Went to August 8 with a small group for all you can eat sushi. The restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of seating. We made a reservation beforehand, so we did not have to wait in line (the line was long at times). August 8 has an efficient ordering system; their menu is on an iPad and customers select what they want, send the order to the kitchen, and within a short time, the order is processed/dropped off by the waiter. We ordered rolls, sashimi, wontons, dumplings, and dessert. I was especially impressed with the sashimi, which was fresh and meaty. This is one of those AYCE sushi places, but their twist on this format is that they also serve many dim sum dishes. We arrived around 5:30 PM for an early dinner on a Monday. The restaurant was very modern and clean. It was about half full when we were seated, but quickly filled up while we were eating. We ordered a variety of dishes that included the standard sushi, gyoza, and other Japanese ACYE options, but also several dim sum dishes. There were more dim sum offerings than I had expected, but since it is AYCE, the quality of each was not as good as typical dim sum in a Chinese restaurant. However, it was AYCE. Their siu mai and har gow, two dishes that indicate how good a dim sum place is, were decent but not outstanding. There were some dishes that stood out among the rest, such as the sticky rice in lotus leaf and BBQ pork buns. I liked the menu selection of dim sum and your typical AYCE Japanese offerings, and the service was very good. However, at $39.99 per person, the price is a bit high to justify a return visit. read more

We came here on a Saturday afternoon right at opening and the space was pretty full - a majority of tables around us filled up within an hour of us sitting down so the space got lively pretty quickly. We originally wanted to come because of the AYCE dimsum, but we were pretty disappointed by the selection - it definitely was less than we thought it would be and the quality also left a lot to be desired. They really only had like 7-10 dishes in the dimsum selection and were missing key things like rice noodle rolls and turnip cakes. The sushi was solid I think, your typical buffet quality, but the variety there was also less than I thought it'd be. We nonetheless got a ton of food for the four of us to share and were very full at the end. The service was really solid - probably one of the best I've ever experienced for a buffet. The ordering system was very efficient, although a little confusing user interface wise, but we got our food within minutes of ordering and our waiter was also pretty attentive and friendly. They even have a robot that we saw serving food and drinks sometimes - definitely really good technology for the staff! Overall, I'd say that if you're looking for an AYCE sushi experience, this spot is pretty solid. I would go elsewhere for dimsum, but sushi here is a decent experience. read more

I felt safe good job on this one . Four stars coz it's a little cramp for my liking but it feels intimate also. I came with my mom and 2 kids. Taste 5/5- especially the salmon guys!!! It's a must try!! Off course who can go wrong with sushi? Right? The oil they used on the tempura seems to be fresh tasting. With Covid 19 precautions we decided to dine in Saterday evening.. Atmosphere and staff was freindly. quality of food in general was fair , I enjoyed green dragon roll mostly. I don't like sashimi virities and presentations al all my issue with their menu .. were the miss led on salmon winton tacos picture so, I ordered 6pcs , and hooooray 6 complete salmon tacos like mexican real tacos size came to me !!!! We've been here two times now and we're surprised both times. What I really like about August 8 is that you can get both dim sum and sushi. Do note however dim sum does tend to be heavy so I do feel that you do get full easily but I love that you can order as much as you want since I believed him some to be one of my favorite foods. The second time we came here, we did notice that there were new items such as their sushi Taco which was really good. This place has a huge selection of food with a very cravable dim sum dishes such as their char siu bao and tripe. And their sushi quality is very good for an all-you-can-eat restaurant. The only thing I would say is that it is kind of expensive and for two people on a weekend night you're looking at paying around $100. I would say it's more worth it if you go with more people or if you have a very large appetite. However we will probably visit again because the food is so good read more

I've been hearing a lot about this ayce dim sum and sushi place, and it was the only thing open on Easter Sunday so we decided to give it a try. We were seated right away and were pleased with the kindness and attentiveness of the staff. You order through an iPad which was nice, as you didn't have to order a million things with a server. Food came out at a decent time. Sometimes the food would come almost instantly after we ordered it, but some would come super late. We found that this occurred more when ordering the dim sum items, so we understood that it must take a bit longer to prepare them. There's a good selection and variety of foods on their menu, from noodles, to soups, to fried rolls, and dumplings. They do have a more limited menu compared to other iPad all you can eats in the area. Was a bit disappointed to see they didn't serve sashimi though. We also found that their water had a funny after taste? At first I though it was just me but my partner tried his and it was the same. The glasses were also very cloudy and old. Overall, it's a great place if you're not sure what to eat, however, I do think there are better ayce sushi places with more variety! read more

