I was weighed and my height was measured. I was led to another room where I was asked some person family history questions. And when that was done. I waited a brief moment when the doctor came in. The hours on their website say the lab opens at 7:30, this page says 8, I have shown up at 7:30 before to be told they don't open that early. I call to verify and when I push 8 to talk to someone in the lab it says "you have reached an unassigned account" and it hangs up on me. there is no way to get in touch with an operator - you have to select a specific department or nothing. So I have issues with the billing department but other than that, we love visiting this site as our pediatrician, Dr. Saenz, is always willing to help out whenever there is an emergency. His policy is if our children need to see him, even if the door is closed at 5pm, he will see us if we're there. We're lucky enough neither of my kids need to be seen for bigger issues. But the normal fever, cold, hand foot mouth, pink eye issues that happen so often cause our kids do go to school, Dr. Saenz has been great at getting us checked out and giving out doctor's notes and approvals. Also, he's super supportive of us being a bilingual family, telling my daughter more than once he wished his father taught him more Spanish and she should learn Mandarin because it's helpful. Oh and I cosleep with my kids and he's okay with that too. As long as the kids and mom are well rested ;)) Although there can be ways to not cosleep and Dr. Saenz can also share lots of tips, he doesn't push us to change. I made an appointment month in advance and told them I was insured by Medicare. the day before my appointment I received a call from the clinic. they left a message asking me to call. I called but had to leave a voicemail. never got a callback. The next morning (the day of my appointment) I called again and they told me my appointment was canceled because the doctor did not accept Medicare. Why did I have to call to find out? (I was fasting in preparation for blood work.) They knew I was a Medicare patient a month earlier whe. I made the appointment but waited for the last minute and for me to initiate a call. Most people do not enjoy going to a doctor's office, and I am certainly no exception. I avoid visiting like the plague...unless of course I have the plague. Well, I don't have the plague (that I know of), but I have been experiencing some sharp body pains that have not subsided in the last two weeks so I thought it best to seek out a physician. Since moving to Austin almost a year ago, I have yet to obtain a PCP. After conducting extensive Google and Yelp searches for a physician in my area, I came across Dr. Brenna Gerdelman's (M.D.) name several times with accompanied positive feedback (formerly with Westlake Family Practice). Happily, Dr. Gerdelman is now at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic Steiner Ranch which is pretty close to my home. The ADC Steiner Ranch is a new (open less than 6 months), large facility that offers general family practice as well as specialization in pediatrics. Half of the large building is dedicated to primary care services, and the other half pediatric. As an added advantage, they have an on-site lab for blood work and testing. This ADC location does not currently have imaging equipment on-site; however, they do have a room prepared and will get an x-ray machine soon. Soon to be "All the medical service you need in one place." I walked into ADC and was initially overwhelmed by all the powder blue walls - obviously an attempt to make the clinic more "calming" - which was actually effective. I was checked in at the front desk by a jovial gal named Sandy. After signing a few forms and paying my co-pay, I sat in one of the two lovely waiting areas to fill out the 99 pages of paperwork...no, actually more like 10 but still very "detailed." Then I was call into the office by Dr. Gerdelman's nurse, Erica. Height measurement (yay, I didn't shrink!) and weight (boo, I didn't shrink!). Erica then took me into an exam room and performed the regular intake ritual. Erica is super sweet, thorough, and knowledgeable. A short wait (of course) and Dr. Gerdelman entered. It was my first visit, so I was a little surprised there were no formal introductions; however, the Dr. had a fairly relaxed "bedside manner," was personable, and didn't make me feel super rushed (well, not as much as many other physicians anyway). Dr. Gerdelman came across as highly competent. So, I've only been a patient for a day, but all-in-all I would say the overall process (including the exam and diagnosis) were satisfactory. I believe I found a new PCP...next I have to get my annual physical. Oh the joy. :-/ Note: One small irritation is when you call the main number, there is no option to speak with the receptionist (i.e., they don't take any calls at the front desk - I had to contact her to retrieve my temporary password for my online account). We didn't like Dr Saenz for a pile of reasons but we went there because he was convenient. The last straw? My child was asked his favorite animal. "Elephant" he answered and my child was told to pet the cowboy boots of Dr Saenz. We were both appalled. Aside from the fact that petting a shoe/boot is disgusting, the reason for petting his boots (he proudly stated) was they were made from elephant skin. Elephant skin. He reasoned the elephant was dead. Well, no kidding. Their numbers are plummeting to critical levels in areas of the world because people poison them and spear them and gun them down to create trinkets made of ivory and leather boots and products. It is hard to believe they have any customers at all given their phone system. It is the worst of any business ever! To return a call, set an appointment, refill a prescription or anything, expect to be on hold for 15-20 minutes minimal before you hear the voice of a live receptionist. Then they will transfer you to to be put on hold again and again. Then they'll transfer you to the wrong person or to a voice mail box where you can leave a message but no one will call you back. We've kept going for the convenient location and doctors. This has been going on for many years without any improvement despite me letting the doctors know. I'm going to have to look for new doctors. So far as I'm typing, I've been on hold for 23 minutes. read more

