container. Sure, there were some things that struck me as odd. The server/owner scolding her kids the whole time. One of the owners carrying a pistol openly for some reason. At the time, I just chalked this up to "Well, that's Oregon" and went on my way. But, naturally, the story doesn't end there. I'm in town visiting family for the weekend and they were just coming off of a hot spell. However, my sister waited until I got there to see if I wanted to go to Jim's. I was down: A Rocky Road sundae sounded good to me. But, even with the county slowly reopening and Jim's using some slapdash delivery service to keep afloat, it seemed the quarantine was too much for the owners. A whole lot of people were heading downtown later that night to protest the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and to call attention to police- and ICE-related issues in Hillsboro. We wouldn't have known any of this if the owners didn't vociferously complain about it during our entire time there. There was a lot of "whatabout:" What about COVID, what about the good cops, what about all live mattering, etc. Now, my sister said something to them about how they didn't seem all that upset about a reopen protest in Salem a while back, but they shrugged it off. However, when it was time to order, the server asked her what she thought it would be like if their ice cream parlor didn't exist. She noted that, since she lived her when the Baskin-Robbins closed, she was OK with that and just got Tillamook pints to bring home. The server noted that she's have to do just that if Kate Brown didn't end the lockdown quicker. Then she said something about them maybe having to close down if they got looted tonight, and I went off. 1. You can't get people to take the MAX downtown for anything: Concerts, restaurants, bowling, etc. They aren't going to do so to steal Umpqua ice cream from an off-brand Baskin-Robbins after looting antique stores. 2. If it isn't "antifa" they're worried about, who is it? They were clearly making ice cream cakes for quinceañeras and birthdays: We they worried about their neighbors? 3. I know there's a cop shop right up the street from them, but didn't those cops face federal charges for tasing a black cyclist five years ago just DOWN the street? They said they didn't like my tone. I said I didn't like their attitude, and me and my sister left. I have nothing but positive reviews for the place we went to afterward -- and for the downtown protest we wound up attending -- but I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see this storefront vacant again at some point. You can't operate with that much hate and distrust and still consider yourself a community asset. ADDENDUM: Really? You're pushing a recall vote now? Put this on a cake: Kate Brown 56%, Knute Buehler 39%. That's what 2018 looked like in Washington County. Maybe Harney County will lap up what you're dishing out. read more

A rebranding took place in 2014, to switch over from Baskin Robbins to a locally based ice creamery serving Alpenrose and Umpqua ice cream, as well as ice cream cakes and specialty items. The store is clean and the employees have been friendly and efficient. And if you want a drink to go with your treat, they serve West Coast Coffee. You can also pick up a tub of ice cream to-go. Not the most expansive or unique ice cream store, but it certainly covers all the bases. Summer hours are 10am - 11pm. read more

Umpqua and Alpenrose are awesome ice creams! They make their own waffle cones and they do an amazing shake or Sundae. I appreciate this place. I didn't know Alpenrose Ice Cream was even available before I went to Jim's!! I have been a strong supporter of Alpenrose Dairy for 10+ years, since 2004 going out there for Wed night bike-group classes and going around on the Velodrome! And, other times over the years for cyclocross races on the grounds and such. And, I have always seemed out Alpenrose's Creamer or Half & Half. I felt like I can always taste the difference between Alpenrose and other brands' creamer. Jim's is a staple of the Hillsboro area. Everyone around this area knows Jim's and probably has a few childhood memories here. The service is friendly and they dont question when you ask for more than a few samples. The homemade waffle cones are the real reason for going though. They are light and crispy, which is the perfect accompaniment for the many varieties of ice cream they serve here. The only reason I felt I needed to take off a star is because the ice cream that they serve (although local) is not made by them. It's still delicious either way and their dedication to the community is something to be commended as well. read more

To be honest I'm not sure how this place is still open...maybe we caught most of the ice creams on a bad day... A few of my classmates and I wanted to try this place because it seemed family owned and thought it must be doing something right to still be existing. So we were all excited to try the ice creams today. I tried first a Kona coffee and noticed that not only was the coffee flavor quite subtle, bordering on non-existent, but the base seemed stale. Thinking that it was just that batch I tried the Espresso flavor...again, stale base with the only flavor coming from the espresso bean bits. At this point I'm starting to feel like this was a bad idea but I try the Cookies n Cream. Even with the cookie bit in there, the base tasted like it had taken in the smell of the fridge or other ice creams in there. It was bland and did not have the creamy, milky vanilla smell I was hoping for. Now I'm just feeling bad for asking for flavors and not getting anything so I try one last time and ask for the Marionberry Cheesecake. Thank goodness this one had some sort of flavor so I got one scoop of this and called it a day. To repay them for their troubles of giving me samples I suppose. Unfortunately for my classmates, they got milkshakes which only made their bland ice cream choice even more bland. My friend's almond mocha fudge tasted like extremely diluted chocolate milk and my other friend's chocolate chip mint milkshake barely had that hint of mint. All in all we were quite disappointed and regretted not going to Coldstone like we originally planned. We've learned our lesson. read more

Well, I grew up coming here when it was Baskin Robbins and now that it's changed, not liking it anymore. The ice cream is good but the service makes me never want to return. Unfortunately, my son loves the ice cream so we keep coming back and I tolerate the obvious, "I hate my job and serving customers so I'll ignore you until you stand there staring me down and not smile or be friendly in any way. Oh, and I'll also play on my phone unprofessionally while you're obviously waiting to order." The first time, I thought it was a fluke. The second, third, and fourth time...well... You catch my drift. No matter how much my son begs we will not be giving them anymore money to be treated like dirt.
