Smoked salmon frittata with whipped feta and House made rye toast with buttered potato wedges! Yum!

Lovely, quaint little French- inspired restaurant in the sleepy town of Beamsville! Peaceful, relaxed patio ambiance and the food.... So good! Bread, ketchup, preserves ... all made in house!! The menu is lively and fresh. The food was so yummy and I understand most of the menu items are also sourced locally! Yay! Wonderful service, beautiful fresh yummy food, relaxed ambiance! A rare treat!

Breakfast Gratin with sunny side eggs and cornbread

A simple country restaurant, perfect before a day of wine touring in the area. We had brunch here on the weekend and found it charming. The tables are spaced far apart, with repurposed window frames serving as dividers in the dining area. I had the breakfast gratin, which had two eggs on top of a creamy garlic vegetable gratin with Swiss and Asiago cheese. It is served with a side of crispy potatoes with a choice of white, rye or cornbread. I like the dish as it came piping hot and the crispy potatoes went so well with the creamy gratin. A real treat of a brunch dish! Extra star for being able to accommodate a larger group (10 ppl) with reservations.

I found August on yelp after picking our own fruits at a nearby farm to grab a quick lunch before we head back to the city. I was pretty excited based on the pics and the stellar reviews but got disappointed after looking at their menu. Every item on the menu with the exception of salad and beef bourguignon has cream in it. Being lactose intolerant, I only had one dish to choose from. The waitress even confirmed that was the only dish cooked without some kind of cream. As for the beef bourguignon, the pastry was very light and crispy however the taste was just ok. I found it very salty and the flavour of the beef was not the best. It had a slight hint of ginger or some kind of spice that wasn't pleasing to my palate. The hubby ordered the mushroom risotto which he thought it was ok.

The moment you step into the restaurant, you will notice pictures of the owner and chef with the host of "You Gotta Eat Here". Then you will be greeted warmly by the simple fact in life, a sign stating 'People who love to eat are always the best people. - Julia Child' August serves delicious comfort food. It is an upscale bistro style. The lunch menu consists of sandwiches and salads, the dinner menu consists of hearty entrees. My companions and I visited August for dinner. Complimentary herb potato bread was served with our entree. We all ordered different dishes for dinner - Seafood Stew shrimp, scallops and fish in a sweet potato and coconut curry served with mango chutney, Creamy Seafood Mac 'n' Cheese baked with shrimp, crab and scallops in a tarragon cream, Potato Gnocchi and Blackened Chicken with sun-dried tomatoes and spinach in a basil pesto cream, Flank steak with Potato Gnocchi, and Lasagna. I thoroughly enjoyed the Seafood Stew shrimp, scallops and fish in a sweet potato and coconut curry served with mango chutney. The curry stew had a bisque like consistency. The mango chutney acted as a palate cleanser. It adds a hint of acidity to the overall dish. My only recommendation for August would be to either cook the scallops less or use larger scallops as most of them were over cooked. Everyone at the table were content with their meal except for my brother who ordered the Flank steak with Potato Gnocchi. The steak was over cooked. The gnocchi was bland. He was extremely disappointed at his meal. Overall, I would recommend August Restaurant for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Stay away from the flank steak to avoid disappointments.

Risotto with mushrooms

Nice and cozy restaurant. When we came on Saturday evening, almost all tables were reserved. We've got a small table for two. The service is friendly and the food is very well done. We ordered seafood gratin, mushroom risotto, salad and been soup. All was delicious and reasonably priced.

Great restaurant. My girlfriend and I were on our journey around the Ontario wine routes, and we chose a B&B not far from this restaurant. Most people we spoke to recommended this restaurant, and the menu and prices sounded fair enough so we decided to go. Well it was a great surprise to an uncertain chose. We thoroughly enjoyed thai restaurant, for a number of different reasons. Firstly, a lot of their produce and products come from the "terroir", and their wine list is filled with wines from the region. We did a bit of wine tastings before dinner and the friendly staff allowed us to continue by tasting a few more during dinner! How amazing is that!!! Well I had the antipasto plate and it was one of my favourites ever, if not my most favourite! And as a main I had the seafood stew, wow was it ever delicious! Wow, it was so delicious! I would recommend this restaurant to any one staying in the area and anyone who has a chance, the food and service was absolutely fantastic!

The Pork Tenderloin on mash with roast vegetables.

We had a large group for the location with a variety of meals at the table. The Ice Tea was a pleasure to have as it is house made and uses far less sugar than commercially obtained versions. Duck rolls were a nice appetizer to have by yourself or to share. The locavore appetizer was very nice to share among as many as five of us. I had the Pork Tenderloin with mashed potatoes and roast vegetables which was a nice meal. Others totally enjoyed the daily special of fish. The servers were appropriately attentive.

