Had a great time and great food I went here when it first opened after getting 3 stars in the times years ago , now my friend told me chicka from chickalicious is working there on fri and Saturday after retirement from her dessert bar so I went and enjoyed

Having just returned from a trip to Japan, I was really craving fresh sushi. Hadn't been back to Yasuda for a few years, so decided to give it another shot. And I must say, it was definitely even better than I remembered! The fish was as fresh and tasty as I experienced in Japan. On top of it all, service was up to Japanese standards, and I felt like a valued client from beginning to end. Yasuda is back on the top of my list of go-to sushi spots in NYC!

From the dreary manhattan street into this bright and light wood interior, we were greeted vigorously and treated well to sit at the sushi bar. Watching the chefs prepare the food is not a grand event like social media hypes but it is endearing to have the chef ask "uni and eel ok??" And yes sir it definitely is, fmu We got the 15 piece omakase as well as a softshell crab. I would skip on the crab it didn't add much to the experience All pieces were wonderfully crafted and placed before us, I think they overheard our yapping and gave us 2x toro during the course. Only the eel was not satisfying, because it had such a high bar to meet, unfortunately it isn't as melty/fatty as in other places I'd been Watch out if you want tap water make sure to specify otherwise you're getting charged for bottled. Great meal, fantastic mouth feels (scallop and uni were incredible)

I was lucky to have an incredibly thoughtful husband book us reservations for the bar (to experience true Omakase) for my Birthday!! Pictures don't do the TASTE and EXPERIENCE justice but I'll try... Incredible nod to the thoughtful table settings. Everything perfectly aligned and those chopsticks (and rest) were awesome. Sashimi course (top: tuna cheek, striped jack, Japanese sardine, bottom left: baby sea bream, bottom right: giant glam) and small appetizer of Oshitashi (bottom center). Sushi Pt 1 (sea bream, amberjack, medium fatty tuna, Japanese cherry salmon, jack mackerel, skip jack, spot prawn, marinated tuna, king salmon). Sushi Pt 2 (fatty tuna, scallop, Japanese sea perch, snow crab, sea eel, salmon roe, fatty tuna hand roll, uni, uni hand roll). Thank you to the staff at Sushi Yasuda - especially our Chef - that was an incredible experience that I won't soon forget.

Came here for lunch with a friend and we had a great time. The interior of the restaurant is spacious, wooden, bright, and clean. Service is very polite and kind. They have a couple omakase sets that you can choose from but we did the omakase until you stop. All of the cuts that we got were amazing and the variety of the sashimi was very nice. My favorite piece was definitely the unagi with salt (a very different experience than what you normally have with the sauce!!). In the end, we had around 15-17 pieces and the bill came out to be ~$700. Overall, I'm not sure the "eat-till-you-stop" is worth the price, but the sushi was good and I would be down to try their omakase set another time!

Came here for the first time and it was pretty good. First off I love the really authentic Japanese atmosphere. Sat at the counter for the full omakase experience. Started with a fried shrimp appetizer and a glass of sake. The app was good but nothing mind blowing. Next the omakase started coming. the tuna and salmon just kept getting buttery and more buttery. There's no question of the excellent quality of fish. But over all I wasn't blown away by anything. I guess I would prefer a few more innovative dishes sprinkled in. Overall the meal was good but for the $$$$ not sure it was worth it.

Excellent 15-piece $170 omakase in an upscale environment with unbelievable service. Fish was super delicious, fresh and excellent presentation by our sushi chef. Bluefin tuna was a standout as was super fresh Hokkaido sushi, but everything felt fresher and more luxe than even the normal omakase spots in NYC. Top top. Was here maybe 10 years ago and even better than I remembered.

