Met a friend there for dinner. Best burger I've had up here. 1/3 lb was more like 2/3 lb, I couldnt eat the whole thing. Drink prices were great and the drinks were strong. I will definitely eat here more often. Place was busy by 6 pm. read more

Came twice in two days. Loved the fish and chips! Also had the Michigan cherry salad with grilled chicken, which was excellent. Service was great. Ambiance, nice. My only beef: I'm a dessert girl, and they offered no dessert. Not even ice cream! I had to run off and get it elsewhere. Despite that disappointment, next time I'm in town, I'll be back. I could go on and on about the experience my family and I had here. Instead, I will keep it short and sweet. The food was amazing and delicious. Even the pickiest among us was more than satisfied. Highly recommend this bar & grill. Service was outstanding and food was delicious and hot. We ordered the blue cheese burger and a BLT. Burger was filled with blue cheese and the BLT was loaded with bacon. French fries were crispy on the outside and creamy inside. BLT normally served on rye but requested ciabatta--sandwich actually came on a bread similar to a fry bread, but worked well with the sandwich. Delicious burger and fries. Ambience is just what you'd expect from a restaurant called Hilltop Bar in this area. Not crazy about the stuffed animals on the wall, but it's to be expected. We decided to go out to eat with another couple. The line was outside--Labor Day weekend. When we walked in to put our name, it was a few minute wait until the hostess arrived. The restaurant was packed Every worker was running. The hostess placed all the patrons that were waiting and had another table for us. We sat and the waitress who was busy came to our table cheery and smiling. She took our order of drinks and we placed our food order at the same table me Everything came out in a very short time, Kristen, not sure if the spelling is correct, our waitress, was so pleasant and frequently checked on us. I was amazed how the team of waitresses worked together. The crew in the kitchen got our orders cooked the exact way we ordered. I thought being as busy as they were something would have been wrong. But no it was GREAT. The restaurant was clean, service was amazing and the price was very reasonable. We recommend this place to anyone living in the area or traveling in this area. read more

This was a hidden little gem. It appears to be a corner little bar, but the food is absolutely excellent. Service was great. Everyone is so friendly. We enjoyed it so much that we came back again. I got to Oscoda a day ahead of my son and I was hungry for fish . Thursday afternoon so I went to the Hilltop. Dollar cans of beer and a cod basket I sent him pictures of my food . When he showed up on Friday we went fishing and he asked if we could go to the Hilltop for the fish basket I had the day . Not only did we eat fish but we had pretzels and crab rangoons . His alternate selection came after the rest of our meals. We waited quite a while for drink refills too... three requests worth of time. (See the above for the understaffed) When the meals arrived (in batches but piping hot), one sandwich order was incorrect and the chips on the side so salty they were inedible. We were close to the kitchen and could hear a female bellow for the wait staff. I guess when the orders were ready? The OK - the smoked chicken wings and turkey wing had good flavor, but were a bit dry without the sauce. The Dirty Rueben was 3/5. The beer was good and a good price. We had a small chat with our waitress after to express our feeling that she did her best with what she had. Overall a very disappointing experience. I shouldn't leave feeling bad for my friends that I picked the spot for dinner and worse for the overworked waitstaff.

Good food, good service, friendly atmosphere. This isn't just good bar food - this is good food *period*. They had some growing pains with the new management about a year in, but have since fixed the issues and amped up the menu. To me, this is the best food in Oscoda (again) *period*. The only subtle criticism would be that I would like to see more fresh ingredients and options, but again, they have added some since the menu revision. If you make it here, be sure to try the southwest egg rolls - the chili sauce is just delightful. read more

Our server was doing a fairly good job given how busy she was but there was a sense of rushing and hurry. We got one of our orders incorrect and also found hair in it. When we informed the server she said she will remove the item from the bill and hurried away without taking order for the replacement. We were not charged for the returned item but was charged for the replacement so I feel there was nothing really done to try to compensate for their mistake. Food was okay, portion size on the small- medium side, rates are pretty reasonable. The live music and the singer was great which bagged an additional star in the review.

Meat is not smoked to perfection, but it is very good and not crazy expensive. it is lovely to sit outside on the patio and watch the East Tawas busy-ness. Also we can bring our dog(s) (if sitting outside). We often detour for a stop at Jacks's (and Ben Franklin), even if we are just driving through Tawas on our way elsewhere. Service can be slow and indifferent at times, but generally competent and friendly. If you are sitting on on the patio, wiating is not a problem. I could sit there all day. Super pleasant, even in cold weather.
