Bought a bike the first round it needed to back in the shop. It stayed in the shop, because they were to busy selling new bikes instead of supporting the one I just bought. Instead of troubleshooting the issue and go through the warranty with Kona to address it they rather just refund the money. If you want post sales support don't go to ATX bikes. They are very friendly and prior to having the issue with the hydraulic brake breaking, and the disk rotors dragging the calipers I was happy with them, but once the bike was in the shop, they did not perform as would be expected. First, they changed out the brake handle to a different model, so the bike now had two different brake levers, this is on a bike that that I just, bought. The repair took longer than they first said, so it sat in their shop for a number of days before I saw it, when I saw that it had two different model brake levers I told them that I would expect to get the same model brake levers on both sides, so then they ordered a new brake handle. I had also it'd them that the break rotor was dragging and touching the calipers. The bike was in there for another week, and when I came back to pick it up, the rotors were still dragging. They changed out the rotors, but it was still dragging, it seemed like I had to be there for the to actually troubleshoot the issue, I got frustrated with them and they gave me a full refund, which is good. The price was good for the bike, so if you get a bike there maybe you can take it to a better store like Ozone for repairs. For me I prefer to deal with shops who not only can sell bikes, but support them, and get repairs done right and on time. read more

Took mountain bike for a rear Fox shock repair. Post repair it was performing incorrectly in a different way. I had suspicions and mentioned the initial repair made it worse. Brett and George made it right by sending the shock back to Fox for repair. A $100+ repair which they covered the cost, except for labor. I call that great service! Frank is the new man running the operation and he is excellent. He and the shop have worked on 5 of my family's bikes and I always received knowledgeable service and a good deal, too. Like all bike shops it seems nowadays, there can be a little backup on full tune-ups, but 80% of the time they take the time to do adjustments for me while I wait or get it back to me same day if I can drop it off in the morning. We have purchased two bikes through ATX and Frank's ability to do professional fitting right in the store with his GURU was very nice icing. He is a great guy, an asset to the store and I hope he keeps running it for a long time. read more

I was very pleased with both the service and the final price I received at ATX Bikes. I took my boy's bikes there and was expecting an estimate of around $100+ for both. Brett gave me an estimate of around $60, but then came in at $48! He also told me to anticipate about a 5 day turn around but then called me the next day to say they were ready. This is exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood bike shop- friendly people who know what they are talking about. My first trip in I was greeted and helped out right off the bat, I got to test ride a few bikes and felt really comfortable asking questions and not being put down. Just bought a bike there. During the shopping an purchase process they were laid back, provided opinions without being pushy and helped explain the different tradeoffs. Even more important, after the purchase the service has been great. As I think is typical with a new bike, things stretch as you start riding harder and they have been patient with providing explanations of what is going on and keeping things in tune. They typically stop what they are doing to fix things in real time. I had once adjusted my rear shock (not knowing that this was not possible without a pump) - he let me take a pump with me and come back to pay as I had come straight off a ride and did not have a wallet. I'm sorry to say, I don't trust these guys with repairs or even tune-ups. Drive downtown to a shop that has more traffic and whose employees thereby have more experience. I wish these guys were up to the job. I brought in a Cannondale mountain bike -- a brand they sell -- to put on a new tire and check out the brake. The shifting worked impeccably before I dropped the bike off. I decided I might as well have them to a full tune up. Well? When I picked the bike up, the shifting was a disaster. The chain jumped back and forth between rear chainrings. So I asked them to re-adjust it. And then the chain wouldn't shift in the front from the small ring to the large ring properly because it either would fall back down or because it would go too far and lock up. So I asked them to re-adjust it... and they kind of did. But I had given up hope, and it was the end of the day, so I didn't ask them to give it a fourth try. At this point, they had failed three times to get the shifting back to work as it had before I gave them the bike! In the process of their encore attempts, they said I needed to buy a new derailleur hanger and new cables (which I didn't). And they said they couldn't adjust it any more with the limit screw. But after I inspected it at home, I realized the limit screw had stripped -- which happens when the derailleur is adjusted without downshifting to remove the tension on the device. Was it stripped by their clumsy attempts? I can't know for sure. But with the other details from this experience? I hope to never go back. The only answer is Austin Tricyclist, including for mountain bikes. I'm sorry for this review, ATX! read more

