From the start, he was completely honest and explained that while it could turn into something more serious, like a transmission rebuild, there's also a known issue with these cars. Chevy has put out a notice about an updated fluid that has been resolving the problem for many drivers. He made it clear that this was the best-case scenario, but didn't guarantee it, just gave me honest, straightforward information. They performed the transmission fluid service, and it worked perfectly. Problem gone. What really stood out to me is that they could have easily pushed for a much more expensive repair, and I wouldn't have known any better. Instead, they chose honesty and did what was best for me. I took a Ford ZF6 transmission in for a rebuild. Two days later I received a call saying they had one already rebuilt if I wanted it. The next day I picked up the trans and had it installed. After driving the truck around for a couple weeks I must say the transmission is smooth and my truck drives like it did when it was new (25 years ago) I highly recommend Protrans due to their work quality, customer service and reasonable prices. Mike was very nice and kind to talk with and they were very professional. I broke my brake system when I tried to replace my rear left brake caliper. Couldn't figure out what went wrong and after bleeding times and times again but the brake pedal still sunk to the floor. Took my car to Protrans and they performed a very thorough inspection and found the main cylinder was broken and needed to be replaced. There was some miscommunication during the repair but overall I was very thankful that they repaired my car. And the price was fair and reasonable, they charged less than the dealership and will offer a good deal and future maintenance recommendations. read more

I'm going to do my best to keep emotion out of this. A reluctant five-star review.. First impressions we call to request a quote for a transmission rebuild. Quoted 2800 out the door approximately 5 days of labor. Sounds reasonable. People were very pleasant to talk with over the phone. We asked if we needed to make an appointment, and they said no to just show up that's good information. If you have AAA insurance make sure you have a PHYSICAL and CURRENT card. So they can give you an extended warranty and possible price reduction. Now, me never having done this upon arrival, you see a young woman balling her eyes out because she is spending every last cent she had and even going into debt to pay the bill accumulated. I proceeded to tell them all the issues and sounds my vehicle was making. I had the vehicle diagnosed prior at another place and had some idea of what was wrong. I was there for some time waiting for any information, and it seemed like they had forgotten about me. I gave them grace on my part since it was just after a big holiday, and they were swamped. They admitted to this and apologized. I love honesty. They have you SIGN paperwork saying that you authorize them to increase the price of your quote before your vehicle is admitted. ALWAYS read the fine print even if you feel rushed by them. I had saved up money for this imminent vehicle maintenance. However, the price was still a little unsettling. There is an option to retrieve the parts they swap. I wanted to physically see all the pieces they took off. He tried to ignore that I wanted the parts back. His words were, " I have never had anybody ask for this before." I asked him to please include that in the final paperwork, and I needed a copy of EVERYTHING. *Please note: Parts will make a mess if you don't have a proper place to put them and are covered in oils.* Within 24 hours, we get a call saying there were things that were broken and some power steering leaks and if they should fix them. Of course, we gave the go-ahead and asked for pictures of everything that was wrong with it. They sent me a link with pictures, which was VERY helpful. The new price from the originally mentioned ended up being an extra 1000 dollars. We get the vehicle back 2 days later. Transmission works but doesn't feel better. Expectations of new are not reasonable. It feels a little more frail and shaky if that makes sense. I compared it to a bodily injury once something gets hurt, you never have the full 100% back. Out the door, it was 3800 with discounts of being a AAA member and them being generous and wanting to help out their clients and being sympathetic to the holiday season. There were still some things they recommended to be fixed, just not something I wanted to go through at the time. After two trips to the grocery store, having the entire family and my newborn the power steering starts to get very stiff and lock up. I checked the engine bay but there were no leaks I saw at the time. Powersteering reservoir was empty and bubbling. Called Protrans back and I mentioned they recently worked on my powersteering, and now it isn't operational. I ask them if they will help with the tow price they said NO. I get the vehicle there and take pictures of everything while letting them know the issues. First they tried to blame the issues on me and some of the work I had denied. That was very upsetting but I pointed out that why would there be no transmission fluid in there when the mechanic checked said fluids. They diagnosed the vehicle and found a leaking powersteering hose that they had just replaced and mentioned sometimes the parts don't take. Another Uber ride home while they work on my vehicle. They replaced the hose under warranty at no cost. I asked them how much it would be for the remaining parts that needed fixing, and it was an extra 500 dollars. I gave them the go-ahead, and they SAVED me some labor cost due to them already fixing the issue of the powersteering high pressure hose. Two days later, I get the call the vehicle is ready, and another Uber back. Now it is much better than what it was. The power steering pump was going out and was extremely whiney. It's almost like a brand new vehicle. The words used were "it's quieter than a church mouse." 4300 dollars later, I am satisfied with their work. The price was steep! Lesson learned ALL mechanical issues tend to be in the higher dollar amount when mileage of a vehicle is higher. read more