Sticky Toffee Pudding.
 Really, really good.

Sat Jan 23 2016 We dropped in without a reservation at 5:45 and got the only open table, the interesting seat at the entrance, almost inside the kitchen. This turned out to be a good thing as we saw every beautifully prepared dish going out to the main dining area, and we became very friendly with the owners and wait staff, a really great bunch who love their restaurant and love their food. On the menu: House Caesar Salad: 3 out of 5, dressing was too creamy for my taste. Seafood Stew; 4 out of 5, very tasty with a slight curry flavour that added a lot. Sticky Toffee; 5 out of 5, the best sticky toffee we have had, and we always try it if it is available for dessert. Overall, a lovely meal and a restaurant we would recommend. We will be back to try some of the food we saw prepared.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario in Vineland, this storied establishment, housed in a structure dating to 1867, has become one of those places that quietly lodges itself in the memory and refuses to leave. We made the drive -- well over an hour -- for a Sunday brunch, and not for the first time. It is the kind of restaurant one finds oneself recommending without hesitation, not as a curiosity or a seasonal indulgence, but as a benchmark. The setting alone would justify the journey: a sweeping, unobstructed view of the lake from the sunroom and patio that shifts in character with the light, the season, and the mood of the sky above. On a clear day, the Toronto skyline is visible on the horizon -- an almost implausible grace note. But Lake House does not rest on its scenery. The kitchen demonstrates genuine culinary ambition with a menu that draws from Mediterranean traditions while remaining grounded in local and seasonal sensibility. The salmon crab cakes -- a pairing that sounds indulgent and delivers accordingly -- arrive with a pineapple and mango chutney and sriracha aioli that balance richness with levity. The Great Canadian Burger is a study in considered indulgence: brioche, peameal bacon, sweet bacon jam, and spiced maple aioli achieving a harmony of sweetness, heat, and savoriness that lingers well past the last bite. The service matched the occasion throughout. From the welcome at the door to our server Rhonda -- attentive, warm, and precisely calibrated in her pacing -- to the supervisor who moved quietly through the room ensuring that every table was well attended, the floor operates with the kind of seamless, unhurried care that is too often mistaken for effortlessness. It is not effortless. It is practiced and deliberate, and all the more impressive for it. Lake House Restaurant is a destination that justifies the drive, rewards the return, and -- in a dining landscape where so few establishments manage all three -- that is no small thing.

With a view of Lake Ontario, it has a rustic modern vibe where you can do indoor or outdoor seating. The staff were helpful in giving us recommendations and accommodating when we had other requests. Salmon Crab Cakes - The crab cake itself was lightly crusted and had a good salmon flavor that came through. The fresh pineapple and mango chutney on top added freshness while the sriracha aioli added a mild spiciness. Fresh P.E.I Mussels - The portion size of this was massive like the size of a mini pot. The garlic and tomato were the rich flavors that came through and I love when it is paired with mussels. The highlight for me was the onion white wine soup at the bottom that was comforting and delicious with bread. Great Canadian Burger - One of the most indulgent and tasty burgers I have had. First, the bun was so soft and a perfect brioche bun. The beef patty was thick and super juicy and it went well with the peameal bacon that added texture, sweet bacon jam and spicy maple aioli. It was a decadent mix of sweetness, spiciness and savoriness. From the portion size to the flavors and the price, we had an amazing experience and would love to come back to try some of their other main dishes.

For drinks, my wife and I each grabbed a bottle of Rickard's. They serve it in a frosted glass which is a nice touch, but... the price was pretty wild. Paying around $9-$11 for a bottle/can felt a bit excessive. We started with the Broccoli Cheese Poppers, which we've ordered at other spots before since they're usually vegetarian-friendly (my wife is pescatarian). I thought they were really tasty, but unfortunately my wife had almost finished one before realizing there was bacon inside...and it wasn't listed on the menu. When we asked to confirm, it was pretty disappointing. She was understandably upset, especially since she's been pescatarian for over 10 years. It would've gone a long way if they at least took it off the bill, but they didn't, and that definitely hurt the overall experience. For mains, I ordered JJ's Meatloaf; really solid dish. The mashed potatoes were a highlight, veggies were cooked nicely, and everything had great flavour. Only downside was the bun that came with it got pretty soggy. My wife ordered the Grilled Fish Panini; she liked it, not amazing, but good. The fish was fresh and flaky, and the bread had a nice garlic bread vibe. Overall, it's a decent spot with good food and a nice setting, but the beer prices and the issue with the unlisted bacon definitely took away from the experience.
