I rarely write reviews, but this experience was truly unacceptable. I had for my daughter an appointment that they scheduled, yet when we arrived, we were told there was a scheduling issue. This was their mistake not ours but we were the ones who faced the inconvenience. We had to take time off work and school for an appointment that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. What made things worse was the staff's reaction. Instead of handling the situation professionally, multiple front desk employees decided to involve themselves in the conversation, laughing, smirking, and making inappropriate comments. It was completely unprofessional and honestly shocking to witness that kind of behavior in a healthcare setting. In any healthcare office, respect and empathy should be the top priorities not mocking patients or brushing off their concerns. I'm genuinely appalled by how we were treated and disappointed that a dental office would allow this kind of behavior from its staff. Proceed with extreme caution. The receptionists and dentists have all been very friendly here, but setting up treatment plans and negotiating the costs has been hectic beyond reason. Due to having porous teeth (extremely prone to cavity formation, with a lot of existing tooth decay), I was of course prepared for expenses, however my initial quotes were upwards of $25k for extractions, grafts, basic dentures. The ideal procedure (complete extractions, implants, upper and lower snap-in dentures) priced at over $40k, even for being in-network and my insurance being decent. Of course, I don't just have $40k sitting around (who does)? I worked out another treatment plan with my dentist, which was still divided into two parts (an extraction, two root canals and two crowns) to be done first, as well as getting screened and fitted for a dental flipper, with a second appointment in a month's time to extract a remaining problem tooth. Upon further consideration, especially in regard to the porous nature of my dental enamel and the fact that these treatments (still pricey) were only likely to last 3 years at best, I then tried to negotiate simply having the 4 teeth in the worst condition extracted, and a few fillings on my remaining teeth as needed/determined by the dentist. Here is where the trouble began. Extractions and bone grafts don't bring in as much money as root canals and crowns (obviously), and shifting my treatment plan became a hectic matter in which my dentist didn't seem to understand my request to simply perform extractions/grafts instead of the earlier plan. I was also told that only two extractions could be performed on the original date, but she could not do the filling at the same time, but I could have the additional extraction performed at a later date. Two appointments, of course, runs up two separate charges for dental anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide, neither of which are cheap. Additionally, although my original dentist worked out these plans along with the office manager, apparently additional dentists (an endodontist, as well as an oral surgeon) were also needed - none of the necessary work was able to be performed without them (which left me wondering ... was my dentist indeed a full dentist, or still studying dentistry, or what - I have never experienced this before at any prior office of dental medicine, I've always seen 1 doctor of dental surgery, and only on one occasion, to remove embedded wisdom teeth, an additional dental surgeon who worked in the same office, not a traveling DDS). It's the latter portion of all this that I've found highly questionable, even shady, and therefore would advise any and all other prospective patients to proceed with extreme caution. I believe this practice, while very kind and accommodating at intake, will endeavor to bill you to excess and add additional hurdles to necessary dental care. I don't believe it to be ethical, but rather highly questionable. In addition to the above, I received claims paperwork from my insurance, and they've informed me as to what I 'owe' my dentist (however, at each point where I was billed, I was billed at a higher amount than what my insurance notated in their paperwork). Entered as a new patient trying to establish care and routine cleaning; was upsold on cleaning services instead. The whole patient experience from initial appointment was weird. Intake, X-rays, staff all seemed standard for a new patient appointment. But, Aurora Modern Dentistry pushed a non-standard cleaning service (conveniently not covered by my insurance) that somehow kept ending up in my appointment details even after declining it. By the end of my first cleaning appointment I'd met with a staff member to discuss the details of this service and declined it, then declined it a second time when checking into my cleaning appointment. Then, declined it AGAIN during the appointment itself (they tried to just start the service after my standard cleaning???). Why did I need to decline an extra cleaning service THREE separate times? I'm not unfamiliar with dental practices, especially chains, pushing unneeded services onto patients, so I was hoping this practice would be different based on the good reviews. I've been a regular with dental cleanings every 6 months for my entire adult life and did not come into my new patient appointment with any dental concerns. I was not confident with my dentist's explanation of the extra cleaning service when I asked her about it, so declined it at the time due to finances. If it's a valid gum disease concern, I figured let's look at it again in my next appointment in 6 months given I had no sensitivities or pain. Too bad I won't be back. If they tried to push just a $200 cleaning service onto me, I worry about what Aurora Modern Dentistry is pushing onto people who haven't been to the dentist as regularly. Whilst on a road trip across the USA, I needed an emergency tooth extraction due to a cracked tooth and terrible toothache. They saw me as a walk in patient, and about an hour and a half later I was tooth and pain free. