Just used them to sharpen my chainsaw which came back razor sharp. It went through some mesquite like a hot knife through butter.

I enjoy stopping in at Knife Sharpest. The thin guy has been good to me. The big guy seems to be a little bit unfriendly to me. Don't know why. But, the service has been good. They seem to have succeeded in focusing in on a niche that is definitely neede in Austin. I wish there was a place like Knife Sharpest in central Austin. They have classes in knife throwing, too!! Very cool. You should really never have to live with dull knives with this place around. It's a gem. Go there. read more

These guys took great care of my nice kitchen knives. I was in and out in about 10 minutes and under $20. The staff was much more friendly than I expected from people who work at a knife shop. Someone from the back came out to compliment my taste in knives (why thank you!), which is always a plus. I also happened to hear one staff member on the phone with a customer, providing some really great advice on knife care, and good brand recommendations based on what cutting tasks you're up to. Smart staff? Quick service? Fair price? Flattery? Yes on all accounts, and I'll be going back regularly. read more

While not a clean, polished place, what they do is very good...sharpen knives. Reasonable prices. Discounts for quantity. (leave them and come back in a while. They do a big restaurant knife sharpening business so they are always busy.) Axes, scissors...they sharpen anything. They have had some guys working there in the past that are not real friendly but overall they do well. The prices for new knives are not great but the selection is decent to good, depending on what you are looking for. Wolf is often there, a rather strange fellow. Personally I do not mind the dirt or the fact that a sometimes there is a dog there (pit looking dog, VERY nice) Parking is weird. Not wheelchair accessible but if you call them they will come out and get your knives at your car. If you like a neighborhood place with a few characters and don't mind a little occasional dog drool, you will be very happy. Personally I love the place. (for me it is a 5 star but rated it four because there are issues that would bother some folks) : ) read more

Fast and super affordable! I was very pleased, as I know my knives were in rough shape, and Anthony brought them back to life. I highly recommend this small business! read more

After reading a few other reviews, I must confess to being confused. These guys were extremely helpful, friendly, and proficient. I took in two nice kitchen knives to be sharpened. They had them back to me in better-than-new condition in about 4 minutes. Beyond that, they showed the correct way to use a honing rod and told me to ignore the ridiculous method that TV chefs use (which only dulls the edges). It is also refreshing to have a staff not make you feel stupid for asking basic questions about their craft. Their prices are crazy low, which is good and bad: I hope they make enough to stay around for a long time! Thanks guys. read more

I don't know what everyone is talking about with the customer service, but I had a 100% great experience. I had a Shun that hadn't been taken care of and was pitted and awful. 5 minutes and $4 later. Boom! If you want your knives sharpened, go here. If you want something else...don't! read more

For the price, I don't think you can beat these guys. I routinely come across folks at farmers markets, etc. who want $6-7 per knife and knife sharpest is around $3 a knife plus they give you 1 free for every 6 you pay for. Great deal - I've used them 3 or 4 times and always enjoyed how well my knives cut afterward. I'll definitely keep using them and I think I'll sign up for a tomahawk throwing class while I'm at it. A knife throwing class, how cool is that!? May this local business remain for years to come. read more

This gentleman's business has been around for quite a while. The photo of his storefront is no longer as it was leveled to make more parking for Pinthouse Pizza. He's now in a storage unit closer to Anderson and Burnet. I brought 7 chef knives here to get sharpened. He straightened them out and sharpened them all in about 15 minutes and if you get 6 one, the 7th is free. It cost me under $30 for all of it. Also, Yelp discount if you check in on the app. read more

In wasn't impressed with their knives but I didn't come here for that. I came here to get my ditch axe sharpened. Best edge it's ever had! One day turnaround. Very reasonable price. Solid customer service. I will be a repeat customer. read more

