First off, let me say, TOP NOTCH. The service was nothing short of fantastic. I had an issue that arose, and we communicated what was going on over the phone, and they said bring it in. They took care of it as smoothly as anyone could ever hope for. They went out of their way to accommodate my timeline, and got me going very quickly. They've updated with pictures of progress, had lots of communications throughout the process, and make this difficult time as easy as possible. I couldn't ask for more. Also, check them out on the web. Pepe is very knowledgeable, makes some great content detailing some of the shortcomings in transmission design and his fixes for them. Spent a lot of money on something that doesn't last. ***If you are getting a transmission rebuild from Aus-Tex, be sure to inquire about the longevity of your "new" transmission*** AusTex transmissions did a transmission rebuild on my 2011 GMC in 2019 and I purchased extended warranty. Seem to run great, staff was nice, then in 2020 I had to bring my car back for transmission repair because it was resisting and jerking. Here I am now in 2022 and my transmission is having the same issue- and overheating. I've been a customer of Pepe's for the last 10 years, I've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars with this company with multiple different vehicles and so it pains me to write such a dismal review after my latest and final experience with Aus-Tex Transmission. I took my vehicle to Aus-Tex on April 6th, 2021. In spite of being a repeat and very loyal customer, I got the worst service I believe I have ever received from a mechanic.... or maybe any business for that matter. My truck is my second vehicle, so I called Pepe and asked when a good time to bring it in was, so that it wouldn't just sit there waiting on a tech and I was told to go ahead and bring it in. So I had it towed in that day and they received it the same day. Generally speaking they always keep me up to date, but over the years they have grown too big/busy, and the contact with customers has stopped....actually all customer service has stopped. If I didn't reach out to them, I would never have known what was happening with my truck. When I called on June 10th (like two months later), they said it was ready except they couldn't fix something with the fuel gauge because they had "no tech availability".... 2 months, and no techs avail?? To give u an idea, the truck went in because rodents had chewed through some wires..... this should've been a couple of day job. When I got there the bill was $1000. They had replaced my alternator (which should've been under warranty, but they didn't bother to communicate with me about it) and they had spliced some wires together. On top of that, while it was there it either was damaged by the shop or left in the hail.....neither of which was communicated to me. When I got in the truck, the battery indicator was on...... they told me that was the fuel gauge they couldn't fix. Now my fuel gauge has been inaccurate for years, but the battery indicator light has NEVER been on. So obviously wiring was done incorrectly. They said they couldn't fix it.....so I left. Halfway home on my 15mile drive, the check engine light came on, the ABS light came on and the stereo system completely shut off. Needless to say they didn't come close to fixing the truck. 2 months and $1000 later and the truck is not even close to fixed. I would've been better off just splicing myself, because what they did do looks like a child did it, and to say it isn't fixed is an understatement. At one point I was told they are moving away from general mechanic work and only want to do transmissions...... if this is the case, why did they take my truck in the first place? So when I let them know, I then get a call from Pepe (owner).... through this whole ordeal, Pepe had never bothered to update me himself, apologize for the length of time it was taking, etc. Pepe didn't call me to discuss the truck or a solution to fix it.....he called and text multiple times because he said "I am going to need to fire someone over this, so you need to call me". Sorry Pepe, but your employees, and how you handle this is not my problem, and you should've been calling to figure out how to come get my truck and fix it right! Since June 10th, I haven't heard another word from them. I disputed the credit card charge and will be looking for a new mechanic. So I wasted 2+ months and still don't have a truck that I can use. I pride myself on being a loyal and repeat customer, so it pains me to leave this review but my hope is that I can spare others the costly and frustrating heartache caused to me. My recommendation: take your business elsewhere! They scaled up and forgot that customers is what drives their business. Maybe one day they will figure it out again, but I will not be there to find out. read more