Every time you moved in a nice family neighborhood with professional family practices, you say thank goodness praises. Dr. Gerdelman for general practice, and Dr. Urukaro for podiatry were reasonably pleasant. I mean if you maintain your fitness-health and do your check up once a year, you really don't need too many doctor visits. Living in the high tech where you can DIY and be diligent in researching home remedies, you learn a lot about preventive maintenance. Just recently, I experienced foot aching problem which I went to see Dr. Urukaro. I'm not sure why the service goes downhill. I mean ok I was not checking into a 5-star hotel, but the front desk won't greet you with a smile unless you flash them your credit card, insurance card and TDL, yes in THAT order. Then the obnoxious billable office visits that weren't necessary, for follow up. I will come to this in a min. Oh the billing dept??? What a turn off. I think I spent 25 minutes with front desk who pulls up my records, trying to make payments after each visit then got bills later stating that I owed some balance. Chased that issue down, and got directed to Accounting/Billing dept with serious customer service problems, and still put me in confusing circles. I called 3 times and failed. Including a phone disconnect, yes the billing dept girl either abruptly ended the call or we just had a bad connection. She never called back. I called back and got voicemail. So I used the ADC portal to send message. The reply missed the details I provided. Just absolutely waste of time. Wait ... I went to a medical clinic to get better, argh ... this is not the way to get better!! I thought with this stress added to my rest time, I probably need to see a doctor?? Ok I think medical and airline businesses are those industries where customer loyalty/customer service is not their priority. I laughed out loud reading the invoice coming out of podiatry visits. Yellow strapping ankle for stretching my foot is $59.72. Yes ladies this is placed in my care bear packet after the PF diagnosis. I have pilates and yoga stretch band at home that's much more effective and less expensive. but hey it's another item to bill your patient. Pile on. It's not like there was a list of services that we could see in advance or to be discussed by your RN or Dr. We just signed a bunch of waiver forms and questionnaires to get some background of your medical issue. The front desk staff was a hit or miss. I remember stood in line for 20 minutes in front of an elderly with a cane, who was fussed with her payments. For goodness sake, she was shaking. Where is the office manager, as I stepped out of my queue. I thought, oh I'm fortunate I had signed up for my ADC portal and updated my info, billing, insurance etc. Then my turn. Same treatment. No casual smile unless credit card for that open balance, insurance, form of ID are ready ... I thought how did such practice get away with this, in Steiner Ranch? So I read their pamphlet (long wait line) and website. "Our Vision: We strive to be the premier multi-specialty clinic providing compassionate care and excellent service." I avoid them as much as I can. I don't mind driving further away for an annual check up and routine visits. Too bad ... Dr. Ana and Dr. Brenna were pleasant to talk to on non medical topics, even if that means you pay for the office visits to have casual convos. Maybe we will cross paths on local yoga class or happy hour at SRS. Sigh... Well I took my medical business elsewhere and got a clean bill of health, outstanding results. Doctors, RNs, front desk staff, ... all of them played their roles as promised, everyone did their job, Didn't even have to involve billing dept. Zero stress added during the process of completing my annual check up. Not a penny more, no time wasted on disputing overcharges. Advised the rest of my family members to avoid ADC completely. This is not directed at ADC, as I go to other doctors at this organization who are competent. This review is directed specifically at Dr. Brenna Gerdelman. I went in for a general checkup about 2 months ago (going off memory) complaining of chronic lower back pain, lower stomach pain, and fatigue. Dr. Gerdelman had some lab work ran and they showed normal, apparently. She is pleasant enough, but the reason for the 1 star review is that she missed something huge. She attributed my lower back pain to my RA and brushed off the lower stomach pain, that I should go buy over the counter gas relief medicine. As far as the fatigue - she said to do a sleep study. For me to complain about pain means that I need help...but I trusted this medical professional. I went to the ER this past weekend in excruciating pain. It turned out to be 2 huge kidney stones that - as the ER doc and urologist said - had been there awhile, along with infection. I had to have kidney stone surgery, and I am furious that I was brushed off by Dr. Gerdelman a long time before this. As a point of reference - the ER nurse later admitted to me he thought by how stoic I acted when I came in, that maybe I just had gas based on the symptoms I described. He was shocked it was much more. I understand that many patients may think things are worse than they are - but if a patient tells you they are in pain - believe them. Run away, do not go to Dr. Gerdelman. read more