This review is not based on a one time visit. It is based on a true experience from start to finish. In 2015 I picked up mountain biking and became a true fan of this awesome sport! I was riding a 400.00 hard tail when I started and rode it till the beginning of 2017. It was time for a upgrade! Ugghh...hard to shop for something you do not know much about. All I knew is that I want a real bike that I could keep for 5 to 10 years. I was willing to go to the top to get carbon material and dual suspension. This made my search even more intimidating since I was gonna be spending some real money on my next bike. I started my research online but quickly decided that I needed a real person to feel like I was being guided towards the right decision. This is when I met the very friendly, intelligent, laid back employees of ATX Bikes. Frank, Brandon, Reece, and Tim are the guys! From beginning to end I always felt like I was working with a guide and NOT a salesperson. I never felt uncomfortable and felt like every question I had was answered with truth and honesty. On top of that, once I found the bike that I wanted, I received a better deal through ATX Bikes that what I would have online!! Surprising I know!! Anyway, I could not have asked for a better way to purchase my new bike. I feel like it was meant to go down the way it did and I am one happy guy! Today, my bike is living the dream with me! Rides like a comfortable beast and could not have been happier with the choice I made. If your looking for a way to buy your next bike, I would strongly recommend you take the same path I did. I love the location and the people who work there are great. But so are most employees at bike shops. The selection of bikes suck. They only have the cheap upper class bikes. I bought a tube for my bike. It was the lowest quality of tube I have ever seen. It didnt have a nut to secure the stem and the tube was twisted up. I thought for 5 bucks it should be quality. Come on guys quality over making money and you get loyal guests. read more

I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and after about 5 lonely laps in the merchandise section, I decided to interrupt the seemingly-more-important conversation happening between employee-only area and the Cobra Kai Haro crew hanging around the back door. To their credit, they told me of some place in Westlake that could order a handlebar stem. So later, I just went to my normal favorite bike place @ 51st and Duval (a longer drive but worth it)...they gave me a used stem for free. read more

okay; great visit first trip (with kid's bike), so why not get a couple minor tweaks done on mine. another great, and reasonable experience. installed grips with price at half that on list price, and i can tell a lot of attention paid to whole bike even though I agreed to have only derailleur tuned and grips installed. net charge $22, but looks like bike which would be at least $40 at next shop... and, again, guys look like they are enjoying their work. thanks. read more

These guys are pretty dang cool. I understand a lot of the gripes that have been posted, but a lot of them just sound like PITA id10ts that walk into a shop of guys that just love bikes/biking. get your expectations right folks. This isnt a national chain that you can send your complaints to corporate when the guys don't wait on your dumb-ass hand and foot, just to have you bitch about the price of the bikes or the lack of selection. I've never spent a dime in this store. I tried, and they wouldn't hear of it. I tried again twice more on different occasions, and same result. I have now been there three times to have my kids' (target bought) bikes repaired/adjusted, and these cats haven't been anything but kind, courteous, and cool. Out of loyalty/appreciation, i'll have no choice but to run to these guys when it's time for a serious bike or three. BTW, they informed me that they're moving into the new Alamo Draft House complex when it's ready. read more

If you don't have a $1000 dollars to spend and don't look like it I would suggest another bike shop. They only seem to carry about 5 brands of new bikes and the space and selection is very limited. This was the was the first time I had been in the shop after three attempts to visit , first the store was closed on the day I showed up although it was not mentioned on their website and the second time they did not open on time. I would suggest that you look at the many other Austin bike shops to find a larger selection of bicycles that are capable of meeting the needs of persons or families with a range of incomes. read more
