Performed both engine and suspension maintenance on my 30 yr old 300K mile vehicle this week. The repairs delayed due to unexpected contamination in the power Steering fluid after replacing parts, requiring additional time and labor costs. These unexpected costs and delays aside my vehicle performs better than most any ICE on the road today. I have power from a dead stop, power to fly on the freeway, keeping up with our fast traffic, smooth suspension and direct, responsive steering. We first took our motorhome to Autotech for a smog cert. and then some time later and not related to the previous work, we had a check engine light come on. They were able to get us right in. I had a very unpleasant visit to Autotech. I have dealt with Jared the Manager for years. He has been my go to for help with my vehicles. I come to Autotech over other shops because he is just so pleasant. if he's not around his helper Mike will take care of me. Jared Is out with an injury and Mike is working in the shop so I am dealing with the older gentleman David. Geeze does this guy have no personality and smell like cigarettes. I stood there watching him type up my paper work with pecking fingers. I swear it took 5 minutes to type a 2 sentence paragrap. Then I asked him questions and his answers were so wishy washy, made me scared to leave my car. i Didn't get the "family" feeling like I normally get from Jared and Mike. Eric is still here which made me feel a little better. The owner needs to maybe rethink about having this guy in front for customer service. He has no personality, types like a 5 years old, and smells bad. I'm just glad I'm only in for service today. i will call ahead of time and make sure Jared is there before coming in. I would of went to a wash line today if I had known what I was going to deal with. Sorry Autotech, I had to do a review today, it's not like me but I had to say something. read more

I was disappointed in the last repair job that I had them do on my 2001 Subaru. Among several things, they replaced a couple of oil seals on the front of the engine and also replaced the timing belt. Most of the repairs were fine, but there were a lot of things that were problematic with the timing belt job. These became apparent when, after only 2000 miles, I began to hear a loud clacking in the area of the timing belt. I decided to investigate it myself. I removed the accessory belts, crankshaft balancer/pulley and the timing belt covers, and found several things wrong: - The large timing belt cover was missing its gaskets. Because of this, two of the pulleys and the belt had rubbed against the cover, partially melting through. Several of the timing cover bolts were also missing. - I had been charged for replacement covers but the originals were still there, and in fact the one I was charged for does not even fit my car. - About 1/3 of the width of the timing belt had been shredded and there was rubber 'dust' everywhere. In the manual transmission Subarus of that era there is a metal guide that sits over the crankshaft pulley that prevents slipping of the belt if the car is parked in gear and the engine turns backwards. The guide had been installed directly touching the belt, which is what caused the belt to get partly shredded. Installing the guide incorrectly is a rookie mistake; the manufacturer's instructions on how to install the guide are very clear. - The tensioner pulley bearings had failed, probably due to the heat generated by the belt getting shredded against the belt guide. The worn bearing was producing the clacking noise. - One of the idler pulleys was losing grease, so it was on its way out. - The water pump gasket showed evidence of leakage into the timing belt area. - One of the external timing belt cover bolts had been overtightened into the block and cracked out a chunk of aluminum. This is consistent with an air wrench being used to reassemble the front timing components because it is easy to over-torque bolts. - The pulleys, water pump and timing belt tensioner were made in China, consistent with the Gates TCK304 kit for which I was charged $545.69, although these can be had from Amazon for less than $100. Gates aftermarket kits are considered to be of low quality. The Gates kit actually comes with a spacer for installing the M/T timing belt guide properly, but the technician seems not to have used it. I was fed up at this point, so I bought a made-in-Japan Aisin timing belt kit and replaced the belt, water pump, and pulleys myself. I found that the bottom left idler pulley bolt hole had its threads partially stripped, probably because the bolt had been put in using an air wrench. The engine has an aluminum block, so care is supposed to be taken when replacing bolts. I used a Heli-Coil 10x1.25 metric thread insert which required me to drill out the stripped bolt hole and tap an oversize thread. I bought new gaskets for the timing cover and installed those as well. The car runs fine now. I am glad it did not self-destruct and that I was able to do the repairs. read more

My dad has been a mechanic his whole life but is getting older now and it's not so easy for him to work cars so when my car started acting funny I needed to find a mechanic ASAP and my last experience in Riverside was not good so I wasn't sure where to turn. My aunt recommended Autotech. I am so glad I took her recommendation! They were fair, honest and got my car back up and running within 2 days! When they quoted me how much it would cost for the repair, I called my dad and he confirmed it was a fair price. I took a 2010 BMW X5 that had oil check valve problems to Autotech. I asked them to replace the oil check valves which had to be ordered from the dealer. The cost for just the parts was $400 and total for parts and labor would be $1500 total if that fixed the problem and $1000 if it did not. When I went to pick up the car, I found out they never ordered the parts, never replaced the valves. They claimed the car didn't need new valves. But they still wanted to charge me $1000 including the price for the parts that they never even ordered! And the car still isn't fixed!! I paid them and took my car but I will never go back. It was a waste of $1000. I advise anyone looking for a mechanic to go elsewhere. The owner is shady and unethical. read more

