I'm a pretty local loyal Customer of Anthony's Kitchen, by far one of my faves, Chicken Kabah with rice or french fries (baked potato) is by far my favorite one. Take one and eat 2 or up to 3 people, 2 big skirts of chicken, salad and a pita with creamy cream also delicious!! If you like salads they have all kinds, giros either chicken or lamb (like it 2) chicken grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, omg... If you're around Midway this is your place, they close late and people are always smiling and working as a excellent team. They also sell all Beers. read more

This place doesn't even deserve a star anymore. I've been going here for over 10 years, but in the recent year, I haven't been. I finally went today with my boyfriend and we were super excited! Only to be completely disappointed beyond belief. There are multiple red flags- the first one being that there was no line. In the years past, we have always had to wait in line. We thought it was strange that there were no people in line and no one seated eating, but didn't really think much of it. Anyway, we ordered the Big Baby meal and the hot dog meal with mozzarella sticks on the side. Second red flag- the prices literally doubled. I use to get my hot dog w fries for less than $4. Now its over $7 with a drink. Ridiculous, but we still were understanding due to the pandemic and basically everything increasing. The worst part came, our food, the main red flag. The Baby Burger is legit a joke. A JOKE. The alleged two pieces of meat was equivalent to half a patty. Their baby burger use to be HUGE and delicious... you're better off going to McDonald's at this point. The hot dog was pathetic. It didn't even have the hot peppers anymore. We got an excessive amount of fries to probably make up for the lack of burger and hot dog. The only thing that hasn't really changed are the mozzarella sticks. After receiving our food, I read the latest reviews and the owner is blaming the factory where they get their patty's saying it was a change for a couple a months.... That comment is from NINE MONTHS AGO!!!!!! I call BS!!!!!! STAY AWAY!!!! Anthony's is a utter disappointment. The restaurant should not have "Chicago's Best" Burger next to the Big Baby, I can assure you, it is NOT "Chicagos Best" anymore. Shame on you!!!! First time I ate here I think I got the chicken kabobs with rice:..SUPER YUMMY. Almost 2 years ago. Ever since then I've liked eating their burgers, hot dogs, and GYROS. I normally don't like gyros but from Anthony's there is something to it. Maybe the sauce because it's not too sour, it has a smooth cucumber taste to it. I had to buy an extra one for my fries lol. Here's the problem... Anthony's has good food. But they consistently have treated me (and I presume other customers) poorly. They do not take responsibility for incorrect orders. I ordered a plain gyro, it arrived fully loaded. They told me to take it up with UberEats. I tried, but UberEats said it was the restaurant's fault. I gave up and avoided Anthony's for a while. Tonight I had a taste for a gyro (like I said, they are good), so instead of ordering through UberEats or Grub Hub (which tack on 2-3 dollars per sandwich and 1-2 dollars per side) I ordered directly from their app and was going to drive to pick it up. Five minutes later, just as I am getting ready to leave home, the app informs my that my order has been cancelled, but my card has been charged and that it may take up to a week to get refunded. SO I called the restaurant and explained the situation. The woman who answered the phone said she needed to speak to the manager, but just as she put me on hold I overheard her say "We messed up." She came back on and said there was nothing she could do. I asked about my refund, but she said I hadn't been charged (but I had, by their app). When I pressed her about what she meant when she said they messed up, she said they were too busy to get my online order. I asked if there was something they could do (like MAYBE REDO MY ORDER?!?!) and she said no. So now I am out $26 for up to a week and still hungry for a gyro. Never again, Anthony's. Never. I used to come here with my family a lot when I was young, until I moved out of Illinois. The italian beef continues to be really tasty and full of flavor. The bbq rib tips are a great price and well served portion. I am glad to see the food continues to be good. read more

