I was very impressed with the recommendations for this automotive center so I took my car there. They were local and part of my community, which I have no problem supporting. I was sadly dissapointed in the service...dropped my VW Getta at 8am - told them the issue - they gentlemen seemed familiar with the issue on this car - common problem with this model. No communication via email or phone- I had to call them at 5pm! Passed from service provider to service provider to get an answer. Vague diagnosis - We think it is the water pump but we need to remove parts which will charge you $140 before we can diagnose the issue. Meaning - we did not look at the car! I had to go and pick up the car - no one even bothered to ask me why I was not going to give them my business or if there were any issues - they could have cared less!! read more

6 years ago, I got a quote from the VW Dealer in town on what a brake job would cost on my Jetta. And it was outrageous. I talked to the engineers I work with, and given that I don't own a garage/wasn't able to turn the wrench myself, the consensus was I should head to JC Automotive. and I have been coming back ever since. Customer Service is what they are about - this place will explain what you are having done to your car, what is broken, with quotes attached that break out part costs vs. labor. If excellent customer service, transparency in repairs, answering your questions, and advising you on how to approach complex repairs sounds good to you, well you just found your next shop. They councilled me through the purchase of my next car, a used Inifiniti. I go here for all my oil changes and general maintence as well. What more could you ask for, from a fantastic independant shop? Coffee, wifi, etc, while you wait. Worth every penny!!! read more

Most of the car issues that I have had in the time I've lived here (5 yrs) have been limited to oil changes/tire replacements so I had not had to shop around for a mechanic as of yet. That changed today when I found out that some lugs on one of my wheels needed to be replaced. I called 3 other places prior to calling JC Automotive and I am glad that I didn't use anyone else! From the very first call they were very courteous and professional, working in the customer service field myself this is really important that someone makes a good first impression. I got my car over there and since it would be a while before my car could get in (I wasn't even upset about the wait since I didn't have an appointment and they were the only ones who could get me in today) I was delighted to find that they had a courtesy shuttle available. Not that I would have minded waiting, but it was nice to be able to go home and relax in the meantime. When my car was completed I got a call and since I wasn't going to be able to get there before end of business they worked out an arrangement with me and I was able to pay over the phone. My husband and I will definitely be using these guys in the future for any repairs that we need! Car repairs are always stressful..."how much is it going to cost?", "do I really trust these people to be working on my car", "do they know what they are doing?". Even though this was my first visit in there I trusted these guys to work on my car and from the volume of business I assume that they are pretty good at what they do. I've never used a shop before, so I was very hesitant to trust my daughters '07 accord to anyone. The counter man, Ray was awesome, had the parts ordered and ready to go when I brought it in. I came in the other day because my truck had a weird clanking sound. They told me they checked out EVERY SINGLE possibility and said it had to be something with the transmission. They told me they were going to charge me $800 to just drop the transmission (which is almost everyone's normal price). After dropping it, they found that it was the starter causing the problem, which I know doesn't need to have the transmission dropped. They then said they were going to check the flywheel to make sure it didn't get damaged, which is why "we still needed to drop the transmission." (That's one way, but that's a lie). They shouldn't have had to drop my transmission if it was the starter and they said that they checked everything in the first place and to check the fly wheel all they had to do was remove my starter and they would've had a way to see the it. After checking with my good friend and mechanic and another mechanic they also confirmed that they didn't have to drop my transmission and they could've done it the other way. They lied to me. And they still tried to make me pay $1,000 for a $300 problem. And also still tried to justify why they did it. read more