These guys are badass. So you walk into the place and its a little creepy, like Maynard and Zed Pulp Fiction creepy. But I like creepy, so its all good. There's crazy swords all over the place, crazy knives in display cases, its practically a museum dedicated to cutlery. Except most of this cutlery you'd use to slice and dice people up with. Or, I don't know, maybe wild animals. But I'm cool with that too. You can hear the sound of knives being sharpened in the back room. The guys that work there look like they spent some good days rolling with biker gangs. I read a story on the wall from the Statesman and learn the head honcho is known as "Howling Wolf" (not to be confused with the blues legend). Howling Wolf is a wiry, tat'd, grizzled looking dude who wears a leather vest and has about 2 dozen knives strapped to his body. He's probably hiding about 2 dozen more. Dude has seen some scraps and you don't want to mess with him. While I'm sure there is some bite behind the bark, these guys are super nice. I don't mean to scare anyone off with this--the place has character, these guys have character, and its like a slice of real Austin (you know, pre-high rise condo days). Love it. I brought in a cleaver and chef's knife to get sharpened. They took the knives in the back, had them back out to me in under 10 minutes. Sharp. I'm going through everything like its warm butter. My onions are paper thin. My cleaver is hacking through bone. These guys do your blades justice. I think its about $3 or so a blade. Maybe $4. Well worth it to not hack my finger with a dull blade. And they complimented me on my Global chefs knife (which I highly recommend to anyone). And they do sell them there for a good price, so if you need a good chefs knife (of course you do), buy it from Howling Wolf and company. I expect I'll be going back here every couple of months for a touch up on my blades and so should everyone else. Oh yeah, they also apparently teach knife throwing classes! I mean how f-ing cool is that? So one of these days I reckon I'm going to learn to hurl knives at people cause you never know when that will come in handy. read more

These guys are friendly, fast and cheap. I bought a knife set on craigslist, and though they were in great condition, they needed to be sharpened. Hubs mentioned that Knife Sharpest was likely the closest place to us in town. I called for a sharpening quote (they are really cheap) and headed over there on Saturday. When I dropped off my knives, he asked if it would be ok if they kept them until Monday. Of course! I was impressed that they'd be done in less than a week. Their hours and location make it convenient to get to after work on a weekday too. I didn't shop around much, but I did notice they have CRKT knives, so I will definitely be back to shop for gifts for my brothers. read more

Excellent service. Incredibly good work. I stopped in 2 hours before closing on the day before Thanksgiving, and walked out no more than ten minutes later with a perfectly sharpened knife. The owner is a very nice guy and very knowledgeable. I recommend this business without reservation. An excellent bargain for a very professional service. read more

I dropped off four knives to be sharpened - Global G-4 and G-17, and Henckels Pro S 8" chef's knife and 7" Granton-edge santoku. The knives were all fairly sharp, having been professionally sharpened six months ago and steeled after every use, but had little nicks. It was time for a light sharpening. All four knives were returned dull. Not a single one was capable of barking hair or easily penetrating tomato skin. From the appearance of the bolster on the Henckels 8" chef and the proximity of edge to Granton scallops on the santoku, I estimate that approximately 1/16" of steel was removed. The rocker on the 8" chef's knife was clearly increased from removing excess material. Next time I want a Knife Sharpest-quality job, I'll go beat my knives against a rock. read more

Brought my first chef knife in it had seen some abuse an had a dip in the blade near the butt from me learning to sharpen it. Within minutes it was better than new and super reasonably priced. My kitchen knives are like new! Great job, fair prices ($3.50 for regular blade, $4.50 for a serrated) and quick work. I will be taking my knives here regularly. read more

Why did we wait so long??? Our knives are as sharp as razors!! Cool little place, dealt with Marie who was the sweetest thing, they literally had our knives done in like 10 minutes. Very reasonable and they were very friendly, had two big ole dogs roaming around, people checking out the knife collections, and she even sells fresh eggs.... of course only in Austin...... We cook all the time and having sharp knives is not only so much easier to prepare our dishes with, it is a must for safety, they are actually sharper than when we first bought them!! Very happy and highly recommend, we will be back on a regular basis and next time we will buys some eggs!! read more

Rude, I drove in from out of town to have my knives sharpened. In the past I've always been able to wait on them. The lone employee doesn't do that anymore places your tools in the line. Sorry I'm not leaving my knives to wait for a call to come back and pick them up. Basically yelled at me to get out of the shop. I'll trade else where! read more

I was sooo skeptical on whether or not I should have my knives sharpened here. My Wüsthof Classic knives from Williams-Sonoma are my most prized possession from my kitchen!!! Anywho- my knives are definitely sharper but they were poorly sharpened. I had them sharpened last March in Kansas City and they were so sharp. In comparison to that, I'm highly disappointed. read more