The age of the vehicle has nothing to do with it. In fact, the age makes it easier to work on. We can go back and fourth but the fact was I made it very clear and simple on what I needed. The brakes were left in the front seat and it was clear that both axles were to be done. If the case is you want to blame me for not being clear then why charge me for it and the print off I received said that the service was performed and inspected by your mechanic? I'm certain there is or should be a list that has to be checked off when working on a car? The transmission bolts that were left so loose I could spin them with my fingers, the endless wires and connectors not attached or put back. The fact that bolts where left on top of the valve cover. I can guarantee any shop in the area would have taken a week and a half , 2 weeks to provide the same services I wanted with y'all. The worst thing of all, none of my gripes are opinion but fact. Idk how many times I spoke on the phone or sent a detail text each time I had to bring in my car back and everytime I'd get a call asking me what it was I needed??? I despise the fact I don't enjoy driving my car around anymore. I can't help but think is anything else missing? Are there any more bolts missing or loose I didn't find. In closing, your mechanic or mechanics are sloppy or lazy or a combination of both, the front office is not clear enough to the mechanic on what needs to be performed, the mechanic does not inspect his work and that's a major safety red flag. My car is sentimental but had I brought in my GT-R Nismo for the same, it would have been done right. Money comes and goes, I never complained about spending more and more at your shop but I was robbed of the joy I got with my little beater. I will be candid: I've written a few reviews already for ProTrans, and I am their advocate. There are concrete reasons for the advocacy. I buy used cars. I follow a strategy to keep my vehicle on the road until it doesn't make financial sense. Typically, I've found it makes a great deal of financial sense: I've kept a spreadsheet history of my old '95 Trooper, an orphaned vehicle which I purchased in 2002. It has come to a point where every significant part that needed replacement has got attention, and every significant necessary repair as been addressed. After all that, the vehicle has cost me about $102 per month excluding insurance, oil and gasoline through 22 years of ownership -- with the original used-car purchase price factored into the total and monthly average. A few thousand bucks-worth of outlays had been due to my own negligence and some other repair shop's choice of defective parts. For a vehicle like this, one always carries the fear that some part will not be available, or that a mechanic will not be equal to the job of repairing it. Mechanics retire, and I've had to make trial-and-error searches for a repair shop I can trust. I've been going to ProTrans for about four years now. The technicians and service advisors are polite and helpful. If anything ever went wrong with a repair, ProTrans took the vehicle back and set things right at no cost to me. But they've always done stand-up work on my car. So to be totally honest, I see it in my own interest that they get more customers, or that I can inform potential customers to encourage them. It is imperative to me that they stay in business and prosper. Lately, we've been "working together" on some repair work, and in this last episode, I'd been planning to replace fuel system parts just to fix a misbehaving idiot light on the instrument cluster. I'd also noticed some symptoms that may have been related to a deteriorating fuel pump, so we took the opportunity to replace two items that required pulling the fuel-tank from the car. ProTrans picked a top-end fuel-pump and did a great job -- again. The old Trooper has 200,350 miles now on the odometer, and I expect to see trouble-free operation for many, several years to come. ProTrans can continue to provide fluid changes and AC service, barring anything requiring more attention. Put it another way. Of any known repair shops, I consider ProTrans as "The One". read more

If your are a woman, DO NOT COME HERE. Never again am I taking any of my cars here again and if I could give them zero stars I would. I took one of my cars here because it was leaking antifreeze by looking at it I would figure it was either a hose, the jug or the radiator. They charged me over 100 for just the diagnostic and they said it was only something related to the ac which I knew was non related to the problem so I left and took it somewhere else where they immediately SHOWED me it was the radiator. I know as a woman some men will think it's acceptable to over charge and give the wrong diagnosis. read more

