I believe Flyover could be a strong contender for my favorite restaurant in mid Missouri. Our…read morewaitress was sweet and attentive - dinner moved along, but was paced nicely. My drink had a rose petal in it, but that little touch didn't feel contrived or cheeky - it was just a nice pop of color in a great-tasting drink. The baked Boursin cheese was absolutely amazing - I walked out of there realizing I probably ate half a wheel of cheese, and I totally didn't regret it. Dinner was the highlight - I ordered the boom boom shrimp - served on a bed of sushi rice, there were mangos, thinly sliced jalapeños, purple cabbage, shrimp fried to perfection, and a nicely flavored boom boom sauce on top. My only criticism of this place is that plates come out of the kitchen as they make them, so be prepared to share a dish or wait. We were halfway through my dinner before my friend's fish and chips arrived. I'm happy to share, but I'm not a fan of this dining trend. Overall fantastic dinner experience!!

Pretzels were warm and the cheese dip was very tasty. Fettuccine was good. 7/10. Solid. Slightly heavy on the salt. Pasta was good. 6/10. Not what I expected. Service was very nice. Pay online is a bonus, so convenient.

I had an excellent meal here! My friend and I came in for dinner and wow this place gets busy. But…read moreeveryone was super friendly and we were luckily able to find seats at the bar. They brew their own beer and it was all super tasty. The bartender was also nice enough to give me a small sample of two of the beers so I can decide which I wanted to have with my meal. My friend and I shared a pizza, a platter of wings, and a burnt ends plate. First of all- I was shocked how good the pizza was. Given I'm originally from NJ, I'm a bit of a pizza snob. But it was actually quite tasty. The platter of wings was solid. Not the biggest wings in the world, but the plate came with a bunch and the sauce was really good. And the burnt ends were phenomenal. Super tender, lots of flavor. The place itself was very lively- lots of happy, talking people getting ready for the night. Certainly a place to come to feel "energy". I was certainly overly stuffed after this meal- would come back again!

The beers are top-notch -- from the easy-drinking Canned Good and Flor Blanca Mexican Lager to the rich Thresher Porter, they're clearly brewing with care and creativity. The food matches the quality of the beer. We've been here for brunch and highly recommend it -- everything from the eggs to the bread feels fresh and flavorful. I also love how many of their ingredients are sourced locally, which really adds to the quality and uniqueness of each dish. On this visit, we shared the fried cheese curds and the brisket grilled cheese! We also happened to stop by for a jazz night, which was such a fun surprise. The live music totally elevated the atmosphere and made the evening feel special. That said, there's still a bit more they could do with the space -- it would be great to see more regular live music or special events to bring even more life to the room. Prices are a bit higher than average for Columbia, but for the quality, atmosphere, and local charm, it's worth it. Great beer, great food, great people -- a solid 4 stars!

Found this gem on social media and decided to give their first Buffett night of the season a try…read more We were not disappointed. We arrived at 5pm and quickly realized this place is popular. We waited for an hour. I suggest arriving early if you don't want to wait. It was a lovely evening so my husband and I sat on a bench outside and admired the scenery. The town is quaint and the vibe is super chill. Staff were attentive and polite. Seems to be family owned and ran place with an assortment of kids and teens helping in the kitchen and busing tables. They did run out of desserts but the waitress who helped us said that she had served 75 tickets in the first 1.5 hrs they were open so we didn't hold that against her. As tasty as the food was I'm sure the desserts were amazing hence the shortage. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The Rahm Schnitzel was my personal fav and my husband got the Jager Schnitzel. The live accordion music only added to the ambiance. If you're up for a scenic drive and some delicious German food plan ahead and come on down. This place is a diamond in the rough.