I was recently referred to Dr Osgood for a rheumatology work up by my PCP at Steiner Ranch Primary Care. I read up on Dr Osgood, was encouraged by his background and reviews and called to make my appointment. For the first time in my life, I was told that I could not be seen because I would be paying out of pocket. I am a well-educated, successful, self-employed professional. I have been paying my medical expenses out of pocket for over a decade because I can. I have worked very hard to earn a life that includes opened doors. I enjoy giving back to my community and passing on good values to my kids. I have never been turned down for a service at ANY establishment, medical or otherwise. It is truly an awful feeling and it is personal. It *almost* makes me laugh to remember being escorted past the public line at the White House, yet now I'm hard up to find a doctor at this clinic to find me worthy of their services. I assume that by denying out-of-pocket patients, they are attempting to isolate their services to a certain demographic; or, more specifically, to keep another demographic out. There are other excellent rheumatologists in the Austin area. I strongly recommend patronizing one that better serves our community at large. read more

Best advice I have is to stay away. It's tempting to get lured in by the convenience but you get what you pay for! Dr. Gerdelman is awful! Nice enough until she finds out you have the audacity to question anything. She apparently doesn't consider Hashimoto's thyroiditis a real disease and thinks it's acceptable that my hair is falling out, want to sleep 12-14 hrs a day and still exhausted. She basically told me she wouldn't refill my thyroid medication bc my levels weren't outside of normal range. sooo....having positive antibodies is now normal?? Needless to say I went to another physician and they immediately said my medication needed to be increased. Michelle the nurse is just as bad. She called me with my mammogram results which were abnormal and said "well if you want to go with the radiologist advice to get another study that's up to you" I asked if she even knew my history???...my mom recently was diagnosed with breast cancer which I told her about at my appointment. She responded "oh I guess you'd want to get that done then" they're not worth the time or the money. And FYI...they will only refer to other ADC physicians. read more

My husband and I have gone to Gerdelman for years. I have no complaints about her and I have no complaints about the front desk. However, their billing practices are a problem. At my husband's most recent visit they tried to pass off the "provider responsibility fee" onto us. My insurance company caught this and told us this was illegal. When I called to inquire, the fee was suddenly dropped. When I asked what happened, there was a nice long pause before she came up with a story of us being billed for 2 visits... one of the "visits" being the exact dollar amount of the "provider responsibility fee." It's a shame their billing is so shady because we liked the convenience of the location. read more

My review is specifically about ADC's billing practices. As someone who has worked in a billing office for several years, I can tell you that their billing for lab services on site is FRAUDULENT! If you only go to the lab and never get seen by a physician that same day, they will submit your claim to the insurance company as an office visit. What this means is you will have to pay a copayment every time you set foot in their lab! I've spoken to their billing dept manager regarding this and all she could say was that because the lab is located in the same building at the doctor offices, they can bill that way. My previous primary care doctor provided lab services on site and I never had to pay a copayment for labwork. If you are the type of patient who requires a lot of lab work, I advise you to stay away from this clinic. read more

The Austin Diagnostic Clinic is a solid family practice. My family's been here 6 times in 3 months for sinus infections yadda yadda and they're great! Every time my wife and I call, they're super flexible and get us in that day. They're also on time and well, we're busy, so that matters. I really like their staff and Drs too. I've seen dr george and like his demeanor. He's easy to talk to, takes the time to explain things, and is a great doctor. My wife's taken the kids to dr Willis and my wife really likes her too. read more

Do not go here and do not see Christopher Saenz. Incompetent at best. Never wants you to see a specialist or go anywhere else because he has no idea what he is doing and does not want you to know that. My son had serve ear infections that we did not know about. Was seen by Dr. Saenz after another course of antibiotics and told everything was good. We went to a specialist the next day, who Dr. Saenz said was not needed, and infection still there and very bad. In surgery the next day, it was that bad. Office continues to bill for this incompetent doctor, practice manager will not return phone calls, billing depart is centralized and does not care and cannot help. Dr. Vander Straten is the best dermatologist I have seen in my life. Her wealth of knowledge, calm demeanor, and understanding helped me greatly. She really is the smartest and most compassionate dermatologist in Austin. She treats all kinds of skin and hair conditions like acne, warts, etc. I highly recommend her ! read more

