The place was highly recommended and I thought I was in for something really special. Sadly it was disappointing. When I called on the phone Gavin was very helpful and patient as I have dietary restrictions. I ordered a soup that was vegan and gluten free ( Beet, Apple etc) and I ordered what I thought was a nice green salad only to see Parmesan sprinkled all over it even though I was clear that I was gluten free and dairy free. They took out the croutons but not the cheese. Gavin apologized and did a refund but i was surprised that he didn't offer to make things right but offering me something else as it wasn't my mistake and I had to drive all the way back to return the salad to get a refund. I don't blame him at all and I was wondering if this is managements policy ? Again I don't wish to knock Him at all as he was super busy at lunch time and mistakes do happen. Ambiance is a typically cafe bakery. - Cuban pulled pork sandwich with mushroom soup (4.5/5): This was delicious, so flavorful, cooked well. Perfect combo with the creamy soup. - Roasted chicken sandwich with Thai caesar salad (5/5): The chicken was so tasty, perfect seasoned. The sandwich had just the right amount of sauce and filling. Came back to show friends this bakery - also for the red pepper and egg croissant. Unfortunately their menu was not updated for the day and they were out of a lot of breakfast items by the time we arrived (around 10:00). I got a slice of pepper jack quiche and it was phenomenal! $11 is a lot for a slice, or it feels like a lot compared to other items on the menu, but it was quite filling. Was very excited to go and try this place, but very disappointed with the reactions from staff. Food was good, but staff so was rude. Seemed annoyed when we tried to order and rudely told us we couldn't sit there for hours when we had only been there for twenty minutes. If I could give a zero star I would. I went in and got a drink. I then closed my tab just because I always forget to go back and close it towards the end of the night. On my first drink I did not tip because I had planned on getting more drinks after. After I finished that drink I went back up to the bar for another and the bartender came up to me and said, "We aren't serving you anymore because you stiffed us on your last drink." Little did they know I was going to tip them around $25 for the last drink I had planned on having. So, the five other people I came with as well as myself decided to take our business elsewhere. This place does it all - one of my favorite lunch spots in como!! Besides offering lunch, they also open early for breakfast and coffee & are open at night as a bar. They have lots of sandwich options, salads, soups & pastries. You order at the counter so it's the perfect place for a grab & go coffee/breakfast or a casual lunch. I love this place because I feel like they have something for everyone on their menu. Very casual & great outside seating. I love coming here on a nice day to sit outside and get some homework done. All their bread is homemade & they have homemade bakery items too like cookies and granola. The bread is so soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The best roll/bread to get is the rosemary olive oil. All of their bread is available to buy a full loaf of, so I love buying their sourdough to use at home for sandwiches or toast. Everything I've had from here is so delicious. My favorite is any of their soups, the hummus plate or the thai caesar salad. There's not great parking, but there is a parking garage across the street. If you're in need of a great latte before work, a drink on the weekend or a wholesome lunch - this is your place!!! read more

This review is based only on the breads and coffee drink that we had yesterday morning, but they were well encouraging enough that I would go back and eat anything on the menu. The scone was everything it should have been, it held together, was moist, and was a beautiful mix of oats and big pieces of cherries. My friend got the orange-cranberry muffin (pretty sure it was cranberry, I didn't pay attention before I shoved it in my mouth), but it was definitely orange, and was soft and delicious. I also didn't pay attention (oops) to what my friend got for his coffee, but I believe it was the frosted mocha. I would not think that mint and coffee would go together, but I enjoyed how this tasted very much. We also got a loaf of their Columbia Sourdough, and it was one amazing loaf of bread. The crust was just like it should be, a little stong and chewy, the inside smelled so deliciously sour, and was soft, springy and just really wonderful. Made the best toast later in the day! I usually pick up bread and treats from Uprise at the weekly Farmers Market. So it was nice to go into their brick and mortar store! Ordered: Sausage biscuit Mexican mocha Chocolate croissant The service was amazing! They brought my pastry and coffee to me when it was ready. This place has great indoor and outdoor seating. This is great especially as the weather is allowing for more outdoor activities. The biscuit was so moist and a great breakfast item! They also had ham and cheese croissant, bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. The croissant was so flaky and delicious. I'll definitely be back just for the croissant. They also have a variety of other pastries like cinnamon rolls, cookies, brownies. I love when coffee shops take a spin on Mexican mocha. This is the first time that I've tried one and it had a kick. I've visited Uprise a few times before and make it a point to attend new showings at Ragtag at least once a month. I love the laidback environment. Last night, there was a misunderstanding with my tab. I tried to open a tab, but the bartender closed me out instead. She was in mid conversation with another customer so this was an understandable mix-up. Not a big deal. I decided that I was going to tip 20% at the end of my transaction since I was planning on staying for a while. I did not tip on the first transaction. When the bartender checked my receipt, she ran over to where I was sitting and accosted me in front of the entire restaurant for not tipping. I could not even get a word in because she was scolding me about "tipping etiquette." It was a very uncomfortable situation and I ended up leaving after. I understand how difficult it can be to live off of a tipping wage, but that is not how you get a tip. At the end of the day, you can't force someone to tip you. read more

