We've lived in Texas for several years and this was one of the most fun things we have ever done! It was my oldest bday and she loves knives. We walked in and they had a cancellation. Jay was absolutely amazing and so patient. Her knife took about 2 hrs to make and we had such a great time it felt like 20 minutes. He had great stories and kept us engaged. He communicated clearly with rules, expectations, and what each step was that she had to work on next. He had us laughing so much. Vic was another brother that was great. He kept my youngest, 9 yr old, engaged and had her complete attention. He was patient and helped her stand correctly and how to hold the hammer. And he had to repeat himself many times but never lost patience with her. He showed us how to make different nail swords and let her help too. This is a family business and honestly it is a must for any visitors, tourist, or even Texans that never see what's around them (like us!). I totally recommend bringing your family or friends. We won't regret it and you'll go home with a unique gift that you made yourself. read more

Friendly service and a fun experience. They have some premade stuff available in store. I think it's worth the price to forge yourself. read more

Surtr Forge - The teacher is usually really helpful - Knife Sharpening Near Me - New Braunfels, Texas

It was an amazing experience for my grandfather and me! We had an absolute blast from start to finish. The two gentlemen who ran the shop were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience enjoyable. Building our own knives was an incredible value, and it was easily the best of our visit. The outdoor workshop where everything took place was clean, well organized, and created a hands-on experience. I was a little nervous at first, but once we got into the shop, listened to the instructor , and received all the safety instructions. Zeus was an awesome instructor, I felt completely comfortable. Everything was explained clearly, and the process went smoothly. I highly recommend checking this place out, whether you're looking to purchase a quality knife or build your own. It's a unique experience that I would gladly come and do again! read more

We had the best time here with the nice gentlemen at Surtr. My son LOVED making his knife. It was a great balance of caring about safety but not stuffy and they let you actually have fun and be a part of the process. It's a beautiful art- totally worth it! And a super fun way to support our amazing Veterans and their small business. read more

My dad and I thought this would be a fun to do together so we reached out to book and they never got back to us. I called in the morning and asked if they had any openings at 4 and the guy on the phone was kinda rude and said technically yes but I was gonna close early but I guess I can fit you in. I was super thankful and excited but when we showed up I was shocked by the unprofessional, vulgar and unsafe behavior of the worker. He sat off to the side making his own bracelet and gave us almost no guidance and didn't help or check on us. He told us to do whatever the F we wanted and he didn't care. Halfway through he informed us he was an "idiot" because he didn't have us sign the safety waiver! Honestly we had fun but it was extremely uncomfortable and we just kinda had to figure out what to do and listen to him tell uncomfortable stories and cuss up a storm. We also never got his name but he was a younger man in his 20s. read more

Excellent value for the forging experience! The customer service is impeccable. This family business takes pride in the whole experience & it shows! We forged a bracelet, small knife, and medium knife. One adult, two children. All were totally able & very interested in the entire process. Which was explained thoroughly & all questions & curiosities answered. We spent about 2.5 hours and came away with treasured handicrafts. Great way to spend a morning in Greune. Such great service & full hearts backing this business. Lots of love. read more

Husband and I stumbled upon Caylor Forge while having lunch near by. We saw the building sign and decided to stop by and sooo glad we did!!!! It was such a fun experience! Victor was a great instructor. Considering I do not mess with fire at all ( not even grilling) I became very comfortable with the torch under Victor's guidance. My husband made a knife out of a horse shoe and had a blast! We are so glad to have found this shop. Would absolutely recommend to anyone coming to San Antonio! It was a highlight of our trip! read more

Our spring break in Gruene was greatly enhanced by bringing the 6 kids (aged 7-17) to Caylor & Forge. They all chose to forge a knife from a horse shoe. Jesus was incredibly kind, patient, professional and knowledgeable and did a great job guiding the kids to make their knives. Everything from start to finish was fun, engaging and performed to very high safety standards. Our kids had so much fun making their knives and then enjoying peeling apples and working with their knives at their campsite. I would highly recommend a visit to Caylor and Forge if you have kids who are able to follow instructions well, and enjoy creating a masterpiece, as well as making amazing memories! So glad we were able to do this with our kids. Thanks Jesus!! read more

We were visiting San Antonio from Charleston SC. My 20 year old son who is a hunter and fisherman was interested in forging a knife. The brother snd sister duo were very friendly and knowledgeable about their trade. My son really enjoyed working with with them to forge his knife despite the 100 degree heat. We highly recommend that you visit Caylor Forge Blacksmith shop it is a great experience. Also I suggest you read about their family at www.reforged.org. It's a great cause! read more