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Absolutely horrible experience. This dental office is in my insurance network and all but one of the treatments were covered per my dental insurance. The front office NEVER called my provider to check on eligibility or how much to collect for co-pay's. They collected $1147.00 from me when I was in the treatment chair suffering from excruciating pain. I shouldn't have paid more than $147.00, I verified all this with Humana, it was less than 5 min call. I knew it was wrong the day of, but could hardly talk with the amount of pain I was in and just needed to be treated. I sat in that treatment chair for over two hours, so its not like they didn't have the time to contact Humana. I called today, 48 hours after my treatment to ask why and Cesar told me that "95% of the time these treatments are not covered by insurance so they collect up front and will reimburse when they get an answer from my insurance" I asked how long that would take and he couldn't tell me. So now I'm out $1000.00 and no answer as to when that will come back. Never in my 35 years have I had this happen, I've cancelled my upcoming appointment and scheduled with another office, I even asked the new dentist office if I need to pay upfront in full for services or if my insurance and coverage will be verified, She explained its standard practice to verify benefits with the patients provider prior to treatment and collecting payment. Now I'm stuck in a financial hole with no end in sight all because someone didn't do their job. At first I thought this was my dream dental facility. They were so nice and cared about my horrid dental anxiety. Were able to do an emergency root canal and crown same day for me. Then a week ago I needed my three fully impacted wisdom teeth removed. After the surgery, they said they'd call me to follow up. They never did. Instead I called them and went in still in excruciating pain three days later. They told me I need another week to recovery and would be in pain at least that long. I asked for more pain medication as they only gave me enough for a few days. That's when I got the run around. Oh the surgeon has to order it - we will call him and he will call you. Here we are 72 hours later and no one has called me. I am still in horrific pain and can't eat or sleep. But no one has called me. I am starting to think I have an infection. Again - no one has called me back. I am extremely disappointed that what seemed to be my dream dental facility simply just wanted my money and to kick me out the back door in a wheelchair as soon as the surgery was over. I always feel so pressured to make such big choices here. I had a cavity, it was not painful, in fact, it looked quite minor on the x-rays, yet I was told to get a entire root canal. I was not given any other options other than getting an implant for my minor cavity. I'm disappointed and felt used for my money. Watch out for the price gauging and irrelevant extras. I felt incredibly uncomfortable when I wanted a regular cleaning that's covered by insurance but the finance guy with glasses kept saying a regular cleaning wasn't going to do anything and literally pressured me into paying $80. I really wanted to walk out because I was SO very very uncomfortable. I was about to have a panic attack in front of him since he kept pushing me to spend money when all I wanted was the insurance covered cleaning. I've never felt so pressured to do something I literally didn't want to do and at a dentist office of all places. The WORST experience, I truly felt violated because the male finance employee completed disregarded what the patient wanted. I have been a patient here since 2016, but am uncomfortable with the current business practices. My insurance covers cleanings at 100% but I've been told I owe money for cleanings multiple times and would have likely paid had I not recently read up on my policy. Today I was asked to sign a "Consent to Treatment Form" although the receptionist told me not everything in it applies to me. I let her know I authorize treatment and cost for a cleanings but did not wish to sign a blanket authorization that doesn't apply to me. o I thought I loved this place but then I realized I have had 3 crowns done and problems with all three. One onlay failed and had to be replaced with a crown One crown failed and had to be extracted. (No refund) Newest crown has open margins and they left cement no matter how many times I went back and complained. New dentist removed cement and explained the patch job this dentist had done. Not only that, but my last visit I waited an hour to be told they didn't have time to see me. This review is specifically about Dr. Tommy Yun, the resident periodontist at Aurora Modern Dentistry. Oh boy, where do I begin? I was referred here by Green Valley Ranch Modern Smiles (GVRMS - I'll deal with them in a separate review one of these days). During my consultation, Dr. Yun convinced me that if I didn't have a gum graft immediately, the gum beneath the tooth in question would split open like a "zipper". Over a year and three failed surgeries later, I am still suffering discomfort in that area and the hygienists at GVRMS still suggest that I "go see a periodontist". (Perhaps they should keep updated records across branches?) Dr. Yun saw me for the surgeries, but he only bothered to see me once during my many follow-up appointments. This was when the final surgery took place - just days before a trip overseas. Dr. Yun didn't even ask if the timing would work for me. He just swooped in and did it. Afterwards, I was on steroids and in pain the whole trip, even through a job interview. The area in my mouth was full of sutures for so many months that I couldn't floss or clean the surrounding area properly, causing problems with the tooth beside it. I tried to get a refund on the surgery and the office manager was rude and indignant (GVRMS ended up taking responsibility for it). Ironically, a second opinion told me that I probably didn't even need the surgery at this stage. I felt I was scared into it in the first place. Over all, I truly regret ever seeing this periodontist. read more