Recently stopped by this bakery for an afternoon snack when I was in town. The peach pecan muffins looked delicious and I decided to grab 2 - one for now and one for later. They were super tasty and had a wonderful texture. the one I grabbed for later sat on the counter for about 6 hours until dinner and it was just as moist and yummy as the first one. Not sure what the ingredients are, but they taste a little healthier than the typical cake mix variety. Can't wait to go back. read more

As someone who works in the food industry the customer service was horrible. When I when up to order I had a simple question about their combo meal and the cashier was very rude about her answer. My friends and I had outside drinks that we put away before coming in and one of the workers very rudely told us that she didn't want to see any drinks. We kept getting dirty looks after complying and leaving our drinks in our bags. I felt very uncomfortable since they kept staring at us while we were eating. Won't be coming back. read more

The bread itself is amazing! They use quality ingredients with no added preservatives or sugars/ gums. All of their flavors are great! The service is okay. The only downside is it is hard to purchase the bread. Unless you go early it is sold out, and they distribute them to grocery stores which can also be tricky to find. Visiting my cousin in Columbia for a house warming bash.... It's been 22 years since I've been in town. I wanted to avoid French fries and this spot looked inviting with the bread baking and good looking sandwiches for lunch. It's a 2 screen theater and a bakery, attached to a record store. It's pretty amazing. All the better if you want some adult drinks and like to mingle with eclectic people. We enjoyed the pleasant service, my waitresses worked together to bring all my party's food out at once. I had the banh mi sandwich and I was very happy with it. This is such a quaint place in Columbia. I was visiting friends in the area whom told me about this joint. I loved it so much I stopped by twice. The bakery goods are amazing I had 3 different types of pastries potato, spinach, and mushroom including the biscuits. The service was excellent. While in Columbia I met up with a friend at Uprise and I was highly impressed! I had no idea what to expect-I thought it was going to be like any other bakery, but it wasn't. It was so much more. When I first entered I noticed the smell of popcorn! What? Apparently Uprise is also attached to a cinema and I can buy alcohol here?!?! I was in love. Since I was meeting my friend for dinner I had to look over the menu and make a decision-the grilled cheese sounded perfect for the rainy cold night. My friend ordered their soup of the day. Once we placed our order we went to grab a table. This place was packed for a Saturday night, but we managed to snag a table in a perfect location. Our food was brought out to our table by one of the staff members and my grilled cheese looked great! By the time I took my first bite I could tell how fresh the bread way and it was perfectly crispy! It was perfect and just what I needed. I was in the mood for dessert and since I heard a rumor that Uprise has the best cinnamon rolls I wanted one only they were sold out for the day! I guess I'll have to go back and get there earlier next time. Throughout dinner we were able to people watch and enjoy the atmosphere. This is a very laid back cafe/bakery with some really great options for breads, pastries, sandwiches, etc. I was also impressed with how awesome the wait staff was. Smiles all around. This place used to be one of the best places in town to get coffee and something to eat. They sure have gone downhill since I was last here. This is what $10.00 will get you. Their sausage biscuit is a joke these days. The sausage patty used to be nice and juicy and a nice portion. Now it's barely a patty. Then once I paid (and tipped mind you on a to go order), I asked for some jelly or jam and the girl wouldn't give it to me. I told the girl to take the .54 from my tip and she said no!! I've come here several times in a short timeframe because I dig the atmosphere so much and it's one of the few coffee shops in Columbia I can say that about. The coffee is actually decent and not too bitter. But that's about all. Service is always decently friendly. There's never not an open seat. But I'm not a fan of their bakery items unfortunately. The croissants taste too much like cooking oil and their focaccia sauce is way too strongly flavored of cayenne. It's really hard to take. Honestly, I've yet to find a food item I like on the menu. A fantastic little bakery with nice service and excellent food. I visited from Chicago and I'm still thinking about this food. I got a half sandwich and half soup and everything was so fresh and flavorful. It's super safe and spaced out in the bakery- they're doing their part to be safe because of COVID and I appreciated that a lot. Good bacon. The spicy tomato soup was very delicious. Next time I would consider ordering a grilled cheese sandwich to go with the soup! The curry potato soup was great. It made me consider coming back to try the curry chicken salad. Thai Caesar salad was tasty. It a basically a Caesar salad without the traditional cream based dressing. The croutons were garlicky and crunchy! Yum. The apple bacon cheddar sandwich is simple but such a great combo. The bacon was really crunchy, just the way I like it. The kids were out on Spring Break so there was plenty of free real estate. They have a diverse selection of lunch meat sandwiches, salads and a few other options. They let me know their Cuban is a crowd favorite so I thought I'd put their recommendation to the test. It surpassed my expectations despite all their Cuban propaganda. Their pulled pork was bomb and the fresh baked bread really kicked it up on a notch. +Bonus+ They have cold brew iced coffee. I didn't have to go with the "Iced Americano."
