From the beginning, I interviewed several movers in the Kansas City area to move my family and I to Florida. We had a home's worth of items to move, and found Always Helpful Movers based on reviews on HomeAdvisor. I called them up and scheduled a time for them to come out and walk through the house to provide us with a quote on materials, moving fees, insurance, etc. John showed up to provide us with a very detailed quote, and answered my many, many questions. ***(Please note that I did a heck of a lot of homework - asked all the questions about fees, storage, fuel costs, insurance costs, packing and packaging costs, etc. I was very diligent and made sure I had all my answers before selecting a mover. It was very important to me that I fully understood all the services and rates they offered, and I made sure John and the team understood my expectations and what I was looking for. Doing my homework helped make this experience better for me, and I'd recommend you do the same. Ask ALL the questions, and make sure you fully understand the services that are being provided so you and your selected moving company all have the same expectations.)
The quote John provided me was the lowest quote from the 4+ moving companies I interviewed. While that was very appealing, it was the customer service that really sold me. I appreciated that Always Helpful Movers made it a rule for their workers that they wouldn't cuss or talk crudely while around customers, they would respect our property and treat customers with respect. I have worked with many moving companies in the past that did not share these same values, and as a young female in charge of the move, I didn't feel respected in past situations. (I've had past movers eating, smoking weed on the job, speaking crudely about one-night stands on the job, etc.) Always Helpful Movers made me feel confident and respected during my cross-country move, and that is what really earned them this top review. This was apparent in the way they explained things to me, in how they spoke to me on the phone, in how they called me to let me know if they were running 15 minutes late, in how they updated us on prices and fees, etc. From day one, they showed me respect and never made me feel uncomfortable. Thank you for that.
On the packing day, a team of six men came to my house and packed up all the items remaining. They took great care in helping me keep a full inventory list, by numbering and labeling all items according to my color-coded system. They were careful and respectful to my property, and even put down plastic and mats on the carpet so they wouldn't track dirt into the house. They were kind, respectful, and got the job done very quickly. Come moving day, they came to my house to pack everything up into the giant trailer. Again, they covered the carpets and got the job done quickly. When they left with our items, I knew exactly who on their team would be delivering our goods, when they would arrive, and helped me to feel very informed. We purchased the highest insurance as a peace of mind, to ensure all our items would make it safely.
My husband met them in Florida for the arrival of our items, and the two-man team did a great job unloading our items into two separate locations. They were quick, respectful, and worked with my inventory list to make sure everything arrived, and to make sure everything was unloaded into the right spot. They re-assembled any furniture (like couches and bed posts) in the final destination, and made sure everything was to my husband's standards before leaving. One thing that I really appreciated was their attention to detail. When re-assembling the bed post, the movers weren't able to locate the screws and hardware that should have been sent with the bed. Instead of blowing it off and saying "tough, good luck fixing it!" like other movers have in the past, John went to Home Depot to purchase the correct hardware himself, and came back to reassemble the furniture. That kind of care and respect for our property truly impressed me.
When all was said and done, the quote they provided me was spot on, and that was the amount we paid. All items arrived exactly when they said they would and arrived in great shape - nothing was broken or destroyed - they took great care of our items. (I think perhaps I noticed a few scratches on a picture frame, but for moving an entire house and having that be the only damage - I'm really impressed.)
Ultimately, it was a great moving experience. We learned a lot about the process and about good service by working with Always Helpful Movers. I am sad they are only local to Kansas City, as I'd love to be able to hire them for all future moves - I don't think anybody else will stack up.
