Well, I have a lot to say about that place. I'm from Florida and my shift on by VW New Beetle Turbo S went loose and stuck on the 4th gear. I was 2 hours away from Austin and manage to make it to town. After my car got towed to some other place specialized on transmissions and making a few research over the net I found not so great reviews about that place where my car got towed. The garage end up giving me an estimate of over $750. After spending some time over the phone with the man that takes care of my car in Florida he told me that it sounded expensive for the issue that it was. He gave me some advice to see if the price was really fair or not, by calling different places and asking about their hourly rate. In Florida the rate is $60/h so I couldn't compare from the cost that it would be in Florida. I called a few other places, VW dealer as well, asking for hourly rate and estimate for the repair needed. When I called Austin VeeDub, what strike me the most at the first was the easiness and kindness when interacting. Then the comment about that they never had to do such a repair on a VW before and they've been in business for over 20 years. I was on the phone with Darryl, he was sooo helpful and already was looking into solutions to bring the cost down if that repair really needed to be done. I loved his attitude, the interaction over the phone, he made me comfortable about the quality of their services and the knowledge on VW Beetle that they have. After "fighting" with my insurance that refused to "re-towed" my car to another location if the place that my car was at could provide the repair, "I HAD TO" get the repair done where ever my car was....well thanks God and to Austin VeeDub with their towing service: I ended up NOT HAVING TO get the job done where ever my car was but where I chose where it should be done! :-) After dealing with my insurance company I contacted the place where my car was at to let them know that my car will be towed to another shop. They insisted on offering a "better" price to provide the repair and at that point it wasn't so much about the price for me anymore, it was the trust and confidence that I had with Austin VeeDub by the conversations over the phone with Darryl. My car got repaired for less than $200..... neither less to say how grateful I am to Darryl and his team! I got to spend sometime in the office and see the interaction with the employees towards each others, Darryl and the customers, to my sense it shows a lot and says a lot. I have a New beetle for 6 years now and lived in 2 different states and even if I have a great relation and I fully trust the garage that takes care of my car in Florida I wish Austin VeeDub was based in Florida...they make me want to bring my car for anything that would need to be done on it, "look" wise, that I don't do....they are affordable and honest, what else could I ask for...a smile?...Well they have that too!! Timing and balance belts on an '87 944 are no joke. With all of the labor involved (~10hrs), any vet would tell you to do a water pump as well as rockers/rollers while you're in there. Nick and the service department are wonderful and have been nothing shy of stellar throughout the whole process for me. This is not a primary vehicle. They didn't rush the job; they didn't waste time either. They found a few bad seals on the front end of that little motor. They could have gone about A) scalping me on additional work, B) leaving them bad and hoping for a repeat customer, or C) ordering parts and running up my bill without my knowledge - but they didn't. Nick over in service called me to talk about the project (about as complicated as belts and seals can get) in a well prepared and professional manner. He priced the seals (few dozen dollars) prior to our talk, was able to estimate labor hours, and relay that back to the orig estimate and give me updated totals. He already had the 25 year old parts sourced, located, and ready to ship! THIS IS NOT THE STANDARD FOR AUTO REPAIR. This has greatly improved my outlook on the "Old German Auto Repair" scene, as my little BMW 2002 was just about ruined by a shop in Houston over floor replacement and a few gaskets. That story would put a bad taste in your mouth, just think taking in a little old Bimmer for new floor pans and having the frame bent when you came back. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The guys have just done nothing shy of an impressive job. It was thorough, proper, and correct and I'll take that over quick, expensive, and done over any day. Corners could have been cut, but not with these guys. This is why they are #1 around here. I ordered 2 tail lights for my vw new beetle because my current ones holes for the pigtail socket was melted away. The ones I purchased and received had some broken pieces off of the holes seat for the socket to lock into. When I spoke to David with the recycled parts department he said they were in perfect condition. There site said grade A condition. On top of that on one of the tail lights they left the sockets in them and I thought well that was nice, free sockets until I realized why they left them in because you couldn't get them out without risking break the lip that the socket slides under. After carefully working it back and forth I finally got it, but did happen to break a little piece off. The other thing was that the metal clip/bracket that is attached to the back of the tail light for mounting it inside of the car so it doesn't move during operation was not there rather there was safety wire left over on there. In my eyes when I think grade A recycled part I imagine all pieces are attached and serving there purpose. The positives were quick response when I emailed them and quick delivery. So I hope I am able to get the light to mount without that bracket and hopefully the sockets stay seated and don't have a ability to move. read more

