I am sad just to discover this place as I begin my move to St. Louis! What a wonderful, unassuming little restaurant with amazing food, a very credible and unassuming wine list, and a great selection. I had a fantastic glass of Chianti with my alio e olio, a very simple pasta dish that few get right. It's deceivingly simple to make. But they nailed it. I asked for extra garlic, and it was so fragrant I enjoyed eating it before it even got to the table. They saute real garlic in angel hair pasta with the right amount of olive oil. Just wonderful. The Parmesan was just ok, but still a great dish. They serve fresh bread with every meal that is warm and absolutely delicious. We also had the garlic bread cheese that's served with a red sauce for dipping. Just wonderful. The tiramisu was fantastic, not dry. Their menu is fantastic, and their prices are incredibly low! Great price-point. This is a must-go-to if you're anywhere near Lorain Ave on the West Side of Cleveland, Oh. I shall miss your culinary delights! read more

First visit. New to the area and was in search of a local decent Italian restaurant. Walked in on a Saturday night fairly early (5:30) and our party of 4 was seated immediately. Fairly small place it was active enough. A no-frills neighborhood kinda place. Our party had the veal parm, veal Marsala, lasagna and a pizza. All the food was good. Very decent sized portions for the price. The pizza was ok, I prefer a thinner crust. Had a glass of house Chianti with dinner that was just ok. Service was decent enough, friendly and casual. Fine Italiano! My brother found these guys on google & other than being near the der Brau I didn't know anything about them. Cleveland is easy free street parking there 4-7 and always after 6 anyway as u know. so I park on Lorain & use the bar entrance. In fact we've only sat at the bar bc I've mostly been in a sweatshirt & they don't mind. I'm not positive but it seems like a big happy family running & working the place. Had the pizza first time and it was good & thick crust. Bro has the rigatoni & meatballs & he just loved it. So I had that today $12 or so. comes w 2 meatballs & everything was perfect. The sauce is piping hot and so good it just stands out. Reminds me of the sauce when I was a kid in Erie. Rigatoni was tender & just so easy to eat. Simple dish but so so good! Fresh bread to mop up the sauce. A+. Chicken parm I had on another visit, see pic. Giant pounded breast breaded just right, baked on cheese covered w the sauce. Fantastic. A big portion w the side spaghetti & I added meatball but again so easy to smash it! Great hockey man dinner & cant beat the price $14 or so. Maybe I'll sit in the dining room. So we've been coming to Caffe Roma's for a few years now. The atmosphere is really warm and cozy. The service is always good. My only "complaint" is the mozzarella sticks were very "chewy"...but my daughter eats refrigerated string cheese anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. Our entrees were very good though. The food is well portioned. I couldn't finish it all. They also have a full sit down bar, if you wanna enjoy an adult beverage. Parking can be a bit of an issue. People tend to park behind you (double park) so if you don't wanna risk being blocked in, I suggest parking on the side street. If you're looking for a nice little authentic Italian restaurant, this establishment is a wonderful choice. It's very clean. Peaceful. The service is really well. Staff was friendly and food came out quick. I've wanted to come here for years and was so disappointed in the quality of food and taste. The mozzarella sticks were not fresh as we seen them come out a bag to the fryer and when served was warm not hot. The chicken in the chicken parmigiana was over cooked drenched in sauce and cheese. It's lacked flavor and was only warm. The spaghetti with meatballs had a weird texture and once again lack of flavor and only warm. All the food did not taste freshly made and even if the service was fast it was awkward that it all came out warm. The pizza was ok but once again the sauce had a weird taste. None of the food was eatable for us and ended up paying for a dinner we just couldn't eat and ended up leaving it. One of the best kept secrets on the West Side, this unpretentious family owned gem serves classic Italian dishes in a cozy, intimate setting. The owners are an older couple who hail from Italy who have been harnessing time honored recipes since the restaurant's inception. I have been frequenting Cafe Roma since 2006 and it has definitely stood the test of time! On my most recent visit - a cold snowy February day - I walked in and sat at a table across from the bar. They have an extensive wine and alcohol selection, so if you need a little something to help you wind down, you're in good shape! My server was very prompt and took my order right away. I opted for a bowl of pasta fagioli and a plate of Spaghetti Putanesca. Complementary fresh bread was served and comes with butter. The soup was a tasty blend of cannellini beans with carrots and pasta in a rich broth! The puttanesca was an outstanding red sauce of olives, capers, and anchovies... nothing fishy about that. I've