A previous review of my experience at AV Anthony's was removed by YELP under the guise of racist remarks. It seems more likely that the owner sent Yelp a Paypal payment or something. This can't stand. If a food place gets a bad review, they shouldn't be able to get it removed under some b***sh**. A customer for decades, my problem with the place began when I went in to try and order the recent addition of pizza slices to their menu. There were people ahead of me, but I've seen more. There was also a huge order ahead of me as well. When they finally did take my order for two slices to go, I waited and waited. I asked politely if I can get my order and the cashier sternly admonished me about customers being ahead of me. I replied that I was aware of that but my food is pretty much ready, as it sat in the pizza warmer/display case by the front counter. It would have just taken 10 seconds to throw two slices in a styro clam shell, but no. If I were to order a drink is she trying to tell me I'd have to wait for everyone ahead of me to get their order??? 8 MINUTES IS TOO LONG for food that is sitting right there. And she wasn't scrambling for the other orders. She was basically standing there. Another time this same cashier went missing while a few of us waited for the orders. Turns out she was in the bathroom helping her small child do his business. Why is a kid running around Anthony's?? Then there was two times with phone in orders---once they got it wrong, and the other time it wasn't even made! And they're going to tell me they never got it. The only good thing is the guys cooking. They're awesome and have been for a long time. After 30+ years in the food industry, I don't need some bad cashier trying to run a business like her own kitchen. Don't know who she is. Don't care. I never yell at kitchen help, or swear. I have too much respect for the industry. Some of this stuff I'd let slide, but when I saw that AV Anthony's got the bad review taken off, I felt it necessary to re-post and include other flaws as of late. It's a shame. The owner probably worked hard all his life and then to watch it go into the toilet because of who he hires to run the front. Maybe it's his granddaughter or girlfriend. I like coming in to AV Anthony's whenever I get cravings for some type of fastfood.Tonight I had an overwhelming taste for a gyro!!!! Just HAD TO have a gyro!!! Luckily,I know most of the restaurants in the area so I knew right away where to go.AV Anthony's stays open well past midnight so I popped in and had my fill.Wether its pizza puffs,hot dogs,burgers or whatever I crave next I'll be hitting up AV Anthony's again IM SURE!!! We used to go to this place many years ago and the food was delicious, portions were generous and customer service was great. Unfortunately it looks like as they've become more popular they are getting stingy and and way overpriced. I ordered a chicken kabob because I was so looking forward to grilled veggies like green pepper, onion and tomato. My kabob had a 1/4 inch razor slice of green pepper, a 1/4 inch razor slice of onion and no tomato whatsoever. $9 for 1 little Kabob and a shake, I had to wait awhile for the cashier to finally take my order then had to wait 20 minutes more even though there was only 1 person in line beside me. Sad to see businesses go this way. Hope other establishments learn. read more

The quality of food here leaves a lot to be desired. The place is clearly ran by a cheapskate owner or family. It's fast food with no thought put into it other than saving the owner as much money as possible. They're too lazy to even brew iced tea here themselves. I had the perch dinner, SO had chicken gyro. Perch quickly became a cold soggy, greasy mess. I went up to the counter, waited about 6 minutes for someone to approach the side where you pickup food, and asked for the completely nasty iced tea they had forgotten to give me, as well as a takeout container to throw the remainder of the gyro/fries into. I was told they don't have takeout containers. She offered to give me a box, I said "sure" and she brought me this giant cut open cardboard box. The thing was, I was literally staring at the takeout containers as she said this, they were literally within an arm's reach. It's not that they don't have takeout containers, again it goes back to the owner being extremely cheap. So, I was forced to wrap my food in the paper they put on the trays so they don't have to wash them between customers. If they're this cheap on the obvious things, imagine the not obvious things like the quality of beef they're buying. If you eat here, enjoy your pink slime. That anyone thinks this is good or even average food is evidence of how screwed up our food system is in America. The only redeeming factor here is they sell beer. read more

I eat at Anthony's often. The food is good. It used to be a great value, but in the last 2 years prices have gone wayyy up and the 30 cent convenience fee they charge for using a card is annoying. Please just take my card and don't charge me extra, like everyone else in the world does these days! I understand that prices always go up over time. But still. Today I ate there for the second day in a row. Both yesterday and today they have been BLASTING music over the in-store speakers. I'm not opposed to music in restaurants, and don't need to eat in complete silence, but turn the damn music down. This isn't a nightclub. I'd like to eat my Gyro without my ears ringing when I walk back outside. Just turn the music from 11 back down to 5. If the music is blasting like this the next time I walk in the door, I'll be walking right back out. Fix these problems and I'll gladly come back and give a 5 star review. read more

Stumbled upon this lil gem while searching on yelp during my visit here from California. The gals at the front were super friendly and helped me decide on a menu item, since they have so many good looking choices. They offer burgers, to gyros, to tacos, to ribs. I ordered the bbq rib tips, which came with a side of cole slaw, garlic bread and your choice of a baked potatoe, fries or rice. I got the baked potatoe with butter and sour cream. Good spot near Midway Airport if your looking for some non-chain foods like the White Castle across the street. I have been back many times since then and always order the Gyros, which are very good and reasonably priced. The most delicious chicken gyros!! Service is quick, prices are reasonable, and they have ice cream for dessert (not that you'll be able to fit it in your belly on top of all the chicken deliciousness). Only one caveat...don't plan on kissing anyone...or standing within breath-smelling distance of anyone for about 24-48 hours. The cucumber sauce is delicious, but the garlic will stay with you for quite awhile. I've tried many ways of removing it, brushing teeth, mouthwash, 8 cinnamon altoids in 1 hour, numerous pieces of gum...they may make it slightly better, but it's still there, there's no escaping it! That's exactly what it is a very great good food nothing extravagant no-frills nothing fancy but they make their food very very well. Great lunch while working at Midway, but be sure to either get there by 11:15 or call ahead with your order, or you will have a wait. No problem parking. Low to medium pricing. One of the best Hot Dog stands on the Southwest side --and I've been to most of them. They have quick and efficient service, the same employees everytime you go there, and the same great greasy food you enjoy at a Chicago Hot Dog stand. The have a huge leg up on the competition by being open until 1am, and it's been my savior a few nights. There's nothing like a gyro at 1am, when you reaaaaally want one.
