Do you get buildup on your car door handles? Apparently, lotions, oils, bugs, pollen, etc. causes this build up. Every time I get in my car I mentally say, "You need to get some of that stuff to remove the gunk from your door handles." For months, I practiced this mantra as I'm getting into my car, but never took action. Well, the day of reckoning happened this week. I sauntered into Autozone and asked the cashier if she could direct me to the aisle that has the, "You know... the gunk remover for door handles." She spoke my language and directed me to the aisle with the gunk remover. As it turns out, there are many permutations of gunk remover (who knew?). We narrowed it down to two. I chose the one for $21.99, rather pricey in my opinion, however, I was already there so bit the bullet and headed to the cash register. There were several gunk removers that were 40% off but not our two. The cashier rang up my gunk remover aka Goof Off (love the name) and it rang up as $12. Yippie...I hit the gunk remover jack pot. The next step is attempting to remove the gunk. Drum roll...it works fantastically!!! Oh happy day!!! Now, I have to come up with another daily mantra. read more

The manager and staff at location provided the rock star experience the other day! I was in need of a battery for my 2015 Nissan Versa Note, and little did I know that this car was quite fussy with battery removal. I asked Alyx Watcher, the store manager for assistance with swapping out the battery. This battery's terminal was perhaps a bit worn from heat, or some other reason, making it difficult to lift and separate from the battery. He worked diligently in the middle of the Texas heatwave, to remove it, and he maintained a great attitude the entire time. I had an interaction with Nolan and Xander during a warranty replacement. Nolan couldn't find the record in their computer system. I am not sure if it was my fault when I purchased the battery or the person in the store who helped me as it didn't get tied to me properly. I didn't dig out the receipt to bring with me as I was under a time crunch as well as stress with a $300 battery failed abruptly at a bad time for me and it was getting dark! Nolan investigated the situation and he challenged and tested me about it. Xander got free for a moment and jumped into help. They both explained the policies and their access to records being only 90 days. Longer ordeal than I desired, however, Nolan and Xander followed their policies and did what they are trained and compelled to do. They remained calm and tried everything that they could to help me. After exhausting what they could do, they helped me escalate and they did the right set of actions for the company and for me. Both are good guys, both good communicators, and both were helpful. read more

Walking into Autozone always makes me scratch my head. I don't have an earthly clue as to what over half the stuff in there is, save for the windshield whiper fluid and air freshner clips. Yesterday my husband traded in his baby (dodge challenger) for a dog friendly car because he was tired of always being worried. In parking lots we had to park super far away so no one would ding his car, he never wanted our pups in there, and every time we took his car on road trips we would have to come home and switch out vehicles before picking them up from boarding. It was a lot of effort and a waste of time and money. Why have a car you can't use? His 'new' one is older and came pre dinged so no worries there! The back is roomy and now we can load the girls and trek them all over town to the variety of trails and parks without issue. My car is no longer the designated dog mobile!! He feels much better too, and my guess is the cheaper car payments a month help ;-) As we took it for a test drive last night though we noticed one of the headlights were out so we popped in here for a replacement. It took all of ten seconds to find the light we needed and 5 more in the parking lot to replace it. I'm a dedicated do-it-yourself-er. I believe that there is no mechanical system that I can't diagnose and make right. I can fix things, and I do. I had some routine maintenance done on my car the other day, and was surprised to find my check engine light lit after only a few miles down the road. I was worried that the maintenance had jarred something loose and at worst my car was on its final downhill. This anxiety on top of all the other stresses that I have been going through was going to eat me alive if I didn't do something quickly. I went to this Autozone down the road apiece from my place to receive prompt service with the diagnostic computer. They don't miss a chance to sell fellow gear heads things to fix their cars. When the attendant plugged the computer into my car he found six messages, but they were all the same-combustion venting. He explained that a pump was built into my fuel tank that would purge the excess vapors to where I don't know. Since all cars are dependent on vaccuum hoses for aspiration I deduced that somewhere a hose had come off or was leaking. I popped the hood. Lo and behold, a vaccuum line was unplugged from my air filter which was part of the package of recent maintenance that I had just recently purchased. I reattached the hose, gave the attendant a high five and he stated that he had cleared all the codes. I was very pleased with myself and the attendant, and they have my business. If it weren't for his forthrightness and helpful attitude I would be wallowing in my anxiety even now. Thank you Autozone, and thank you for not charging for this service. read more

