Love this studio. It's everything a yoga studio needs to be. Kind, professional staff, clean, it smells good (which is a thing I have about hotels and studios/gyms-they must smell good), beautiful colors ( they have a really nice new tree mural inside), and welcoming students. My first class here was vinyasa with weights. I've taken other yoga classes, mostly kundalini, but I will tell you, vinyasa with weights is quite a wonderful workout. I'm still in the process of choosing my next regiment, but if yoga is your preferred fitness practice, I 100% recommend Austin Yoga Tree. Let me know if you try it. Namaste. read more

I am verrrry picky about my yoga and tried several different studios before joining Yoga Tree. The Iyengar classes here are top notch! The quality of the teaching is so motivating, and I have fun at the same time. I drive 30 minutes from Georgetown to get to the studio, and it is well worth the traffic. I was given a 3 day training for my birthday. Two days before the training my mother passed and I was told I was not able to get a refund. Eventually I was given a half refund for the training only. ( I had rented props as well). I can't even begin to describe the feeling of having to justify a refund two days after watching my mom die. The lack of understanding or compassion was painful and completely antithetical to ahimsa ( loving kindness). The focus on profit over people just hurt. I'm sure the studio is great and the teachers are great. But the business operations- not great. read more

I have been practicing different styles of yoga for over 12 years. I have to be very careful with my neck and spine due to end stage degenerative disc disease. There are actual yoga therapists on staff that have been extremely helpful in helping me work around my limitations. I am new to Iyengar style of yoga and it has advanced me more and given me more relief than all my years of yoga, Pilates and personal training to date. The teachers are top-notch, the environment is clean,quiet and serene and the staff is impeccably courteous. I totally appreciate that they supply all yoga props and they have several "toys" that I have never encountered in any other yoga studio ... and I have been to dozens of them! I've been attending classes at AYT for over a year and could not be more pleased with my experience. In that time, I've sampled just about every one of the many different classes they offer. No matter what you are seeking, you'll likely find it at AYT: Yin, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Kundalini, Yoga Wall, Restorative, Meditative - if one class doesn't quite suit you, just try another! With this kind of variety, you are bound to find something you l.o.v.e. The instructors are all top notch - very supportive, nurturing, and educated. I've tried two classes here, and really enjoyed one while the other just wasn't for me. The studio itself is very nice, they do a great job of making forget you're in a shopping center off a major road.. very secluded and relaxing feel. The two instructors and girl at the front desk were so welcoming and calming, I enjoyed my interactions with them very much. The vinyasa class was very good, well paced and challenging, and gave me the major mental relaxation at the end of the class that I'm looking for. The restorative class wasn't for me, I went as a challenge to myself and to quiet and center my full speed brain but the class was too slow. I want to clarify, it wasn't a bad class and the other people in class seemed to be regulars, but doing 5 poses in an hour is just too slow for me. However, I would happily come back here for another vinyasa class! read more

I was a fan of Bikram Yoga until I started Iyengar yoga at Austin Yoga Tree and I've found my perfect place! I've been going to AYT for the last 4 yrs now. A few things to highlight: 1. I've practiced yoga for over 20 years, have experienced many different styles of yoga, and have participated in yoga teacher training as well. I was never attracted to Iyengar yoga, because the rules seemed too intense. However, my new home is near this studio, so I gave it a chance. What a way to open AND change my mind! For over a year, I've been dealing with a knee injury that affected my hip because I kept pushing myself too hard in flow classes, kept my running schedule, and basically tried to ignore my pain. I began to attend the Iyengar classes because they were convenient, but found the practice incredibly helpful to eliminating my pain and gaining back much of the core strength I had lost from improperly dealing with my injuries. The instruction of Jonathan and Pablo is so clear, I was able to use the new knowledge of my body and asana to develop a rehab home practice. Staying with it has really helped me mentally and physically. Iyengar is a great practice for gaining strength and flexibility; reducing my beer gut has just been a side benefit of staying with this practice. I feel lucky that I live close to Austin Yoga Tree. read more

Austin Yoga Tree found the perfect niche to fill by opening their laid-back studio on Anderson Mill Road. I've tried other yoga classes previously, but I know I won't be going regularly unless it's fairly close to home or work. In this case, it's both. Their instruction focuses mainly on the Iyengar Method, which is a fairly accessible form of yoga. Most classes don't move quickly or require prior knowledge, so you can learn as you go. They provide all the mats and props you need or you can bring your own. Everything is clean and well organized. They also offer a few classes in Hatha and Vinyasa Flow, and a mat Pilates class. So there's some variety if you want to try different approaches with different instructors. You can join on a monthly unlimited class basis without a contract (look for discounts at check in and with Groupon) or by the class or block of classes, like most other studios in town. It's worth doing the membership cost-wise if you're going to go at least twice a week. I've had great results doing that for a few months. The studio itself is fairly large and has high ceilings. And they don't heat it for classes, both of which are bonuses for me, because extreme heat in small spaces sends me right over the edge. Yoga is supposed to be peaceful, right? The only caution I would give you is to check their class schedule before you sign up for a membership, and make sure the class times work for you. They're still fairly new so they don't have a huge number of classes, and not very many during evenings and weekends. That may change as the classes fill up and more people give feedback as to what works for them, but as for now it's a bit limited unless your schedule is flexible or you work non-traditional hours. read more