My car was making a weird whistling noise on the freeway as I came home one day so I exited and looked up the closest repair shop from my house. This place had amazing reviews so I stopped by and Mike and his team did such a great job. As soon as I got there they assured me that I was in good hands even treated me like family and explained to me the diagnosis which was my worn out connectors for the cooling system the water pump needed replacing and my aging alternator. Granted my car is a 2010 Corolla but they did everything they could to ensure that my car was back up and running as smoothly if not even better than before. Will definitely come back here hopefully not soon but they've got a new lifetime customer for sure. read more

Took my car in for a diagnostic on my check engine light. Was told it was my "cooling system". Paid the 685 to get it fix. 2 days later the check engine light come back on. I take it back and the THE SAME code. He guy "helping" me says it can be many other cooling/temperature related issues? So I guess my concern/question is... are they just going to guess until they get it right? I guess it's a good way to keep letting people to come back.. On top of that now my car is leaking coolant. these guys are great, friendly, professional, has the expertise in all kinds of cars , they even were able to fix my 1987 Nissan 300zx window problem the right way ie fixing the switch versus having to replace it with a high cost hard to find part that would cost alot more and I wouldnt have been able to keep my collectors edition car original part that is in mint condition since there arent any like it out there anymore thats in great shape. These guys are great , honest and upfront ,, not the cheapest but they do great work , I have a pos Nissan sentra with the pos trans that has gone out twice . Jeff was great handled the tow drop off and they not only rebuild the trans better than new they also include the fix for these cheap ass CVT transmissions , he explained that the problem is that the rubberband transmissions overheat and the atf gets cooked then degrades the bands so they offer a trans-cooler set up so it wont happen and the case no longer has to be split to replace the atf fluid so no more $200 + charges from the dealer to do this simple exchange . If your trans is over 75k especially if it's a pos cvt type go see Jeff and with a little preventative maint you can save some bucks $$$ cha-ching . He even took it back in to look at some issues I had when I got it back , he took care of all of those and even explained that what i was hearing ( that I couldn't reproduce when I got back there !! always ) was a low battery with a bad connection that was causing the starter to chatter and they fixed it right up .... I only wish the warranty was longer but take my advice go see these guys! read more

When I had car trouble, and had to have it towed to a repair shop, I asked the AAA operator for a recommendation to a Transmission place, because I thought that was the problem. To my surprise, Protrans told me that my transmission was fine, but I needed a couple other things repaired. I found Protrans to be honest, caring, and was very pleased with the service. Went in for an oil change and general checkup. Dropped vehicle off late about 4:30pm, and they were able to get to first thing the next morning. Appreciate the honesty they gave me about some of the problems I described, if they were able to duplicate the issue or if they couldn't. Captain's Log, Star-Date 12-8-21, The Android Trooper. 26 years old, the Trooper is an orphan space-freighter. It might as well be new, with the care I've given to it. Excluding fuel and insurance, it has cost me about $117 per month to own and operate over a 20-year duration since I bought it as a used vehicle with 92,000 miles. Just came back from my Solid Gold Auto-Repair Shop -- Protrans. I need a repair-shop dedicated to saving me money. These guys are a god-send. It had been two years since I'd checked the R134A pressure and the AC sub-system, and I intend to do it regularly, living in this summer hell-hole as it sometimes is. I was going to pay them the $139 to do what they do, which means reclaiming all the refrigerant and then re-pressurizing the system to the perfect spec level for optimal operation. I had told them that the airflow from the dashboard and floor seemed anemic, and they suggested a special product and process that cleans out the evaporator fins and the passenger-compartment air-ducts. I chose to pay for that, too -- priced approximately the same as the Freon service. You can expect to pay over $120 for AC service across a sample of several repair-shops. When I took it in and described the AC status as working the same as it had late in 2019, Jeff the service-advisor actually gave me the chance to abjure the $139 work. He had been this considerate previously and consistently. "You don't have to do it," he said. I insisted. Work finished in an hour's time, and that sucker is FROSTY! The vents throw a real BLAST! NEVER did I feel the air come through the dashboard vents like that! With an AAA discount, the two services performed on the Trooper cost about $130 each. I feel blessed! All in all, Protrans has saved me about $800 this year when compared to quotes given by other local repair shops. The Trooper needed new tires and new ball-joints, and Protrans had ordered the best parts. read more