Second visit to August 8 and it was just as good as my first visit. The service is prompt and attentive and they never forget any items when you order AYCE. The rolls are perfectly bite sized and easy to eat compared to some sushi restaurants where the rolls are hard to eat in one bite. The tenderloin and mushrooms and short ribs are delicious. Ordered takeout from here. I have to say I feel like the quality in their takeout isn't as great as eating in person. I found the rolls less full than other sushi places I've tried in the area. The shrimp on the dynamite roll seemed a bit dry, which was unfortunate. Overall the taste of the food was pleasant so I will say I was happy with the order! The hot and sour soup was great, and the portion was large / worth the money in my opinion. What I like about August 8 is the variety of menu items. I was excited to try the dynamite tacos which come in a small hard shell - if you haven't had this I would definitely recommend trying it out if you have the chance! The taco ingredients were perfectly stacked and allowed all the flavour to come out with just one bite! Updating my review! A few years ago, I got some really bad takeout from August 8. Since then, I have tried them again and I now LOVE August 8 - it's my go-to sushi restaurant for not eating sushi. I don't like sushi; I suck like that. But there are SO many good things at this restaurant that don't involve fish or seaweed, I could eat here all the time. The tempura is so light and satisfying, and the chicken teriyaki is delicious. I love the cheese wontons. I've eaten in the actual restaurant and have ordered takeout a few times and it's gone splendidly - much better than the first time I ate there. I definitely recommend actually going to the restaurant, though. It's a really great experience. read more

We visited August 8 for the first time last week. The restaurant is quite large, clean and nicely decorated. We had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table at 1 p.m. on a weekday, which I took as a good sign! We were seated and our drink order was taken promptly. We perused the iPad and submitted our order. The food came out quickly and most of it tasted pretty good. It was fairly standard fare for an all-you-can-eat Japanese/dim sum restaurant. The teriyaki/teppanyaki chicken and beef dishes were a bit overcooked and dry, but the flavour was good. The soups were a bit bland, but not bad. The sweet and sour chicken roll was very tasty and so was the siu mai. The shrimp dumplings, wontons and tempura were all delicious and piping hot. The salmon belly was yummy. The main complaint we had though was that the pork dumplings we ordered were raw in the middle. I mean, COMPLETELY raw. The wrappers weren't really cooked either, which should have tipped me off right away. But I took a big bite and that's when I realized the whole thing was raw. I called a waiter over and showed him and he said "Oh yeah, that's definitely not cooked" and took it away. I told him not to bother bringing any more to replace them. That was the absolute last we heard of it, which I think was a big mistake. When you serve raw (lukewarm) ground pork to customers, I think there should be an apology at the very least. Perhaps this wasn't brought to the attention of the manager and maybe I should have done that, but I know if it was my restaurant I would have either discounted the bill or offered a small gift card for a future visit. All in all, it wasn't a bad meal, but the raw pork definitely left a bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively). I won't be rushing back to August 8 anytime soon. read more

