I ate at Aldo's yesterday for an early dinner with my friend Barb. I ordered the beef tenderloin funghetto. Funghetto are mushrooms. They were fresh and not rubbery. The beef tenderloin was tender and delicious. The funghetto is in a sauce with tomatoes and herbs on top of the tenderloin. Aside of the tenderloin was gently sautéed fresh broccoli, green and red peppers as well as yellow squash and carrots. Also included was a side of spaghetti in a tasty marinara sauce. I had the house salad with traditional dressing of oil and vinegar. I would only advise with the crunchy bread to be a little more generous. With three small pieces my friend knows I want more than two so she gets a little upset when I take two. I did ask for more bread though and Matteo brought it. Thank you Matteo! I met Aldo, the original owner long ago so we have been dining here a long time. My friend Barb said her parents used to bring her to Aldo's at the holidays and her birthdays when she was younger. This is a place that is near and dear to my husband. His father would frequent this restaurant when the original owner was alive. The current owner did everything he could to understand my food allergies and make me something that I could eat. My husband had the spaghetti with meatball and fried calamari, he was happy. The place is small and quaint. You would be fooled from the outside, it wouldn't seem that there was an actual restaurant inside. I find this a common theme to many of the Italian Restaurants I've visited. They have many great dishes on their menu. It's worth the visit. This time served in a casserole dish two lasagna noodles filled with barely no meat and topped with lots of melted cheese lots of sauce. This was not their usual several layers of noodles meat and cheese (ricotta) served on a plate. It seemed like the lasagna was not ready, but they served me and my guests This awful dish of noodles sauce and melted cheese. What happened Aldo's? Is this your new Italian lasagna?Anyone going to Aldo's Italian restaurant should either go somewhere else or not order the lasagna. Delicious...authentic family run restaurant in Old Brooklyn. A staple for more than a few decades, Aldo's is a tradition of excellent service and amazing food and drink. We stopped in tonight for a small birthday dinner. The tables were full, thankfully we made a reservation in advance. The menu is vast, the specials were larger than the regular menu and it was amazing. We started with salads and fresh bread, and shrimp scampi. The salad dressing was full of garlicy goodness. The entrees, I do not think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The linguini with seafood was so fresh and delicious. The scampi were huge, the pasta was fresh and light. Everything we ordered was delicious, even down to the house made desserts. Don't let the exterior shopping plaza fool you, the food was incredible and service was impeccable. read more

I had to stop bringing my family there due to the owners imposing tendency to insert himself and his views into our family conversation. We have been here multiple times. Usually leaving glowing reviews. Came on a Friday with a party of four. First Friday of Kent so looking for some good seafood choices. They had some great choices. We started with calamari and frog legs. Asked for the app got charged for the dinner. 35 minutes until we saw our first drink and One hour and 10 minutes before we saw an app. I think there was only one waitress and she had a bus girl. The place was only half full (it's not a big place). Our entrees took respectively long as well. Our water got filled quickly where you would wait 20-30 minutes for a drink from the bar. I would NOT recommend seafood here. It was all just ok. Definitely not deserving the price tag. All taste fine but didn't look like $40 plates or taste like them. In closing, four people, bottle of wine, two apps, four dinners, one bourbon, three deserts and an espresso $360 before tip. No itemized receipt and no signature required?? Absolutely terrible service. We went to Aldo's a few weeks back, we walked in to the restaurant which had about 5 tables free. We stood at the hostess stand for 10 minutes while the woman presumably "in charge" completely ignored us and took care of everything except us. She seemed bothered to have to seat us so we left and won't go back. There are lots of places to go and support and spend money, why do it at a place that treats customers this way. read more

I didn't find it fantastic as other reviewers. Bread was good. The salad served with the meal was small and nothing special. I expected more flavor in the light sauce. What we found most off putting was the owner. His odd interactions with the young staff. He was condescending towards them. The servers seemed better when he was around. The seafood antipasto meal was okay, nothing to brag about as it is really simply boil the seafood right and dump them in olive oil and lemon juice. The VEAL is TERRIBLE. It's like a minced veal burger instead of a actual veal steak. No one should go there for that cheap crap and pay 25 bucks. What saved this place are the deserts. The pistachio gelato was on par with the best I have had in Italy. Tiramisu was on point! (Even better than presti's) and the other one we ordered was great as well! I have high standards when it comes to Italian food. I've had Italian food the two times I went to Italy, and Italian