I have been coming to this Auto Chek location for years to get my cars smog tested. On this visit, I brought my girlfriends car to get tested. I like the set up of the location as you pull right in right in front of a drive-through test bay. Pull up to the yellow cones, and a tech will greet you and get all of your information and DMV notice. I never got his name, but it's often the same friendly tech that has done my testing. It is nice to see a familiar face even though you only go to a place once every few years. When it is time to test your car, the tech will have you wait inside and he will pull your car forward in to the test bay and do the test. The waiting area inside is air conditioned, very clean, and has several benches to sit on while you wait. When the test is complete, the tech will come in and give you the results which took less than ten minutes on this visit since there was no wait. I was afraid the car might not pass because it has been burning a lot of oil, but luckily it did pass. After paying, they send your pass result to the DMV electronically. If for some reason your car fails the smog test, they will give you one free retest within 30 days. If you go to their website and look in the coupon section, there is a coupon for $10 off your smog test. You are supposed to mention it to the tech when you first arrive, but the friendly cashier was happy to apply it afterwards. A bit disappointed in my experience today. Been a patron for over 10 years and brought friends and family here as well. I come to learn that they no longer accept competitors coupons when I asked them as soon as I pulled up and again right before I paid. Total for a smog for a regular car was $70. What dismayed me is they didn't tell me they had their own $10 off coupon on their website. I found this out later thru my friend who visited 2 weeks prior on my suggestion. I've been using Auto Chek Centers about 30 years (wow! I'm old!) I started at their SA location when it was around the corner from my home & began coming to this location when SA closed. I keep coming back because everyone is friendly, the process takes under an hour, and I can get the smog certificate and my tags all on a credit card which is convenient (don't have to wait for the tags in the mail & DMV didn't take credit cards in the past) and a good use of time. Once, my car didn't pass but I was able to pay for the tags (saved from being charged late fees) and armed with suggestions from the tech. I came back about 6 weeks later, the car passed & I had no additional fees - they sent the paperwork to DMV, gave me the tag and I was on my way. On my most recent visit, I checked the car in, then walked into the waiting area (I had planned to pay bills while I waited), but in the time it took to login to my bank account, my car was done! Unfortunately, I chose to pay DMV directly this year for the tag (I really don't know why - perhaps senility, age, forgetfulness???) but I regretted it because I waited another 8 weeks for the registration and tag in the mail. It really is easier just to do the whole process at Auto Chek Centers! Looking for a discount? Brought in my truck to get smog check, Juan was the "inspector". After about ten minutes he came back and told me it failed, I got the inspection record and every emission test passed. He failed it claiming when he reved the engine, he saw white smoke come out. ( it passed every emission test except this guys visual. When I asked if he could rev it so I could see it he said "it doesn't do it all the time", I asked if I could use my free retest right now then so I can see for myself if smoke was coming out and he said " no you've got to take it some where to get it checked out. I assume they have to have a certain amount of fails to not raise suspicion, so they give some leniency and fail others. I might not even take my free re test here because the experience was so bad. Not just with Juan. The lady at the desk was very short to answer questions, and get me off the phone when I was just asking if I had showed up how many cars would be in front of me. read more

I've been taking my cars to this smog check center for years. Fast, efficient and fair. I only had one car fail due to a previous owner installing a catalytic converter with no serial number. In that instance I was referred to a BAR station ( Fullerton college on Chapman) who then gave me the proper documentation to move forward. Stupid azz Ca democraps. But whatever. If I could I would give 0 stars. Been going here for 18 years with our Van. It was a good place. Our whole family gets their cars tested here. Not anymore. They are saying "we modified the exhaust". Never changed anything on it. But they WOULDN'T EVEN TEST IT. Our van would have absolutely passed!! They say "they are just doing their job". Brought my truck here as it needed to be SMOG checked to complete the registration process. I had been using them since 2004. They spent over twenty minutes crawling under it and using a mirror in the engine compartment. The techs looked confused. This truck has the original "stock" engine in it with all of the factory smog equipment except for a pair of "California legal" headers made by JBA. The tech told me that the headers were incorrect, the catalytic converter was too old, and because there was a fresh exhaust repair by a reputable muffler shop, said they weren't even sure the cat was in the right position. Um, ok guy. These guys aren't mechanics and have no idea what they are talking about and they are expensive compared to other places. Ultimately, they refused to test the vehicle. I have a Calloway Corvette, its been smoged at this fascility since 2010. The manager of the business, Juan, was the service tech this time around and actually one time prior. Started with questions about my "after market" supercharger and a reading of the "still have to pay even if you don't pass" disclaimer. I explained to him that Calloway was a factory option and not an after market conversion, made for sale in Ca. So after 10 minutes i was told the car failed as the bolts holding the catalytic convertors were shinny and they may have been tampered with or removed. I was surprised as they were the same shinny bolts since 6 prior passings. It seems Juan was simply determined not to pass my car and made up his own rules. No cross words prior to the failure, maybe old white guys and high performance cars aren't his cup of tea. Turns out no charge as the car was never tested, just arbitrairily failed prior to the actual test. So to my mechanic at Corvette Mikes who laughed and said the technician was just lazy. I then went to Smog Tech at 17035-C Imperial Hwy, Yorba Linda, another laugh at Juan's expense and the car passed smog 30 minutes later, and it was less expensive, I win. Called the owner and she confirmed no such rule of shinny bolts existed, i sent her a letter with the details. She was very nice and business like but during our conversation no apology was forth coming, hence the need for this review. Smogged 3 cars there for 13 years, but I now have a new go to business that actually tests their customers cars before passing or failing them. read more

Of course we have taken our cars here for several years and previously had no issues with any of our cars passing the SMOG test, but this time, Ernest looked at our car and claimed multiple reasons why one of them wouldn't pass. It appeared that he had unhooked a few hoses and messed with some parts under the hood. Naturally, my family took a photo of him and the issue, but this made him very upset. He wouldn't give us our car back for over an hour because we had taken pictures and asked us to never come back... not that we would after this experience anyways.... I've been going ACC Smog Test Center on Orangethorpe and State College and they've always been the best. One of my cars had a problem with 'Not Ready' reading from their system and it couldn't be tested. I was told to drive 50 miles and bring it back. Well I had to do this about 10 times and each time 'Not Ready'. Do not bring your car here if it is legally modified. They do not have a lift and cannot verify the carb numbers on your hi flow cats. They even told me to bring it to another smog shop with a lift to verify the carb numbers on the cat this morning. When I brought my car to another smog shop, I found out they flagged my car and now I cannot get a smog even though my car passed 2 months ago with no issues. Supposedly this makes their numbers look better or something... At your expense. Stay away. read more
