At that time, not many businesses WERE able to operate effectively, with people stressed and on edge, getting sick, & calling off. I do agree that it IS the responsibility of top management to address the issues of mail and packages repeatedly being delivered to wrong addresses, in poor condition, or just not delivered! If these complaints are mostly on a specific route or area, maybe there's a "bad apple" in the bunch. FIX it! When I first moved to Ojai, 18 years ago, I was taken aback at how friendly, engaging, interested & interesting, and welcoming the personnel in this very post office were. They couldn't have made a better first impression on me! And I've got to admit, that impression has endured, by being served & helped well. Yes, the lines can get long, and I especially remember times during the Covid pandemic that were dreadful...but I understood the situation, and didn't take it out on the postal workers. It's not easy, serving the public all day, day-in and day-out. And some of the complaints here are SO personal... Gracious!... A cobweb here, a smudge on the counter there? This used to be a Wild-West, country-town, man! LOL. You should have been here Then!! And some folks are just used to complaining, everywhere they go, every day. And others DO have a legitimate beef here, but I think a lot of the problems, starting around 6 years ago, have been addressed and resolved, statistically speaking. Jerry & team were very professional and responsive, provided a clear and a fair quote, and were willing to explain the details when I had questions. As I understand it, each phase of the moving process is usually subcontracted to a different company or service. Alpha Marine seems to work with reliable partners, but I The movers that came to the apartment were timely, efficient, and communicative. They packed our belongings quickly and safely. The customs clearers in the EU port gave us timely communications and made clear what documentation was required. The movers that delivered everything to our apartment were likewise efficient and professional. Most importantly, everything arrived in good condition and in the expected time. If I could do anything over again it would be to leave all of the packing to the movers. Firstly, customer-packed items are excluded from the insurance coverage they offer (I do wish they'd made that clear earlier.) I packed about 1/3 our stuff myself. While I probably saved a little with space efficiency (final cost is based on volume), it was very time consuming. When you're moving, time is often at a premium, and the pros are MUCH faster and better at it than you. While they are better at it, it is still worthwhile to pay close attention to how your most valuable or fragile items are being packed. They are trying to go fast and while they make a good faith effort to protect everything well, oversight is still worthwhile. It probably goes without saying, but don't forget to make a thorough inventory of everything you're shipping (including approximate values) before the movers come, both for yourself and for customs clearance. We had a monumentally bad experience with Alpha Marine. We moved from Los Angeles to Italy and used…read moreAlpha Marine based on a friend's recommendation. We paid for white glove service and ended up storing our items with them for over a year. We thought so highly of them when we first met with them, we recommended them to two more friends who were also moving to Europe, but Alpha Marine failed us so epically, we cannot be silent. After over a year with all our possessions in storage, when we were finally were ready to send for our things we learned there were fewer ships and the prices had all gone up (which we were not warned about even though we had stayed in close communication with Karen all year). And then we were charged additional storage fees while Karen looked for a boat. We thought that would be the expected bump in the road, but once our container was on the way, the arrival date kept changing every few weeks and it ended up taking TWICE the originally estimated time. We were never told why that happened, but we rolled with it. When the container finally arrived two months later, we were elated! We were invited to be present when the Italian movers broke the container seal. However, our excitement quickly shifted to shock and dismay when we found six broken chairs, four broken lamps, shattered glasses, pottery, and a number of missing items. The packing quality was inconsistent with unbreakable items over wrapped while expensive lamps were literally placed in empty boxes with NO wrapping. And according to the Italian movers, Karen's team also did not pack the shipping container properly, as they left room for shifting, hence poorly packed items being even more susceptible to breakage. They too were shocked at the amount of damage and told us they had never seen anything like it before. When we shared the photos and videos with Karen, she told us to file a claim, insisted this had never happened before and took no responsibility for the poor packing. After nearly two months of paperwork, we only got $4,000 from over $15,000 in damages from the insurance company. And when we turned to Karen for help, she washed her hands of us telling us that ONLY items on the insurance list were covered. She made no amends for the incompetent packing or the missing items. We paid more to insure the items then we got back from for our broken items. We hoped Karen and Alpha Marine would at the very least cover or split the insurance deductible with us to make up for the damages and lost items, but she did absolutely nothing to help us in any way other than to accuse us of trying to "threaten her" with a poor review. After a year and a half of paying for storage and insurance, all we wanted was to move our things into our new home, and we understand things can break during a move, that's normal, but this was such incompetent packing, it was truly shocking. But that Karen and her company did absolutely nothing to try to make it even a little better made it worse. If you chose to go with them, we suggest you make sure you add every single to your insurance list, as they will not take any responsibility for anything that is not on that list, including damaged items from their own poor packing or items they have lost.
