Was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly. We sat outside near the river but came inside once it got dark as the bugs were bad. They went out of their way to try to satisfy my Gluten free wife. One of my grand kids is very picky and he loved his dinner. I had liver and onions and it was excellent and a full meal for $10. Whole family left full and satisfied. We'll be back! read more

Great place for family dining. We go there at least3 times a month. New owners a few years ago really helped the place. I can't wait for the oscoda voice competition again. read more

Three of us, two adults and a teen, ate here on Monday night. It was a pleasant experience. We were able to sit on the patio and enjoy the river. We were quickly seated, and our waiter took our order quickly. Adults ordered wine. The list was not extensive but contained some good choices at very reasonable prices. Our waiter (I believe his name was Aaron) was excellent. He was attentive and friendly but not overbearing. We all ordered fried fish dishes. The food was good but not great. The perch was a bit more greasy than I like. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and would certainly go back. read more

Not a bad choice by local standards. Nice beer selection. Menu choices offer a wide selection. Food is non spectacular, but consistently of a good quality. Service staff is mostly young, but they do seem to do a good job....in a town where the choices are limited, this one is worth stopping at. read more

Never had any problems with the service here. Staff always seems friendly and attentive. The overall taste of the food is never an issue either. Yummy! HOWEVER, the portions and prices are awful. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries, got an ice cream scoop of pork on a roll about as wide as a coffee cup. Helping of fries didn't make up for it. It was about the size of a kid's menu fry at McDonald's. All this, for $9? I learned my lesson. Sadly, I had to stop at a gas station afterwards to get a snack to fill me up. And I have a small appetite! read more

We tried the AYCE fish yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. We have not heard much good about this place for several years but decided to give it a try for lunch. The wattress said although it was early they good do the AYCE Fried Pollack for lunch. Our order was out really fast and was better than expected. The fish was hot and served with just the right amount of batter. The fries were real potatoes and very good. Served with coleslaw it was a decent $10.99 meal. I ordered a second order of fish just because it was all you can eat, although I didn't really need it. Waitress was excellent, management stopped by table to check with us if everything was satisfactory. Overall a good experience. We will be back. read more

We ate here two nights in a row this past weekend and would recommend based on our experience. We sat at the bar, and the bartender Frank was friendly, energetic and entertaining. The lake perch was prepared well and "melted in your mouth." The "Taste of Michigan" salad with cherry vinaigrette also was tasty. There were at least two local beers on tap both nights. We'll definitely come back when we're in the area. read more

We just ate there and the food was just almost OK. The service was OK but slow and the owner walked around like he was lost and unhappy, that's why its not an upbeat place to go. I think they need to take some courses on customer service because that is the biggest part of there business. The patties for the burgers were premade, my kids had the (small) cup of soup and half a grilled cheese for $6.95, when the server brought it to the table all three said the same thing "is that it!". When it was all said and done for lunch it was $73.00 of marginal food. read more

This was our fourth visit since the new owners took over. I had the Cod special and it came with seasoned fries, and coleslaw. I have to be honest, did NOT like the slaw. Fish was a great tasting with a light crunchy batter. Wife had the brisket plate with mashed potatoes, and side salad. Brisket was seasoned nice with a light smoke taste and a sweet BBQ sauce. Son had the Cheese Burger with bacon, and it came with fries. He ate every bite and was so full he did not have room for desert. Over all food and service was very good. read more

I am in town frequently for work, and I always make it a point to swing by the AuSable for dinner. Their Staff quickly makes you feel welcome and accommodated. I generally just order whatever is on special, and it is never short of absolutely delicious. They have a perfect assortment of beer on tap, including many Michigan Micro Brews, as well as a full bar. Everything is reasonably priced. There is always good company at the bar --you can't go wrong. With a beautiful deck and view of the river, this is must visit dining establishment. read more

AuSable in is about the only place with smoked food. There smoked meatloaf is money! Good nachos with home made chips. Burgers are perfect. Beer is cold. read more

We have eaten here many times, each time hoping to find a treasure. Unfortunately we consistently find their food to be just okay. Not bad, but nothing better than the average cook's kitchen. We stopped going, but the sign saying new management gave us hope. My husband had their roast turkey special...nothing had any flavor..not the turkey, gravy, or stuffing, the fresh green beans were not cooked. Now we like them to have a little crunch..but these were so raw, I am not sure they were cooked at all. I had the chicken salad, and was very surprised it was a warm salad. It was okay, Just nothing special. I did really like the clam chowder. The service was good, decor was nice, their food just average. read more

Excited to give the new owners a chance after reading the reviews. Let's start with the positives, staff super nice, fried pickles great, and steak was good ( not my meal) Now for the not so good, pan fried perch was soggy as well as the fries, and coleslaw warm. Left without eating a meal..Unfortunately can not recommend read more

