I'm so thankful for this place because it's so hard to find a place you can trust, let alone, find a place that will EXCEED your expectations! I live in Ft Worth now but I still drive back to Austin whenever possible to take my car to be serviced here. Their customer service and expertise is unmatched. I never worry I'm going to be taken advantage of here - I even brought my car in for a check up one time and they didn't find anything wrong so they didn't charge me a dime. I love Austin VeeDub!!! read more

When I had my Passat this place was a life saver. The 1 area dealership was overpriced and would rip me off every time I came in. This place was great, honest, and fair. I still got rid of the Passat because it was junk. read more

This is the most straightforward repair place I have ever visitied. I had been getting my '04 Touareg serviced at the dealer until I came across them. Less expensive and way more focused on being helpful, informative and convenient. Very upfront about how problematic the Touaregs are (sadly living this reality), about what they can work on and what they think should be done at a dealer due to complexity of the issue. Nice to find an honest opinion that is ok with not doing the repair work if they don't think it should be done or refering you elsewhere if it's not their specific expertise. read more

They are the worst when in comes to communicating back to you and giving you an update. Even when they say they will call you back, they don't. They had my car for almost 2 month, they told me week after week that it would be ready, yet a week would pass and it wasn't, first they were trying to fix a part, then they had to order a part,... blah blah .. I 'd call them and they'd say "O yeah next week", and another week passed by and still not ready. Although I had a lot of things done to it, don't tell me it will be ready next week just to blow me off, give me a actual estimate off how long it will take. Finally almost 2 months later it was actually ready. Everything seemed fixed and running, then two days later check engine light comes on. I drop it off again on a Saturday morning, call them Monday morning to get a status and they said "we'll get to it this afternoon and let you know". Of course no call back, so I call them again around closing time and they say "O we're sorry, we haven't gotten to it, we didn't know you needed the car back that quickly, we'll hook it up to the computer tomorrow morning to see what the problem is" .. Really? why else would I drop off a car on a Saturday? so you can have it all day Monday and do nothing with it?...ughhh... They might do good work but I wouldn't know since I haven't had the car back long enough to know. I'm gonna call them daily now and tell them yes I need the car back ASAP... If you use them I hope you have a spare car to drive ... read more

They WAY overcharged me for a wheel bearing and totally missed that my coolant hose was gushing coolant everywhere. I mean the warning light was dinging every 30 seconds and I TOLD them to look at it. Take your business else where. read more

We have brought our '97 and '03 Jettas to VeeDub since 2004, when Dempsey was still the Service Manager. Even after we left Austin (first for Atlanta and now Toronto), we would have our regular service done on the '03 whenever we visited Austin in summer or new year's. Darryl, Adam, Mike and all the other techs have always been super. [I try to time my visits with the 10am taco truck, too.] Someone here said Darryl treats women differently than he treats men. I don't think that's true; my partner is a big Darryl fan, too. Darryl does not treat women differently from men, but Darryl does treat women differently than any other mechanic or service manager I've ever dealt with. He doesn't explain things like you're a woman or can't understand cars. And that's probably why he gets such rave reviews from the women on Yelp. [Adam's great about this, too.] As a teenager, I did oil changes and tune-ups on my Fiero, and now I'm a professor. But, I'm short, blonde, and often told I look younger than I am. I've had more mechanics and service managers than I care to recall try to feed me a bunch of bull or fail to adequately explain a repair. Darryl and Adam are both great about listening, answering questions, and explaining repairs, and are not condescending when they do.That's probably why they have so many female fans on Yelp. [They also don't suffer fools. And, yeah, you have to call back about your car because they are, well, super busy. I have to book my annual maintenance before I even hit the road toward Austin if I hope to have it done while I'm there. But I still do because I can trust these guys.] I've also called Darryl from Atlanta or Toronto when I needed something done to one of the Jettas between Austin visits, and he's been willing to answer questions and tell me if the quote/repair suggested made sense given the symptoms. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! Everyone is is friendly and they are not trying to take your last penny. These guys know their VW's old and new! I have a 2002 Jetta, had a 69 BUS and used the graveyard for everything with the BUS. My Jetta is only trusted to EO and why not HE'S HONEST! What??? An honest mechanic? YES they exist@ Austin VeeDub. The guys at the front, side and all over are so nice and don't think you're stupid for asking "stupid" questions. They also have parts for all makes and models if you think you're a good enough mechanic to do it yourself. AND if you do, you can ask them questions to help your fix it, and they answer you! Amazing RIGHT? Any-hoo..You will not be disappointed in these guys. They are your friend:) read more

