I think they tried to kill me...Why the hell did it take three months to get me to a surgeon? My experience with Cardio Texas started out well. I originally went to the Cardiologist because my doctor found that I had high blood pressure in August of 2023. The Cardiologist Dr. Otero put me on blood pressure pills. I took the pills for a few months and stopped. In March 2024 I ended up in the hospital with extreme dizziness and got physically sick when I moved. I went through a plethora of tests and the emergency room doctor said I had possibly had a small heart attack and/or Stroke, the hospital said I had to see a heart surgeon immediately and set an appointment. When I spoke with Dr Otero he said to cancel the appointment with the surgeon and that he needed to do more tests to verify my condition before I see a surgeon. Then I was run through every singe one of the same tests that were performed when I was in the hospital costing me for out of pocket expense again. Then an angiogram was scheduled for the first week of June 2024. The results were not good, Bicuspid valve that needed to be replaced, a 70% blockage that required a double bypass and a aortic aneurysm which could burst at any moment, (same thing killed my grandfather). I was told that a surgeon would call me the next week to schedule an appointment. Well, the next week came and went and no call...then the second week went by and no call. So, I called Dr Otero's office and left a message with his assistant Andrenika Ellison that I had not heard from the surgeon. I never heard back from Cardio Texas, and this was three weeks after my diagnosis. I waited until the next week, called again, no answer, left a message and never heard back. I had other family members who also used Cardio Texas but other Doctors in the practice call to try to get a response, and STILL NO CALL BACK! Remember, I have an aneurysm that could rupture an any moment and I would die on the spot. This went on for THREE months, I called every week, without an answer or a returned call. Finally at the end of August a surgeon's office called. I scheduled an appointment and the first thing the surgeon said to me was " I'm very concerned that you were diagnosed with this condition and your cardiologist took three months to get you to a surgeon?" Then he said, my diagnosed blockage was not 70%, it was 85% blockage and I didn't need a double bypass, I needed a triple bypass and could I be ready tomorrow for surgery? Then the surgeon said, I could be almost recovered by that point if they would have sent you back in June. BEWARE OF THIS PRACTICE, THEY ARE JUST LOOKING TO GET THAT COMMISSION FROM BIG PHARMA. Then, when I went to Cardiac recovery CARE with a physical therapist to help with my physical recovery. I was supposed to go to for several weeks but I ran into an issue the first day with my heart rate shooting up to 130 bpm. The therapist made me stop and instantly called to speak with Dr Otero and didn't get a answer. I was told to go home because we could not do any more exercises until he spoke with the Dr. Well, needless to say after making several calls and leaving messages the therapist never heard back from Dr. Otero or his office staff and would not see me without their call back. I'm going to have to say this is pretty sad for the type of doctors that are in this office...you know...HEART DOCTORS...or are they Grim Reapers! read more

Dr. Chafizadeh represents just about everything a patient could ask of a physician: He's warm and communicative, radiating positivity but always realistic, and works with a near-superhuman intensity. I became his patient during an ER visit that turned into a two-week hospital stay, and have returned to the Cardio Texas practice for followup visits going on three years now. In the hospital he was a real presence with whom I had regular contact, not just the behind-the-scenes doctor who shows up after much suspense to dryly dispense bits of test results and prognosis. He personally supervised some of my in-hospital testing, something I don't think I've ever experienced in my years of helping my parents navigate their hospital stays. I would frequently hear his voice down the hall and the nurses would joke about his intensity, always with fondness and respect. On visits as a patient at Cardio Texas, I again hear his voice echoing up and down the halls as I wait for my turn in my exam room. The man never seems to slow down. His NP assistant Beth and nurse Lori have been faultless from the beginning. I've never had any significant problems with scheduling or any other aspect of my experience as a patient. I believe Dr. Chafizadeh is one of the principal doctor/partners in the Cardio Texas practice. From what I've experienced, I would presume excellence from any of the doctors associated with Cardio Texas. i have been kept on hold now for 52+ minutes. the doctors are good, but this kind of electronic arrogance is indefensible.

So far our experience has been 5 Star. My husband and i engaged in a series of tests-- good when one arrives at a certain age. We asked to do them together-- so we could save time and trips. We found Cardio Texas to be not only efficient, but also patient friendly to a laudable degree. The tests were as they are often-- annoying and time consuming, but the personnel made it easier with upbeat (but not saccharine) interactions. Everyone was respectful. They let us see the doctor together-- which was great. Our doc was Otero and Ladies: Let me warn you that it's not your normal geeky awkward doc experience at all. Meeting wtih Otero is suddenly finding yourself in one of those tela-novelas. You are prostrate with some ailment or other and then your doctor arrives, and it turns out he's Antonio Banderas--or an Antonio Banderas-like Spaniard replete with deep gravely voice,Spanish accent and that certain energy or je ne sais quoi. Nah not your normal geeky doctor experience. Truly, we both enjoyed talking with Dr. Otero who was very informative, answered our many questions (my pet theories too) patiently and with good humor. As much as we dread going to doctors we actually enjoyed our Cardio Texas visits. So we do recommend Otero et al if you need heart help. It turns out that healthy hearts will keep us away from el buen Doctor for six months until follow up tests. The only question we had was that we were instructed to check back in 6 months for certain follow up tests, but were told to make a doc appt. first. It would seem more efficient to get the tests and then meet with the doc-- to save an unnecessary visit. Cardio TX Policy issue? Other than that one question, we're impressed. read more