I had another root canal by a different dentist, 2 days before the shelter in place was ordered. I was not given a temporary crown, but the other dentist said I did. My tooth broke twice and the other dentist kept messing up my emergency appointments so I started calling other places. Not only did Aurora dental get me in within hours they found ANOTHER cavity, that my previous dentist missed and I was in need of another root canal. Bcuz of Covid 19, my insurance was difficult to get a hold of but the manager got me approved on care credit and set up a payment plan. I don't know what I would've done if I had to go one more day in so much pain. They took the time to take of my issues and my anxiety, even being crazy busy. Thank you! read more

I tried to give them a second chance after my husband complained about their sales tactics but then they told me the exact same thing they told him as well as another patient two doors down. I can't have regular cleanings and if I choose to have the periodontal cleanings I still pay $180 out of pocket but not only that, even though my I insurance covers the basic periodontal cleanings they still charge additional "required" services and they need you to come in quarterly which is outside the 2 free ones. Regular cleanings and periodontal cleanings at a basic level are not the same but still covered at 100% by insurance so why are they making this so difficult. Also how can I trust your establishment when you are inconsistent and unable to read insurance docs. The entire staff seems new and clueless once I asked my questions they had the front desk clerk bring me printout and after she tells me that I'm maxed out she proceeded to tell me how much it would cost out of pocket. She wanted me to pay an exam fee and said she wouldn't charge the X-rays but after telling her that I confirmed I was not maxed out and tried to explain the way it worked (after my insurance explained it to me) she shut down. They had no more time for me after I spent 3hours for them to tell me that I can't get regular cleanings and that I have the same issue my husband has by association. I found this office due to an emergency, I had extreme tooth pain that was intolerable. I was able to be seen the next evening and found I had a horrible cavity. Root canal, crown etc, and more xrays that revealed a tooth that needs replacing. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain what needs to be done and what to expect makes this process easier. I am sad my dentist left the practice, but I am confident the care I will receive will be top-notch. The follow up calls the next day from a cleaning?? Wow, that is a nice touch. read more

I am choosing to stop going to Aurora Modern Dentistry because I feel that their practices are questionable. The following are issues that have come up during my three visits there. The first visit I made there, they tried to get me to buy a night guard, fluoride, sealants, and deep cleaning service for hundreds and hundreds of dollars out of pocket, since so little of that is covered by insurance. During my second visit, they billed insurance for more than what was actually performed. For example, they charged insurance for Oral Hygiene Instruction, but the only comment on oral hygiene during the appointment was "you're doing really well with your oral hygiene". There was no instruction on what to do at all, so why are they charging insurance for this? During the third visit, a different dentist saw me and mentioned I have a cavity and that a crown would be needed because I have a filling from when I was a child that would need to be removed. He drew on the X-ray to show that there was space between the old filling and the nerve/pulp, so a crown would be sufficient. I scheduled an appointment to get a crown put in. Then two days before the crown appointment, I called to confirm and asked some questions. One question I asked was "What if you disrupt the nerve when you take out the old filling?" The office manager told me they bill for the highest possible needed service, so that I should be ok. That evening, a different dentist called me and told me I would actually need a root canal AND a crown. After rescheduling, I researched online about the endodontist who would be doing the root canal. He has many 1 star reviews and one comment mentioned "run, don't ignore the bad reviews." Every time I have gone to Aurora Dentistry, I have felt that something was off-- a gut feeling. Thankfully I have found a new dentist and feel very comfortable at that new dentist (Raabe Family Dentistry--I highly recommend!). I have since had the cavity filled by my new dentist. This new dentist thought that a root canal and crown was NOT necessary for my situation. He removed my old filling and got rid of the cavity and gave me a filling--NO root canal or crown needed... read more