I just started trying out their classes last week during their grand opening, and I've LOVED every class. I'm a complete novice, but all of the instructors I've had so far are great about asking about injuries, helping me get into the correct positions, and making it a fun, but challenging experience. I feel awesome afterwards, and they provide free tea if you have a few minutes after class to sit and relax. Highly recommended. My other classmates have ranged from people in their early 20s to 60s or 70s, and there is no "showing off," or big egos (like you might see in a gym or other exercise classes). Whole atmosphere is calm, inviting, and encouraging. One last thing, I knew going in that yoga is a very spiritual experience, but I don't feel like any certain philosophy, religion, or worldview is being pushed at ALL, which I appreciate. As a Christian, I want to experience the exercise, the calming effects, and the meditation WITHOUT it becoming something contrary to my own beliefs, and I feel like that is easily achieved in this space. read more

I wanted to give an update about Austin Yoga Tree and how it has improved my life. They have a wonderful variety of yoga classes / instructors. I love taking the different classes - from restorative to Iyengar. I have found much mental peace from practicing yoga, as well as physical strength. The gem at this studio is the Life Coaching classes taught by Jonathan. If you are ready for change in your life, this is the place to be. Over the last few months, Life Coaching has given me the tools to finish a huge writing project, improve my personal relationships, and grow as a human being. Jonathan insures a safe environment for participants to face their fears in a no-nonsense practical approach. The homework he and I create for myself has helped me develop healthy habits, resulting in finished projects and inner peace. What else could I ask for?! Too good to be true? No, not really. Austin Yoga Tree provides me the opportunities to achieve whatever I am willing to work for. And, the good news (for me right now) is I am willing to do the work. Jonathan and Edith remind me that AYT is a not a "studio" - it's a "community". Community is defined as a group of people living in the same area or have the same interest. While this may be true for AYT, I'd like to better their description and call them a "fellowship", because it is the relationships built here - between the students, the teachers and the owners - that has me coming back for more, pushing myself to new goals. I took mat palates on Saturday, Vinyasa flow on Monday and just got back from a relaxing session of restorative yoga. The owners and instructors make the studio a friendly and welcoming place. As far as I am concerned, this is the best studio in Austin. All the teachers have many years of experience, and quite a few are yoga therapists. Iyengar is a disciplined form of yoga that turns the mind inward to create deep concentration and awareness of muscles and body alignment. But it need not be hard. The instructors are welcoming to beginners and offer many props to enable the fullest expression of the pose one's body is able to do at any certain time. I LOVE THIS STUDIO! Jonathan and the other teachers are friendly, warm, and very talented. My favorite classes so far are the Iyengar classes with Jonathan, some of which are wall classes. This is a new style of yoga for me and I'm impressed by how much I feel my ten-year hatha practice deepening after just a few classes. I also love Jill's restorative classes and Jonathan's life mastery coaching classes (such a unique but appropriate addition to a yoga studio!) Yoga Tree is striving for and achieving a real sense of community, making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age or level of practice. I am new to yoga and advancing in years so I was very cautious. I started with the Restorative class and then Yoga and Mobility (see previous comment). I want to continue my forward movement and growth because a significant change in my life allowed me to choose fear instead. AYT has helped me realize I cannot move forward if fear is where I start. If you need to unwind and calm your mind, try Jill's restorative classes. Finally, Jonathan's most important work is his Life Mastery class, which has helped me consider my values and the "why" of what I'm doing. That was good and all, and the yoga was cool, though I think I could have got just got a good enough work out with my Rodney Yee DVDs at home. Life coaching not my thing though and seems odd to be getting dramatic, soulful life advice on Anderson Mill across the street from a Speedy Mart convenience store. That cultish stuff turns me off, so I wouldn't recommend, but dang that Lipton Tea was good. Finding the good with the bad is my life coach advice. read more

I went to the Vinyasa class on Tuesday night and it was perfect. It was my first time there and it was dark and raining, so it took me a minute to find it. I have been practicing various yoga styles for 15 years and have been to several yoga studios in town. The studio has nice big ceilings, the ambience is so perfect and relaxing and everyone is welcoming. I loved every second of my practice there. We used props and I felt very relaxed and euphoric afterwards. I stayed and had tea and chatted with others afterwards. Great studio space, clean and airy. I have done yoga for many years on and off and I feel that this studio has the right vibe I was looking for, no frills, highly technical and down to earth methology, always with a touch of humor. Really enjoyed discovering Iyengar yoga through classes with Jonathan since this studio opened. Each class has a different focus and style. The Saturday Power Yoga class with Ani is amazing because not only does she make you sweat, she will do hands on adjustments and provide you lavender scented towels during the shivasna. I really enjoy coming to Austin Yoga Tree. Before coming here, I've done yoga a couple different times. Ive always left with my clothes drenched in sweat. I've noticed when I leave here, I'm barely sweaty, but I'm walking taller and with better posture. Jonathan really makes sure everyone's form is correct before moving onto the the next position. I also think he concentrates more on mind and spirit, which I love, because you leave there feeling collected. He's very patient and very helpful! Very nice people at the Austin yoga tree. I check my bank account this morning January 16 and I have a $79 fee that is unauthorized and I have not used any services. WTF?!?! Who does that?
