We have hired Tawmie, the owner of All About the Finish for a number of projects over the years and…read moreshe has never failed to amaze us. She created a fantastic pull-out pantry for us on the top half of a very deep closet and pull-out drawers on the bottom. She helped us visualize how to modestly remodel our kitchen by turning a wall that had previously had an oven wall into a counter extension with cabinets on top and drawers underneath (the drawers were refurbished from the drawers under the stovetop which we replaced with a full oven/stove. Later we rehired her for a hall closet remake that has pull out drawers and a place for a broom and mop. After that, we hired her to turn our perpetually broken sliding bedroom closet doors into accordion-style doors. She used the original doors. Most recently we've hired her to create a corner table in our living room to hold a sculpture. She just finished that today, and we love it. Next week, she's installing two benches she constructed on either side of a beautiful cabinet made by my father-in-law many decades ago which we just inherited. Tawmie will take the time to listen to what we want, help us brainstorm and visualize what the outcome will be, and then make something that exceeds our expectations. We highly recommend her.

For a business that is named 'All about the FINISH' ... well Tawmie never finished the job we had…read moreoriginally agreed on. Maybe it's because she's too busy now with all her new business from the 'yelp phenomenon' and the 8 week wait, so she can't be bothered with finishing a small job with clients she didn't get along with. We, too were impressed with the yelp reviews here and contracted her to do some detail work on our kitchen remodel late last year. We were on a really tight timeline (baby #2 arrival was imminent) and the holidays were coming up. Tawmie was initially very flexible and accommodating, and suggested that although she wouldn't be able to personally do the work right away, she knew someone who could at least get the first part of the job done (we were waiting on some additional trim and it was understood from the beginning that part of the job would be completed in December, and the rest completed in the new year). We agreed. After the subcontractor started work, we expressed to Tawmie that we felt his work was not as good as we had hoped. Now, let me be clear. At this point the job was (and still is) not complete. We made our judgment based on unfinished work. Tawmie made a point of saying this, and I agree. However, instead of simply stopping there and reassuring us the work, on completion, would be much improved, Tawmie's attitude became very defensive and confrontational. For example. There is a really tricky area around our window casing that is just plain awkward. We discussed a lot of different options, and finally I agreed to one. We ended up not liking the way it looked, and requested that it be re-done a different way. Instead of taking it in stride and simply agreeing to re-work the area, (which, IMO is a non-issue as we were paying by the hour) we got into a back and forth regarding the fact that I had approved the work to be done the way it had been completed. I wasn't arguing that at all. I just changed my mind when I saw the end result, wanted to have it re-done, and apparently that was an issue. (I can't possibly be the first person to want work redone because I changed my mind??) Finally, we agreed to pay Tawmie for most of the work that had already been completed, and would pay the balance on completion of the job in January after the extra trim arrived etc... When we contacted Tawmie in January, she responded that she would not come back and do any more work on the job until she received payment for the full balance for the work that had already been done. This was NOT what we had agreed on in December. And, of the many contractors I have worked with over the years, I have never paid them until a job was fully completed. We have tried to contact Tawmie by phone multiple times to follow up regarding this, but as it stands right now, she has not responded to our calls, and our kitchen trim is still not finished. It is Tawmie's attitude in response to our concerns that clearly sent our relationship southward, and has me here writing a two star review, which frankly, is not a fun thing for me to do. I would much rather be writing a glowing review. I acknowledge that communication could have been improved on both ends, but at the end of the day, managing clients (us) and the work being farmed out (subcontractor) is part of growing a business. As far I can see Tawmie's craftsmanship is excellent, but her customer service needs a bit of... finish.

ProModeling earned our business through their strong reputation and high ratings -- but what truly won us over was the trust we built through personal, intelligent interactions with their team: project manager Alexandra Asaftei, designer Andrea Estalayo, and construction foreman Christian Mendoza. Anyone who has worked with contractors knows the anxiety of wondering whether things will be done right and on time. From our very first conversations, that anxiety was gone. Alexandra was friendly, organized, and thorough in explaining their entire process. Andrea used visualization technology to help us explore different textures, colors, and finishes, making it easy to imagine what our small space could become. Once we felt confident in the design, we gave the green light -- and the project moved forward without a hitch. From demolition to completion, the team was skilled, efficient, and professional. Christian went above and beyond to ensure everything met our satisfaction, and his attention to detail helped the project sail smoothly through the permitting process. Every aspect of the remodel -- electrical, plumbing, waterproofing, and tiling -- was handled expertly and on schedule. We couldn't be happier with the result or the experience.

