This place is amazing. I went to them to get a quote about a car trouble I had and ultimately didn't get my car serviced by them. Even so, I was given great advice. The owner asked amazing questions and super understanding. They recommended me to go to the first place I got my car diagnosed because they knew the owner, and knew the quality of their work. The owner told me he could fix my car but he wasn't part of the beginning to really understand my car troubles. I felt he wasn't trying to rip me off or give me false information. Scheduled a smog check which was completed soon after the appointment time. Cost is a bit higher than some others but service was excellent with no up sale. Certificate was filed with the DMV electronically. By the time I was home, I was able to renew my registration on line. Easy peasy. read more

OK, y'all. Do you need a smog check? Well, I've needed two over the past few years and each time I ventured to Castner's and it was a convenient, simple process. I roll up, present my certificate... wait 20 minutes or so... and I'm on my way. This is a locally owned business and is family-run... right in the downtown area of Placentia. Talk a walk across the street and enjoy a quick bite while you wait. They also do also sorts of repair and maintenance work. I'd be glad to bring my car back here for some fixes if/when that happens. I happened to have a bit of a problem with my car's acceleration. It seemed that for some reason, it was bringing back vibration and noise, every time I'd hit the gas pedal. Didn't know how serious the problem could be, but it didn't look good.... Never worked with Castner's before. Looked it up on Yelp, and saw the positive reviews. I had my 2006 Toyota Sequoia with low mileage towed here after it over heated, the engine sounded terrible and I knew it was probably not going to be good news. I wanted to get some answers for why it overheated and caused damage so quick. I just took a short trip to the grocery store and nothing was out of the ordinary, no sounds, no lights, no steam. I would have to had my eye on the temperature gauge to know that it was happening and who does that on a short trip to the grocery store? Ron tells me that my car was severely overheated and I need a new engine and it would cost me $10,000. I trusted him but I'm not going to just drop 10k without researching so I got a bunch of quotes from other shops for an engine swap and decided to go with another shop that was more reasonable and wasn't going to charge labor for accessories. On the way out I told him I was going with another shop and I asked one last time "are you sure it needs a new engine?" (just looking for reassurance, it's a big decision). This is when it got weird, he said "you're still in denial, you blew this engine, you have to really drive for a long time with a car bagging an popping for it to cause this kind of damage", as he's pointing his finger at me. So if you want to go to a mechanic that implies that you are a liar, troubleshoots the car assuming you abused it, and can't figure out how to call the right number (they said they called me 3 times and left 3 voicemails, still waiting for those), go to Castners. Turns out my engine has full compression in 7 out of 8 cylinders and one head gasket will take care of it. If Ron did a full investigation instead of assuming I destroyed my truck that I love out of negligence he would have found the same thing. Thanks for wasting my time and kicking me when I'm down. The experience of a friend makes me recommended them. Four not five stars because I've not used them but today added them into my contacts as an auto shop to remember. I liked the way my friend was treated when he had trouble with his Air Conditioning after a minor car accident that seemed to push into the A/C compressor. He was advised a few months ago by the mechanic of several possible causes for the A/C failure. This morning we added some A/C leak detector and noted the air conditioning did not get better, and the clutch within stopped engaging. My friend returned to the shop and reported: "Problem confirmed.... compressor. he took out all freon so ac clutch will not try to engage which could cause seizing up of pulley. No charge. Very professional and friendly." I'm very impressed to rate them with four out of five stars. read more

One word, Outstanding! Having multiple negative experiences due to our previous mechanic retiring and selling his business. We were faced with a tough decision to find a new mechanic. The stigma of being taken advantage of, due to lack of automotive mechanics was our biggest fear. Reaching out to our friends, we were recommended to Castners Auto Service. Having our immaculately maintained company service truck having an overheating problem had us reaching out for their opinion and expertise. From the initial inquiry, had us in a position feeling vulnerable due to our work truck being "down". Ron and team were comforting and precise. They reassured us they would get us up and running ASAP. We coordinated our tow with Veteran Tow and had the truck in their hands at 7:30am the following morning. This is my first time here. I used RepairSmith for a referral. I will definitely be back. Very nice family business. I came in for stalling with power loss, and a check engine light that kept going on and off. I had previously taken it to a mechanic that I have used for 2yrs, for my old and current vehicle, but I ended up getting charged for something that didn't fix the issue and they didn't even check the sensor that was tripping the code. Castners replaced the sensor and so far so good. They were very thorough with getting info from me as far as how my SUV was acting prior to bringing it to them; as well as what my previous mechanic did to "fix" the issue, and very thorough when explaining what was wrong and how it affects the performance of my vehicle. Repair also cost less than I was quoted over the phone. Very pleased. read more

These guys are a permanent part of history repairing cars in Placentia for more than 60 years. They fix cars right and are honest. I have used them many times and will continue to do so, they do not charge too much but they don't charge low prices that usually mean poor quality or adding things you don't need. These guys know what they are doing, are laid back and really care about you. I consider it a risk to try some of these other shops because they can really be, well... dishonest. read more

Went into this facility to get a smog check on our van, they took me right in and completed the smog check quickly and I was on my way. Unfortunately, she seems to be a co-owner, but she sure doesn't fit in with the rest of the friendy, honest, competent staff. She is rude, grumpy, and opinionated.