Just returned from another successful visit at Austin VeeDub. Darryl is the greatest. I went it because my car was shutting itself off unexpectedly. Darryl got me in on the same day for a scan/diagnosis, overnighted the part to the shop and had it fixed in less than 24 hours. All for less than $150. The diagnosis was completely free of charge. While all that's great, I want to express that its not just about the work they did to my car (which is superb) but the fact that they really take care of their clients. Everybody (especially Darryl) that I've encountered at Austin VeeDub is exceptionally friendly and helpful. I feel like I've known them all for years, when I've only been here for a few months. I cannot recommend them enough! read more

The entire staff (Darryl, John, and everyone!) is exceptionally nice, generous and willing to answer any questions. Two years ago they priced my repair at half the cost of Charles Maund VW and ever since then I've been taking my car to Veedub. I'm so happy to have found an auto repair shop staff that I trust. Bring your car here now! read more

These guys are just great. Owning a European car, even a VW, usually means you get used to getting ploughed on repairs. Not so here. These guys are very laid back, very honest, and very reasonable in the price department. They also know VWs backward and forward. Everyone I met seemed to take time to cultivate a personal relationship with me, rather than take my money and show me the door. read more

These guys kicked a$$ again! We brought over my fiancee's bug that we thought needed a TON of work. Unfortunately we didn't make an appointment, but they immediately (I think it was Darryl) read the engine codes to check for the engine light reason, drove it for a second to see the cause of the problem, and told us what we needed right there on the spot! I know for a FACT other mechanics' would have booked it in without looking, gave us a ton of bs, and ran up the bill just to make money. They were so incredibly helpful that now I'm considering buying a VW (0% interest for 60 months right now). I've NEVER had better experiences with a mechanic as I have with VeeDub. We bought some of the parts from them, and were recommended what to do ourselves to save money, and we'll be bringing the car back (with an appointment) to fix any other issues. Thanks guys! If you own a VW, or any other car they can service, this is THE BEST place to take it! read more

I work with body shops from all over the city on a daily basis as an insurance claims adjuster, and I can say from experience that this shop is the best shop in Austin for VW owners. The guys here treat you with respect and handle your repairs quickly and at a fair price. I have never felt like I was being taken advantage of as a woman needing help with her vehicle. I have used German Auto Center in the past when I lived further North, and would recommend people stay far away from that place. Austin Vee Dub is the only shop you'll ever need for your VW!!! read more

Caveat Emptor - Get a quote, verify the written quote and make them stick to the quote. I took my 2000+ Beetle in for suspension work after getting several quotes from dealers and other shops. The $'s matched the verbal quote over the phone, but there were parts that we had not discussed. I asked and was told that the mechanic found those issues on a previous service and recommended the parts be replaced. My car had never been there before. I told them and they noted they would change the quote. When I picked up my Beetle, the price was close to what we agreed on verbally, so I paid and drove back to work. After reviewing the bill, I noticed that the parts were still on the bill, so I called and got the same explanation regarding the mechanic identifying the need on a previous visit. Remember, there was no previous visit. When I pointed out that error, I was again assured the parts did indeed need to be replaced because they were "failing" and would cause the car to overheat. I told them it felt fishy, fraudulent. I also advised them that my experience with mechanics is that they generally don't replace parts without getting your approval, first. He then advised me that he had adjusted the overall labor and parts to cover the parts and that the cost was approximately what we had discussed. Get a written quote and stick with it. read more

Honest guys that do good work. Daryl and Adam rock!

The service manager wanted to charge me one hour each for each of the diagnostic codes resulting from the check engine light. Probably because I told him I won't want to pay $125 labor (1.5 hours work) for something that should only take 15 minutes or less for me to do (change out the ignition coil). And another $220 labor (2.75 hours) for replacing a power relay. Other shops have only charge 30 minutes for plugging in the diagnostic computer and getting the diagnostic codes, instead of the 2 hours the service manager wanted to charge me. I ended up paying for 1 hour for getting the diagnostic codes. Pretty much a waste of time and money. read more

Hello! I've never written one of these before, but felt that I had to. I live in New Orleans and drove out to Austin for a wedding. When I drove through Houston, things started going terribly wrong with my 2003 Jetta. It was overheating, a piece of the exhaust dropped off (got a temporary fix in Columbus at Deezee auto - also awesome!), the car was shaking, etc. I called VeeDub early Saturday morning and they said to bring it in and they would see if they could fit it in. They not only were able to see me, but were able to make the necessary fixes so I could drive back to New Orleans on Sunday and not be stranded. And they didn't overcharge me. If i lived in Austin, this would be the only place that I would go. read more