drove past this place many times and out of curiosity and hunger I decided to stop by. I ordered the calamari appetizer and the primavera pasta. Honestly I wasn't thrilled, the calamari stinked that day, and the pasta was flavorless. I did have a peice of the chicken parm my partner had and it was tremendous. Maybe I will order something else next time I visit, it could've been a bad day. The staff's service is great and they're nice people it seems. My husband and I have Friday Night Dinner with my mother each week and we went to Yelp to point us in the right direction...AND did they ever. Our server was great, very attentive and always checking in. We started with a few glasses of wine, soup and three HEARTY appetizers. We went on to order three entrees and never expected to finish everything but we managed. The pasta fagiol and Italian wedding soups were homemade, just like Nona would make. The garlic bread was so soft and full of flavor, especially with the addition of warm marinara. We also had mozzarella sticks and two-dozen mussels, the tomato broth was so good, I had to sopp it up with garlic bread! My mother loved her eggplant parmigiana with spaghetti, oozing with fresh provolone! My husband went basic too, chicken parmigiana with fresh cavatelli! I chose the seafood linguini, shrimp, clams, mussels and octopus in a red sauce with garlic! Our meals were delicious! Took 25 min for pasta and calamari. The owner mean mugged me and walked by the front and back of my car in the lot multiple times and this was really disconcerting as a small female. The calamari was fine. The pasta carbonara was Alfredo fettuccini with small hunks of bacon on top and was nothing special at all whatsoever. My total was $25 which is pretty outrageous. While waiting on an overly busy waitress to pay for my food, the owner walked around multiple times again without stopping to help me even though he looked at me several times and was two feet away. This Chicken Parmesan was literally THE BEST Chicken Parmesan I have ever had! My husband and I live around the corner and decided let's put an order in... I'm so glad we did! The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful, they sent an entire loaf of bread with 2 To Go meals, and the portions were perfect! We got to choose our sauce and pasta, I got Chicken Parm with Angel Hair Pasta and Arrabbiata Sauce... it had a little kick, savory and just SO Good! Hubs got the same with Penne. This is a hidden treasure , I ate hear about 8 years ago and it was great then . The food is very good nice pasta sauce is old school flavors at its best I had the Veal Picata The lemony sauce with the capers , and the tender Veal excellent. I had banana Peppers stuffed with spicy Italian sausage great flavor . Nice and clean establishment with a variety of beers and wines . The price very reasonable and they follow all the COVID guidelines . I'm gonna start being a regular here come and check em out they deserve the business putting out food like this . My husband and I ordered takeout on Saturday. He got the lasagna, I got the ricotta stuffed penne pasta with meat sauce and an added meatball and an added piece of sausage. We got the cheesy garlic bread and a tossed salad. Everything was delicious! There was plenty of it. The salad was big enough to share. We are right down the block from this restaurant so it was nice to be so close! We walked the dog as we went, and I waited outside with the dog while my husband went in to get our food. Caffe Roma is a delicious option for Italian food. It doesn't look like much from the outside and is modest on the inside, but their food is tasty. Their sauces are flavorful, portions are incredibly generous, and I've never disliked anything I've had here. My boyfriend's Italian family even orders from here which is how I decided to try. I would normally take a white sauce over red any day but it's a tough decision every time I order Caffe Roma. Both are delicious, flavorful, and real deal. read more

I've only had their pizza. And it was delicious. Excellent ingredients. Nothing fake about this pizza! Real mozzarella cheese. The cheese actually stretches as you teka bite. Sauce is wonderful tasting too. Tastes like a pizza is supposed to taste. I'll go back for their sit-in service and try something else. read more

My husband and I live just down the street from Cafe Roma. We have been coming here almost since they opened. We've been here many times, brought our friends and grown children here and no one has EVER had a bad meal here. The Chicken Marsala is to die for, but my favorite dish is the Chicken Parmesan which I order with cavatelli with meat sauce every time. The sauce is not sharp but has a wonderfully mild and tasty flavor. This is the only Chicken Parmesan that does not have that really thick crusty coating on it, which overwhelms the taste of the chicken. This is made with a light coating of breadcrumbs (you get two pieces of chicken with cheese on top) so you can taste the flavorful and tender chicken. My husband loves their spaghetti with Italian Sausage which he likes with their marinara sauce. The food is home cooked, the owners are from Italy and who better to know