When I was in beauty school these guys would show up in a van and conveniently sharpen all the students shears for an affordable ten bucks per shear. I just went to them for the first time since graduating and it was the same great, quick service. I only wish they could drive their van to my house! read more

Been here twice now. I have never had knives as sharp as the ones I had sharpened here. The people working here are the kind of people I would want sharpening my knives. One of the guys wears a leather vest that looks like the one Danny Trejo wears in Desperado, you know, the one holding all the knives. I was pretty stoked. While you wait, you can play with some big ass knives. Also I haven't found another place to get my knives sharpened. Don't need to know. read more

I can't speak to the quality of knife sharpening that goes on here. I can speak to... knife throwing and tomahawk throwing lessons! I called a few years back for a lesson for a unique anniversary present for my hubs. It was SO FUN. The instructor- Cliff- was so friendly and hilarious and a great teacher. By the end of the lesson we were both throwing knives and tomahawks like pros. Seriously one of the funnest experiences of my adult life. Probably not for everyone but we loved it! Thanks Cliff! read more

Not much pretense in this place... the sight of Global kitchen knives on display in the otherwise lowbrow looking environs convinced me my knives were in good hands, though, and they were: No-nonsense, quick service done right. My beloved kitchen knives came back sharper than ever - sharper than what I could ever achieve with whetstone and honing steel. Now that's what I call #winning! read more

A reasonably good edge at the proper geometry and a great price. You can't beat the prices for sharpening chainsaw blades. I think it was like six bucks for a chainsaw and it saved me a lot of time. I've had a few knives sharpened there too and was generally happy with the results. On a larger piece I noticed that the grinding left visible marks and I had to re-work the whole thing, but at least the basic geometry was right so what they did left me with a good starting point. This isn't the highest quality blade polishing by a long shot, but it will do just fine for your average person. Sure, take your basic cheapo kitchen knives there, but for a sword or a really fine blade I would think twice about it or at least ask them very specifically about what you are getting. Realistically, you won't get katana grade sharpening anywhere for what they are charging. read more

I'm not sure why it took me so long to finally take my knives here to get them sharpened... I'm so glad I did!! I brought in 9 knives and some garden shears and I couldn't be happier. I dropped them off on a Saturday afternoon and when I returned in 30 minutes they were all done. My knives can cut through almost anything now. They are wizzing right through tomato skin just the way that they did when I first got them. Cooking is much more enjoyable again!! read more

I can't speak to the knife sharpening here, but as for the knife throwing class - what a fantastic way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I took the class today with three friends and all of us had a blast. Cliff was a great teacher; he was quick with the basics and got us out throwing within a few minutes, then moved between the group to offer feedback and suggestions. He was also warm, funny, and clearly has a deep appreciation and enjoyment of this; if you're interested in the science of the spin and rotation to improve your accuracy, he's got you covered. All four of us were hitting the target with decent accuracy with both knives and tomahawks by the end of the session (I preferred the knives, but I'll admit the tomahawks were very satisfying to throw). Highly, highly recommend. read more

Based on the previous reviews, I was prepared to encounter a surly, abrasive staff at Knife Sharpest. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and helpful all three of the guys working there were. They sharpened my knives in about 5 minutes, and each one of them joked with my kids. My two most-used knives are sharp and I'm only out about $8... Cant beat that! read more

New management has provided great service so far. They're quick and helpful, and I'll definitely be returning on a regular basis!

I am an oboe player and went in on the advice of a fellow oboist to adjust my mandrel. Mandrels help hold the tube while a very small piece of cane is wrapped around the tube to make an oboe reed. My hands are pretty small and the new mandrel I had just purchased was not only too big and too long but it was too heavy. I wanted to see if they could cut the handle down or something to help. I measured where the handle would best be cut, the guy in the front went to the back and emerged about three minutes later with a much shorter mandrel that actually fit in my hand! AWESOME! The guy also said that if that didn't work, he would put me in touch with the guy who makes custom knife handles . . . AWESOME! Great customer service! THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!! read more

Our whole family took knife throwing lessons with Clifford and it was a blast. He is an excellent teacher. Before the hour was up, everyone was consistently sticking knives in the target from a variety of distances. Clifford was able to quickly diagnose the cause of any problems, and then just as quickly fix them with a small adjustment to your throwing form. This was a great family activity - we laughed and learned together! read more
