Moving day came three guys showed up. They figured six hours and gave me the rate of $180 an hour. The loading went pretty smooth and we got everything into their van. However the unloading was chaos and they just put stuff everywhere. The furniture they room which is the right thing to do but the boxes just went here and there and trying to find what I need is just turning into a big problem. The guys nice and polite and courteous but I think that they could've been a little more organized with the unloading and look at the boxes OK this box goes in this room you know this box goes there because all the boxes were labeled so they would know. Doubtful I will use them again but might consider. read more

Hiring Always Helpful was such a terrible mistake. Everything that you could imagine that could have gone wrong, went terribly wrong. First, we scheduled our move about 10 days in advance for THREE MOVERS. Two days before the move, the GM called and said he had a funeral to attend, and HE scheduled the move for 1:30, stating HE was going to be late. Cool... The TWO movers that showed up was 30 minutes late which is a huge deal because it set our move back. The TWO men moved EXTREMELY SLOW which is unacceptable bc we're paying by the hour. After about 30 minutes, I said, "When is the 3rd mover coming?" They said he was on the way. After ONE HOUR PASSED, they were getting nowhere bc we had a three bedroom town home. The owner John was called and tried to give a discounted rate, but it didnt matter bc the two men moved slowly. Finally the cacucasian (yes race matters) owner showed up as the third man. The owner seemed VERY ANNOYED that he had to come work as the third man. He was very aloof and condescending. The guy that had the funeral Finally showed up after hour 3. The CAUCASIAN owner said to us, who are African American, said he was working "like slaves" trying to get the move done. He only worked about one hour. The slave comment was VERY INSENSITIVE AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SAID. I was promised that the move would take no more than 3 to 4 hours. The move from beginning to end was SIX HOURS!!! We had to pay for their slowness and incompetence of the owner. The owner should have gotten another third man to fill in for the guy that had the funeral. The owner did come himself but that was a huge mistake. I will NEVER... and I mean NEVER hire these people to do ANYTHING for me EVER AGAIN. I am hurt by the insensitive comments, and I was lied to about pricing. And they took way too long. read more

This company was hired to load our long distance move. This load was totally boxed and ready to go and this load took 9 1/2 hours which was over what they had bid along with we had to help load. Also we provided tons of padding material to be used (instead of buying it from them). We were told all of it was used and then we were charged for paper padding. When we unloaded we found 4 boxes of padding never used along with lots of items damaged/broken. We've reached out to this company for resolution several times via email/phone with no resolution to date. We do not recommend this company! read more

When my wife and I were selling our house, I asked our realtor if he knew of a reputable and dependable moving service. He recommended Always Helpful Movers saying that they had moved him and several clients of his. All of them had good reports and our realtor added that John the owner of the moving company was also a missionary traveling around the world to share the good new of Jesus Christ and praying for the sick. I called John and found him very congenial and price competitive. We had a couple of special issues. We were moving from a large house and large shop into a small house and multiple storage units all at different locations. He was very accommodating in this and when we forgot a couple of things for the house his men were very helpful to retrieve them from the storage. In fact, we rented ample storage to ensure there was room for everything but his men were efficient in storing so we were able to save money by releasing the excess space. The other special issue in our transition was a baby grand piano, my wife's baby. We had already contacted a piano mover for the job but John explained that he had move numerous pianos and it was really no problem, we did not need the extra expense of a special mover. I was thinking yes there are many upright pianos and over the years I too have moved and helped friends move pianos. However, I have seen the results of armatures attempting to move a baby grand. If such a piano is dropped, it can never be fully restored and my wife is very fond of this piano and its special quality (to our ears anyway). John did move it. He did know exactly what he was doing and even my wife said he treated it like his own baby. John and his men were also attentive to details. What they took apart, tables, beds, etc., they put back together. All the parts screws, etc. were wrapped together and nothing was lost, broken or scratched. There were even a few things we overlooked on the walls that they willingly removed for us. All of the men were congenial and Always Helpful Movers. It was a great experience. read more