New owners with a revamped more upscale menu. The inside looks pretty much the same with the paddles on the wall but there is a fresh coat of paint and new carpeting throughout. Very nice and simple menu that ranged from specialty sandwiches all the way to a Filet Mignon.. My sister and I have been waiting for them to open since they started remodeling about a month ago. We decided to go in for a drink and an appetizer. They are in the process of getting a liquor license and should have it in about a week from what Frank the owner told us. We shared a Queso Dip appetizer and my sister had a cup of the crab bisque soup. May I say that everything we ate was wonderful. The wait staff is young and a little green but everyone was friendly, helpful and just had a great vibe about them. The owner Frank came to the table a few times to chit chat and talk about the restaurant and other things they have going on. So friendly and personable Frank made us feel right at home. It's very refreshing to see that kind of service that you usually only get in the privately owned restaurants. Will we be back, YES because I want to try the Filet and a few other items. They are also featuring a Breakfast buffet on Sundays for now. The first time was on Mothers Day and Frank said the line was out the door and was much busier than expected which caused them to start running out of things. Now that's what I call a successful open. I'm happy and proud of what these guys are doing in Oscoda and I look forward to having more great experiences here especially when they get a liquor license and have bands on the weekend again. read more

Horrible service. I waited an hour and a half for fajitas and ended up not getting them. The manager just watched us walk out and didn't say anything. Careless staff careless manager and I will never go back. read more

Wait staff is great. Very disappointed in the menu & dinner. The old owners had a great menu & & food was great! My cod dinner special was a big disappointment. 3 pieces of cod maybe a total of 3 oz. breading was greasy. Fries were good, not impressed with the coleslaw. Needles to say I'm still hungry after paying &12,50 for dinner. Won't be going back. read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner on our color tour. He had the brisket and loved it. Very hearty piece of brisket and he liked the garlic buttered green beans. I had the chicken fettuccini (which was delish) and ordered a glass of wine from the wine list to go with it. Their wine list paired wines to go with their entree selections which I found very informative. We noticed on their sign out front that Friday's are their fish fry including Cod and Fresh Perch. We'll have to come back to try that too! read more

I have eaten there two times since it reopened under the the new owners and I am impressed. I would definitely recommend the blackened grouper entree and the she crab soup which I was told is a specialty of the new chef, James Jones. The service was great and the owners stopped at our table more than once to be sure everything was okay. read more

I have been in twice for lunch since new owners took over. First time had the club style sandwich, second time for the chicken croissant sandwich. Neither will bring me back for a 3rd. Fries were undercooked both times. First visit was with my mom who sent her meal back for raw fish in the fish sandwich. Second visit was with my son who was served burnt chicken strips, like the meat was so overdone it was crunchy, and my chicken salad sandwich was warm and had cheese on it (maybe my mistake if I didn't read this on the menu, but GROSS) I had high hopes... too bad. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in for a bite to eat, lured in by the great smells of their smoker out front. We ate their BBQ sampler for a great price of only $19.99, well worth the ribs, briquet, pulled pork and meatloaf! We enjoyed a few cocktails overlooking the beautiful veiw of the river. Overall we enjoyed our stay, they have very friendly staff, an awesome veiw, and reasonable prices, which is hard to find in the small town of Oscoda. We were also informed about the canoe marathon, which we unfortunatley missed but we will most definatley be back. read more

I was expecting a good and satisfying dinner, but I was very disappointed. The fish I ate and couldn't finish, was under-done and "Fishy." Yuk. It was suppose to come with lemon sauce but it was invisible. "What Sauce ?" The Green Beans were hard & under-done. I asked the waitress to take it back and tell the so-called Chef, to re-cook it. The Baked potato was okay and the Salad was okay. I was a little worried, that I was going to get Sick from the Fish. The skin was soggy too. It looked Gross. Yuk ! The owner should hire a Cook who knows what he's doing. Before somebody "Does" get Sick. I'm never going back there again. Live & Learn ! There are other Restaurants around. read more

Don't even waste your time. Under new management that clearly doesn't know how to run the place let alone treat its staff. Even when it's slow the manger is rarely around. Wouldn't wanna waste the stop. Previous owner was better then what they have now. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My husband and I are vacationing in Oscoda. We came in the restaurant Friday night around 9:05pm a waitress walks by and says someone will be with us in a minute. Moments later another woman approaches and says "sorry folks, Kitchen closes at 9pm" and continues walking. I saw no sign that said this. We decided to try the restaurant on Saturday before 9pm. It was not very busy. Our waitress took forever to approach our table, drink order came right away, we asked for a few moments to decide what we wanted to order. Apparently to our waitress that meant 20 min. Put in food order, food comes an hour later. My husband ordered the ribeye steak, she brings him out a NY strip. Waitress says sorry for the mistake and takes it back. 10 min later returns and says they are all out of Ribeye steak and returns with the same plate she originally offered my husband. Waitress never checked on drink refills. The service was horrible and there were little nats everywhere. I will never go back again. My food was over salted. I would never recommend this hell hole to anyone. read more