I'd think twice before spending my money on a "performance" transmission from here. I found this place on the Internet and from the reviews and pictures, I figured they knew what they were doing. A little over a year after purchasing a roughly 8k dollar Stage 2" 68rfe for my Cummins Ram, it lost 3rd gear...on my drive to work...on a mild 75 horsepower tune. The original, factory transmission lasted 175k miles at this level. I called the office and gave the receptionist my details and was told that basically I'm s**t out of luck because I'm out of warranty by a couple of months and 8,000 miles. She took down the codes the computer threw and told me she'd call back when a technician was in. I never got that call. I was also told that I could pay for a "refresh service" on this transmission but no ballpark for what that would cost. I'm almost 100% sure this failure was caused by a small spring, seal or snap ring...So to summarize my experience with Aus-Tex Transmission: Expensive, poor quality and they don't stand behind their work. I'm finished with this place and won't give them another dime of my hard earned money. read more

The Short Review: Very friendly and extremely competent. The Long Version: I typically wait a few weeks after any sort of repair just to see if the issue of the day was fixed long term. In the case of this shop, I had just purchased an F-250 that I knew needed a little work. I brought the truck in for some repairs and an EGR replacement. Pepe's team did a great job. It was an expensive repair but the truck has run like a top ever since. Here is what I really like about this shop though ... Up-selling a repair is part of the business model for every auto-repair shop. These guys are no exception. If they see something else on your car or truck that needs a little work ... they recommend the work. BUT They are respectful and very polite about the recommendations! They explain the problem and possible consequences but they'll also tell you if the repair will really have any real impact on the performance of your vehicle. I really like this approach - these guys wont tell you your engine is going to blow up if you dont have them clean the soot from your EGR ports. They give you options and help you make an informed decision. The other thing I like about this shop is a little more basic ... they send you text messages with pictures of the work in progress. In general - they communicate very well during the process and after - when it's time to schedule a maintenance visit . All in all, I cant think of a better auto-repair/customer-service experience ... so ... 5 STARS read more

These folks were good to me, and I was sort of a "problem customer": I had a TON of questions, was super stressed, and called back and forth multiple times, and then had a holdup with my insurance company that delayed repair and decision-making. I know they have limited space and had to hold my vehicle there for a week before they could move forward with repairs, which I felt bad about and seemed to cause them some trouble. But they took care of it/me and everything went very smoothly after I finally got my insurance adjuster over there to meet with them and cut them a check. I had to get the transmission rebuilt on my VW Rabbit (golf). First of all, some other shops in town won't do VWs, or are more expensive. Thankfully (!!!!) my insurance covered this repair, but I had called around to several other places and Aus-Tex gave the most reasonable estimate AND the best warranty on the work I could find. That's why I picked them. I waited a couple of months to write this review so I could drive my car in all conditions/speeds and see how things went. Happy to say that it has been great. Smooth all around. You would never know it had been rebuilt. Maybe even better than it was before. They also don't advertise this anywhere on the site but I swear they did some kind of mini-detail on my car. It was returned to me cleaner than it started out, at least, inside and out, including wheels. It was super filthy when I took it in. The only issue I can think of is that right on their homepage one of the rotating images advertising free towing with transmission repair; but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I asked. They probably just need to update the website or maybe I'm missing something. In any case they DID come and tow my car to the shop right on schedule, no problems, and again, insurance took care of it all, so who cares, I have no complaints. Another thing that definitely sets this shop apart is that they send frequent photo updates to show how the work is progressing on your vehicle. You always know exactly what is happening and when. Who does that?!? Pretty cool. I also appreciated getting the estimates and billing in writing, and especially the warranty in writing (w/o having to ask). Pepe came and said hi as I was leaving and told me about following up with care/maintenance in the next few years. read more

