I would give 1000 stars on this doctor's review if I could. I've been coming here for 5 years now and let me say one thing. I used to do everything I can to AVOID dentist(s), dental office visits, because THEY ALL SUCKED!!! it was painful, work being done incorrectly etc and it was just a nightmare. But after doing some research on google, I found Dr. Poria Rafiei and decided to give it a try. Little did I know, it was going to be a LIFETIME LUCK for me! HE IS SO CARING, THOUGHTFUL and VERY CAREFUL with procedures on my teeth. I have very sensitive teeth since I was young, so any little mistake can make me shiver with pain. But with Dr. Poria Rafiei, I never once felt any pain during the last 5 years of treatment. He is also awarded multiple times as best dentist in the USA. TLDR: Run, don't walk, to this dentist. I love, love, love my dentist and his staff. As someone who has had extreme dental anxiety to the point that I used to need sedation dentistry, this is obviously saying a lot. I was already in the process of getting over it when I switched to Dr. V. Because I trust him so fully from great experience after great experience, I no longer need to take prescription anti-anxiety medication before I go. He is kind and really cares about his patients. He does excellent and gentle work. He really tries to charge you fairly and even worked extensively with my insurance to get as much covered as possible. I need to give an additional shout out to Sabrina, the dental hygienist I saw today. She also really cares and pointed out some things to me about my dental care that I know will really make a difference since I have some special circumstances stemming from bad genetics. I have had bonding that another dentist did 20 years ago due to ultra-white staining on my teeth. I had Dr. V redo it two years ago, and I know it was a huge challenge to color match my teeth and cover those stains again. He was meticulous about making it look like I hadn't had work done and covering the staining. I also had whitening done on the parts of my teeth that were not bonded before he did the actual bonding replacement. Today when I went in for my normal cleaning, I asked about freshening up my whitening because I love red wine and coffee. I am getting married at the end of November, and I wanted my teeth to look my best for the pictures. They took care of me today without an additional appointment. No one ever tries to push anything on me that I don't need or want. They didn't push me on veneers that were out of my price range, although I am saving up for them because they look so good. I have seen Dr. V's work on veneers, and it is amazing. I really cannot say enough good things about Dr. V and his practice. Your vibe attracts your tribe, and his tribe is awesome. Dr. Poria and his team is absolutely AHHHHMAZING!!!! I refuse to go to another dental practice.

This might be the most inspiring and peaceful dental atmosphere I've ever experienced. Dr. Rafiei is first and foremost a professional; he knows so much about his work, and more importantly, why we need it. He explains everything in logical detail, which I appreciate. I know it's common for dentists to "look" for problems or issues to perhaps pad the cost, but he was willing to address the more 911 issues immediately, and then recommend others that would be possibly less pressing (in order to save my immediate costs). Our insurance is pitiful in what it covers, so having an awesome dentist is the only way I'd feel great about spending more to have some semi-serious work done (crown, fillings). The above is just the professional aspect; his personality is so genuine, and he is very caring. You can see he puts 200% care into his work, and he doesn't accept less from himself. His staff, his children, and his wife all were so fun and sweet. Also, the office is so nice and quiet. I love how it's not a huge circus of people scurrying back and forth with drills squealing in the background... Other nice touches: a keurig ready to brew for you, an inviting front area which smells amazing, and netflix if you are interested (while waiting to be numb. :-( I will be making this my permanent dentist, even though I live about 50 miles away! read more

Wouldn't know if he was good or not. Waited 40+ min for him to clean my teeth. Don't know why there's not a dental hygienist, etc to assist in that. Some of us have a small window of availability like a lunch hour, and not waste it. The staff seemed in no hurry to see what was the delay. I was the only patient there... waste of time. Dr. Rafiei and his staff are great. I'm not particularly fond of the dentist in general, but he makes the experience less stressful. His office staff are also lovely, helpful, and super professional. The only downsides I see are that 1) there is often a wait for Dr. Rafiei after being set up in an exam room, though not outrageously long, and 2) the Jesus music they play is kind of grating--just not my thing, I guess. Dr. Poria Rafiei is amazing. He treats all his customers with the highest of care. I use to hate the dentist and now working with him I'm at ease every visit. Not only will you get amazing work done it will be done correctly. I had a root canal done by him and had no pain the day of or following. This place is worth the visit. Great dentist, kind staff, great decor, and great location. Oh they also have monitors in from of your chair so you can watch tv while they work. Only negative is that the parking lot is on the smaller side but because of all the shops it's a continuous flow of people leaving and coming. Seriously A++! read more

Dr. Poria is absolutely incredible. My husband had been coming to him for years and always bragged about him. Dr.Poria has great bedside manners, completely honest, attentive to questions and concerns. He also helped me by educating me and properly sedating me while extracting my wisdom teeth (3 of them) and other work was done. Dr. R is the most patient dentist I have ever been to. I have extreme anxiety when it comes to dentists! I went to him in pain due to my wisdom teeth. He was able to see me and assess my situation right away. I scheduled a visit to have my wisdom teeth removed and Dr. R was patient with me every step of the way! His bedside manner is perfect. Coming from a person who has incredible anxiety and fear when it comes to dentists, my first visit with Dr. Rafiei at Distinct Dental was a 10/10. I was a new patient, so Janie gave me a brief tour of the office, walked me through the preliminary x-rays and prepped me to see Dr. Rafiei. She kept me at ease and worked with Melissa to answer my questions about what to expect as far as the visit and what I was needing done. When Dr. Rafiei arrived he was kind, gentle, and walked me through every single step of what was happening and explained to me what was to come. He immediately addressed my anxiety and instead of dismissing it, he was completely aware of how to move forward with me so I could get the dental work I need in the most comfortable manner possible. After my first meeting with him I found him to be transparent and easy to ask questions to. Not that I'm looking forward to having dental work done, but if anyone is going to do it, I feel comfortable with Dr. Rafiei and his team. One more thing to mention - he has an office emotional support dog, Cricket, who goes around the office checking on patients and comforts them when needed. Will post another review after the works is complete, but so far, I can say that out of the many dentists I've visited in Houston, this has by far been the best experience to date. read more

Dr. Rafiei, started out as a nice dentist, he did a root canal on my upper tooth, and once he completed he told me he wanted me to go to one of his peers to have him look at it to make sure it was done right, (WTH) I felt confused because why would I pay you and then gave to pay your friend to check your work... then he puts in temporaries, and told me it would be $1,400 for two porcelain teeth (that's even after my insurance was charged)..... I paid $700 and then time went by because I have 2 children in college and couldn't afford to come back immediately, so when I was finally able to go back and pay the remaining $700, I was met by a lecture and scolding by Dr. Rafiei (as if I were a child) because I didn't come back right away and he never asked why I wasn't able to come back, to add insult to injury he added another 300 onto it now it's $1000 instead of$700...... I'm sure I won't be back...... p.s. His wife is a really nice person the sad part is she's not a dentist.... as well his front desk staff is very immature and they sit at the front desk talking negatively about the patients..... read more

Contrary to popular belief, I had the best experience at THE DENTIST!!!! Can you believe it?? How many dentist offices have you been to where the DENTIST cleans your teeth??? Well Dr. Rafiei takes the time to clean his patients teeth...i couldn't believe it. Everyone from his assistant to his back office ladies were so nice, and made me feel comfortable the minute I walked in the door. The staff was beyond sweet & made the process so much easier. They had all of my insurance figured out even though it took multiple calls! Dr. Rafiei was by far one of the best healthcare professionals I have ever worked with. He was thorough with his review of my teeth and built quotes for me future procedures upon request.
