We spent $28 on a large pizza with 3 toppings and a can of coke. It took no less than an hour after ordering before we got it. I understand sometimes it's busy (must have been to-go orders cause hardly anyone was there), but there was no acknowledgement of how long we had to wait or any updates given until we asked for one 55 mins after waiting. For me, all is forgiven with an explanation or apology, but none was given. By that point we were really hungry, so you'd think it would have tasted amazing. Nope. The crust is too salty. The outside was crispy but the whole center was soggy. I doubt I'll be returning but if I do return I won't be eating the pizza. It looked like there were some other options -- sandwiches and calzones. Save your money and your time and go to Little Italy or Peppino's. The building is cool. The location is great. read more

Just dropped $100 taking 5 people to eat at Automatic. Cool place, and I will admit the food was good, but not worth $20 per person. Part of the problem is their policy of charging double for toppings if you split toppings. In all my days, no where in the pizza eating world have I ever encountered that! And it's not on the menu. And when I asked, "can we split topings" they said sure. So, for example, one was a large ($18) with 2 topings, split half basil+tomato on one side and spinach+sausage on the other side. We were charged for 4 topings at $1.90 each instead of 2. Same happened on a second pizza. To my mind, I was overcharged 4 topings or about $8 with tax. When I asked the server about the charge he said that was how they did it and he could not refund the overcharge. So, I'll give 4 stars for the food, 1 star for parking and comfort, 1 star for value, and 1 star for customer service. That averages out around 2 overall. I won't be going back. $100 for pizza for 5? Oh man! One of my favorite places for pizza and Italian subs! The prices can't be beat and the Neapolitan style pizza has a nice crispy crust all around. The pizza isn't soggy and chewy like other places in Athens. The Italian sub is so good! Put the pickled peppers they give you on the side and stuff them in the sub, and you'll never regret it! Consistently improving and now the only place in town we get pizza from. Great thin crust, toppings generously applied but not overkill sauce is pretty good. My friends come here way too much since we live close by and just walk (so we don't have to deal with parking). We always sit down at Normal Bar and have the pizza brought to us, which is a nice feature. The pizza is thin, floppy, and greasy (ideal to me, maybe not to others). One time it took a really long time, so they comped us a round of drinks at Normal, which was awesome. I'm a fan, but I can see how if you didn't like that style of pizza this place wouldn't be for you (you can ask them to cook the crust more than usual if that's your thing). My only complaint is that the big pizzas are a little expensive, but split between a group of people, it's not too bad. read more