Just stay away from this place. Average medical staff who avoid any basic diagnostic tests and tools. Use of cheap express medical tests and avoiding the laboratory. So eager to offer the most expensive diagnostic procedures they could bill as the hospital stay. Any diagnostic procedure get the high chance to get billed as the treatment and the bill will be way too high from the quote. Questable management Horrible scheduling, outdated computerized system Billing department which is not accurate You will be better off to go to the private practice. Dr. Brenna Gerdelman is the most incompetent and unprofessional doctor I have ever dealt with. Aside from long wait times, she spent no more than 15 minutes on an annual exam and I was a first time patient. She never thought to ask for my past records . Now to get an RX, which I need and was the purpose of my appointment, she insists I come back for a billable appointment. Absolutely is unavailable to consult on the phone. That is a warning, not to start as a PCP relationship. The Austin Diagnostic Clinic has been of no help to solve this situation. Lots of people there with titles. Most won't return calls. Waiting now 3 days for the Clinical manager to at least return calls. read more

I am sorry to see some negative reviews about Dr. Gerdelman. My experiences with her have always been positive, and she is our family doctor. I find her to be very personable, thoughtful in her diagnoses, and thorough. I'm of the opinion that unless the doctor being reviewed has done something which falls under the "malpractice" umbrella, or was outright rude or discourteous, then people should temper their reviews. ADC Steiner Ranch is a great, new location that offers multiple specialties - from Family Practice, Dermatology, Neurology, ENT, Allergy, Podiatry, Rheumatology, Pediatrics, and now, OB/GYN. I've seen the Podiatrist (Dr. Urukalo) and FP (Dr. Gerdelman); both Dr's exceeded my expectations and resolved my issues on the first visit. Their nurse and MA's were also very professional. Parking is great and you don't have to walk a far distance to the one level building. The wait time after check in has also been very quick. It's also very possible to schedule an appointment the same day. It's a clean facility with great service, and I would definitely recommend ADC to all of my friends and family. read more

I have been seeing both Family Practice Doctors since they opened and have been very satisfied. I have also seen Podiatry and Dermatology. The service is quick and I can usually get an appointment the same or next day. Dr. Urukalo (Podiatry) goes out of her way to help her patients too. Several times she has fit me into her busy schedule because of my foot pain. Also, they have a friendly, knowledgeable front desk staff who are always helpful and create an inviting atmosphere. We are relatively new to Steiner. Sick kid and too far to our old doctor, so called ADC to see if someone could see her. While the process of becoming a new ADC patient is honestly somewhat time-consuming, I was very pleased with the experience once we walked into the facility. Dr. Christopher Saenz was wonderful, he has impressive credentials and is able to see new patients and spend time with them since he is fairly new to Steiner ADC. I also love that he has 17 years varied experience as a pediatrician and lives with his family in Steiner. He took the time to really listen to and diagnose my daughter. We will definitely be selecting Dr. Saenz as our primary care pediatrician. read more

I scheduled a hearing test for my daugher who needed it complete before the 2 week point, at 12 days old. I repeated the purpose of my visit, when scheduling, I also repeated it to the RN (Michelle) who called me to get info from the birth. I mentioned it again at the front desk (basically every time they called it a well visit, I corrected them that we were here for the hearing test, but I agreed that we can complete the well check up at the same time, We get through the doctors check just fine. Then Michelle the registered nurse comes in, to do the blood test. I know that only 3 of the 5 blood dots are required, the other 2 are optional for state testing, and I did not want to do the other 2 for the newborn screening, but Michelle took them anyways. I asked about the hearing test, and they inform me they don't even do that at this location. I was so frustrated, because that is the only reason I scheduled this appointment, but instead they milked my insurance for a well child visit, and stole 2 blood samples from me. To make matters worse, when my daughter threw up on me, Michelle (the rn) wouldn't even hand me a paper towel. Oh and the place they refer to, can't even schedule the appointment till after monday ( after the 2 week deadline). read more

Absolutely disappointed with ADC! I recently received my invoice for a Dr visit 6 weeks ago and was surprised with a "New Patient office visit" charge. I have never seen this with any doctor's office I have ever visited, and believe it is completely wrong. While I agree that I signed the paper work that stated I was obligated to pay any fees not covered by insurance, it is despicable that a business would hide a "new patient" fee. I do not recall seeing anything in their disclosure/consent/forms advising of a cost to be a new patient. I do believe it is another way for providers to play the system and drive insurance rates up further. When I called to speak with an assistant to explain the charges, I was told "What do you want me to tell you? It is a new patient fee. Is there anything else I can help you with?" Great family practice and pediatrics doctors! I've been in a few times to see Dr. Gerdleman, my husband has seen Dr.George and my children have seen Dr. Willis. All three of the doctors are outstanding in my opinion. They actually listen to you and help you figure out how to treat whatever it is you are dealing with. I can call and get an appointment the same day which is amazing! They also don't keep you waiting. Once you are shown into a room the doctor comes in within a few minutes. It's so nice to go to a doctor who respects your time and tries to help you feel better. read more
