I was at this small Japanese sushi place a few months ago for lunch. The interior is a bit different than the usual sushi place, being downstairs within a large office building, and I believe they own the nice-looking coffee and tea place next door, which I will try another day. They are reasonably priced for the quality, and the service was very friendly, whether from the waitress or the various chefs. A handful of others were having the "Atto Style," a $50 mini-lunch omakase with a miso soup or salad, followed by 10 pieces of deluxe sushi. However, as I had to go back to work, I went with the more casual Hachi, where, aside from the obligatory salad or soup at the beginning, all eight pieces are on the same plate along with the roll of the day. The first thing that arrived was the miso soup. The broth was on the lighter side, aside from the much higher amount of scallions than usual, which was a unique and refreshing touch. It was warm and pleasant, with a bit of nice tofu, but nothing super interesting beyond that amount of scallion. The main plate was presented beautifully, with the eight pieces in front of and to the side of the daily roll, along with two types of seaweed: purple and green. The fish on a plate usually includes tuna, salmon, yellowtail seabream, fluke, Spanish mackerel, amberjack, and scallop. However, one of the typical fish was replaced with blackthroat seaperch, or akamatsu/nodoguro, a seasonal fish on the omakase menu. This was a very welcome gesture from the staff, and I very much appreciated it. The overall quality of the fish was very good for the price, with the seasonal fish being the expected highlight. The daily roll was spicy salmon, which was, of course, better than the usual places, with much more fish and a milder spice, presumably to highlight the salmon. Overall, I enjoyed this a lot, and it was particularly good for the price point. Based on the quality of the lunch, I would definitely go back for dinner and try their fancier omakase, and at a minimum, I'd go and try their mini lunch omakase. At least from the lunch alone, I would recommend this place if you're in the mood for fancier sushi than Dai Hachi or the many other places in the area that also won't break the bank. read more

I have only tried takeout from Atto Sushi - but that was pretty good that I would love to try dining in! They are located downstairs in a plaza near the E/F train lines. My bestie and I came here for omakase - they were extremely friendly and nice. We showed up a tad bit early to our reservation and we got seated right away. Their location is in the inside of a mall in the basement - they have counter seating in two different areas (one more on the outside and the other more inside and more vibey). They have two different different omakase options - one which is 17 course and the other is 13 course. We went with the 13 course option - which was a good amount of food. The presentation was so pretty for each one of the sushi rolls and the appetizer and they provided us with a brief overview of what each piece if before we ate it. Everything was so fresh and absolutely melt in your mouth delicious. All the sushi pieces tasted as good as they looked. Overall - highly recommend checking this place out. sushi set with miso soup, $55 delivered plus $9 tip. I swapped in a yellowtail jalapeño roll for a $1 supplement. The roll? Fine, though the color looked a little off. Miso soup? Only filled halfway, which is wild considering how cheap that is to make. Nigiri was fresh enough -- nice sheen on the salmon, tuna was oily, mackerel was dressed -- but the rice-to-fish ratio felt off, with way less rice than expected. Overall, this was okay, but there are at least ten spots I'd hit before this for a simple sushi set. They do have $75 and $85 omakase options, and maybe one day I'll try them, but this didn't exactly inspire confidence. Atto offers high quality sushi at reasonable prices. I got a Chirashi ($35) and a Kara roll ($17). Quality wise I would say the sushi is at least one grade up from your typical local neighborhood sushi joint. It's not Michelin-star level by any means, but it's quite good for the price point. Solid sushi for the price point. I had omakase at the counter and enjoyed every piece (except the Uni which wasn't very fresh in my opinion). The chutoro, otoro, and salmon were my favorite. The sushi chef took about 15/20 minutes to get started but once he did the pacing was great. It's a little hard to find - if you don't enter directly from the subway then take the escalators down to the bottom level of the building. Also note that the bathroom is not in the restaurant but in the atrium (the security guard has to let you in). Chu toro and lean tuna nigiri were some of the best nigiri we've ever had. The negitoro, hamachi and scallion roll were as good as any. You should visit Atto. They are a new omakase sushi restaurant. That has become all the rage. They are unlike those rivals just trying to profit from a trend. The food is fresh. The preparation is professional. The atmosphere is calm. The service is unobtrusive. I knew as soon as I walked in that this was a place I could trust to deliver a fine meal. Sadly, they have not been discovered. I hope to change that. They deserve clientele. The issue is their location in the basement of an office building. For me, that was fine. It was close to where I met a former work colleague for a beer. More importantly, it was a block from the subway stop I needed to get to afterward to make my way home to central Queens. Although I selected the venue based on convenience, I can report that it is not limited to those looking for Japanese food in close proximity. A group could have a great evening. The salad was good too. I enjoy Japanese dressings. There was nothing but quality to be had here. They are not catering to those who know only the California roll with faux crab. They had Hokkaido uni, a petite serving. Someone not accustomed to more adventuresome offerings would not be put off. I praise the ginger. It was not dyed and cloying, but a piquant mound. This place is a little hidden gem downstairs of 875. At about 12:00/lunchtime there was even live music playing (piano and violin) in the atrium. Fresh and delicious! Clean, friendly staff, quiet atmosphere and beautiful sushi. They even have a perfect drink and mocktail menu.
