It's nice to have mechanics that just "get it right", and fire on all cylinders for your service. I have used John and Corky's in the past on various occasions related to routine service, major work, or just that odd sound that seemingly needed attention; EVERY time I visited them I got the best service they could offer. Most recently we had a suspect issue with the brakes on my wife's van, or that was the prompting from her dad, thanks for that marital hand grenade (lol); I did NOT feel there was an issue, but needed to ensure that the wife was comforted and I didn't seem bull headed on my opinion. She is very educated & smarter than the rest of us...but, in this area of knowledge I am the one with experience...How to resolve it? J&C of course! [Enter] J&C Automotive. [applause] We needed to have the van serviced anyways, and a "trip check" performed on it before our trip, so I included in the scheduled appointment for them to please check out the brake system for me. As expected, when I called ahead, J&C gave me an honest time frame of service and when to bring it in..it was an early Saturday.. they recommended Monday; and I did so, to best accommodate all of us. I brought the vehicle in early, explained the situation, and in an unbiased way they would look into the issue for BOTH of our needs (my wife & I) to resolve the quandary. As I was early, and had NO vehicle.. they easily provided the FREE shuttle service to get me back to work. The scheduled service went according to plan, and in the process they learned that there was nothing wrong with the brakes.. it was as simple as I thought, changing weather causes semi-metallic brakes to make noise. [husband smiles] At the time of pickup, they (as an unbiased professional) non-condescendingly explained the issue to my wife and she respected them for it. [wife delighted and relieved for saving money and for safety] It clarified the issue, diffused the marital hand grenade, and we BOTH knew that the issue was resolved. [husband and wife adoringly look at one another] [Exit J&C] AWESOME. I also need to add that the professionals at J&C always give you their best: from the counter attendants, the back staff, or the "grease monkeys" under the hood. On many occasions I have called for recommendations on parts, referrals on specialty services, or general auto "know how"; they always tell you what can/cannot be done, where to go, and what to do..even if it means that you can get it elsewhere (away from J&C). With that type of service, they build a loyal trusted customer base and my respect because it is about YOU and YOUR investment.. not about them and any of the profits. Based on all the good reviews, I decided to go to JC Automotive myself to get my car maintenance done. I can't speak for others, but my own experience was pretty negative. After dropping off my car during lunch, I got a call to pick it up after the service was finished. I returned after work, but stood in the lobby for 10 minutes without anyone talking to me. I was the only one there, and a guy was on the phone the entire time without acknowledging me. I got tired of waiting, so I walked into the workshop to call for someone to give me my key. One guy finally came, and I politely asked him about my car, the very common questions such as "how was the car", "was the air filter dirty". He didn't feel like answering any of these questions. All he did was repeating "it's $63, sir". I felt all he wanted was to get my money and get me out of there. I didn't know the quality of the work and the condition of my car. Maybe the car was fine, maybe they did good work, but I didn't know any of that, because they really didn't feel talking to me. You would think $63 would warrant a conversation with your car service shop. Nope! I paid and left, with a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I really want to confirm all the good reviews that everyone else has put out, so I know I've found a good car maintenance place to reply on. However, I can only relate to my own experience, which is less than desirable. I won't go there again, unless they learn to respect all customers. read more

These guys are awesome. We had a run in with roadkill in my 2006 Honda Civic and subsequently had some parts hanging down from under the car. We took it in and he was honest about the potential for high costs depending on the damage. We left the car with him and he called in about an hour to tell us there was no major damage to vital parts. He was able to remove the damaged piece that was dragging and that it was a non-essential piece, especially considering the car is almost 10 years old. Best part- he didn't charge us a dime!!! I was referred to JC Auto by the guys at Eagle Transmission (great place, as well) They had my car for almost 3 hours and had it up on the lift 3 times and they went through it with a fine tooth comb. They were taking things off to visually inspect these parts and plugging it up to this and that. Well, almost 3 hours later, they tell me what it wrong with it. Nothing major, it was the computer acting up. After being powered off and back on it started driving fine. I was told it would eventually need to be replaced and when that time came I could take it to them. For all this, they only charged me 45 bucks for the estimate of fixing it. Now that I have an honest assessment, I can weigh all options. I would recommend JC auto to anyone that does not want to get ripped off. read more