Some adjustments were needed half way through the project regarding the transition from higher ground to the deck in the lower ground due to the terrain but Yvonne brought good ideas for how things could be adjusted while trying to keep the cost close to our budget. We are very pleased with the high quality of craftsmanship. In the future when we want to improve other parts of our backyard, we will definitely consider her and crew again!

It is exceedingly rare to find all the qualities you want in a general contractor--top to bottom throughout an organization--but Berkeley Craftsmen delivered them all: exceptional competence and skill, absolute reliability and trustworthiness, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuinely delightful team to work with. They should really be called Berkeley Perfectionists--in the best sense of the term. We would walk through the house, and someone would suggest moving something "one inch," and every time they were right. It's hard to believe, but they cared about our house just as much as we did. The entire team worked incredibly hard and steadily over the course of ten months. Even when we expanded the project scope--sometimes at their insistence, because they were committed to doing things properly--they stuck to the schedule and finished on the promised date. Literally no one could believe it, but we moved in on the day we had agreed to at the start. We cannot speak highly enough of the integrity, craftsmanship, and quality of Berkeley Craftsmen's work. And just as important, we were lucky to enjoy the camaraderie and collaboration that came with working alongside this remarkable team.

We are so eternally grateful for the introduction, and for their availability in taking on our project. I truly can't express adequately what a wonderful job they did building our home. The care and attention to every little detail, the excellence of every aspect of the work, and above all the quick, clear and responsive communication, at every stage of the huge project, were all outstanding. Mark Butler has continued to follow up long after most of the crews have gone, personally coming by to finish small punch-list items, making sure we are 100% satisfied. This project was very extensive, like down to the studs, with new foundation and drainage elements, all new interiors with drywall, new floors, complete new plumbing and electrical system, new exterior, solar system, windows, doors, everything, and we are completely in love with everything BC and all their subcontractors did for us. I can't recommend them highly enough, truly an exceptional company. It restores one's faith that there are still true craftsmen in the world who take their jobs seriously, and believe in honesty and integrity.

Our project included a new primary bedroom and bathroom, an expanded dining room, and a large wooden deck. The quality of the work is outstanding and the modern finishes throughout the addition truly elevated our home. Luis set up a clear structure for updates, and communication was always straightforward and easy. Any questions we had were met with helpful, down-to-earth answers, which made the whole process feel manageable. One of the biggest strengths of Outline GCI is their crew. Every person who worked on our home was incredibly professional, respectful, and considerate. Because we lived and worked from home during construction, this mattered a great deal. The team kept the site clean and safe each day and went out of their way to ensure our kids always had a safe place to play in the backyard. They also let us know in advance if anything noisy was coming up or if utilities needed to be temporarily shut off. That level of care made a huge difference. The project stayed on timeline and on budget, and any small hiccups that came up were handled collaboratively and calmly. It genuinely felt like we had partners throughout the build, not just contractors. We would hire Outline GCI again without hesitation and have already recommended them to several friends and neighbors. If you're considering a home addition or remodel, Luis and his team are an excellent choice.

They started in mid-December and finished by April 7, earlier than we anticipated, and that timeline included a major setback: an 80-foot redwood tree fell on the house during a Christmas storm. The roof was crushed, part of the structure separated, and we lost power for nearly a week. It was a stressful situation, and they handled it. They repaired all of the damage and still completed the full project within budget. That alone says a lot about how they run their jobs. Or Haim, the owner, is very communicative and genuinely cares about making sure everything meets expectations. That level of involvement made a difference. The fantastic onsite team was led by Jesus, who treated the project like it was his own home. He was thoughtful, detail-oriented, and clearly took pride in the work. We would absolutely hire Gilor again and are happy to serve as a reference.

We've done several other home improvement projects in the past and had such a headache with the contractors and sub-contractors not showing up when they said they would, or not paying attention to details, so I know how rare it is to find a contractor you actually like! Plus, their bid came in much lower than the three other contractors who quoted for us. We replaced four bathroom vanities which seemed like a small project, but required more skilled work than we originally imagined - including redoing plumbing and moving electrical to accommodate the new layout of vanity, mirrors, and lighting. The crew was very careful to cover surfaces to prevent damage (and also avoid dust getting on all our things) and to clean up their tools and equipment at the end of each day so we could have our space back. Arturo did really stellar work and clearly pays attention to the small details, like smooth caulking lines and patching each little area of drywall and paint to ensure a completely finished project. Their communication was great, and when we ran into a few hiccups with how to best install wainscoting, Jesus ensured we were happy with the plan before the crew moved forward with it. All in all, we really recommend Gilor and will be using them again for future home projects.
