Beware: Lip/Tongue tie diagnosis and procedure. Here's what happened with us. Right after our…read moredaughter's 1st birthday, we took her to West U Pediatric Dentistry (same doctor/ownership as Tanglewood) for her first dentist appointment. We were expecting just an initial cleaning, counting teeth, etc etc but they caught us off guard when they told us she had a "very pronounced" lip and tongue tie and would need a procedure to correct both. They told us without this procedure, she would experience delays with speech and eating. They also said she would suffer breathing and orthodontic issues later in life. On top of this - they told us if we did not do this procedure within 2 months, she would have to be put under anesthesia for it since she would be too big to swaddle. We were given pricing and paperwork and told each procedure would be $1,500, more if we needed anesthesia. As you might imagine we were blindsided and our initial reaction was "we will do whatever it takes for our daughter", but felt uncomfortable with the entire visit so decided to discuss with our pediatrician first. Our wonderful pediatrician told us not to proceed with any procedures without a second opinion from a Texas Children's ENT. We scheduled with the ENT and saw her today. The doctor said her lip and tongue are both within the normal range and that we "shouldn't consider releasing either any time soon." She said there has been a national trend of overprescribing the procedure for lip and tongue release, and there is a national board that has now drafted protocols for when it actually needs to be done. She said our daughter doesn't meet those criteria by any stretch. She also asked how much the dentist was charging. When we told her $1,500, she said that was outrageous. She recommended we not respond to them and find another dentist, which we have already done. TLDR; get a second opinion and trust your instinct.

After hearing so many horror stories regarding children who were sedated during their dental…read moreprocedures, I wasn't ready to have my four year old son go through that. My son had major tooth decay, which also affected his smile. I was worried that he'd have to undergo sedation, so my pediatrician recommended Dr. Hogan. Dr. Hogan is absolutely wonderful - after X-rays and examinations, he explained what was wrong and why he felt that sedation was necessary, although he does try to avoid that route. He went through every detail on what needed to be done and even offered different alternatives that would be more affordable. The days following my son's scheduled procedure, Dr. Hogan kept in contact with me and provided me reassurance. I was horrified at the thought of something going wrong during the sedation procedure, but Dr. Hogan patiently went through why he would never allow that to happen, let alone ever put my child in danger. On the day of the procedure, we were running late; however the office staff and Dr. Hogan were very kind and understanding. Although I was not allowed to stay with my son during his dental work, I had no problem - given that the entire staff is focused only on my son and needed to concentrate on making sure he has a healthy smile without any complications. The front office was very accommodating; they kept me updated on my son and also broke down all costs and fees to make sure I understood my charge thoroughly. The waiting room is clean and well kept with wonderful kid friendly decor. Once my son was finished, Dr. Hogan and the anesthesiologist sat down with me and answered any of my questions. Dr. Hogan also contacted me later on that evening to check up on my son. I am so incredibly grateful to have Dr. Hogan as my children's dentist. He genuinely cares for the well being of my child. If you're in need of a trustworthy dentist who cares about your child's dental health, I highly recommend Dr. Hogan.

They had a huge area with foam mats and blocks for kids to climb on and I was able to sit on the floor with him while he played so I could fill out the welcome paperwork. Next came the visit with Dr. Strassner (not sure if I spelt her name correctly) and she was absolutely wonderful! For one, because of my son's age, they don't expect him to be held down on a table so his teeth can be examined, which is what I was expecting, but they had a super kid friendly room with activities all over the wall and the doctor and I sat knee to knee so she could examine him while he was secured in both our laps. She was super thorough and cleaned his teeth in 30 seconds while we all sang him The Wheels on the Bus. She had an attentive, comforting bedside manner and made several excellent recommendations with alternative options depending on my comfort level. My son has a lip tie and she wasn't pushy about removing it because he is unaffected by it. After his (quick and thorough) visit, my son got to pick a toy from a bin and we were on our way. Yes the place is very "kid friendly" looking so I trusted them. When my daughter first went here she was not scared of dentists visits. Through the years every time we would go the dr would find something and give us a treatment plan that insurance would not fully cover. My daughter would always have cavaties and over time she got very afraid to go to the dentist. So then we would have to pay to have her be given laughing gas. The last time we went the dr said she again had cavaties, this time 3 or 4. My husband made a comment to me about how he didn't believe our daughter had cavaties and it just seems like they are trying to shake us down. So while on vacation we took our daughter to a dentist and guess what....they told us she didn't have any cavaties. So when we came back home I found another dentist and surprise they also said she didn't have any cavaties! Reading the other reviews it sounds like a common scam they are running telling parents their kids need all this work when they really don't. Pushing parents to put kids under to charge extra money. After spending a lot of money there feel scammed and would like a refund. Now my kid has silver teeth that she probably didn't need. Do not go to this dentist office if you love your children. All they did was traumatize my kid! And reading all the other similar reviews they are doing unnecessary work to over charge parents.

Although I can technically see my children (who are 3 and 4 years old at this time) for their dental needs, I have always preferred to have pediatric dentists to see my children for their dental needs as I know there are certain aspects of patient care which are different for adult patients vs pediatric patients (also my kids tend to listen better to other adults than me). From the scheduling of initial appointment to every aspect of our visits including recall reminders, I am truly impressed with Dr. Yang and her team's approach to providing the best care possible. Office is exceptionally well kept including a very cute lobby area to the super fun patient care areas and the well trained team provides exceptional services with friendliness. Dr. Yang's treatment recommendations were solid recommendations with conservative approach in mind and I am so happy to have found Dr. Yang's office for my children. If you are looking for a pediatric office for your children's needs, I would not hesitate to check out Evergreen Pediatric Dentistry and Dr. Yang. They are truly awesome and my kids are actually excited when they find out that they are going to see Dr. Yang! Also note that their office is pretty small so if you are bringing a stroller, I'd recommend a small one.