**Beware if you have a Mercedes **2 stars because the gentleman was nice. I have a 2014 GL Mercedes(diesel). They advertised they work on German and diesel. I brought it in for my AC not running properly, an oil leak, and a check engine light. The diagnostic fee was three hundred something, and they kept the car overnight. They called to tell me they can't work on my car because it's a Mercedes, and they don't have the proper tools to fix it and proceeds to tell me he lowered the diagnostic fee to $100. I'm like, for what, to scan it and give me the codes? Beware if you have a Mercedes and make sure they can and will fix your car before signing. I feel cheated as they should have disclosed this upfront that there are some Mercedes models they can't fix. I had to take my car somewhere else and pay a new diagnostic fee regardless of having codes. They scammed me for $100. I'm sure my Mercedes is not their 1st, and they should have known or should know what vehicles are in their scope of work. They knew it was a quick $100. read more

I simply came for a mass air flow sensor I brought my own so they didn't charge me too much to replace my old one. I had an appointment at 8am I was supposed to show up at 7:30am but I arrived 11 minutes after 8 and my car got looked at immediately I love the services the energy here and the coffee is amazing. This is the first time ever that I post a review especially with negative experience. When the 1st experience not happy, I thought that maybe I was too sensitive. But after the 2nd visit, I needed to express my disappointment. My daughter, a UCR student brought her car in about 3 months ago to fix the AC. It took ProTrans over two weeks to release the car. There was no communication when it would be ready. Initially, it would take a day or two. The end result was closed to 2 weeks. We paid over $1000 for the repair. That was a lot of money for us and I had to take day off from work to make a special trip to Riverside to help pick up the car. When we arrived, they just asked us to pay and send us our way. There was no greeting or going over the repairs for a confirmation. This was what I normally get when I had services with another auto shop. I was a little disappointed but since I had to return to work quickly. I didn't pursue thinking that I wouldn't be to come back to this place. After a little over two months, the Check Engine light came back on and AC was blowing hot air again on and off. My daughter had to bring the car back. They said we had to pay the diagnose cost again up front. After that, we were quoted for the fix in another part of the car for around $400. They kept the car for almost 2 days that my daughter had to call to check on the status. It was at that time that the lady at the front told her that they didn't receive the right parts and it would take another week to receive it. My daughter was not happy and told the lady that she would have to explain that to me. When I called to get more information, the lady at the front then said that she found another place for the parts and would receive it the next day and the price of repair increased from $400 to $600. I asked about the reason for the increase of the repair cost, she said that the auto shop gave the wrong part and wrong quote. This concerned me. How would you not know the average cost of the part if you are in the business. $200 is a big difference in price. The error was on the shop but the cost for that error was being put on us, the customer. I asked to speak to the manager regarding my concern of her misquoted of the price, she told me that there was no one around and even though if they would talk to me, they would tell me the same thing. I was being brushed off. Today, my daughter picked up the car, the bill come out to be over $700 increased again for additional hoses etc. Total cost around $900. It went from $500 from the initial quote to $900 the end result. I felt that because we are females and my daughter is a young adult; therefore, we were treated differently from the beginning. I asked for the old parts to be retained so I can validate of the repairs were being done. I didn't like the fact the repair cost kept changing for the same area and the shop took no responsibility of it. read more

The quality of service are poor and unreliable. My daughter brought in her car for a steering wheel power issue. They gave her a quote that seemed quite high. I figured maybe it as because she was a student and obviously didn't know much about cars. I forwarded the quote to my usual mechanic (not local) and he said it was indeed very high. Since my mechanic was approximately an hour drive away I decided to just proceed. They contacted my daughter during the fix and told her they needed to add another part adding an additional cost. I call them myself and spoke to the receptionist to find out what the problem was. She checked the price and told me over the phone it would be $18. So I told them go ahead. After the fix they told my daughter it would be additional $50 (not the $18). I didn't not want to deal with the headache so we just paid. Obviously we will never come back here and would not recommend anyone to read more

After going to not one, not two, but THREE transmission shops, Protrans was the ONLY one to figure out what was wrong with it, and saved me $2200. No one could tell me what was wrong and I was being told I need to completely rebuild my transmission. I decided to get a second and third opinion and after dropping it off to Protrans, they figured out what was wrong with it, serviced it, and I walked out the door spending a lot less than expected.