Took my van in at 8am, told them what our scanner said that a cylinder was misfiring. Guys working the front laughed at us which should have been my first clue but made it seem like no big deal. Said they weren't busy and would have an answer for us by 2pm if not sooner. When 4pm rolled around we still hadn't heard anything so we called just for us to tell us back exactly what we already knew then said it would be 670 just to CONFIRM the diagnosis and it would take an additional day to do so. I said no and went to pick up my van. A different guy said it was going to be 190 to get my van back for doing absolutely nothing and telling us exactly what we already told them !!! How do you justify charging people almost 200 bucks for doing absolutely nothing? Crooks. read more

I took my 2005 Ford Mustang to AutoTech as my last measure of desperation. The problem I had was that my car kept dying at times when I parked it. It would be completely dead and wouldn't start up right away (as it was supposed to do) no matter what I tried. I took it to a Ford dealership and three different car repair shops but none of them could locate the problem. I finally took it to AutoTech, and they found the problem when no one else could. It was basically corroded wiring connected to the factory installed auto theft system in the car. The fact that the mechanics at AutoTech could find the problem when even the mechanics at the Ford dealership couldn't really impressed me. I was also very impressed with the great customer service provided by the two AutoTech guys manning their front desk: Mike and Tony. I strongly recommend AutoTech if you are having car problems. i plan to use them from now on when I have problems with my car. read more

UPDATE - I believe this shop sabotaged my car!!! When I did not authorize his ridiculous repair it seems that they disconnected something to do with the air conditioning switch. Wow I really don't know what to say. When I opened my Hood I found everything loose or disconnected. The second time?I've been a Mechanic all my life auto and aircraft and have never seen anything like this. We've entered a Generation of Lazy uneducated talent that just doesn't care. Can You say Honest mechanic shop? Rarely!!! My Honda Accord was cutting out for months and my husband tried all sorts of things to fix it but nothing worked. Well, the car broke down in Riverside, and AAA recommended the shop as it was the only shop within the 7 mile distance to tow that was AAA certified. I checked YELP reviews and was hesitant with a 4 star rating. Towed and dropped off car on Friday night after hours, and a man, Tony, was working on paperwork even though it was after hours. He allowed me to check in my car and stated it would be a $114 diagnostic, and if they fixed the problem then the $114 would be applied to the main total. I thought...here we go, rip off mechanic!! My husband said it had to be something major, and be ready to spend over $500 if not more as he said it had to do with the fuel filter, fuel pump or anything to do with the fuel. Fast forward: I get a call from Jarred on Monday, and he explains what's wrong with it but wanted to keep it 1 more day for testing. He said it was the pedal and throttle sensors. With that being said, I automatically think expensive and it's going to cost well over $500. Jarred calls next day and says the car is doing good and is ready. I ask for the damages and he says, we only had to clean the sensors so it's only the fee for the diagnostic test!!!! SAY WHAT?!?! I told Jarred, "I love you guys!!" and of course he just chuckled. I told him with hubby and I working during the week we might not pick it up until Friday and would there be an additional charge. He said nope, just give a call when coming. Picked up on Wednesday and my baby is running with no problems!! And there was nothing missing from my car either. (That's happened before to me at another place). These honest gentlemen could have so ripped us off and we would not have questioned it. My husband has now said that AutoTech is our mechanic and no one else, not even him, will work on my Honda! This shop is my go to, and I recommend it to people. That's saying a lot. I do a lot of my own work, so I don't actually use them a lot, but when it's out of my league, or if I lack the specific tools, or I get outfoxed on a diagnosis, I go to them. The kicker for me is that I know a lot of people in the community who ask me advice on things like a good shop. It's not like a buddy thing where I refer them. I just say, 'an old girlfriend used to use this shop and they were always honest and got the job done for pretty much exactly what it should cost, so I would try them,' and they have come through every time. I've trusted this shop to take care of single moms, students, the elderly, close friends, picky mechanically competent people who have other jobs, people going through rough emotional times, all sorts of people who could be taken advantage of, or not, and the reports have always come back positive. Their communication is good and they try to get things right, but my main compliment is that they've never tried to exploit people. Instead of just swapping parts and making more money when you come back, they go through the diagnosis to pin down what the actual problem is, which is an absolute treasure in the community. I can't thank them by throwing them money (I do my own brakes, oil changes, timing belt, shocks, distributor, power steering, that kind of stuff), but if I have any pull, my way of thanking them for being decent and taking care of my friends is through my strong recommendation. read more