Italian cuisine. The service is always fast, the servers are so nice and the prices are lowest of any Italian restaurant we've been to. The restaurant is housed in a turn of the century building on the corner of W. 130th Street and Lorain Ave, with high carved ceilings. We always feel like we came home to grandma's for dinner. I have lived on the West side of Cleveland for 28 years, Im a HUGE fan of Italian food and I have never heard of this place, a friend recommended so I gave it a try tonight. I'll start with the posiives, the servers were supernice. the wine pour was very generous and their prices are inexpensive compared to other places i.e. Bucci's, Bruno's, Stino's, Luca's.. but in all honesty, I dont feel they are in the same class given location and atmosphere but they do hold their own for what you get. I ordered the lasagna after probing my server for recommendations and I did warn her that I consider myself a lasagna biggot. it was just OK, sauce was good not great, right amount of cheese but the pasta was way over cooked/soggy and not nearly enough meat layered in. The link of sausage I got on the side was outstanding! The bread was pretty doughy I didn't love it but again, my meal with the sausage and complimentary bread was a whopping $17 so an overall good value and better than average experience. One last comment, the parking is crazy, they have a sign in the lot telling you to double park so I got blocked in and had to have the bartender hunt down the owner of the car behind me to let me out. read more

The 3 stars is mostly for the help. I wanted to just love this mom and pop Italian restaurant, and I did, but for the help, not the food. My fiance and I just purchased a house in Jefferson/West Park area. We wanted to celebrate after the closing at a random spot near our house, so we picked Caffe Roma. We walk in, and the help is instantly there for you. We were seated and instantly helped by our waitress. She was very young but you could tell she really liked her job. It was the middle of the week so they weren't busy. It seems the place gets a lot of regulars that have been coming to the restaurant for many many years. I order a red sauce dish and my fiance ordered the carbonara. He'd never had it before, but I described it to him and he was super excited to get his dish. We ordered a side of garlic bread and marinara ($2.00-$3.00 for like 6 large pieces, what a steal!). It was good. The sauce was super sweet. It didn't scream "homemade" but I liked it otherwise. The pasta dishes arrived. Good prices for the amount of food, that's for sure. I wasn't particular in love with my dish. I found myself drenching the pasta with parmesan to give it more flavor. The carbonara tasted like noodles with butter. That's it. I was expecting so much more. I don't want to hate on the place, because it's a great little spot on the West Side. The help was fantastic, but the food was just sub par for me. I probably won't find myself here again any time soon, but it wasn't a horrible dinner. The worst time ever had at a restaurant in my life . We sat at a table where wait staff picked up food from kitchen nobody came to our table to take our order. We waited over a half an hour to take our orders and that was only due to a mdmber of our party asking for someone to wait on us, finally we got someone to take our orders a table of 3. We ordered salads with our meals and i ordered a salad with house dressing on it and cheese when salad arrived i went to begin to eat it and moved some of the cheese away and noticed the lettuce was brown moved some more of the cheese topping and all the lettuce was all brown i asked the wait staff to take it back it was all brown lettuce shd responded that is because that is how it is sereved dressing makes it brown i tiold her to take it back and she kept insisting it is the way it is i then told her then you eat it she took it back and asked me would i like another salad like the other two people i was with and i said yes and ordered it with ranch dressing this salad lettuce was not brown our meals finally came and with my first bite i found a hair in my food I was so hungry i resolved not to tell the waitress after the salad ordeal. Ate the dinner which i found acceptable not the best but not the worst meal. I would suggest if you plan to visit this restaurant to re think your plans. Do the vinyl tableclothes and casual bar make it look like you should expect a gourmet salad? No, it screams iceberg. So why would you order it and then Complain about it? I got takeout on Christmas eve--the eggplant parm was the standout, in fact the best I've had, very flavorful and not full of breading like most others. The chicken piccata was very good, tender, with an elegant capered lemon sauce. The lasagna was just average, on the dry side. Will be back again for more eggplant parm and chicken piccata. This is how Italian cooking should be! Sauces are absolutely fantastic. Everything is home made here and they use no garlic on the sauces and no ricotta on lasagna just how it should be! Place is simple, not big but the food is fantastic. Staff is really friendly and I do disagree with all the other reviews saying the opposite.
