I volunteer here once a week and I love it. This organization relies heavily on volunteers. The staff is helpful and seem to really care for the animals. They also host some fun events. I can't wait to go to the Puppy Bowl coming up next week!

Stopped in to drop off food, litter and other cat items with the recent passing of my own. Easy to do, just bring inside and drop off. I went in first to inquire and dis have to walk over to someone for verification. Upon leaving the staff said the renal food is great as there is a 19 yr old that can use it.

We stopped by in the hopes of taking a friend home but alas, it wasn't our day. However, there are so many deserving dogs and cats available for adoption. I wish I had a huge house to take them all in. The staff were extremely helpful and kind.

We came as a walk-in. We were greeted pretty quickly on a busy weekend. Parking - free; right outside the business; right off the freeway Service - friendly, quick, knowledgeable. We were able to quickly meet our new kitten in a private room. He was a bit stinky as he was literally just added into the shelter and was hiding in the litterbox. We were able to adopt him by filling out some paperwork and a fee, and we picked him up a few days later once they completed his shots. Everything was organized and easy. Communication was clear as well. We tried a different shelter, I won't name it, but the other one was a mess. I was surprised at the cleanliness and efficiency here. The employees also genuinely love these fur babies and it makes a difference throughout everything.

I had such a great experience with the Austin Humane Society adopting my first rescue pup! When my senior dog, Oreo passed away 6 months ago, I always knew my husband and I would adopt a rescue when the time was right. Prior to coming to AHS, I went online to see which puppies were available and luckily this puppy I had my eye on was still there when I came in person. Both him and the girl puppies were all so adorable and I couldn't make up my mind, so I got to spend a few minutes with each one, and the boy pup that I had my eye on from the start ending up being the one we adopted, so it worked out so well and I knew it was meant to be. The process from start to finish was fairly easy, and the staff were friendly and welcoming which made the process so easy for us. (Shout-out to Kat and another employee that helped us out) We also paid a small fee of $125 which is so worth the value (and more) since you get the following included: Current vaccinations spay /neuter surgery microchip and chip registration deworming heartworm test basic life skills training for dogs socialization a bag of goodies of dog food sample, snacks, vitamins, leash, vitamins, etc local pet store & service discounts We've had our pup for 2 weeks now, and our hearts are full! Adopting is the way to go :)

I brought in some of my dad's community cats he takes care of to get fixed since he had noticed some older male cats hanging out in his little colony of cats. Unfortunately upon bringing them one of them (the one my dad was the closest with and we wanted to keep) was put up for adoption and adopted out. We never gave them permission to have them adopted out and repeatedly told them we wanted the cats back. After going back and forth a few times we were told they would reach out to the family that adopted our cat and see if we could have her back but have yet to hear back. Understand our desperation, we want our cat back. If anyone knows where she is we just want her back. She was given the name Winter at the shelter. We were told a family adopted her but no other information was given. Attached is a picture of when she first showed up to our property. She was a feral kitten, and we were told they put her up for adoption because she was friendly and she was (only with my dad) but we would of loved to keep her and transition her inside but again were never given the option. We have tried posting everywhere and don't know what else to do, please if you happen to have this cat please contact that shelter to put us in contact we want her back! She was bonded with other cats and unfortunately her pair is not eating and goes days without coming. I know the family she is with must be nice but she had a life with us too. If anyone knows anything I've posted all over social media looking for her please contact the shelter or me.

One of the best spots in Austin to come and adopt a forever friend. They have plenty of parking in the front and in the back.

They murdered my rescue kitten. I really regret taking the kitten to the Austin Humane society. It has resulted in her death in a heartbreaking episode. I nursed her back to health from having 3 types of worms. I contacted Austin Humane society and they said bring her in, to see when she'd be ready for adoption. She'd only been healthy 3 days. They said she was ready to be adopted. I told them I was happy to foster at least another week. They told me she met the weight requirements for adoption and I needed to leave her. I found out they spayed her 2 days later, and failed to give her enough oxygen in the aftercare. She had brain damage and was blind. I offered to adopt her immediately. And changed all my plans in order to. The surgery was on Friday. On Monday they told told me she was having seizures. Tuesday, they euthanized her. I went to the vet in order to see her. The vet wouldn't speak to me as I wasn't the owner. I saw the kitten briefly and was told by the nurse to leave. I wanted to be with her when they euthanized her but the humane society didn't pick up the phone in order to give permission to do that. The nurse then called the police on me and I was escorted off the premises by the police. I regret ever stepping foot in Austin humane society. I dropped off a gorgeous tiny kitten, too young for spay and only just healthy. Go with Austin Pets Alive if you can. Don't trust these organizations. I'm trying to understand why Austin humane society are considered a no kill shelter. When their own statistics show they euthanize cats all the time. http://www.austinhumanesociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/2016%20Animal%20Statistics.pdf 78 cats are euthanized a year. 74 cats died or lost in shelter care. Only 17 cats enter Unhealthy & Untreatable. The rest are healthy or treatable. So they kill 135 cats her year through euthanasia because of their negligence or they just die. While saying they are a no kill shelter.