This company is a joke. I just called them to find out what it would cost for the replacement of a head gasket in a 2012 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 liter Cummins. I was told I had to come in because they cannot give me a quote over the phone, but that I needed to come in and get a diagnostic and spend $250, but if I choose to do the work with them, the $250 would be applied to the bill. I told her all I needed was a quote on the head gasket replacement... she said "well we do a bumper to bumper inspection" - O told her I never asked for a bumper to bumper inspection. I do 99% of my own wrenching, so I know what is wrong with the truck... the head gasket is a big job I don't have time for right now. So basically they want to force you into spending $250 with them no matter what.... wouldn't be bad if I had a rough idea of what my quote would be, but if they quote me $2000 more than other shops, then it's really not worth my time or money to waste $250. This is an awesome shop and they are definitely experts when it comes to transmission diagnostics and repairs! I recently had transmission failure on my 2003 BMW 330ci. Pepe did a full diagnostics and concluded the transmission to be sound and not the problem. The issue points to an electrical failure that sets the error code and enters the car into LIMP mode. I am impressed with the level of diagnostics and the honesty of this shop. I would strongly recommend them for any transmission concerns. I'm honestly not sure how there are negative reviews about this shop. I'm a business owner myself and this is by FAR the best experience I've had at a mechanic shop, or any shop for that matter. I sent Pepe a message on Facebook and told him my 2017 F250 needed a transmission rebuild and he responded immediately with build options and pricing. I had my truck towed there the following week and got it back about a week later. I was sent updates and progress pics along the way and never had to wonder if anything was getting done. I showed up to get my truck and paid (the amount that was quoted originally) and I was so excited to get my truck back that I didn't realize the young man inside gave me incorrect change, but he did. I was hesitant about trusting this company. I've never heard of this company, Aus-Tex Transmissions was a referral from my regular mechanics. They do not work on transmissions. Wow! What a great recommendation! I will refer this place to any one! They were professional and kept me up to date with the progress of my car. It turned out it was going to take longer than anticipated... not surprising. I was expecting it. They offered to drop me off at work. They also advised me that if they were unable to pick me up after my car was ready, they would send a Lyft ride for me. Sure enough, they were not able to pick me up, but they sent a Lyft ride and texted me the driver's info. My car was fixed (sensor needed to be replace). They even did a cursory wash of my dirty vehicle. I really had a great experience with Aus-Tex Transmissions. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Honestly I cannot say enough about the team at Aus-Tex Transmission. Pepe and the crew are top notch. I have an older 3/4 ton Yukon that they have rebuilt the transmission and now installed a new cooling system on the truck. They knew that I was about to travel across the country in this vehicle and worked way past normal hours to ensure that it would be ready to go. I do not plan to go anywhere else for service and highly recommend them. Before the transmission was rebuilt, they let me tour the facility and sent pics to show the progress of how things were going while they worked on the truck. They rebuilt the auto tranny in my 2005 Dodge 5.9 dually, along with replacing the oil pan gasket and rear main seal on the engine. Now drives great and no more leaks. I was having a transmission issue with my 2004 Chevy Colorado Pick-up - I had gotten two referrals (one from another shop - Rose Automotive up close to my house in Wells Branch) and from a friend at work. I found the staff very easy to work with and communicated very well. I am on the computer and phone all day so I appreciated that they were very electronic in sending email quotes and text messages with pictures. They kept me well informed during the repair process and send me pictures after the transmission was removed, then cleaned and then ready for installation back into my truck. They gave me several options on the repair and warranty. This is a total second vehicle for me and use it as a truck - going to Home Depot and moving stuff so I wanted to keep my expense low but get good work done at the same time. When I discussed my dissatisfaction with the service I was bribed with a "free" oil change for a Yelp review (here you go) and an additional 2 weeks to pay the additional amount requested. I'll just pay the full amount charged, note that customer service is dead here, and let everyone I know that there were about 4 other transmission service places on the way to this one. This place has the best customer service I have ever experienced. Being a busy mom of 3 it can be difficult to make time to service my suburban but these guys make it super easy and convenient. I am a huge fan of Aus-Tex. Pepe and Teresa have compiled a solid team and this is the only shop I trust my vehicles to. Each time I visit, Aus-Tex allows me to explain in detail exactly what the problem is, they then did do a diagnosis and report back to me in detail what they have found and we go over all my options.