Corporate and sleek are what come to mind when I think of Sushi Yasuda. The floral ikebana arrangements are very welcoming and the lighting of the restaurant goes against what one would experience in a mid 2010s Hollister store. We both ordered omakase (sushi & sashimi combo) with plum wine (option of on the rocks or without). While I've enjoyed plum wine at past restaurants, it felt a bit too sweet so we had to dilute it with ice. For omakase, usually it's an experience done well at bar seating, however we were seated in the dining room area, so it felt less authentic-they also ask when you'd like your final round of omakase to be which feels odd from a price scaling point. How do I know the best part of the fish will come later if I end my omakase round now? We did order cold sake towards the end of the night, but they completely forgot about that, which felt like some oversight from their end given that it wasn't that busy. The uni, otoro, and salmon at least tasted fresh and were highlights of the fish for me!

I did not see a sign when I found this spot. The only sign was thin written letters I noticed on the door. When entering the first set of doors the second set of doors were slid open by a staff member. I was asked if I had a reservation but it was no problem because they found me a spot. As I looked around I could tell they methodically placed everyone to give each person or group the most privacy so each could have their own private experience. Everywhere I looked was spotless and just immaculate. The staff was as perfect as a fairy tale and the quality of the sushi was the highest I have encountered in the United States. The moment my glass was half empty someone would come out of nowhere and refill my glass before disappearing again. The rice is perfectly cooked, prepared, and seasoned. Every slice of fish was the perfect thickness as well as fish to rice ratio. The serving temperature of the sushi was spot on. The fatty tuna was as if I were eating a fish version of A5 wagyu from this year's contest winner. Every piece was perfect. I was offered one last piece and somewhere in cloud 9 I forgot to take a picture but this single piece of fish was melt in your mouth like eating a cloud! When I gave them my card I was brought a hot tea that was the perfect ending. I normally do not write reviews before I return from a trip but this one deserves immediate credit. If you're looking for a quiet place and want quality then look no further. The flavors, textures, and thought processes is truly art. If you can only see one place in New York then make this it.

Not sure if it's because I didn't sit at the bar, but the fish didn't taste very fresh. The fish also didn't feel very soft. I was kind of disappointed because this is supposed to be a high end omakase experience, but it didn't really feel that way. Everyone was super nice though, and service was relatively fast!

Heard that they were one of the OG omakase spots back in the day so I was glad I got a chance to try their food! Overall felt that their sushi was solid but not sure if its worth the price point. Our appetizer was a special of the day, Sawagani, which were whole miniature soft shell crabs that were flash fried. It was deliciously well-seasoned and wish we ordered more. They have a 12-piece set for $130 and a 15-piece set for $170, as well as other options. It was hard to pick my favorite but my top few were the New Zealand King Salmon, winter hamachi, eel, and probably scallop. The salmon was super tender with a great meat to fat ratio. The yuzu zest complimented the hamachi nicely. The eel was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, but also covered with the sauce. My set also included needle fish, blue fin tuna, yellow tail, icelandic salmon, mackerel, spot prawn, and a shrimp-based broth. The fish were pretty fresh and rice well-seasoned. For some pieces, I felt that the wasabi to sushi ratio was a little high but my partner did not find that an issue. Staff were very attentive and polite. The restaurant was very minimalistic. Would recommend sitting at the sushi counter for an optimal omakase experience! It makes sense for them to be on the pricer side with their high quality seafood imported from all over the place; however end-product flavor wise I felt like was comparable to other omakase places (at lower prices). Would be interested in returning to check out their al la carte items!

We had been looking forward to having dinner here. The food was disappointing. We ordered the sushi and sashimi omakase. Many of the fish pieces were not fresh however the sashimi was delicious. The service was great. The servers paid close attention to water and tea refills- they filled it without even asking. They waited an appropriate amount of time in between courses and were attentive without being overly interruptive. The restaurant decor is pretty impressive. Floor to ceiling wood creates a soothing and refreshing atmosphere within the restaurant. The accents were minimalistic and very nicely put together.

Is tip included?

Tip is not included. Before the pandemic it was. Not now though.

Is there a dress code?

Yes. Must wear pants

How is the Omakase price determined?