is my favorite food to cook (manicotti, baked ziti, stuffed shells, lasagna, and of course spaghetti) The food was just okay. Nothing to write home about. Kind of bland in my opinion. The prices compared to other, better quality Italian restaurants was markedly higher, so I expected better tasting food so I did not like that. However, the Limoncello cake was delicious. The owner came to my table and spoke with us, which normally would be a great thing. However, he came over praising Trump and how great a president he was, how the recount in Arizona will prove Trump was right and how he was happy Trump was in Ohio this past weekend. He even said Trump deserves to be on Mount Rushmore next to Lincoln. As a veteran, I cannot separate the former president from the events on January 6th at the very least (not going to mention all I disagreed with). That was uncalled for and unprofessional. We have recently discovered this amazing little gem of a Italian restaurant in Brooklyn . When we pulled up the outside looked very generic but inside is the cutest place we've been in along time. With all the photos from the mother land ( Italy ) to the old school finishes on the walls it seemed like we were in a quaint little restaurant in Italy. From the freshest coldest crispest salad with the homemade dressing was to die for. When the warm bread came let me say WOWZA !! Smear butter on it and then insert..... for the first time I went traditional with pasta and meatballs and boy those meatballs were delicious and tender. I washed it down with a generous glass of chianti and for dessert I added a piece of tiramisu. Photo included. My wife and I are going to make this amazing restaurant a regular stop for us. We went to Aldo's after reading the great reviews. There were 6 of us. The waiter came to the table to take our drink order. Out of 2 wines I asked for no bud light. The apps were great. Mushrooms stuffed with veal, mussels in marinara, the calamari was chewy! My daughter ordered the chicken parmigiana and asked for the sauce to come on the side. Park came out with sauce on it! She told the waiter and the owner comes over and starts badgering her that sauce on the side means extra sauce in his mind and argues with the whole table about the order and he's out 24 bucks! Yeah...this is the good stuff. Went here with a group of co-workers on our monthly food adventure. I always get to choose, and this was a no-brainer! Old-school Italian food served in a warm, friendly atmosphere. The owner greeted us enthusiastically and checked in on us regularly. I had heard good things about their lasagna, so I decided to give it a try for lunch. Our meals came with a really nice salad with house made Italian dressing and shredded mozzarella cheese on top. The lasagna came out in a piping hot crock covered in melty cheese. After I let the molten concoction cool a bit, it was time to dig in. The dish was really good with a slightly tangy and sweet red sauce atop layers of noodles, cheese and meat. The bread (served in a basket) was warm and delicious (especially dunked in the red sauce). Several of my co-workers were tempted to order from the amazing dessert tray brought to the table after our meal. I resisted, but later they all commented how wonderful their treats were. This place is a such a hidden gem. It's small and cozy. I wouldn't find out about this place if it weren't for my high school teacher knowing the owner (and I think most people come here because someone they know recommend it, not because of wide spread advertisement). Service, food, and wine selection are great. My most favorite items are their linguini special and capellini alla primavera con gamberi. I love all their dessert items but the chocolate mouse is the best. (Their dessert menu changes so you might wanna check what is available for the day). I ordered the chicken parm and felt opposite with the food and ambiance. very full when we left but my personal opinion is I wish the space wasn't so cramped and that their chicken was better. The last couple of times I have frequented this restaurant, the owner has taken it upon himself to discuss politics. I get it, everyone has their preference and opinion but mixing and preaching politics or religion is un-professional and can kill a great business in a minute. No one wants you sitting at the table to hear you preach what you think is right. Keep it short and sweet. Keep it out of the work place. If you love fine Italian food, there's only a few places in CLE worth visiting outside Little Italy. Aldo's makes that list of the few. Very tiny - seats maybe 25, and the decor may be a little dated - but it's all sentimental and family related, so we'll let that slide. Service is so personal and family like. Can't say enough about the whiteboard full of specials (take a pic with your phone - you'll never remember all of them!). Never had anything even close to sub par here. Our high school hockey team (University of Detroit Jesuit High School) was in town to play Cleveland St. Ignatius this weekend . We researched a place to dine our team of 22 players and 3 coaches. I worked with Matteo for a week in advance of this date. Our team was greeted by a very friendly staff who worked hard to serve our boys. The food was exceptional and the Aldo's staff ensured we were able to get in and out in a very timely manner. We were extremely impressed. We highly recommend Aldo's. read more