Well I am only writing this review because the other REVIEWS were obviously written by the owners of the place. This was no where near close to my nightmare with Dan (The used car type salesman) Manager there. I used these reviews to take my vehicle to them for a Diagnosis for emissions. I had just gotten a voucher from the STATE of TEXAS for the TexasAirCheck Program that offered up to $600.00 to get my vehicle to pass emissions. Mind you it passed fine last year but since this program went into effect, everyone is getting failed and referred to the program so these rip offs can suck the money out of STATE and then on top of getting the $600.00 from the STATE they try to up the Co Pay from $30.00 per the AIrCheck Aprroval Letter to almost $50.00 to perform a Diagnostic after which you get to approve or decline the repairs. The letter says...$30.00 co pay so make sure you clarify it before you leave your car....if you go to this place.....don't say you were not warned by a REAL customer. They took my truck at 11am on Monday telling me they would call me in two hours...no call.....not all day or night...I called the next day where I was informed that my Emissions Repair would be over $1300.00....they were getting $600.00 or up to that amount from the STATE and wanted $700.00 MORE from us. The program is for people needing help not needing to be ripped off more. I declined the repair and took it to another place in Round Rock where it will be fixed for under $600.00 easily. I reported this to AirCheck and they advised also filing a complaint with the TX Dept of Transportation which I am going to do next. They are also going to start taking rip offs like this place and Lambs for the excessively high estimates. The other places submit normal ones but this place and Lambs try to rip the customer off as well as the State. BEWARE!!!! read more

Okay, this place rocks! For a few reasons! 1) I'm a woman, no secrets shops try to swindle us from time to time. I was soooo, impressed by theses guys. They talked to me like a human, explained the details, and were spot on with the estimate. I have used the twice, and was EVEN more impressed the last time. Not too mention there is unlimited coffee while you wait! It makes me wanna get my oil changed every months, just for coffee!!! 2) Shuttle. I live in Hutto, and they gave me a ride back home, AND then picked me back up when my Vehicle was ready. I don't know of any other shops that would do that for me. 3) Clean! This shop was very clean. The floors, tables, and Bathroom! If they take cleanliness this important, you can only imagine how well the treat the vehicles.... -Judy! read more

Had a horrible experience at another place an hour before I came here... the other guys (Brake Specialist) were rude, demeaning, horrible to deal with, and their prices were insane! But the guys at JC were friendly, helpful, and understanding. Not one of the guys there spoke down to me, they were all respectful and very informative! All the front desk guys are amazing, and Robin was the mechanic who worked on my car and he was fantastic! I will be back again very soon, and I have no problem spending my money with this trustworthy, honest, hard working team. I found JC Automotive Specialist from their excellent Yelp reviews, and after a round of phone calls to other well-reviewed mechanics. On my call with this shop, I learned that they were familiar with some of the problems specific to these cars, and that they could take me _same day_. Diagnostics begin with the first full hour's labor, at $125, and I quizzed about whether they would fix simple problems in the first hour. Yes, they do. I dropped my car off, and after walking Ernie through the work I'd done myself, where I figured the next problem might be, then said, "actually, if it takes only a little more than the first hour to fix, can I pre-authorize two hours to get it done in one shot?" He said certainly I could, so I signed for two hours. I got a call two hours later that they were done with diagnosis, had fixed the first issue, and wanted authorization for just $30 more for parts to replace the vacuum hoses that were at the root of the second issue. I had my car back in full working order, five hours after dropping it off, with detailed documentation of the work performed, for a very favorable price. I have found my San Francisco mechanic, hands down. read more

Let me start off by saying I have know John and the service writer for many years. I have worked cars for a long time as a hobby but I can do just about anything. I had a alternator go out in a van I had and didnt have the time to do it myself. I got it up to his shop and was told yes its the alternator and it would be $850 to replace it. I really didn't have time to do it so I said just do it. The next day just for amusement I called the ford dealer and they said it would be $650 to replace it. They were charging more than the dealer. They also fixed a vacuum line for $100 ( I drove it twice before that stopped working again). I picked up the van paid the bill and then drove it to a event I was doing. On the way back from the the event it made a strange noise and then a short time later it started to overheat I pulled over let it cool and then just limped it home. I had the van towed back to Johns shop ($100). They had it a day or two and gave me a list of BS things that are "wrong" with it. One of the things wrong with it was that there is a small wiring harness broken by the fan. I then decided I didn't want them to work on it anymore I will do it my self. I then had it towed back to my house($100). I ripped into to the front end to get to this harness found it the brake in the wires. I then found a 11mm deep socket in the bottom of the fan shroud. a 11mm is used to remove the turbo hoses to get to the alternator. So the diesel mec that they have dropped his socked in the fan and didn't remove it and then the fan picked it up and ripped the harness. I repaired the wiring and put it all back together and it was driving horrible. There was another problem. I then had it towed to the ford dealer($100) They had it a few days and then told me that the PCM is bad and that if the harness that got ripped will short them out. I had them replace it for $1300. I called John and told him the story he told me that he will check into it. I called back in a few days and he said he not missing any sockets and he cant help me. My best thought for anyone needing a repair just take it to the dealer. If the dealer messes anything up they will cover it a lot better than John. read more