If you're looking for a dentist for teeth cleanings and regular check-ups, then this place is okay. However, keep in mind that the word "Modern" is in the name of the establishment for a reason. Initial visits involve many more x-rays than I've ever received at other dental offices, as well as photographs of your teeth. Hopefully, your insurance will cover these. If you're looking for a dentist for fillings and other, more complicated procedures, my recommendation would be to avoid this practice. They do not do amalgam fillings - only composites. I'll let the peer-reviewed literature speak for itself on the differences between amalgam and composites. What's not debatable is the fact that composites are much more expensive than amalgams, and are not as well-covered by insurance plans. This site uses significant sales pressure to convince you that composites are better. I was really put off by these sales tactics (some of which very slyly played to a person's vanity or fear). I did my own research, consulted with some out-of-state dentist friends and ex-dentists, and ultimately went to an academic dentist for a second opinion - and an amalgam filling. Make your own informed choice. I, for one, will not be returning to this practice. read more

I broke a tooth and could not get into my regular dentist. So I went to Aurora Modern Dentistry and had a crown placed here. Let me first say the Dentist was great. The Crown was done in the office so I had it placed in one day which is nice. The billing is the issue. I have great dental insurance. Once I got my explanation of benefits it looks like they over charged me. I called 3 times and finally got a hold of a part time manager who told me since they make their crowns in office they can "set the price" I paid a total of 820 dollars for my crown and cleaning but my insurance company states I should have only paid 634. Which still seems like a lot but that is beside the point. I asked if it was fraud to charge differently and the part time manager states that "they are able to charge a standard price for a crown regardless of what crown was placed based on the zip code" I think the crown is good, it was done in a timely fashion. BUT, the cost and billing to insurance seem a little sketchy... Take out a loan before coming here... read more

I have been going here since about 2014 and that was after a few years of neglecting taking good care of my teeth and avoiding dentist. No dental phobia just no insurance, low money, low motivation. I have seen specialists for consultation and same day walked out happy with a completed procedure. No problems during or after procedures with any pain or infections! Pricing has been very reasonable! There are a few promotions a year they run to get discounted pricing. Insurance always taken care of. There has been some staff change but all are knowledgeable and I always feel comfortable. I will definitely be keeping up with my teeth here! read more

Went in for a basic dental cleaning, and consult a possible root canal. I was told that I needed a deep cleaning, with periodontal treatment due to severe gingivitis, so they couldn't do the basic cleaning. I was extremely confused because I have always been complimented on my oral hygiene and pretty teeth. I don't experience bleeding gums while brushing and flossing, but was told I needed planing and scaling an $1100 out of pocket (after insurance) procedure. I declined, seeking a second opinion. I did not receive my cleaning that visit. I did have the root canal and crown done (a little over $1100 out of pocket with insurance). I returned later and insisted that I just wanted a "Basic dental cleaning." I went in for the cleaning which consisted only of scrapping between the teeth and gums, with a minty rinse. No polish, no cleaning. They asked if I wanted to pay an additional $45 for Fluoride. Isn't that apart of cleaning? I felt like I was going to a salon that requires you to come with clean hair. Only that it was a dentist that you need to enter with a clean mouth. This office is very similar to going to get car service and repairs. I won't be back. read more

I needed a quick cleaning and I'm glad how quick they were able to get me an appointment. but Once I arrived they were late and the over all intake/ cleaning process took a littler over 2 hours. didn't appreciate how one of their employees tried to hustle me into getting a deep cleaning and tried to make it sound like I had gum disease which was later confirmed that I did not. Seems like they just wanted the extra $800 after I refused the deep cleaning I felt like I was felt dismissed. Needless to say, I was not the best at visiting the dentist, but finally got my bum into the dentist & this is the office I chose. From my first visit, the entire staff was AMAZINGLY nice & encouraging despite my lapsed status as a regular dentist visitor. They almost completely paperless, yeah environmental, and the Modern in the name is absolutely correct as all the equipment is as modern as you can get. They have a wonderfully knowledgeable gentleman that can work through your dental benefits & figure out what will & won't be covered and your options will be. A pretty good dental office. I've been to about 10 in my life and this one was a little above average. The DDS was very personable and friendly. The girl who did the x-Rays was also very friendly. Actually everyone there was friendly. I think going to a dental office for the first time is a little more nerve wrecking because you don't know if you can trust them. They really try and sell the fluoride if you're getting your teeth cleaned. As a side note, you can buy the exact same thing off eBay for $1-$2. They'll do it at the office for about $60. read more