This is the best garage I have ever been to. I have been using them for five years and they have never disappointed me. My pathfinder jerked when I pushed the gas paddle. I drove to Dave's Ultimate Auto, they wanted to rip me off by charging me $1000 for a turn-up while they could not guarantee this would fix the problem. I drove to J C and Jonathan helped me to find out the problem and J C fixed it for me for $75. I feel they are very honest people and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a mechanic. While out at Harris Hill Raceway, I ended up punching a hole in the side of my 350Z's block from oil starvation. I was fortunate enough to meet John out at the track with his son when it happened and decided to give his shop the job of replacing my engine. I spoke with John for several weeks about places to find a "new" engine and what to look for. After some research I found a new motor and had it shipped to his shop directly. I am big on doing things myself when it comes to my car, but I felt confident that his technicians had the expertise to perform the heart transplant job at hand. As they worked on my car, I got a call from Mike letting me know they discovered a cracked radiator and a worn out lower control arm bushing. It's not the kind of news that you want to hear when you're already shelling out a ton to replace the engine alone, but Mike was great about giving the news to me straight and working with me when I wanted to have the replacement radiator come from the vendor of my choosing. I was extremely impressed at how fast they got the job done. In a matter of a couple days they lifted my old engine out, put a new clutch assembly on the "new" engine, replaced the LCA bushing, installed the new radiator (which required custom work to fit in the support frame), and had it ready to roll out the door. Upon test driving, there were a couple hiccups found with vacuum lines and steering wheel adjustments that they corrected immediately at no extra charge. The technician who replaced the motor also pointed out that it looked like the motor blew from a crankshaft bolt that came loose on the lower end of the piston's crank arm caused the motor to self destruct. Turns out it wasn't oil deprivation after all (not my fault entirely)! Overall, I found them to be honest, hard working people that could have racked up so more more than they did (I'm certain there were a few hours of labor not charged considering how much work they did). The car runs and feels better than before. Cannot wait to get back out to the track! read more

Prices were fair and they called each time to discuss pricing and options to address the issues. Okay, so I have been going here for over a year and at first they really blew me away! They were honest about all repairs, took the time to explain things in detail, and had a great attitude while doing it all. Well the last 3 visits were horrible, they are still honest, but that's about it. I went in because my car was acting up the first time, and nobody was even at the front desk. When someone did appear, he seemed as if I was bothering him because they were so busy. Being busy is great, but how about a being nice to the people your turning away?! It was at this time that I overheard the other employee talking about another customer and saying " yea, whatever....I don't wanna even take in this car, just say we're too busy " Wow, made me wonder if that's what just happened to me. So my Husband and I went elsewhere. No worries. The next time I went in for brakes, it felt as if they rushed through the explanation of what I needed, and options available to me. I asked a few questions, about the brands and warranty....and this seem to irritate guy at the front desk. I went ahead and got them anyway. Needed em. While there, there where 2 employees laughing it up, and joking around...I asked myself " can that joy be spread around to the customers??? Guess not. Because the last time was just like the first 2. Didn't explain a thing. Also, I don't like how the mechanics came in, whisper something, and then the guy's abandon ship and go to the back. Feels like your being left out of the discussion ABOUT YOUR CAR! How about showing me, the person who owns the car whats going on? Or saying here is the problem, let me now call and see what it costs. Simple, upfront, and keeps the customer in the loop, Hope changes are being done, or I will be looking for another mechanic shop...ASAP! I have had problems with my '05 Dodge Dakota pickup overheating. I took it to one shop about a year ago -- they looked it over, flushed the radiator and did a few other minor things, and that seemed to take care of the problem. This summer it started overheating again. I'm talking about the temperature gauge going ALL the way to the hot side and having to turn off the AC to try to keep the temp down (this is NOT fun with the typical central Texas heat in August!). I took my pickup to JC Automotive Specialist since they had a lot of good reviews and they're just a few blocks from my house. Ray waited on me when I arrived and asked pertinent questions. My 87-year-old dad (a former mechanic) had tried several things he hoped would fix it, including cleaning out the radiator and replacing the thermostat. I told Ray about all of that and left my pickup in his hands. Ray called me the next morning and told me the problem was the water pump and how much it would cost to replace it -- a price that was pretty reasonable -- and I told him to go ahead with the repair. He called me that afternoon and told me the technician had accidentally dropped the water pump on the radiator while working on my pickup, and the radiator cracked. He said they would replace the radiator free of charge since it was their fault. I'm sure there are other shops that would probably have charged me and just said the radiator needed to be replaced. My husband was a Dodge/Chrysler mechanic who was one of those honest guys who told customers the truth about what was wrong with their vehicle and what needed to be done, so I really appreciate finding a place with that same type of ethics and care for their customers. It's been a real relief to have the overheating problem fixed and to be able to use my AC again!! I will definitely be taking my vehicles to this shop again. On a side note: I showed the invoice to my dad, and he said he thought it was the most detailed and professional-looking invoice he had ever seen from a repair shop! I agree -- lots of detail and has recommendations for additional work that I might want to have done in the future (although Ray never mentioned these things, much less pressured me to have additional work done). read more