I had taken my car to Jiffy Lube off Parmer and Mopac for an oil change and they had told me I needed to get my transmission fuel changed out as well. A few weeks later my car started acting up and became unable to be driven. I had it towed to JC Automotive Specialists and they diagnosed the problem right away. There was no fuel in my transmission tank so obviously Jiffy Lube had messed up somewhere. JC Automotive Specialists were very professional and not intimidating at all like some places can be. They don't charge you extra for things you don't need done to your car. They immediately diagnosed the problem and checked all the other aspects of my car to make sure nothing else was wrong. I had left my car there for them to inspect and they called frequently to keep me up to date on the status of my car. In the end, they charged about $50 for me to get my transmission tank filled with the correct fuel and for the labor where Jiffy Lube charged me $110 to change out my transmission fuel. I would definitely recommend JC Automotive Specialist to anyone looking for a reliable place with great pricing. I will definitely be bringing my car back to them for any other services. read more

These quality of service here is wonderful! Mike clearly explained what work needed to be done to repair my vehicle and how much it would cost (which was a perfectly reasonable and fair price). When my part didn't arrive on time, he called me right away, notified me of this, and informed me as soon as it did it arrive. When I dropped my vehicle off at their shop, I accidentally forgot to remove my office desk key from the keychain. When I notified them, they were nice enough to bring the key to my office. We took our car here last week for a "check up" on some repairs we had done ourselves. No one in our house is in the least bit mechanically inclined, and these were emergency repairs done at night and the only instructions we had were suggestions from the people at an auto parts store. Since we are about to make a long drive, we thought it would be best to have a professional redo the repairs. We dropped our car off, and later received a call from the service technician telling us that they didn't see anything that needed fixing, and that our repair was sound. When we went to collect the car from the shop, there was NO CHARGE, not even for the labour/inspection. Most other auto repair shops would not only have charged us just to look at the car, but would have "found" that the repairs we made needed some sort of professional tweaking. Honesty in AUTO REPAIR? IT IS REAL! How incredibly refreshing! We're convinced: JC Automotive Specialist is the ONLY place we will go for repairs now. It is a great feeling having mechanics you can TRUST. read more

I took my car into another shop in the area because had a check engine light on. That shop came back with a huge list of things they said we had to fix to get the light off. The list totaled over three thousand dollars! I called Mike at the Round Rock Auto Spec and he told me to bring my car into them. I am SO glad that we did. Low and behold, here at Auto Spec they were able to fix the problem for only $207! I'd say that's a pretty huge difference in price. Wow! They let me know that the other items the other shop was trying to tag on were all fluff items. Some of them were good to do, but certainly not necessary at this exact moment. The staff were friendly, their communication was excellent, they were very knowledgeable about my vehicle and the problem I was describing, and they fit me in on a day they were already booked and were able to have my car's problem identified, fixed, and back to me within a few hours. I believe they did what was best for my car by using good replacement parts, not trying to find more "problems" to upsell me, and they even gave me a new customer discount. I was scared to bring my car in, but I knew it needed to be done because I was worried about the sound it had been making the past few weeks. It no longer makes that sound, I did not break the bank, and I was not without my car for more than half a day. I would definitely bring my car back again in the future for maintenance or repair. I just moved to Round Rock within the past year or so, and in that time I've taken my car to multiple auto places in town for oil changes and my yearly inspection, and this was by far the best experience so far. Before I finally got rid of my old 2007 Saturn Ion (replaced it with a 2012 Elantra yay! :)) ...I had so many problems with that stupid Ion. No one could find parts....no one could fix it properly....except these guys. They are quick and they don't charge you or try to talk you into purchasing parts or things you don't need. Even though I have given these guys a large sum of money this summer for work done on my 07 X3 BMW they still rate 5 stars. Last week my X3 started getting hot and I had it towed to Auto Spec garage. Without asking for an estimate I told Mike to take care of it. When he called after the initial diagnosis he was more than apologetic about the cost. I told him it wasn't his fault that parts break. When the initial work was complete he informed me that the cooling fan was not working and without asking he ordered the part and had my car back on the road in 3 days. If you can find a better shop in the Austin area they must be the best kept secret in Texas because Auto Spec here in Round Rock is the best shop I have ever taken any of my cars to and as long as I'm alive they will be the only ones to turn a wrench on anything I own. read more