I've never gone in this place and not found what I was looking for. The guys working there are always nice, and don't treat me like an idiot for not being a "car guy". In fact, when it comes to auto mechanics, I am an idiot, I once ran a car without changing the oil so long that I ruined the engine. Which brings me to my latest foray to AZ. It was Sunday evening, and my darling daughter informed me that the Saab was 'dead'. She parked it in front of a neighbor's house when she came home on Saturday night, and when she went to leave for work on Sunday morning it wouldn't start. "Must be the cold, wet weather Dad." It's now 8:30 on Sunday night, and I have busy Monday at work. I'm tryiing to figure out how to get up early enough to go to Auto Zone to get a new battery, get it into the Saab, and still get to work on time. On our way home from dinner, I suggest we drive by AZ on the outside chance they're open that late on a Sunday. Bingo! They're open and I walk in, tell the guy I need a battery for my make and model. "We only have one type for that car, sir, and here it is." I'm in and out of there in 10 minutes, the guy was super helpful (even helped me talk my daughter out of buying the cheapo colored windshield wipers for her car in lieu of safe, normal ones). I had the new battery in the car, and the car in the garage before 9:30 and could rest easy knowing I wouldn't have a crazy Monday morning now. Auto Zone, you're all right by me. (Oh, when I put the new battery in, suddenly the car's parking lights came on. Seems darling daughter left the lights on all night, that's why the battery died. For my 100th review, I choose you, Auto Zone. What would I do without Auto Zone? I'd pay way too much for parts and labor at a dealership, that's what. I strolled in there on Friday afternoon to get a new battery, and a nice man named Cliff helped me to install said battery, a service for which I would have paid $40 at my dealership. Unfortunately, the positive terminal on my old battery was so corroded that there was nothing Cliff could do to help. My battery started acting up last night--car would start, but I was definitely backing into parking spots in case I needed a jump!! I went to Autozone to have them check my battery--dad assumed the terminals weren't connecting. I went in and was greeted by James--he said he'd check my battery. He got his littler meter thingy out and said that the battery was on the verge of going out. great.... Last night, I left my credit card at my sister's house---so I told him "well, I don't have anyway to buy a new battery right now, lost my card... so I'll have to come back." He said he wanted to check to see if my battery was still under warranty, and we went back inside. He looked it up on the computer--lo and behold---the 2 year warranty ended YESTERDAY!!! un-effing-believable. as I'm having a "are you freaking kidding me!!" moment--Cliff the manager walks over. James tells him what's up... Cliff says.. "just do it.. I'll take care of the paperwork." Oh Cliff, I could just hug and kiss you. THAT is customer service.. They replaced my battery in 10 minutes..in-out- easy as pie. I've moved to waco, but I've had a few encounters with this particular autozone before... they have always been helpful, courteous, and fast! This location is awful, after going inside and looking eye to eye with an employee, he just looks away and starts playing with his phone. It wasn't until 5 minutes of me standing there that someone else came up to me and asked if i needed help. I mean honestly if you see a customer standing at the store counter, shouldn't your first reaction as an employee be "How can i help?". Terrible. So i needed my car battery replaced, i already had seen a ACTUAL mechanic about the issue and was already aware of the problem, of course the 22 something year old i talked to who works at an auto parts store proceeded to tell me different saying along the lines of "oh it could be this, oh it could be that", and that was after explaining to him that i already had a mechanic tell me what i needed. After proceeding to check my car with a multi-meter (even though i already explained to him what the mechanic told me), honestly i am still pissed at the fact that after telling me "Sure we can install your Battery", when i go to check out he tells me some bullshit story about how he doesn't want to install it for whatever reason and rings me up and basically kicks me out the door. I swear to god if i was single i honestly would have just beat the fuck outta the guy and been done with the whole thing. Went in around 8 o'clock at night. Only saw 2 guys in the whole store. Eventually one of the guys saw me standing there needing help so he came over to me. All I needed was a new headlight to replace my one that wasn't working anymore. This is my first time doing any kind of DIY self maintenance to my car so there was a lot I didn't understand & was anxious about diving headfirst in. I just wanted the same light I came in with, but obviously a working one. Guy told me I had the most basic one. Ok. Then tried to upsell me by showing me brighter more expensive bulbs. If I did that, then I'd have to buy 2 and replace both bulbs, one which still worked. Those were $45. I went in there only wanting to spend less than $20. I got nervous and just said I'll still go with the regular basic one that I went in for. Told him we MIGHT be back later bc i had talked to my fiancé about getting brighter headlights but didn't want to do it without consulting him first. THEN this guy says "ok so you're just wasting money." I turned to him and said "excuse me??" And this guy tried to play it off like he didn't say it!!! He looks at me startled because he realized I heard him and said "nothing! So... that one?" Then I gave him a long upset stare and said "....yes." He was silent the rest of the time other than bringing up to the front. Then he disappeared in the back and the other guy checked me out. Didn't crack a smile or anything. Didn't catch the guys name who helped me. Just remember him being tall and having black hair. Really didn't appreciate his comment, super rude. read more

Great Service Advise!!! I am going on a trip overseas for a couple of months and was concerned about what memory items such as radio settings, etc. might be harmed if I disconnected my negative cable to my battery, on my 2010 Ford Edge SEL. I spoke to Venessa and she was very helpful. She took the extra time to check with a mechanic, and then informed me that I should be OK with my battery holding its charge, and I would lose the radio settings and that the vehicle would have to relearn its idle settings, which she explained. She gave an example of when she had disconnected her cable and that I would just have to let the vehicle idle for 15 minutes and then drive around there after for the vehicle to further relearn its idle settings. She could have just as easy told me I needed a memory saver and something like a motorcycle battery to hook up, or an all in one memory saver to make $$$, which was not necessary in my situation. I have used this Autozone in the past for parts and advise and they have always, always been helpful. I am a Retired USAF MSgt, and watch my budget closely, so this advise came to no expense from my pocket, which I am thankful for, and I am thankful for the time and Good Service Autozone provided me. Visited this store at 8pm on Monday, January 30th. Walter immediately greeted us and asked us what we were needing. Our front headlight was out. Without hesitation he got some tools and asked us to pop the engine hood. He took out the dead light bulb and Josh (who was also helpful and friendly) showed us which one we needed, rang us up in seconds, and Walter installed the new front headlight bulb. I came here in the rain in the early morning to get my headlight replaced. I was helped by Mike, who was very nice. While he could have charged me for a headlight- he instead looked around and saw that the light was just unplugged, and quickly fixed it. He replaced the light on my license plate, and checked and refilled my brake fluid. I have a huge appreciation for those who go above and beyond to help a gal in the rain out. Thanks Mike. read more
