While on the hunt for some particular shade of Bernat Blanket yarn, I thought that either this…read morestore, or the Camarillo one, would have a larger selection than in Moorpark. Dear Hubby and I were out at Ventura Harbor on a Sunday to beat the inland heat. It was an easy drive to swing by this location while heading in the general direction of home. I hadn't been to this location in a while. The visit proved to be a better experience than one of the previous time which I wrote about in another posting. The store was in good condition - stocked and clean. The yarn department is slightly larger than I remember. Since Joann's went out of business last year, it offered more opportunity for Michael's to step it up for the knitters and crocheters to have a bigger selection to choose from locally. I do try to support local businesses, versus ordering online. I was able to pick out several shades of my favorite yarn to purchase that day. Unfortunately, they weren't on sale. I had a coupon for one item at 30% off full price, so that helped. Also, apparently I look like a senior to anyone under 25 (well, I am, but still . . .), as the cashier applied a senior discount without being asked. All told, the price came out a little higher than I had hoped, but within an acceptable amount. Like many things that don't originate in the USA, tariff prices have affected yarn. What used to be $10 or $11 a skein is now $14. Ouch. This store, like many, have added self-checkout kiosks. I don't like them. I'd much rather interact with a human associate, and help save their jobs. Also, I had a couple of questions that a computer couldn't answer. As such, I had to wait in line longer to be able to speak with said associate. I'd say at a store that promotes creativity, forcing patrons to use the kiosks kills off some of the pleasure of thinking about creative endeavors. Speaking of creativity, I forgot to take any photos this time. They were starting to heavily feature Halloween and fall merchandise. Some of the 'ween decorations were interesting.

Showed up, Kat told us they had nobody to do the service, that the person who answered was new and that it would take too long (15 minutes). We spent 5 minutes talking about it instead of trying to fix the problem. We asked if we could just get a few instead and he said no they had to worry about the closing and the Go backs which is more important than helping a paying customer. Won't be back again.

I've been in here a few times and it's a super cool store. They have charms and chains beyond anything you could ever imagine! On the weekend this spot gets busy and it's a lot of fun watching people pick out custom charms to make their own jewelry. On the weekdays it's a little less busy so I found it to be the perfect opportunity to come in to find a chain for one of my pendants. Shoutout to Mackenzie for providing A+ service and support. Interacting with her was lovely from start to finish. She was super knowledgeable about the selection they have and was eager to help as I had a lot of questions. She took time to explain the difference in pricing between their costume jewelry chains and higher quality chains. Given that my pendant was very pricey to begin with it made sense to splurge for the $60+ dollar chain. It's nice though they have varieties for every type of person and they had chains as cheap as $10 so very reasonable depending what you need. Mackenzie walked me through the different silver chain options to find what would be the best fit for the pendant I brought in. I was super appreciative that she was hands-on and showed me different options so that I could pick out what looked perfect with my peace. She verified my chain length and gave more suggestions and then was able to put it all together, and it looked fabulous! It's always extra special when you have staff who are passionate about the work they do and are very helpful to their customers. This is definitely a shop I would come back to again for my jewelry needs, and I plan to bring some friends who I know have been wanting to make their own custom charm necklaces. Definitely a great local spot in downtown Ventura.

The team is so approachable and welcoming, so looking for niche romance novels is never intimidating. I'm a sucker for a good and cheesy romance novel and this spot meets my needs and more. In addition they carry beautiful local made trinkets and have the best selection of book related stickers!! Everything is reasonably priced and you have the added benefit of supporting a lovely Ventura business. Smitten holds release parties and while I didn't get to attend the one I purchased they held my book for me and even kept a pin for me that they gave out at the party! I hear rhag it was a black light event with games and snackies, what a treat! I hope you can visit sometime soon! Okay thanks bye!

I also saw tarot cards for dogs being sold, which made me smile. For a small to medium space, they make the most of fun and original books and other inspired art. In the back, there's a small meeting space. On the website, they have a lot of events - everything from book club meetings, tarot card readings, a journaling club, a writing club, book swaps, and more. I attended one of the book clubs, where everyone expressively and passionately explained the moments they liked and didn't like from the book. I would never have read such an entertaining and creative book if not for Smitten's book club. The book discussion made me like the book even more through everyone's inspiring analysis. Take a look at this fun, community-inspired bookstore!

All of the items in the shop are handmade by local seniors! I just feel that it can't get any more special than that. The shop is also a non-profit, so all of the seniors that sell their items there also volunteer their time to run the store. They are the sweetest, kindest, and most grateful people you will ever meet. I have always been greeted with the warmest smiles, and I leave with so much joy in my heart with the interactions and the opportunity to give back to the community. In an age where so many things are mass produced, this shop is keeping the magic alive by hand crafting lovely items. You can find a gift for any occasion. During the holidays, they also have seasonal items that can add to your home decor. The quality is so beautiful, and one of a kind! Truly such an amazing way to show your loved ones your love by giving them a beautiful, handmade gift. We have found some really special items here for my daughter that we just adore. There are items for every price point, and each piece is so beautiful. You can feel the love and care that the seniors have for their crafts!!! Remember them next time you are looking for a gift! And if you are holiday shopping this season, give them a visit!!!

I have a small business myself and to me it's more important to provide service to my clients that will support the ongoing relationship and reputation rather than holding rigidly to small print to "protect" a $20 transaction. This store does not hold the same business philosophy that i do. that said, Copperfield's has lost any future business or referrals from my family who have been repeat customers for years.
