My mom took my 83 year old grandma for an evaluation today. It was a horrible experience! Dr. Poindexter was rude, unprofessional and failed to evaluate! My grandmother literally sat there 2 hours and at no time did he even look in her mouth! He took X-rays then came in and started a video about root canals...when my mom asked if he could explain to me who was on FaceTime, the treatment plan, he yelled at her that she could explain the video to me...what?! Then the office staff comes in to show them the price...over $4000 for the plan, the dentist didn't even have enough concern to explain. We can google a video at home...I'm sure he billed her insurance like he actually provided a service which he did not! In addition, he recommended 4 root canals for teeth that needed extraction...but we all know why... the root canals will allow him to bill the insurance a lot more than just removing them. While the office assistant was explaining the cost for everything, he comes back in yelling at her to get to the next room... At the very end, the other assistant says we can start the treatment and hands my grandmother prescriptions for pain meds...ma'am, we don't even know what the prescriptions are for since the doctor didn't bother to explain anything...does he even know what the meds are for? Sadly this is the type of service provided to a predominantly black underserved community...he should be ashamed treating black patients like this...I guarantee he would not treat patients like this in a more affluent neighborhood. We only went there because my grandmother saw his father several years ago and found comfort in returning to a practice she was familiar with...we will not be back. Oh and my mom said there were used dental instruments in the room they were placed...that's a whole other issue that is unacceptable. Time for the people of this neighborhood that I grew up in, to stop patronizing this dentist that only sees them as an insurance claim. I will say the office staff was amazing! I tried giving this dentist a chance. His bedside manner is unbelievable. I trusted him as a dentist. I had 2 root canals and 2 crowns an abscess formed at the bottom canal on 1 of the tooths. I went back to him and he told me I cracked it which he didn't know he was looking at X-rays from when he put the crowns in so that tell me he saw it then and just sent me home with antibiotics, he had the assistant to do another xray, came in and looked at it and told the assistant she have to many issues let her sit I have a root canal to do. WOW! After waiting 20-30min he came in and gave me referrals. That cost me $100 just for the consult. Well he did my root canal incorrectly and missed 2 roots. Now I have to have a redo on the infected canal and 2 canals removed. No one like root canals but to have to go through it twice is suffering. I will never go back to him again and will not be referring anyone to him. read more

Where do I begin. My daughter and I started coming here after leaving my last dentist who I felt was pretty pricey. We absolutely love Dr. Poindexter and his staff. I teach across town and them being open until 7 is a plus. We usually set our appointments for 5pm. My daughter is going through orthopedic work spaced out for four years and we are coming to the end of Phase 1. She has an underbite that is structural, meaning her entire bottom jaw is not aligned properly. She has the bite of a 5 year old and is about to be 9. Before we began the process in December, Dr. Poindexter explained to me her pallet expander, the weekly turning I would need to do of the screws, how he wanted to start on her early before her bones set. Her cousin had to have his jaw broken and reset when he was in the military to fix the same issue. I did not want that for her. She is currently 8. Well, it is going extremely well and we could not be any happier with the services. I was expecting to pay a large amount. I'm actually almost done paying for it even though they broke it down to $27/month. Fast forward to yesterday, June 30th, he was actually closed for the 4th of July weekend. Dr. Poindexter was there doing paperwork. Her pallet expander came slightly loose (the part that had to be glued to the top of her mouth). She was very uncomfortable. I called at like 11:30 he told us to come in even though he was closed for the day, and would be taking a little vacation. He worked on her for about 30 minutes detaching and reattaching her expander. He added plastic caps to her back teeth to allow her top teeth to move forward without any interruptions. I'm so glad he was able to get her in. I would not have gotten any rest, I know this would have been a weekend of complaining. Phase 1 may end in a few months, her jaw is moving nicely :-) read more

