We adopted our dear Willi from Austin Boxer Rescue. They made the whole process easy, fun & we ended up with the best dog ever! They were there with us every step of the transition process. Willi is well adjusted & a perfect addition to our home. We love our furry kids! Go to www.austinboxerrescue.com to see all the many dogs they have for adpotion.

I never give up on my foster dogs. "Failure" is not a word in my vocabulary when it comes to the dogs I save. Until now and I am proud to say I have officially joined the ABR Foster Failure Club! My 15 month long foster pup is officially adopted by me and I could not be happier! In the last month she went through 2 complicated expensive surgeries to remove a tumor that ABR paid for even though I had decided to adopt before the tumor grew at an alarming rate. Please consider becoming a foster parent ABR covers all expenses and will even provide dog food. Go to www.austinboxerrescue.com and fill out an application now! and thank me after you become one of my foster parent mentees :-)

Austin Boxer Rescue is a volunteer-fueled organization founded on the mission to save abandoned and abused boxers and to rehome them with their forever families. At any given time, we have between 40 and 80 dogs in our program, most which are fostered in private homes with foster families, and we are always looking for more foster families to help us save more of precious boxer babies! Adoption fees are reasonable: $300 for puppies, $250 for adults, and varying prices for senior dogs, and all of that money goes toward care for the dogs in the organization. Every volunteer is committed to saving as many dogs as possible while getting the right dog into the right home, so please visit our website and apply if you're interested. We can help find the right dog for you based on the specifics of your home situation (other dogs, cats, kids, energy level, etc)! I personally have one rescued "forever boxer" and at least one foster boxer at a time, and I can't express how much joy they bring to my home!

ABR does everything possible to save these sweet souls. They are non-profit and survive on foster homes taking in the pups until they find a furever home. I like how thorough they check each potential adopter to make sure they'll be a great match for the boxer. ABR has lots of fun fundraiser and adoption days every other weekend. Please consider rescuing and or fostering these amazing dogs!

Potentially cancerous tumors present but not communicated when I adopted her 78 hours prior

A summary of how you can have a better experience: 1. Take your new dog to the vet ASAP, don't rely on ABR vet's assessment. 2. Demand the all records prior to adoption. 3. Utilize the 72 hour window and run your dog through situations that would test behaviors, i.e leash training, interactions with new dogs 4. Ask more questions than I did I am not writing to bash Austin Boxer Rescue, but to hopefully enable better practices and adoptions. I had a negative experience and want to share the facts so that people have proper expectations with ABR and don't fall in love with an unhealthy dog like I did or lose out on $500, like I did. The folks are volunteers and are quick to remind you of that when you question their poor business practices. The biggest issue is a lack of accurate communication or healthcare prior to receiving the dog. G'ma or Gemma was the dog I adopted and was more than "just a tad on the dominance side" and was in fact aggressive with strange dogs. I live in an apartment and this is something we faced every time we went out to potty or walk, and would have been a key piece of information to share with the new owner. It bothered me this was never shared but I realized why when remembering what the foster mom told me the day I got her. She told me she has never walked her on the leash. Her exact words, "She will love it here, she never gets walks at my house." I thought that was odd, and she is also the head of the foster program at ABR. I was aware Gemma was heartworm positive, and shared with my vet the recommended treatment from ABR, "just put them on heartguard." My vet said this is something she would never recommend. That by doing that the heartworms would continue to eat away at her heart and lung tissue for 2 years, and with all the other rescue groups she works with, had not heard of this suggestion. She said the dog should not have been adopted out without treatment first. Gemma also had numerous tumors that ABR failed to share with me, and is currently not sharing on their website. I found this out 78 hours after adopting her. They either hid this information, or the vet they chose to send her to completely missed 6 or more potentially cancerous growths. I was told I could get my fee back through the end of this week, but was not offered it when I returned her. All I got was "So where are these tumors?" I was shocked at the lack of empathy for my situation or the precious dog's. Gemma is very sweet, and her uncommunicated anxiety and behaviorally issues could have been worked through but the healthcare should be a priority. I asked ABR if they didn't not give my fee back, to please use it towards her healthcare, which they chose not to do. Within 6 hours of returning her, they already had her posted for adoption as a "healthy" dog. I have the documentation (vet bill showing and paying for aspirating two of the tumors, text messages) and pictures to show my experience is not fabricated or exaggerated in anyway, which is so unfortunate and sad.

That raises serious ethical questions. Animal shelters exist to place pets into safe, permanent homes--not to supply inventory for resale. If money is being exchanged beyond standard adoption fees, the public deserves clarity on where funds are going and whether shelters are aware. Donations should support care, vetting, and rescue efforts--not personal profit. If this is a legitimate rescue operation, transparency, nonprofit status, and itemized use of funds should be clearly provided. Otherwise, this feels misleading to donors and unfair to families who adopt in good faith. I hope proper oversight is in place to protect the animals and the community.Donations solicited under the appearance of animal rescue while animals are sold at retail prices.