Wow! I am an out of state buyer of a car purchased at VeeDub and what an amazing experience it was. We received above and beyond service. First of all, we communicated with Randy through email and phone. Randy was extremely thorough and understanding. We knew exactly what we were getting before we even arrived. Speaking of arriving, we had delays with our plane and traffic, but we were still picked up at the airport an hour after VeeDub closed. They took the time to make sure all of our questions were answered and gave us pointers for the trip home. I would definately purchase a vehicle from VeeDub again, even though I am 5 states away. I just moved from Atlanta to Austin. Four days later my check engine light came on. I own a 2004 VW Jetta and made the nearly 1000 miles trip, so I was a bit concerned. I first took my car to Lambs per local recommendations and they quoted me with all these new parts at $2500, and warned me about passing emissions with the check engine light on. I checked the web for VW mechanics and found Austin Veedub. I took my car there and told them nothing about my previous visit to Lambs. They told me that my co2 needed cleaning and it would cost $170. They even tested it for emissions and provided me with the paper work to switch my tags. This is definitely a place with honest mechanics with exemplary customer service and I would recommend anyone with a VW to give these guys a visit. read more

I haven't had any repairs performed at AVD, but I do go out to the salvage yard quite often. I have 3 BMW's from 1973 up to 2003 and I maintain them myself. At least 2 or 3 times a month, I am at AVD looking through the yard for a connector, some fitting, a replacement part or some interior pieces. Glen at the Used Parts desk is always extremely helpful and the other guys are very willing to help you get the parts off that you need. Don't feel like getting dirty? Need to replace a side mirror that a truck knocked off? No problem! Just give them a call and they will pull the part for you and have it waiting. I live in Taylor and its quite a drive (even with 130) but i still make the trip. Thanks a lot AVD!!! read more

My daughter's Volvo was in bad need of some repairs. Nick and Ryan were aware that she works as a waitress and tightly budgeted. The first time we brought it in, they replaced her radiator and she was able to bring it home. When it still gave her trouble, they towed her car back to the shop, did some more repairs and worked with her on payment. These guys are great! Her car is now running better then ever, and they went above and beyond to help a customer out. I would recommend Austin Veedub to anyone, and big KUDOS to Nick and Ryan!! I have seen more Automotive places than most see in a lifetime. From Mom and Pop Parts places to Big Box Automotive Super Centers. Most are just interested in making the money, ripping the Customer whenever possible and adjusting pricing to meet the bottom line. This place is a haven for all your VW and Euro car needs. Fair pricing and service. While this may seem like a conflict of interest since I am NOW employed here, there was a time when I was just another Customer. Rarely is there a more experienced person than I, able to compare Automotive Parts and Repair places first hand across the board, to do a fair and impartial review. read more

It's never a good day when you car gets stuck in a small flood, threatening to kill your transportation. Yeah...that's what happened to my 1999 Beetle...so sad. However, Darryl and the people at Austin Veedub got it running, setting back not too much $$$, in fact hundreds of dollars less than I expected to spend. I was on a trip from FL to NM when I noticed a persistent leak coming from my transmission. The car then started slipping and left me stranded in Austin, TX. Thankfully I found Austin Veedub!! They not only saved my transmission, but also fixed my catalytic convertor and exhaust leak too! My VR6 runs like a new car now. I recently brought my car in to get a vent window replaced in the rear driver side door (the small triangular window). The dealer had quoted me over $450 just for labor. I got an estimate on the phone from Juan that he could do it for $150. When I got it back, it only cost $125 and they washed my car! Thanks, Juan! These guys were awesome. I got in an accident a little while ago and these guys took great care of my car. i had body and structural work to be done. They were really fast, super thourough and very fair. They kept in touch with me the whole time and let me know what they were doing every step of the way.