Formerly a part of the Texas Cardiovascular Consultants, this group broke off a few years ago and set up shop down the hall from their former location in the St. David Plaza building. In 2004 after a severe anxiety attack I went to my GP and sent me directly to the ER at St. David with an abnormal EKG. I handed my EKG to the triage nurse and before I could set down in the waiting room I was in a bed with leads and wires protruding from my body. Dr. F. Javier Otero of Texas Cardiovascular Consultants (now Cardio Texas) was called in and to make a long story short I was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy with CHF with a 12% EF. After (14) days in the IMC, a stint, an ICD, (3) caths, Last Rites from the staff priest and a warning of an imminent heart transplant I am convinced this man saved my life. He put me on an elaborate drug therapy and closely monitored my status. After (8) years i now have a 55% EF, never required the transplant and I live a normal life. I love the staff, particularly one of the techs, Andranika. All of the staff remember your face and name and inquire after family members that previously accompanied you. A visit does not go by that one of the techs asks how my parents are. I can highly recommend this group of physicians and support staff. read more

A bureaucratic nightmare. . In the past 12 months I've had three sets of diagnostic procedures conducted by, or ordered through, Cardio Texas. Each one has entailed hundreds of dollars in exasperating billing errors. One of the procedures was cancelled altogether, but I received a bill for it anyway (through St. David's); it took me six months to get that bill corrected and erased. Another set of procedures -- imaging tests ordered through Austin Radiology Association -- which I knew were supposed to be covered by my insurance at 100%, nevertheless generated a (mistaken) $300 bill to me. . So, when I was most recently prescribed imaging tests through Cardio Texas' suite-mate operation, the Cardiovascular Imaging Center, I made a very concerted effort to clarify the insurance coverage beforehand. That ended up taking FOURTEEN phone calls (to members of Cardio Texas' office, to my BC/BS representatives, and to personnel at the imaging facility) before finally receiving word from the facility that, yes, these diagnostic procedures are also covered 100% by my insurance. But, then I still received a bill for that for over $500. After five more phone calls -- to my insurance and St David's billing -- the latter have now agreed to "adjust" that bill to a zero balance. . I still owe money for the interpretations of those tests, as conducted by Cardio Texas. I don't dispute those charges, but I wasn't previously informed they would be part of the deal. But even as I've tried to pay that bill this morning -- neither of the two "pay by phone" numbers printed on the bill ("St David's Heart and Vascular") are functional; the "pay online" option requires a passcode which isn't provided on the bill; and when I call Cardio Texas to try to speak to their payment personnel, I'm getting a recording stating that that phone extension is not in service. . This is a quality of life issue. Our country's healthcare financing system is a sad travesty. And when anyone, not to mention someone who's sick and in pain, has to go through so very much just to clarify the billing, and then to have to correct the billing errors, and then to be unable to even reach anybody to complete a payment, it becomes abusive. read more

I was referred to Dr. Terreson by my physician Celina Mankey MD. I arrived and was immediately greeted by the front desk and asked for my insurance information. Very quickly we were being called back by Jennifer who was great. An EKG was done and Dr. Terreson entered and went over my history in detail and made excellent recommendations for my care. Perhaps I should mention that I was a somewhat incognito patient as I, too, am a physician and very picky about the knowledge, experience and bedside manner of my physicians. He and all were great and highly recommended. read more

I recently had a second experience with chest pains. The first happened to me in late November, the night before I was to fly home from the Middle East after having lived there for over four years. Upon completion of an X-ray, blood tests and an EKG, all of which were negative, I was told I would not be released until I had passed a treadmill test. My gut told me I had not had a heart attack, so I refused the test and left the next morning to fly back home as planned. Fast-forward to August. Under a huge amount of stress in preparing both my yard in the Texas heat and my house to be placed on MLS, I began having chest pains similar to those I experienced upon my departure from Kuwait. So, I took myself to an urgent care clinic, and, within a few minutes, I received carbon copy results as those I'd had during my first episode. This time, however, I did follow through with my treadmill test, and I sought the help of Texas Cardio for their support. First, I was escorted to his office exactly on time. His assistant was very clear with her instructions and kind. Then, Dr Terreson came in, and all I can say was that he was the first doctor I had seen since my return to the US whom I felt did not treat me as a "time slot," but, rather, as a human being. He was kind, respectful and warm while, at the same time, being very professional, knowledgable and informative about both my situation and how I did/did not fall into certain genetic tendencies based on both my medical and family backgrounds. I left his office feeling better simply because I had been treated, not as a number, but, rather as a fellow human being. Obviously, I highly recommend Dr, Terrison as both a wonderful cardiologist and a kind and good human being. read more