I came in the other day because my truck had a weird clanking sound. They told me they checked out EVERY SINGLE possibility and said it had to be something with the transmission. They told me they were going to charge me $800 to just drop the transmission (which is almost everyone's normal price). After dropping it, they found that it was the starter causing the problem, which I know doesn't need to have the transmission dropped. They then said they were going to check the flywheel to make sure it didn't get damaged, which is why "we still needed to drop the transmission." (That's one way, but that's a lie). They shouldn't have had to drop my transmission if it was the starter and they said that they checked everything in the first place and to check the fly wheel all they had to do was remove my starter and they would've had a way to see the it. After checking with my good friend and mechanic and another mechanic they also confirmed that they didn't have to drop my transmission and they could've done it the other way. They lied to me. And they still tried to make me pay $1,000 for a $300 problem. And also still tried to justify why they did it. read more

Just came back from visiting JC Auto Specialist. I was very impressed with their honesty and their kindness as far as customer service. I recently took my vehicle in to have my oil changed somewhere else and was told I was needing my transmission flushed. I thought that was odd since I haven't reached the 30,000 mileage mark. So I held off to see if I could get a second opinion. I'm pretty familiar with the basic maintenance that is needed on my car according to my manual. JC automotive took a look without any charge and said it looked great but recommended that I do have this done at 30,000 miles. I trust these guys with my car. They give you options, tell you what is really needed, and more often then not...are lower priced then lamb's, Firestone, and the other places around Round Rock. I've now stopped getting estimates and just go straight to them when I need anything and I know it will be done right and I won't get charged for things I don't need. Well...thought i would edit this review...they've been good in the past but i recently took my car in for major service, timing belt and a bunch of other stuff. They quoted about $2000 for everything and i thought it seemed high so i called the dealer and got a quote for everything JC Automotive was recommending and the dealer was only $1400. Major difference for the same work. I have to say i was disappointed...had the dealer do the work and now i'm kind of suspect of taking my car back. This was 6 months ago and my car is still running perfect at 150,000 miles. read more

I was very impressed with the recommendations for this automotive center so I took my car there. They were local and part of my community, which I have no problem supporting. I was sadly dissapointed in the service...dropped my VW Getta at 8am - told them the issue - they gentlemen seemed familiar with the issue on this car - common problem with this model. No communication via email or phone- I had to call them at 5pm! Passed from service provider to service provider to get an answer. Vague diagnosis - We think it is the water pump but we need to remove parts which will charge you $140 before we can diagnose the issue. Meaning - we did not look at the car! I had to go and pick up the car - no one even bothered to ask me why I was not going to give them my business or if there were any issues - they could have cared less!! read more
