This company is basically one guy, Mayo. His bid was half what the other company asked, and he was more able to work with kind of old fashioned wooden screen porch that we have. The other company said that if any trim they had to remove in replacing screens broke, they would not replace it, and that we'd have to recaulk and paint the trim once they nailed it back on. We bought a house with only a few broken screens in place and needed to replace all the screens and have screens made and a screen door installed in our porch to make a "catio." This guy is a one man show, and he is awesome! I can't remember his name, and he didn't give us a business card, but if you need custom screens (or any kind of screens for that matter) this is the place you want to go. We had both of our small patios screened in due to the fact that we live in a condo on the third floor, and we were afraid our cats were going to fall to their deaths. I don't even remember how I came upon this place, I may have just started looking through the yellow pages and got lucky. That was Spring of 2008. He did a fantastic job, it was speedy and very reasonably priced. We chose the higher-end solar screen material due to our west-facing patio and the fact that we knew at least one of the cats would try to climb on them. Which they did. For the last three years. And JUST NOW the screen material started coming apart at the seams, only on two out of the six screen panels. I found our estimate sheet from the install and called him. He came over the next day (today) and quickly fixed the screens, AND DID NOT CHARGE US A DIME. We tried to pay him and he would not let us. He had mentioned on the phone that he charges $60 for a service call, which we would have gladly paid. But since the screen material itself was not torn or ripped (unbelievable I know), he simply used his little tool to re-attach the screen material to the frame. Sure, we probably could have done it ourselves, but I have heard that those tools (sorry, can't remember what they're called) are harder to use than they might appear. And I truly did not know that he could just put it back together that easily. Took him about 5 minutes. I noticed he has a website, and I just looked at it. Based on the website I never would have picked this guy because the site is not professional looking at all and there is very little information on it. So please don't be put off by that if you look at it. read more

Mayo did a beautiful job with our screened in porch project. He uses excellent materials. You seriously cannot even tell the room is screened from the inside view. About a year ago I replaced my horrible single pane windows in the back of my house with dual pane low e windows but I didn't put solar screens. After I had an energy audit done the company running it remarked that I could see significant improvement adding solar screens even WITH very efficient windows. I am really happy that I followed through and got the screens added. I did 90% screens upstairs and 60% downstairs and couldn't be happier. I've already noticed a serious temperature drop in the downstairs area (see pics). Downstairs you seriously cannot even tell there are screens and upstairs it mostly justs makes a super bright day look a bit overcast, perfect! Mayo did a great job and was really flexible with scheduling. I plan to replace my remaining windows this fall/next spring and I will definitely be bringing Austin Custom Screens back to put new solar screens on those windows as well! read more

Professional in every way, the prices were completely reasonable, and the service was just great! I hired Austin Custom Screens to do some big 6'x6' screens on my newly built screened in porch. They gave a competitive quote and they were worth every penny. They came and measured the openings, gave recommendations on frame size and screen type, and then built the screens (some in odd shapes) to fit exactly. Installation took no time at all for them and I couldn't be happier. When there was a minor issue with one screen, they came back and fixed it without charging me. Great company and I would highly recommend hiring them versus building screens yourself. read more

Mayo does very good work. His custom screens are equal in quality to a local competitor who is much higher priced. He met all of the criteria required by my condo HOA, the install was professional, and at my request he added extra metal tabs to offset the wind shear I get on that part of my unit at no extra charge. The custom screen door is also excellent - a big improvement over the Home Depot generic screen door and worth the extra $ in both stability/quality and looks. I took them an old aluminum-framed screen to match from my house that was built in the 1960's. They matched it -- PERFECTLY -- and even supplied the special clips that hold it in place.
