I hardly ever port reviews, but for this Roast Beef sandwich, I had to. It's one of the best I've ever had

Yes the previous reviews indicate... Italian Beef is very subjective! As a former Chicagoan, my take is: 1) The meat is good quality and tender, but way underseasoned, not at all Italian. For me, the meat was not left in the "au jus" long enough as it was cold, and pink. Unlike an authentic Chicago Italian Beef sandwich. 2) I've never seen an Italian Beef place where the standard is to include cheese but the giardinara is an upcharge. (Do you get a discount if you don't want the cheese). 3) Let's talk texture. Meat is fine, the giardinara is very good, but mushy without any texture. You won't get any crunch from carrots like a traditional version. It is more of a chopped relish at Au Jus. Bread is mushy and doughy, no crisp/crunch. 3) Fries are hot, but not crisp. Fresh. The sandwiches can be dipped, but come with "au jus" - also somewhat unseasoned This is a new restaurant, where the ownership certainly has passion for their craft. I think over time they will improve - if their goal is to be as true as they can be with Chicago Italian Beef. I wouldn't drive cross town for this sandwich, but will certainly go back hoping for improvements.... for my taste! read more

fire time dining tonight picked up some sandwiches for the pair place did not disappoint! got 2 Italian beefs. 1 was mixed giardinera and 1 spicy both were solid toppings sandwich was huge, great flavor, and excellent au jus. Will absolutely be coming back again! read more

Because the owner shared his passion so much in a local community page, and we're from Chicago, we couldn't wait to try it. Four stars because one thing that was missing was giardiniera. I think the restaurant has since added peppers though, so that's great! Portions were HUGE. My husband and I split a large sandwich. The beef was perfect. You could taste the quality of the meat. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Absolutely going to be one of our favorites in 2023. read more

Good roast beef sandwich, but not an Italian beef. I was really looking forward to trying this place and finally got a chance to go. Clean place and the owner (I think) was at the counter taking orders. Very pleasant and patient. This is really a take out place, but we ate there at the wall-mounted counter. My wife and I each had a beef sandwich, no cheese and no giardiniera--I got my sandwich dipped the way it should be. We also got a bag of fries which were good. The good: the beef is tender and tasty with a peppery bite. The bread was fresh with the correct chewy, glossy crust that keeps the soggy mess together. The sandwich comes with a cup of au jus which was flavorful and not to oily or salty. Throw some cheese and onions in there and it would be a good stand in for a cheese steak. Or cheese and horseradish sauce would be good. The bad (or disappointing): if you're looking for an authentic Chicago-style Italian beef, this isn't it. I so desperately wanted it to be as it's missing from the Cleveland scene. First, there was no hint of Italian seasoning on the beef. So it's just a really good roast beef--yes, there is a difference. Second, the beef is sliced too thickly. It's thin by any standard, but a real beef sandwich is sliced paper thin. The thickness tends to present as dry beef and too chewy. And the beef should be resting in the juices to ensure it's tender and moist. Third, the bread is close, but not there yet. The bread is usually what kills all attempts to match the Chicago classic. This one has the right crust, but the bread is too doughy--it needs to be lighter and airier so that the Italian seasonings and beef flavor shine through. It's too far for me to go for just a roast beef sandwich. I'd expect that anything else off the menu is delicious. If you're in the mood for roast beef to take home, go for it! It's just not the Italian beef of my dreams. read more

Had the Italian beef with spicy sausage. The amount of beef on the sandwich for the $ is well worth it. Had the onion rings too, very tasty & cooked perfect. I would suggest some type of onion ring dipping sauce. Will try again in the future for something else to try on the menu. read more

Ordered large Italian beef sandwich with no cheese. Absolutely delicious! One of the best Italian beef sandwiches I've had. Very large sandwich with a very generous amount of meat. I ordered an extra cup of au jus and it was the perfect amount. It's my favorite in Chicago and this will be my go to local place. 1st try: reg Italian beef with sausage. French fries, side of giardenaira. Set up primarily to be a takeout spot, Au Jus has a small dining and wait area and seems to be bustling with orders and activity. I think it's sometimes hard to judge a restaurant on one visit and a couple items but I think they may be onto something here for "as-close-to" a Chicago style beef, Cleveland can offer. For those native to Chicago, some little differences you may notice; giardenaira does not come standard on each sandwich and is an extra cost. However small a difference it's still extra. Bread is not the standard shape and size but it's huge, fresh and holds up to the au jus. The beef is on point. Not sure what they're using but don't change a thing. No way it's restaurant depot. Au Jus is flavorful and compliments without overpowering the sandwich. They extra piece of sausage was a nice surprise before I lapsed into a coma. Some small things to update; the amount of giardenaira on the side isn't not really enough for the whole sandwich. For $1.10 there was 1tbsp....I mean, come on man. The french fries need some work. They are fresh cut and fresh fried however, the packaging may have resulted in a very soggy fry. I had one before I walked out so it wasn't the ride. The amount of fry and crisp is more likely the problem. I don't think a second fry method was used. That might not matter as keeping french fries Crisp in a to-go business is not an easy task, . I hope they become a Parma Staple. Based on the foot traffic I saw in the hour I was there they should be on their way. Not Italian beef at all. way to spicy with pepper and garlic. sorry guys was really hoping for some real Chicago style Beef . when I saw the cheese included, I started to wonder what is this? Now I know why omg the pepper made my mouth burn ,the garlic over powered any real sweet Italian seasonings. more like Mexican food, not Italian beef. if you want hot you can add the peppers and juice on top. Good meat, nice bread, service . The fries were good but absolutely no taste to them. The juice {gravy is so dark } more like a French flavor than actual Italian . Tried this place about a month ago ordered 2 beef sandwich sandwiches they put pork on the sandwich and when I got home I bite into the sandwich and it had pork sausage in it we don't eat pork and I called them to tell them I didn't eat pork and they told me to return the sandwich and they would replace it when I returned the sandwiches to them the cashier said that he had to speak to the owner and he came back and said that was what I ordered and they weren't going to replace the sandwiches. I tried to plead with them to at least give me the sandwiches I ordered originally but was told to leave the premises. I left the sandwiches on the counter and left I will never give them any more of my money they stole 32.40 from me and treated me very bad. read more

The Chicago Italian Beef was super salty and the au jus, although peppery as it should be, had a bitterness that was unexpected. The Sicilian was peculiar - mixing olives with mayo. The parking lot is easy to enter but difficult to exit - you have to back onto the sidewalk to turn around or back into the street. read more

Only been there once (just finished it) and it was extremely good! Small place with a steady stream of customers on a Friday night. You can see the entire kitchen and looked to be very clean. We will be back soon. Got the regular Italian with provolone but want to try another selection read more

This place has great potential to become extremely successful. The freshness of the food was sensational. However the sausage sandwich lacked flavor in both the sausage and the peppers. I feel as if they tried to hide the lack of flavor behind sauce and TOO MUCH cheese. I also decided to try the pressed Philly sandwich which was FANTASTIC. Sadly I forgot to order a side of Au Jus which probably would've made it 10/10. the meat was seasoned to perfection. The fries however could use a lil longer in the fryer WAY TOO SOGGY. You can tell this restaurant has the passion and craft to become a successful business. I will be looking forward to eating here again in the future read more
