When you want a real Italian beef sandwich with the absolute best au jus.... Go to Au Jus!!!! This little shop in the middle of a small strip mall is the absolute best. The meat is tender, juicy, hot and perfectly seasoned. I added sauced mushroom and provolone cheese and was more than pleased. The bread is fresh, and perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside. But I have never had an au jus like theirs! It was hot, beautifully seasoned and heavy with black pepper. To top it off top it all off, the portion of meat will leave you full, satisfied and wanting another sandwich... tomorrow. read more

Consider this a rave review. I ordered Italian beef with sweet peppers, provolone, sautéed onion and a side of Au Jus. This sandwich is first of all, absolutely massive, and still came with enough Au jus to accommodate. This is the best sandwich I've had in recent memory. Absolutely nailed it. I was shocked to see that it wasn't 5 star reviews across the board, and after reading negative reviews let me just say this. 1. - I'm not taking advice from a dude who says things like "the help was antiseptic" ...... 2. Some of the things people complained about seem to have already been addressed w/r to food prep 3. The pricing is completely reasonable for a small local business serving high quality ingredients and 4. Yes there is almost no seating but the owners were wise to select an affordable storefront for this business. I think you guys are absolutely crushing it. The roast beef sandwich wasn't that good, we were expecting 'WOW'. It was awfully salty and when you dipped it, it became even saltier. The fries were greasy, like they fried them twice and as if the oil was t hot enough. And they were doused in salt!! We could just taste salt, like straight from the shaker. Very good takeout place if you want Chicago-style Italian meat sandwiches. There is limited seating, so I recommend takeout. We got the Italian meat with provolone and the Italian with sausage, onion rings, and battered pickles. We also got a side of Spicy Giardiniera. The regular sizes are still on the larger side. We enjoyed everything, but we might change our next order to only include the beef sandwiches (the beef holds up on its own). The onion rings were nice and crispy. A note on the Giardiniera: the spicy version is actually REALLY spicy. I'd order here again. read more

The negative reviews are absolutely ridiculous because they haven't even tried the food here. I've now been here three times and each time has been fantastic. I have had the Italian beef with sausage, the Sicilian and the Cuban. This is silly and might be one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and it comes with capers and a type of a lemon basil aïoli, which is so good on the sandwich. I know they are changing their hours because of the demand for lunch so ignore the negative reviews who haven't even bothered to taste the food. I also recommend the onion rings because they are fantastic, fresh, and they fill a bag for you, this place is brand new and I can already see that when I was just here they were packed and that's a good thing. I can only hope that they bring one of these closer to where I live in Lakewood. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to coming back. read more

While visiting our old neighborhood (i.e. currently reside in Mentor area), we decided to try Au Jus. What a GREAT DECISION. Firstly, the place is remarkably clean. Secondly, Jacob, the owner, greeted us and both he and his staff treated us like we were family. Thirdly, and most importantly, the food was SPECTACULAR. My wife and I shared a Hot Beef, Cuban and fries. The food was so good and was reasonably priced, compared to the prices we pay at any of the chain sub sandwich shops. The only regret is that Au Jus doesn't have a Mentor / Painesville Township location.....yet. Thanks Jacob...guess we will be visiting our old neighborhood a lot more in the future! read more

Just tried this place tonight. A pressed Philly and some spicy giardinera. I was not impressed. It was barely warm after my less than 5min drive home. It was near tasteless as well. The giardinera is $1.10 and it's about a spoonfuls worth. The sandwich itself was $10.50. A bit pricey for the size. Should probably be more around $8. I'll give them another chance because they're new. I'll try a different sandwich and see what's what. If it's subpar. Won't be back. read more

After finishing "The Bear" on Hulu, I had to get my hands on an Italian beef sandwich. This was my first time trying Au Jus. Not the most picturesque just by the nature of the meal but ordered an Italian beef sandwich with provolone and added sweet peppers. First off, the regular size was huge. Only ate 1/2. Food was incredibly fresh. I also ordered the fried pickles. I loved them, but my sister (who I split them with) didn't care for them because of the batter. I saw on Facebook that they make their own pickles from cucumbers they pick from their garden and I really appreciate that level of attention and care towards ingredients. I put my order in online and it was ready to be picked up 10 minutes later. Overall, great experience- will order here and try a new item next time. And just because I know you may be wondering, personally, my sandwich tasted better than the infamous Chicago chain that starts with a P; plus I feel better about supporting a local business. read more

Being from CHI, I was excited to see an Italian Beef place in Cleveland. The beef itself tasted pretty good and the portion was quite large. Thats where the good stuff ends. The bread was entirely too large and not very tasty. A longer but narrower roll is much preferred. You cant dip a sandwich thats 6" wide into a 2" cup. No way to get your mouth around this thing. Second....charging for giardiniera? Really? $1 plus to throw seasoning on there? Every IB sandwich normally comes with this. Third....Ordered pretty quickly when I went in but waited about 12 minutes for the meal. It was a little busy though and they were working hard but kept calling out names of people who ordered by app or phone and were not there. Get a rack like Jersey Mikes, put in there and be done with it. Last - He asked me if I wanted the fries crispy and I said yes since I read previous reviews. They were mushy at best. Any review less than 5 stars is crazy. The beef itself was delicious. The hot peppers were spicy but not hot enough to rip your face off. The beef had at least twice the amount of meat that would come on a beef at Al's or Mr. Beef IN CHICAGO. Additionally, I've never had cheese included w/ one previously so that threw me off - so i ordered w/o it. were i to go back I'd make sure to order w/ the giardiniera. the pro's: - the beef is delicious. it is for this reason, alone, that i'd definitely go back. sincerely delicious beef. - the bread, i though, was the perfect roll for the beef. i read others thought it was too much. meh, seemed right to me. - staff was friendly look, i'm sorry. my review doesn't really seem to indicate that i enjoyed the food.