I called my insurance provider prior to calling to ensure this office accepted my insurance to avoid any surprises. After providing my insurance company with the office location and the doctor's name, my insurance provider verified that this office is an in-network provider. So, I went on and called this office and scheduled an appointment. After providing my insurance information, they claimed they don't accept my insurance. I told them that my provider verified practices at this address does take my insurance. The registration department asked that I call my insurance provider with their TAX ID number, as well as their NPI billing number, which I did. After providing the TAX ID number to my insurance provider as well as my insurance information, and verifying the name of the business as well as the doctor's name, they verified once again that this provider is indeed in-network. With the information I just gathered, I called registration again, which they continued to assure me they do not accept my insurance -- all without budging to call my provider to verify eligibility. It's funny how my insurance company is telling me this office is in network and will gladly pay claims to this provider, but this lady is so sure this office doesn't accept my insurance that she didn't even need to call to verify eligibility! She assured me she had "worked there for 5 years" and assured me that office has "never accepted my insurance". As if things never change and new providers never come around. I gave her my information and asked her to call my insurance provider to verify eligibility, which I shouldn't even have to ask for them to do, which she agreed to do. She promised to call me back, and I have yet to hear back. "I will call them right away," she said. "As soon as I get off the phone with them, I will call you back," she followed with. It's 4 hours later, and of course the offices are closed for the day, and I've yet to receive a call back. It's a real shame. I'm going to have to give a different practicing office my money and business because the administrative staff is can't be bothered to carry out their duties and what they're paid to do and verify insurance eligibility -- because they're so absolutely sure without calling and verifying that they do not bill to a certain provider. read more

My experience with Cardio Texas was absolutely terrible! I arrived on time only to be questioned about my appointment with Dr. Terreson. The receptionist eventually found my information and checked me in. After waiting for 50 minutes the receptionist still couldn't tell me when I would be seen. I shared with her I could no longer wait without an approximate time, I asked to reschedule. Without any apology or sense of empathy, she directed me over to the other clerk. I had to ask for a refund and was told to just go online to reschedule. This office is another example of how doctor's offices don't care about their patients time or customer service.I will not be going back. read more

I have been seeing Dr. David Terreson for more than a decade, and he is an outstanding physician. His Physician's Assistant., Darby, who has been with the practice for years, is excellent as well. They always carefully review my labs and records, discuss any concerns I have, and I completely agree with the other reviewer's comment about feeling acknowledged as a human being, which is not always the case in a doctor's office. If you want an excellent physician, you can feel completely comfortable in choosing Dr. Terreson. read more

Dr. Lewitton was good and seem to genuinely care about my health but his office staff at the Plaza St. Davids were incompetent. The first appointment was great, printed the new patient paperwork from online, filled it out prior to my arrival and was in within 30 min. Second Appointment for the holster, went good as well - His Nurse Inga was awesome. Third appointment was at the same hospital for the Echo - They forgot to do an electronic order so my 8am appointment turned out to be a 10 am appointment waiting for the Doctor to write the order, send it to the hospital and get me in between other patients. Forth appointment to come back for the results of the Holster and Echo, Well that one did not go so well. The office staff said I needed to fill out New Patient Paperwork, because my insurance changed... then she said oh its because your a new patient - Really ??? Unfortunately I didn't have the time to redo the 1.5 hrs of paperwork again, so they refused to see me. Dr Lewitton did send my Echo test via the patient portal but not the Holster test. I find his actions lacking with concern about my health and with that I have chosen to find another more Professional Doctor. My Heath is more important than the ignorance of his staff. read more

My mother is Dr. Hashim Khan's patient and I have accompanied her to all of her doctor's visits for the last 7 years. Of all of the doctors I have encountered with her, no matter what the specialty, Dr. Khan is in an outstanding league of his own. He spends a long time with us during our appointments, we never feel rushed, and he is extremely thorough. He was able to diagnose a condition that my mother has been suffering from for the last year immediately. This is after 3 other cardiologists in town were unable to determine what was wrong. My mother ended up requiring a procedure that Dr. Khan performed. It's not easy to deal with a sick 80 year old lady, and Dr. Khan was patient, understanding, and compassionate through the whole process. His bedside manner is commendable and comforting and should be an example to all physicians. He never hesitated to keep myself, my father, and other family members updated and patiently explained everything to us on so many occasions - having to repeat himself to every family member who wanted an update along the way. Dr. Khan is the best cardiologist I have met and I am forever grateful to him. read more