This is our second visit to JC's and they were top notch in helping get our Grandson's car inspected that was purchased out of state. We didn't have the correct insurance form and John said we could call the insurance company and have them fax the proof of insurance right to them. Sure saved a lot of time and effort in getting what they needed. We live in the Ft. Worth area, but anytime we are in the Round Rock area and need something done to our car or a family members car, we take it to JC's. Very professional and courteous. I love Automotive Specialist in Round Rock. A few times I have even taken my car in, they've looked at it, and it was such a small issue, they fixed it for free. Told me to come back when I had a 'real problem'. Now that is service. And when my A/C went out, they discussed 3 various cost options for me, and even talked to me about the value of just selling my car and buying a new one. Helped make recommendations on low cost, high value new cars as well since my car had 150K miles. I am not sure how this company has such a high rating. Customers beware!! Mike kept my car for four days (six including the weekend) but failed to replaced the brakes which was one of the two reasons my car was in the shop. After several phone conversations, Mike failed to let me know that he could not find the wheel lock and flat out didn't ask me where it was. It was in the car!! I will now have to find another company to replace my brakes and have my car in another shop. JC's is irresponsible with people's time. I cannot believe all I got was a pathetic, "Sorry." I just purchased a 2008 Mazda CX7 about 45 days ago and the car died on a trip out of town. I had the car towed to JC Automotive Specialist. It was a Saturday and they weren't open so I left the car there with my information and waited to hear back on Monday. They were prompt in calling me and confirming my concerns and called me back that same afternoon to let me know the issues. The issues, unfortunately, were so crazy expensive they were kind enough to "motivate" me to issue a complaint with the Ford dealer I bought the car from as well as try and get something done with Mazda. Rather then take my money and make a difficult situation worse, they gave me honest advice and didn't even charge for the diagnostic. Great service...if I ever get my car back or any of our other family cars require repair I will only take my car here. read more

I brought my Toyota Sienna 2004 (80k miles) this week and showed the list of maintenance recommendation "to do's" from a Toyota dealership to Ray. Ray explained that these things can be done on 90K miles mark, no need to do it 10K miles in advance. Ray is so polite and very honest. You see, some shops will use that "list from Toyota dealership" and tell me right away "yeah, you really need these things done NOW. Do not delay it ". But not for Ray, he is a very honest service advisor. This experience really put my trust in Ray and to Automotive Specialist. Not impressed at all!! I took my car to have it checked to find out why it was over heating and get all kinds of reasons. Theromostat needs to be replaced. ( I already done that a month prior, they didnt check it of course. )!, I need a new radiator which was going to run me like 200, just for the part! I bought one at auto zone for 70 bucks brand new! then they told me i had oil leaks from spots where i already had fixed like 2 months ago. I need a new oil pan gasket, that it was leaking, I had it done a month before.. ( so they didnt check , they were just throwing that out there ). The total with a new radiator that I bought and a new thermostat, that I bought for 7 bucks, and for an 8 dollar gasket to fix one oil leak was almost 500.00!! Ridiculous! dont waste your time here. Go to someone who actually checks the car to find out what the problem is...not just throw stuff out there and says ": you need new this , and new that!"!! $$$$$$ thats what they are all about., So not at all honest!! like some of these reviews say... probably posted by people that work there. read more