This pizza is made on spot and tasted great! We did the create your own. We did traditional sauce, it was very good and not overly put on the pizza. They also have pesto or white sauce The crust is very good and freshly made. Medium was plenty for two. The large is humongous! Indoor and outdoor seating. It's a restaurant with atmosphere from previously being an old corner service station. I will definitely go back. Had a salad (large one with mixed green and some general salad veggies) with a citrus vinaigrette but nixed that addition of chicken for extra $. Got one slice of cheese pizza to snuggle up on the side. Both items were good but not noteworthy. The wait was about 20 minutes and I was the only person there. The spot is tiny and it has lots of right angles. They're trying to make the most of the space but it isn't the best layout. The atmosphere is authentic Athens...eclectic enough but completely welcoming. The large pepperoni pizza was much bigger than the 20" advertised. It is, though, fabulously foldable and delicious. We also ordered a specialty pizza called a Thunderbird, white sauce, chicken, green peppers, and artichoke hearts. Order extra sauce. It was a bit dry. Delicious pizza and even better service! The renovated gas station made for an interesting environment with character. We were just steps in the door when we were welcomed by Eric from behind the counter. He was a ray of sunshine. We decided to order a small thunderbird pizza and were not disappointed! Fresh green pepper, artichoke and onion were delicious with the huge chicken chunks and white sauce. The crust was thin and had a nice little crunch. I would definitely come here for lunch again. After reading in an Article online about how I could get a vegan slice for $2.00 I was super excited. I came here and they said they only preassemble their pizza for slices with mozzarella and they could "scrape it off". This is unacceptable to me. I had to spend $12 on a calzone which is the next cheapest option. All I wanted was a slice which was advertised. Why they couldn't just make a vegan pie to give me a slice from is beyond me. I've been here twice now. Both times, we lucked out with a great parking space in their tiny lot, but if not, I'd imagine the parking would be a little annoying like most places around Normaltown. Here's the thing. The first time we went, it was the first week they were open so I wanted to cut them some slack. The space is cool but tiny, so all the tables inside were full. The line was at the door, and it moved very slowly. After I ordered my slice and my bf ordered a calzone, we were given a plastic animal in lieu of a number, which was a nice touch. It was just a slightly stressful situation. Even with the slow-moving line, all the tables were occupied once we placed our order. There were tables outside, but it was freezing and the outside area wasn't covered and there were no heat lamps. My slice came out, and we were still standing awkwardly by the door with a slice of pizza and our plastic dog, scanning the room for anybody who looked like they were about to finish up their meal. We finally snagged a table with another couple after 30 minutes of waiting. Onto the food: the pizza was good but not great. It looked slightly anemic, like it needed a couple minutes more in the oven. The calzone was good but the ricotta was really watery and seeped out of calzone as soon as you cut into it, and it was served with cold marinara sauce which was off-putting. Our second visit was a little better. We got a prime parking spot, the line moved faster, but all the tables were filled again. Once we got our animal, a table was open and we grabbed it immediately. It was exhilarating, to say the least. I got a slice again, and my boyfriend got the calzone again. The food was also improved this time. My slice still needed a little more time in the oven. The calzone seemed like it had more color, but still had watery ricotta. This time, the marinara sauce was warm. Overall, I would come back to Automatic if I happened to be around Normaltown. Pizza and calzone were fine, not the best I've had, but it's cheap. Hopefully, they invest in some heat lamps and cover up the outdoor area in the fall and winter so it's a little less crazy trying to get a table. Or just get it to-go. read more

They had jalapeños on the entire thing, which was disappointing for those in the group who can't handle too much heat. I went here today for the first time and I have to say I wasn't impressed. First of all, I ordered a small whole pizza while my friends both ordered slices. While I can understand the slices coming out first, I had to wait at least 20 mins longer (maybe a total of 30 mins) for my pizza. And once I got the pizza, it was ok, but too much cheese for me. I at least prefer equal cheese to sauce, but more so more sauce than cheese. And the pizza was overcooked! read more

I go here multiple times a week. Best slice in town. I usually go for Literally's Pizza downtown on Lumpkin St when I have my slice hankering, but Automatic Pizza is top of the top notches. It caters to the neighborhood and people walking first and foremost, so year, if parking it a factor for you in how good pizza is then I can see how you wouldn't like this place. I love it though. Pizza is huge which is cool and you can eat it next door at their sister restaurant where there are tvs which is good during football season but the pizza itself is average to good, a bit on the greasy side for me. I went for the first time to Automatic Pizza last night after hearing great things about the food. I heard the wait is a bit long and they were correct. I called in a pick-up and took my time getting there and still had a good wait ahead of me. I noticed the limited space in and outside of this very hip establishment and wondered how they accommodated on busy evenings/days.....I think if they replaced the 4 huge outside tables with more smaller patio tables they would benefit from the extra sitting. The pizza was the best I have had in Athens in a long while....of course everyone has their on preference but it was to my liking .....it was a little salty and the crust was thin and chewy....and who doesn't like lot's of cheese (please don't answer that)!! Great topping options and they even accommodated me with my special request. The prices are a bit on the high side but a great pizza splurge! I will for sure be CALLING in more orders but not sure I would want to sit and wait. Great job guys!! read more