We went there on a Sunday at 1pm and were told it would be a 45 minute. The girl Hostess seemed like she really hated her job . She gave us a table after 30min wait . a both at no time did she have any common sense that I was to big for a both and I would not fit . I even had to explain why I could not fit . They gave us a iPad to order that did not work seems to be a common issue with other reviewers . Tea cups were all chipped . Food came out fast but quality was not there . Hand rolls had lots of rice but little fish . That was the same for all the other suchi lots of rice . The wait staff were very nice We wont be back . While the food was very good and a nice ambience at the restaurant I experienced a very bad time and will think twice before going back again. On Saturday (May 6, 2023) I was with my family of 8 for a special occasion. Five decided to do the all you can eat menu and the other three decided on a la carte as they weren't too hungry (and two being seniors). After ordering the waited pulled our table of three apart from the others putting at least six inches or more between us, saying it's restaurant policy to separate physically the two types of orders! What a pathetic policy. I felt so embarrassed with this and it spoiled my evening of celebration. I suggest to the management they change such an ignorant and draconian policy. Yikes. Was not impressed at all with this AYCE sushi restaurant. I've been to the Burlington location as well, but didn't experience the same level of dissatisfaction as I did here in Oakville. My friend and I visited for the lunch all-you-can-eat menu, which I would consider to be a tad more expensive than other AYCE sushi places I've been too ($20.99 plus tax). They DO NOT accept debit, which is worth mentioning because if you aren't prepared or expecting that- you might be in a jam. They provide tablets for you to order at your own leisure, but half of the menu didn't show photos or descriptions of the items. Our waitress ended up taking our tablet away when it just stopped working all together. It was 25 minutes before it was returned to us, and that was after we asked her for it. The food wasn't good. The sushi fell apart and was incredibly bland. It barely even tasted like fish. The fire alarm went off after the first round of our food arrived and didn't stop for the 2.5 hours that we visited. Because of the fire alarm, the kitchen was not able to produce ANYTHING other than sushi hand rolls. It was pretty disappointing for such an expensive outting to only have a small portion of the menu to pick from. I had a really bad experience at the Bramalea City Centre location which made it my first and last visit at the location. Infact, the Oakville location was the exact opposite and had a great experience. I went at around 5pm which was perfect time because I didn't have to wait for a table and the service was fast. We were taken care by Emma, she was our server and thumbs up to her. We had ordered many different sushi, sashimi and grilled items. My favourite was the torched salmon with crispy tempura, crab, cucumber and avocado in it. I ended up ordering 2 of each!! The best part about this sushi place is the dessert. they have pretty good dessert choices specially the sponge cake and mango ice cream. I used to love this place. Used to. This place has gone down hill in terms of quality significantly over the past year. Kind of sad - we preferred August 8 over all options in the whole west gta/Mississauga area. The food is just 'meh' now. No thrills. The bad: At some point in time, August 8 boasted sashimi that would melt in your mouth. This time we had warm sashimi - huge turn off! They have an app called 'Eatata' that you can order straight off of as an alternative to iPad menus - which is neat, yes. However, their app lists 'Bonito tuna sashimi', which you won't find on the laminated menus they give you, and when we ordered it off the app, we were told they don't actually have any to serve. What? The 'meh': I get that you can't exactly expect 5-star quality when it comes to ordering cooked/grilled food/dim sum at sushi place, I understand. But compared to K&B or 168 Japan Buffet, it was terrible. The dim sum were puny and frozen. The only good thing about it was that they had a wider variety compared to its competitors. The tripe wasn't half bad though. Pretty close to the ginger tripe you would get at Chinese restaurants. As for desserts, there's no red bean, sesame or ginger. Only mango, green tea, chocolate, and vanilla. I will say however, their maki rolls are good. Good fish/rice ratio - just the right amount of rice to. Not to mention they have soft shell crab here. Overall, I think this marks end of August 8's era for me. The service was ok, but definitely not enough to make for the food. Disclaimer: I'm from Toronto so I've had my fair share of AYCE sushi and this isn't on par with the quality and variety I'm used to. There's nothing to write home about here. I've been here twice and both times I've been pretty disappointed with the food quality. My mother is strongly against coming here ever again when she's visiting me in Oakville. One of the big factors that drew me in was the dim sum menu. I was excited for the AYCE shrimp dumplings, tripe, and siu mai. My conclusion on the dim sum menu: don't bother if you're used to Markham/Richmond Hill dim sum. Most of it seems like it's been frozen, steamed, and then served. The shrimp isn't juicy and the siu mai is bland. The only good standout dim sum dishes were the chicken feet and the tripe. If you're into these dishes, you won't be as disappointed. The rolls are pretty good, but there are just not enough items I found interesting enough to keep trying. The only other item I re-ordered was the green tea ice cream and deep fried cheese wontons. Typically, when I go to an AYCE restaurant, I'm looking for variety in assorted food, and I didn't find it here. Overall, I would not recommend this place and would advise my own friends to strongly consider eating elsewhere because I didn't enjoy my AYCE visit 2 times in a row. The only thing I can commend August 8 for is their sushi party plate for take-out since their rolls are decent. Don't get baited by the dim sum, you'll be disappointed. read more