The worst experience of my life. Staff was delightful. The dentist, loud and unprofessional. We were cash paying customers. Went there for a tooth ache. He demanded additional services proir to pulling a tooth that needed to be pulled. The patient was obviously pain. The dentist did not explain why the other services HAD to be done. All I heard from lobby was he was not removing the tooth. This additional work was going to cost $1000. Would not accept a payment plan. I get that he doesn't have to, but demand service and expect it all upfront. Then refuse help someone that was in severe pain, saddens me. It took everything in me not to tell this man off. I had to get my family out of there fast. I will make sure to tell everyone I know, to stay far awayfrom this place. I would not take my dog there. Remember Karma.... Dr. Poindexter is very well the best dentist I've ever encountered. He was the only dentist in the entire city of Houston (and surrounding areas) who would treat a detached crown on a Saturday on Labor Day Weekend (over two years ago). I've been going to Dr. Poindexter ever since, along with my family. I happily drive over an hour to visit him as he is very careful, explains everything, and is very easy to get along with. On top of that, he is a master of pain management; he doesn't like to have his patients experience undue pain if he can help it. I've had him fill cavities, replace crowns, and even a root canal; all procedures were painless. Dr. Poindexter recently performed the removal of four wisdom teeth from my 19 year old daughter. She was so happy with him and the procedure that immediately after the extractions were complete, she hugged him! The next day, he called to find out how she was doing, and gave additional advice on her continued recovery. If you are looking for a dentist who will fix just about any problem you have with your teeth without having to play the consultation game (go to dentist: get consultation: go to other dentist or surgeon: etc), then Dr. Poindexter is your man. If you want a dentist who will perform your dental procedures with minimal (and in my case, NO pain), Dr. Poindexter is your man. If you want someone who really cares about his patients, then once again, Dr. Poindexter is your man. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Being greeted when you first arrive somewhere is always a plus in my book. The receptionist acknowledged my presence upon my arrival. After signing in, I took in the aesthetics and architecture of the building, which has a sense of history and charm that reflected the legacy of the company (family-owned and operated). I didn't get an opportunity to look closely at the artifacts hung proudly on the wall because less than 5 minutes later, I was escorted to the patient room to fill out the rest of my forms, which made me at ease because I could fill out the forms in comfort while I waited for my services. Xrays were performed soon afterwards and I still hadn't had a chance to fill out all my paperwork (very efficient)! The equipment is as state of the art as any other dental office I've been in, which also saves time. Although there was a delay to continue the rest of the appointment as scheduled, the issue and the estimated wait time was communicated to me. One visit and you'll see that Great Customer Service is what has kept PD, Inc in business for many decades! From the time you walk in until the time you leave, you're patronage and support is verbalized from the receptionist, hygienist, and the owner, Dr. Zeb Poindexter, who is actively present in making sure the customers receive the best care during their visit as efficiently as possible. After seeing an add while I was online, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Poindexter. I really wanted to patronize businesses owned by brown-skinned people (people of color), so I was hoping to have a good, if not great experience. I had a cavity that needed immediate attention. I elected to have him fill the cavity and boy, that was a big mistake! Dr. Poindexter was so rough handling my mouth while he was filling my tooth. He tried to drill my tooth without putting numbing medicine, saying the cavity was not close to the nerve. Are you kidding me? He called me "baby" while I was in the chair. How unprofessional. I don't usually write reviews, but I had to write this one so I can save others from the misery I experienced. I am so grateful to dentist Zeb Poindexter and the office staff. I am from Beaumont, Texas. I went through 8 major surgeries 3 of which required cardioversion. I couldn't eat or drink for 8 months. Now as far as the dentist Dr. Poindexter or should I say Mr. Poindexter. This man is the most unprofessional, unpleasant, no bedside manner having doctor that I have ever encountered. Today was my first and last time at this establishment. I traveled from Cypress to the HOOD of South Park to support a black business and was treated so poorly that it was unbelievable. I kept my composure because I felt myself about to read this man his rights. Just the arrogance he carried was nothing I've ever seen before. Trying to catch up on health appointments for my octogenarian mother in the wake of COVID. I try to support black owned businesses, but the head dentist's bedside manner was horrible. I did not voice my opinion to my mother, but after she got home and read over the office policies (they charge you a penalty for everything) - she told me she did not want to go back. So, I reached out to the office via email to request that they not submit the treatment paperwork to her insurance provider, since my mother was not coming back to them for treatment. I also followed up by phone THE SAME DAY and spoke to Yulonda who said they would not send the paperwork. Well, over a month later we learn that THE PAPERWORK WAS SENT. The insurance company of course has DENIED the proposed treatment - if you know ANYTHING about dealing with health insurance companies, you know that you must be involved and advocate for the treatment throughout the process to have a chance of "approval." However, this is not an option anymore because they LIED to us about the paperwork and never bothered to respond to our email. At this point, we will have to wait until 2022 (new plan year) to seek treatment for my mother. Poindexter Dental fails epically at Customer Service 101 -- I am guessing they will try to hold my mother's dental records hostage as well. read more

I was referred to Poindexter by a friend who went and had a tooth extracted. I've been dealing with a major toothache on and off for a couple years and this time it seemed like the pain wouldn't let up so I made an appt. By the time by appt came my tooth was feeling much better. When I walked in I was greeted by the staff and Mr. Poindexter. I had some forms to fill out and before I was done I was called to the back for X-rays. I had to have an emergency surgery and man oh man I was terrified but he took really good care of me including the Hygienist. They did a deep cleaning and had to remove my tooth and abscess. When I left I was in so much pain but everything healed well and I didn't have any issues. I have a follow up soon and I have to get the rest of my deep cleaning done and the sutures removed along with a root canal! Yikes! It's affordable! As far as Poindexter he's very serious, assertive, and firm when it comes to his work. He plays no games! Lol! He's a great dentist and I'm glad he was a surgeon as well! Then I paused and I said "Wait is he gonna have a problem with doing one implant instead of 2" and the Hispanic lady worker said "Don't pay him no mind long as you're happy so are we".... but something still told me to wait and as Poindexter was coming down the hall I stopped him and said "Poindexter I'm gonna pay for the one implant is that ok" He told me "No sir I will not do it if it's not the two, either two or none" I said " but sir I don't have money for two" and he said "Well I can refer u to another friend of mine that does good work" and I said " seriously ur gonna deny me service because I don't have money for 2 implants" and he said "Well you should save up to Get two " and patted me in my back... and said "That is very unprofessional I've never heard a dentist deny someone service because they don't have money to get what u want them to do" and he said "Well that's Y they made more than one dentist" ... even his workers were whispering " we're so sorry" This man is horrible horrible horrible.