Staff is very kind and helpful! I adopted two sweet kittens from this shelter and received a lot of support and free goodies to help with their acclimation. I strongly recommend this shelter if you want to adopt! A lot more personable than some other shelters with a staff who clearly loves the animals they care for :)

I got my sweet boy Duke here (formally known as kinkos)... my best friend. I'm so happy I found my dog-soulmate. He came neutered, chipped, and up to date with his shots,as well as already gone through heart worm treatment (even though he wasn't showing any signs of heart worn! They did it just in case) he was trained so easy! And refuses to run away from me. He's by my side 24/7. He's my true best friend.

    My sweet baby kitty.

I adopted my baby kitty from Austin Humane Society in December 2022. I saw her and knew she was the one! She is so sweet and perfect. I am obsessed lol! The woman who was helping me was great, and let me know Autumn (previously Aspire) needed to be spayed. I picked her up the next day and we've been attached to each other since.

As the mother of a rescue dog who was going to be euthanized, I am 100% behind everything this thrift store stands for. In fact, every 6 months when I overhaul my closet, I donate A LOT of clothing, shoes, and accessories to the store in support of the cause. I also like to swing by as part of my North Loop jaunt (every few months, hit up North Loop stores and pubs---to include APA!) to make purchases. Found quite a few cute things here over the years not only for myself but friends and family. They've got an amazing selection of items and each time I pop in they seem to have loads more. Support this local shop in saving animal lives. Trust me, you will find something to buy!

My collection has dwindled over the years through breakage. So I was thrifting looking for pink depression glass. The Burnet Road location is large, well organized with two-stories of items. First stop Austin Pets Alive! - Burnet. I learned that all net sale proceeds go directly to support Austin Pets Alive!'s lifesaving programs for animals most at risk. Their clear mission is saving animals' lives, which is so heartwarming. The Burnet Road location plays a critical role in sustaining those efforts by serving as a critical funding source for the organization's work across Central Texas.

After going through the intense interview process we were assigned a matchmaker. I thought this process would be exciting but it was not. JL didn't have the best communication, not hearing from her 1+ months at a time and even getting us confused with other couples. She was usually abrasive and condescending over the phone. I felt like I had to keep reminding her that we've had goldens before. We tried to suggest dogs that popped up on the website or facebook page and were reprimanded for doing so. We said that a main requirement was making sure the new dog got along with our current one but that never seemed like a concern to them. JL would call us about a dog that just came in that they didn't know anything about and give us a couple to hours to decide and we'd have to go pick them up in 2 days from the Vet right after being spayed. I felt like they just wanted to throw something at the wall and see what sticks. She kept telling us to trust the process (over and over again) so we did with one of these last minute dogs and it did not work out. In fact she wound up having giardia and gave it to our older dog. Then we got gaslighted for saying it was a bad match and I once again had to remind her that we've had young goldens before. This is when I started asking around and it seemed like everyone I talked to that had a positive experience adopting from GRR had a different matchmaker than us. Before giving up i sent an email to the GRR President and VP pleading to try one more time with a different matchmaker and instead of responding they forwarded it to ours and she proceeded to chew me out over the phone like i was a child. I was never mean or ugly or anything in that email. if there was room i'd paste the email in here. As I'm writing this it's been 3 months since we've heard from JL. No check in or anything. In that 3 months we've found another golden rescue (based in dallas), got approved and already have had the new dog a couple months now. We've also met several other people that used to get their dogs from GRR that are working with this new rescue now. They were assigned JL as well and just gave up and left like we had to. Hopefully you'll have better luck than we did with GRR.