I took her to Dr. McCann and Aurora Modern Dentistry, honestly because after moving to Colorado, they were the first office I saw. Thankfully, they were awesome!!!! They were extremely professional, friendly, discreet, and personable. I felt like they truly valued me and my grandmother's dental concerns. In the past my grandmother had complained about other dental offices chastising her for her dental predicament. But at Modern Dentistry they did not place blame, instead they offered solutions after first sitting down with us privately and asking us exactly what we were hoping to get accomplished from our visit. I am 24 years old and have gone to the same dentist for about 20 years. I went to him right before I moved to Colorado because I wanted to avoid a new dentist for as long as physically possible. He told me he felt like a distant uncle, and it's true, he did. So you can imagine my intense fear of finding a new dentist. My dentist fate was left to my insurance since I chose the closest "in network" dentist. I explained to them how scared I was, and my new 2nd favorite dentist, Katie McMann, eased my fears. She was thorough, explained EVERYTHING, and took things at a slow pace since I was nervous. Yes, Christine G., there were A LOT of x-rays, and I was a total baby about them and the dental assistant nicely held the pieces in my mouth so I didn't have to choke (yes, I was drooling and gagging all over the place, what of it?) And it was those x-rays that caught my "really-big-and-dangerously-close-to-my-nerve" cavity. And yes, my insurance thankfully covered them. So now, I had to get a crown. At first, like Christine, I thought I was getting the sales pitch. They were recommending all of these expensive things that my insurance only covered 1/2 of (which is normal). BUT I went to my insurance company and they assured me that this was all normal and I trusted that they truly were recommending the best options for my health. It turns out, one of the reasons why it was expensive is because they make the crown in office on the same day! Not only does that save in the long run, but it saved me a second visit which I was VERY happy about. For my first experience with a new dentist, and ever getting a crown. I can tell you that I am one happy patient! They were kind, and let me ask about 10000000 questions about insurance, crowns, payments, money, x-rays and more. When I said I was scared, they offered to let me watch a movie. Which I did, because like I said, I was a baby. Sorry for the lengthy review. I rarely review anything that isn't a restaurant, but these folks definitely deserved some kudos! One turn off? They need your signature for EVERYTHING! What gives? I absolutely hate the dentist, as most people do. I went in and was greeted by the extremely kind receptionist. She was very informative and let me know exactly what they were going to do. I was taken back to the room right away by the doctor, who was very nice, to start my exam. I received X-rays by a technician who was very kind and funny. After my X-rays, the doctor came back in and recommended several procedures. After discussing each procedure and making it very clear what each one was for, she sent in the receptionist to discuss the cost. The receptionist was very clear on what each procedure would cost and was not at all pushy on what I should get. Of course, I believe that oral health is very important so I opted for everything they recommended. I received a crown, filling, deep cleaning, and laser treatment. All of this took quite a long time, 4.5 hours. I was amazed that they were willing to do it that day and didn't make me come back even though it would go past their normal business hours. During all of the procedures they explained exactly what they were doing and about how long it would take. They were very informative and didn't leave any questions unanswered. They always made sure that I was as comfortable as possible at all times. I even got to watch a couple movies because it would take so long. I am extremely glad that I opted for all of the recommended treatments. My mouth has never felt and looked better. They did an amazing job!! Here is how they operate. The office manager, a crafty old witch, sits down with you and shows you what it costs to clean your teeth which will amount to over $1000 with good insurance and over $2000 without. Then depending on your reaction, she negotiates with you on what you can pay. I imagine that when people see the prices negotiated to half, they agree with somewhat temporary relief. I came there for a 3-month maintenance cleaning and when I didn't agree to the upcharges, suddenly the hygienist wasn't available. Look elsewhere if you want to be treated well. read more

I arrived for my appointment today. On my previous appointment, i was provided a quote of $1,048 for my visit today minus the $100 i already paid. When I arrived, that amount went up by almoat $300, as someone did not know how to do their job and forgot to add in charges for required items. On top of that, during my first visit; the x-ray tech did not know what she was doing and ended up costing me over $100 more than it needed to. I am not confident in the billing practices or the competence of the staff here and I do not recommend. I met with the office manager and she argued with me stating I do not owe the insurance company, even though I showed her the website where the insurance company wants me to pay for the 1st visit. The office manager argued with me about why it was okay that someone did not do their job and give me a correct estimate the last time I was here. Furthermore, this place refuses service to those who call them out on their screw-ups, stating it is a liability issue since a bad review is going to be left. read more