It is very romantic and extremely picturesque. Make sure you check my review on the Winery to see the rest of the photos. The service and the food. This place, though it isn't indicated anywhere, stopped seating after lunchtime and took a break between 2 pm and 4 pm. They weren't kicking diners out, but also wouldn't seat anyone till 4. This is a bit of a shock for those just trying to get a late lunch and missed the 2 pm deadline by a few minutes. There is no other close option for snacks or something of the like. And unfortunately, the attitude was very much of a... "well, sorry that you weren't prepared!" We almost didn't return, but we wanted a specific item off the menu. And to rate this place! (Just dropped my rating to 3 stars from 4 as I think of this. When we did return in time for dinner, the same person who didn't recognize us at all cheerfully greeted and seated us. The waitress was very good and knew her stuff. Even so far as to suggest a specific wine with my dinner when asked. The food - This is the main thing that lost a star. It was OK. I chose the German Trio, thinking of getting a little of everything. And, I did. However, when it says smaller portions (see menu picture), they mean it! There was a smallish brat, an incredibly small and overcooked piece of schnitzel (pictured), and lastly some overcooked pork with a sauce all over it. I believe they get away with serving this kind of food for several reasons. a.) The sauce is amazing! And yes, it is on lots of the food or on the side as you wish. b.) The winery has a trolley that runs to it. So many visitors are "trapped" till it returns, so a place to eat makes sense. Also, the place's main concern is wine. The average customer is at least lightly sauced and will view this as the best meal ever because they are going to remember the sauce! Those of you who typically read my reviews often times know that I give each venue the benefit of a doubt and will go eat at them a few times to ensure it wasn't just a fluke. But not this time. I found nothing extremely redeeming other than the convenience of eating right after drinking a bunch of wine. This place touts itself as one of the premier, old school, and fancy restaurants in Hermann. It is not. Pick one of the others and have a better meal.

I enjoyed a mulled wine, salmon and potato cakes. The food was prepared well and was delicious. The caveat (there's always a caveat) is, be prepared to spend a lot of money on a meal that I've personally cooked for about a 5th of the price. However, as I was eating out because I didn't feel like cooking tonight, it was very close to being worth the expense. I also want to thank my waitress as she was very good.

What a great little place…read more We stopped in here to grab a bite to eat after the long drive to town. Dropped off our stuff at our Airbnb and headed straight here. The only negative I have is that I didn't have time to eat more of the food. And order more drinks. So, this one will be on the list for a return visit. But, I can hear you saying... "Rob, you only scored it 4 out of 5!" Well, that is because I can't do a half-star. So let me explain! The Food - Amazing Schnitzel with all the right sides. Katie got the salmon, again seasoned and cooked to perfection. They get all stars for the food! The Ambiance - This place, at one time, was a working mill and has all of that rustic charm. There are private rooms that are decked out in the downstairs of the place, and plenty of amazing thick-beamed rooms by the bar and main seating area. Lots of fun things outside when it isn't too cold. Again, all the stars! The Service - The person who seated us gave us a quick rundown on the local liquors and their general food. Then, just for grins, let us go take pictures downstairs and at parts of the bar. See attached. She also offered to go further, but we declined and headed to our table. Our waitress... well... she was efficient and friendly. She took our order correctly and delivered the food and check appropriately. And here is where the half-star gets lost. I asked, "Which do you think is better tonight? The Lobster Spätzle or the Schnitzel?" Katie said I looked at her like she had just melted onto the floor when she replied with. "I prefer the Schnitzel! But, I haven't ever had any spätzle." Wait?!?!?! You are working in a Germanesq restaurant, in a Historic German town, and are over the age of 45. Obviously have worked here for a while. And you don't know what one of the 6 dinner dishes, not a salad or a burger, tastes like?!?!?! I mean... I can understand if it was vegan or something like that... but she just told me that she likes the PORK Schnitzel! Owner/Manager... please make sure your peeps can answer the simple flavor questions. Another place was even able to tell me which wine they thought would go with my food... off the top of her head, and they had more on the menu. That said! All of you who get the chance to eat here should take it! I know when I make it back to Hermann, I will, and I'm sure they will get that last star!