I drive a 1983 VW Scirocco so it was a little daunting to find a place that I trusted with my car when I first bought it. A VW buddy of mine told me about VeeDub and the rest is history. Just turning into the place is heaven for any Volkswagen fan. You see all different kinds of VW styles and generations. You instantly feel comfortble with leaving your car to this place. If that's not enough to put you at ease, then you speak to Darryl..... This guy is no nonsense, BS, blowing-smoke-up-your-ash-kind of mechanic. This guy at times can be very blunt and forward with your car and it's problems. But that's why this guy is awesome. He doesn't beat around the bush. He tells you what is wrong with your car. He tells you what you need to do with your car. He can supply you with brand new OEM parts or gives you the option to buy refurb and reman and save some money in the process. Talk to him personally and you will see what I mean. He knows his stuff and from what I understand, he started there as a parts puller. In the year and a half I've been rebuliding my car, I really have no idea what I would do without a place like VeeDub and a guy like Darryl. If you have a VW, or any german car for that matter, take it to VeeDub- you won't be let down. read more

Do not bring your air cooled to these numb skulls, particularly Keith. This moron will mess up more than he fixes and make all kinds of excuses, none valid. Couldn't even install a new turn signal, I have to hand actuate it now, my horn doesn't work and my steering wheel is loose. I had to bring my car back after he reconnected my shift lever and returned it dumping oil, it previously had no leaks, then had the balls to try and give me an invoice for fixing it. If you value communication and being told the truth, do not go here. I dropped of my car for service on a Saturday and was told it would be ready on Monday morning. Having received no phone calls by 10:00 AM on Monday, I called to find out when my car would be ready. It took 3 phone calls before I got any information (after both service reps blamed the other for not calling me). I was then told at 3:00 PM on Monday that if I authorized $1000 worth of repairs right then, they could have the car ready by EOD Tuesday. On Tuesday I received no phone call whatsoever. On Wednesday morning, I called to confirm my car was ready to be picked up and was told that "it was taking a while to remove all the parts that were in the way to install the new parts." My car was not ready until Wednesday afternoon. When I was asked to pay the full amount, I explained the lack of communication (I initiated all but one phone call in 5 days, aside from the final call to tell me the car was ready). The manager went back to speak to the service department. She came back and told me that the part did not come in on time and that's why it took them extra time. OK, I understand that. What I don't understand is not keeping your "valued" customer informed of a delay like this, especially when the customer is making alternative transportation arrangements around the information provided (or lack thereof). In addition, the service department either lied to me about the process of work or lied to the manager about the part not coming in. Her response was an un-empathetic "sorry the part didn't come in." Austin VeeDub: If you value your customers, you talk to them. You keep them informed and you don't lie to them. The mechanics might do great work but your customer service is non-existent. You lost a customer and gained a vocal opponent. read more

I can't say enough about Juan and his exemplary service. I thought my car was on it's last leg after needing several parts replaced and issues fixed over the last year. I was taking my car to a shop near my house, when another shop I had my car towed to after it broke down on the east side, recommended Austin VeeDub. I figured if another shop is recommending a competitor, I'd better listen. I had my car towed again and once it arrived, Juan called me and let me know when he'd be able to look at it. From that point, Juan's communication was always timely and he even texted me after hours to give me an update on the issues and pricing. I had to go back 3 more times because of other issues that came up and each time the issues, details, and pricing were discussed so I felt like I was making educated decisions about my car. I just picked my car up, hopefully for the last time in a while, and I can say without a doubt, that it's running better than it has in five years and it's cost me half of what I would've paid to the shop near my house. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

My visit to Austin VeeDub did not go well. Got some info over the phone, but they would not provide a written quote when I arrived. Car repair took 5 business days and spanned a weekend. (7 days total) Some of the work I asked for was not completed. It appears that since they didn't have a written quote, no one remembered the list of items I asked to be serviced. The cover on the bottom of the car, under the engine was missing when it came back from Austin VeeDub. They knew nothing about it and clearly would not take my word it was missing. Cost of work was almost 2 times what I was quoted at 2 other VW repair shops in Austin. No one in the service department seemed to know what they were doing. When I called after 3 days to ask if the car was done, it took almost 20 minutes before someone got on the phone that knew about my car. Austin VeeDub never knew when my car would be completed. One day it was waiting for parts, another day it was being serviced, and another day it was parts again. Work and service was so poor that I will never go back there again. read more

