If anything happens down the line, I'm certain that the folks at the store will still remember me and be plenty willing to help me out, which isn't the always the case everywhere you shop. We have an expensive flat-screen TV that we bought in 2010. It's a Toshiba Regza 46" (cost back then was more than $1000). I love it. The base is better than newer tvs because it's a lot more stable. It finally started getting quirky in 2020. I took it to Coughlin's and they were super attentive and fixed it for about $150 (cheaper than buying a new one). My spouse uses it and wanted something bigger but opted to keep the repaired and working Toshiba as a backup. We sure needed it. Bought an XBR800H Sony 55". I had it on, turned it off for a little while and turned it on but the screen was a light black and power was on. Thank goodness I remembered Coughlin's. Since the Sony is more of a computer than a tv, I didn't know if they'd be able to repair it. $175 a few days later and we have the what was a $600 tv working again. I loathe loathe loathe Sonys. I swore I'd never buy another decades ago. But I forgot ... This time, I told my spouse to remind me not to buy a Sony and I will be reminded if I touch another Sony again. But Coughlin's will be around to fix it when it stops working. I like the shop, the price, the dogs, the employees and the owners. It's funky old and fabulous. We had a great experience with Coughlin's…read more All the HDMI ports on our several years-old LG TV had stopped working. Knowing that most electronics are built with planned obsolescence, and that current similar TVs are much cheaper now than what we paid for ours, we wavered back and forth over trying to get it fixed or just buying a new one. I hate unnecessarily adding to landfills, so we decided to call Coughlin's. They were honest and upfront about everything from the start. They charged us a reasonable fee for pick-up and return, which would be applied towards the price of repair. They weren't able to find a new board for our older TV; Dan said he could try to fix the current board, but that there wasn't a 100% chance of success. Fortunately, they *were* able to fix it and get our HDMI ports working again. Yay! When they returned our TV they made sure that all the HDMI ports were working properly with our setup before they left. Hopefully this has added at least a couple of years to the life of our TV. Dan did say that when this particular set came out it was a top model. And they never tried to sell us a new set instead of trying to fix our old one. I appreciate their honesty and great service. We will definitely go back to them when we do need to finally replace our TV. Thank you!

At first I thought that maybe it was some kind of malware after letting my kid use it for his games. Within an hour of inspecting my laptop Andrew was not only able to find the cause (not malware after all), fix the issue so it's whisper quiet again, but somehow make my laptop run even smoother and better than before. 10/10 I am definitely using him again in the future!

I built a chicken coop. I refinished furniture. I plant a small garden every summer. I was going to Hackettstown to go to their Home Depot. I got lost at said Home Depot. I did not find answers there. I was a sad shell of a DIYer. When you go to Califon Lumber, you do not only get all of the same supplies you were looking for at Home Depot, but you get helped by some awesome neighbors who are legit knowledgeable and helpful. They will not only mix you paint but help you when you have questions about what kind of paint you need. They will walk you through what kind of lumber you need. They will help you find the small hardware you need for a project. I am surely a small customer for them-they have local contractors coming for pick ups while I'm there buying two small pieces of pine lumber for a furniture remodel-but they give me the time of day and then some. Shout out to delivery Dave. This man delivers all of the things. Stone gravel, a pallet of rock salt, a bunch of lumber. He is great. Thanks Dave. So why go to Home Depot? Lowes, too. Any of those places. I count Amazon in here as well, though I guess not having to put pants on to shop counts for something. I don't know why you would if you live in this area. Califon Lumber has everything you need at a hardware store, at BETTER prices (I've checked), without feeling like like you lost part of your soul while shopping-better yet feeling accomplished and like you made a purchase from some good, helpful friends. Califon Lumber is just another one of the amazing gems of this small town that surely doesn't exist in most of New Jersey. A perfect small town spot that I saved to review for my 300th Yelp review.