What is the average price for the omakase there?

It depends on how many pieces of sushi you'd like. I've had the omakase for less than $100, but it could be more if you want more pieces. They will continue to serve you more pieces or you could let them know a set number of pieces when you order… Read more

How much omakase?

they have many options from 50$ to 150$

Do they take walk ins for lunch if it's just one person?

Yes - it's a little dicey, but it can be done. There's a good chance they'll find a spot at the counter.

Who is the best sushi chef at Yasuda?

Mitsu - he's the head chef and the best of the best.

How long in advance do I need a reservation?

It's not necessarily a full month in advance, depending on their availability. But if you really need to go at peak lunch or dinner hours or Thur-Sat, make it asap!

Opinions: 6pm omakase at the bar before walking to Richard Rodgers Theatre to see Hamilton at 8pm - good or bad idea? (we love Yasuda, been many times, this is more of a scheduling question) Thanks!

That's a beautiful life! Go for it!

It's not especially big, so you may have a bit of a wait if you frequent right at lunch or in the evening but whatever amount of time you have to wait it will be well worth it. Service is top tier but you come for the food. They have a varied menu with a lot of options so if you're bringing a buddy that isn't up for Katsu, they'll have plenty to choose from. The Katsu is the star and I think what sets this place apart is that they offer Berkshire pork katsu as an option. Arguably some of the best pork, it's great to have the option if you're looking to heighten the experience. I love their pork katsu and go nuts over the chicken katsu curry. It's super crispy, slightly greasy but never off-putting. And it's served with the most delicate and delicious cabbage slaw. I could eat a mountain of this it's so good. Highly recommended.

Katsu-Hama is about two doors to the Left of Phil's, and has minimal, very discreet signage. I got some tonkatsu...I forget the exact type, but it was essentially the most fatty of the tonkatsu offered. It came with cabbage (with a sesame ginger type dressing), daikon radish (with some type of sauce on top), and the standard sauce for the tonkatsu, along with some crushed sesame seed and hot mustard. I'd have to say...the tonkatsu was quite good....not quite as sublime as my favorite tonkatsu place in Tokyo...but still, very, very good. The dish also came with a bowl of miso soup (good, and not overly salty) and a bowl of white rice, which I considered the most disappointing part of the meal. The rice seemed a bit dried out...not moist.... All in all, an excellent meal. I'd definitely come back.

Many of the clientele are Japanese so we knew we were at an authentic place. We got: - Fried oysters: the batter was light and crispy and oysters piping hot - Vinegared Mackerel w/ Ponzu Sauce: fresh & tangy - Intestines Hotpot: comforting & light despite the fattiness of the intestines - Creamed Mentai Udon: they split it in 2 small bowls for us since we were sharing. Udon had a nice bouncy chew and sauce was not heavy We also got a bottle of sake, and they poured it in a beautiful sake decanter to keep it cold. First time seeing cold sake presented this way which was very cool. We tried Suntory draft beer since that was the only draft they had, which was odd since most Japanese places carry Asahi/Sapporo, definitely not as light as the other two beers I'm used to. Even though I was stuffed by the end, I didn't feel lethargic, everything felt light without compromising flavor. As you step into the restaurant, you immediately feel a sense of formality and strictness. It's also very quiet in the restaurant, and friendly to solo diners, adding on more to the Japan-esque feel. The food is high quality here, but the portions are small, and it is pricey. I would budget to spend around $100 a person here after tip and tax, if you ignore the prices on the menu and try a variety of things. The tuna from the bone is the most famous dish here, but I was not able to get it as they sell out very fast. But I tried the sashimi and it was high quality -- just that it was not enough food for me. But that makes it more in line with portions back in Japan. They have an extensive sake list and they also have the casual cocktail options like lemon drops you would find in Tokyo. The atmosphere really transports you straight into Japan if that is something you are looking for. Expect to pay a premium for small-ish portions, but at the same time very well-made and authentic food.