About six months ago I was told I had a bad compressor and it would require almost $500 in repairs. Not having that much money, I decided to wait to have it fixed. Now that the summer has come around, I decided to bite the bullet and pay to have it fixed. I have gone to Austin VeeDub in the past and they have always done great work. This most recent time was no exception. Juan checked it out in less than fifteen minutes. He couldn't believe that I was told the issue was a bad compressor when all it needed was a recharge. It was very minor, and he had me out of there in less than an hour. His honesty and great customer service is just one example of these stand up guys. Mike Hall has done a lot of engine work on my partner's cars. And it is always top notch. He doesn't just patch, he actually fixes. Mike is also very good about communication and explaining his process. Mike and Juan's years of experience makes me as a customer very confident in their work. Also, their price per hour is super fair. As a female with no car knowledge, I don't worry about being taken advantage of. read more

I've been buying new and used parts for a '72 Beetle from these guys for years but this was the first time they've worked on a car of mine, my 2007 Rabbit. I took it in for the 60K service and admitted to them that I had missed the 40K service and hadn't had any of the filters changed. They were very patient with me and did a fantastic job with getting the car back up to speed. The guy who actually worked on the car, Mike, came out and talked to me about all the things he did and gave me some suggestions to help make my next servicing a little less brutal. Ryan the office manager was super helpful and kind, and the general manager even gave me a ride to work that morning because the usual driver hadn't shown up yet. I've appreciated these guys for years for entirely other reasons, but now I'll never take my VW anywhere else. I'm even getting ready to take my 72 in to have them work some magic on it. Great guys, great experience, and great shop cats to help calm the nerves! read more

After checking out other reviews on YELP for Austin VeeDub, I was excited and encouraged to visit them for my car service needs. My estimate for the replacement for a catalytic converter was 1,000 and labor at 190.00 an hour. This price seemed high. I called Meineke and received a 400.00 estimate including labor. AND, the representative at Meineke was kind enough to remind me the service would be covered at a dealership because my car was under 80,000 miles, so I could go to the dealership and have the part replaced completely free of charge. Do your homework. I can't speak to their labor, but I certainly would not recommend them as an establishment that will attempt to offer fair estimates. read more

I have to say, after reading all the reviews on Yelp for Austin VeeDub, I thought I had hit the jackpot. Interestingly enough, my experience was exactly the opposite. Yes, they were quite nice - but I got quoted $2500 for some body work on my Audi that my DEALERSHIP (yes, you read that right - the place that is supposed to rip you off) did for less than $1000. VeeDub estimated over 20 hours of work, when in fact, it took about 4. Needless to say, I'm more than disappointed with my experience with Austin VeeDub, and I would caution anyone who decides to go there to REALLY do your homework. read more

I love Darryl at Austin Vee Dub. My fiancé and I took both our cars here due to various issues, such as blinking engine lights and strange noises. Things for which standard garages take your cars for days and only give back in exchange for big bucks. Not Darryl! He took care of us right away, explained the probable cause of the symptoms, told us to keep an eye on it, and sent us on our way. He even threw in a parking light bulb for my fiancé, for free. Hands down, best experience with a mechanic, ever (except for the guy who used to give me free oil changes). read more

Daryl was in my dream last night! He was reminding me that I told him that I owe him a dinner gift certificate because he saved me over $600!! Not by saving my money by switching to Geico...but because I took my VW Passat to Austin VeeDub. I had some kind of mechanical failure under my hood and Daryl remembered that there was a "dealer" recall on this particular problem a few years ago. Somehow, Charles Maund missed it while I was under warranty, and they would remedy it. Daryl even let me have my car towed from Austin VeeDub to Charles Maund. What?? You mean you didn't make a penny off this repair and were honest with me and saved me spending $600 at your shop??Charles Maund didn't charge a thing either. How crazy?? HONEST MECHANICS DO EXIST and Daryl is one (and shout out to Damian, service guy, at CM too). p.s. I sold my VW recently and I miss it so much. As soon as my new car falls outta warranty, I'm definitely buying another VW. read more

I used to love Austin VeeDub. Anytime I needed anything for my car, I always went to VeeDub. Naturally, when a tree fell on my car and I needed it repaired, I took it right on it. Upon receiving my vehicle back, I noticed that one of my tires was punctured with a rather large bolt. I just simply asked that they take care of it. After further inspection, THEY SCREWED MY CAR! They replaced my door handle with a beaten old one that obviously used to have woodgrain (my car doesn't have any woodgrain). They broke the collar to my oil dipstick. My windshield was not set correctly and you can't read my VIN. My right front door had to be replaced; the door doesn't fit correctly, the window it tinted much darker than the rest, and the inner panels were not put back in place fully. This is all just the tip of the ice berg. I feel as though I could go on forever. I feel very let down. I figured since they had seen me around all the time, they would make sure I was taken care of. However, that was far from the outcome. read more

Working with these guys is such a chore. They take way too much time to get the work done. They don't work well with insurance companies. A five day job took more than 20 days.