I called this company as it was a locally owned business and not a national company (and it had been in business for many years). The movers were punctual and did a good job. However, the bid that the owner gave when he came to the house was almost twice what was quoted initially and I had not changed anything to be moved on my end of the contract. I chose this company based off a recommendation I received from my sister. From initial phone call I felt this would be a great company to work with. When my June 1st move date arrived it was a totally different experience. The mover were 15 minute late. The first question they asked me, What would you like us to place on the truck first? I thought they are were the professional. Jessie and the other coworker proceed to yell at each other in my apartment. They were arguing over who knew the most. Jessie was using profanities. I finally called the office to complain and I did get apology from the office. I have a 1bedroom apartment and it took 5.5 hours for these two to move me. They sent out Dylan and he did give me a slight discount. I think they could have did more. The price they quoted over the phone was $540-$640. I paid $560. It's not my fault you sent me two new movers. Jessie stated he been with company for 4 weeks and the other one for 4 days. I used YOU MOVE ME for my last move 2 years ago and had a GREAT EXPERIENCE! My sister recommended that I try Always Helpful Mover. I thought I would give them a chance and they the stated they are faith based. Always Helpful Movers Review Planning to move? Researching moving companies? Allow me to forewarn you and save you a lot of money and grief--PLEASE do not use Always Helpful Movers (AHM) in Raytown, Missouri! This company is managed by a man whose hiring practices and business integrity are highly questionable. We chose this company because they were located near the town where we planned to move and because they stated on their website that they had climate-controlled storage. That was what we needed. Additionally, the owner purported to be a Christian company. Our experience was suspicious from the start, which should have been enough of a red flag for us not to hire AHM. Because we lived four hours away, instead of coming to our home to assess how many furnishings we needed to move, the owner asked for pictures to be emailed. My husband took pictures of every room in our home and detailed the furnishings in each room. Instead of being honest about not owning a truck large enough to hold all our belongings, the owner sent three men with a truck that held approximately ¾ of our possessions. The rest had to be left in the garage of our former home. This caused a huge stress for us because the buyers of our home had almost zero flexibility for this situation. Our leftover belongings had to be put on a borrowed truck and then moved again the following day in the rain to a trailer brought by the owner of the company. We were never allowed to retrieve anything we needed from the storage unit. No~that was an opportunity for the owner to charge us more. We had to pay a crew more than $1000.000 to remove some needed items from storage and deliver them to our daughter's home. And the fees shown on the website for a three-man crew vs. a four-man crew were not accurate. We were charged more than what was stated on the AHM website. Actually, this move cost us nearly double what was quoted to us initially. When we purchased a home and our possessions were delivered to us, we were shocked at the damage done to our furniture, dishes and other items. After 18 moves that we have made in our lifetime, there was more damage done to our belongings in this one move than all previous 17 moves put together. There were 12 pieces from my Christmas dishes broken, including a large serving platter. An heirloom cake plate and other family treasures that cannot be replaced were shattered. Multiple pictures and wall hangings were damaged--some beyond repair. New and like-new furniture was broken, scratched and bashed in like someone had kicked it or taken a sledge hammer to it! The dishes could not have been so severely destroyed unless the handlers had dropped or thrown the boxes. I truly have never seen anything quite like it. This company would do well to change their name to Always Careless Movers! So did a furniture repair person come to attend to the damage? Yes. He repeatedly stated that he was shocked to see such damage but assured us numerous times he was a professional! Well, I've never seen a professional furniture repair person make the situation worse but this one did. Just one example: He used black electrical tape to cover a severely scratched area on a black bedroom set! Seriously! So, learn from my regret and avoid Always Helpful Movers. read more

I am a very sick person that needed to move to a place where I can receive the care that would help provide a better quality of life. One of the worst moving companies possible. 1. Move was originally scheduled for 9 am. The movers called about 5 minutes before 9 to inform me that they would be about an hour late. Called again about 5 minutes before 10 to say they would be about 30 minutes late. Finally showed up at 10:30. 2. Even with three movers, the move took a lot longer than intended. I was moving from a studio to a one bedroom. It took nearly three hours for them to move a twin size bed, desk, shelf, couch, and dining table. At one point, I was so frustrated with all the talking they were doing among each other I began moving my things down to the truck. 3. I called twice before the move to request wardrobe boxes (once three days before the move and once the day before), which they said they would provide free of cost. On the day of, the movers did not show up with them nor did they know they were supposed to have them. We all then proceeded to wait an hour for another man to show up with them. 4. The movers showed up a whole 45 minutes after we did at my new place, and that was not including the 15 minute detour I had to make before leaving the city. I understand they were driving a truck, but an HOUR EXTRA COMMUTE?! And of course I still had to pay that. When I asked the driver why it took so much longer, he said that they had to stop to use the restroom on the way. 5. THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU AN ACCURATE QUOTE. On the phone when originally booking them, I was told $1080, which was understandable for a move to St. Louis from Kansas City. The day of, they showed up with "travel fee" that I had not been told of before for an estimated fee of $1250-1300. The movers called the office where the owner rudely spoke to me saying "we are not moving you for free" when all I was asking was why I was not informed of this fee beforehand. Once reaching St. Louis and getting unpacked, the movers called back to the office and put the phone on speaker. The total came out to $1570. My mother spoke to the "boss" who addressed her in the most demeaning and belittling way possible, asking if she could even read the contract. They refused to even acknowledge the $1250-1300 quote they had given us only a couple of hours before. Just absolutely ridiculous. Overall, I do not recommend this company at all. I absolutely hate moving with every part of my being, but I'd move again next week as long as these guys are in charge of the job. I cannot say enough good things about them! They are true professionals with excellent work ethic who will take utmost care of all your possessions. They took on my long distance move very last minute at night after I was completely abandoned by another moving company. Always Helpful movers took my things across 3 states and not one item was broken, damaged, or even scratched. They wrapped everything carefully even when on a time crunch. John's entire staff is amazingly professional and kind. Both managers that worked with me were excellent. They always answered the phone when I reached out, very responsive and attentive. The young Nigerian and Cameroonian movers, Tom, and the adorable Joseph were all so hardworking and efficient! They never took any breaks and worked tirelessly so the jobs were done in record time. Using Always Helpful Movers was honestly, the best cross-country moving experience I've had, by far, and my family and I have moved quite a bit. Thank you John and the team for making the trip to Florida to move our belongings! From the beginning, I interviewed several movers in the Kansas City area to move my family and I to Florida. We had a home's worth of items to move, and found Always Helpful Movers based on reviews on HomeAdvisor. I called them up and scheduled a time for them to come out and walk through the house to provide us with a quote on materials, moving fees, insurance, etc. John showed up to provide us with a very detailed quote, and answered my many, many questions. ***(Please note that I did a heck of a lot of homework - asked all the questions about fees, storage, fuel costs, insurance costs, packing and packaging costs, etc. I was very diligent and made sure I had all my answers before selecting a mover. It was very important to me that I fully understood all the services and rates they offered, and I made sure John and the team understood my expectations and what I was looking for. Doing my homework helped make this experience better for me, and I'd recommend you do the same. Ask ALL the questions, and make sure you fully understand the services that are being provided so you and your selected moving company all have the same expectations.) The quote John provided me was the lowest quote from the 4+ moving companies I interviewed. While that was very appealing, it was the customer service that really sold me. I appreciated that Always Helpful Movers made it a rule for their workers that they wouldn't cuss or talk crudely while around customers, they would respect our property and treat customers with respect. I have worked with many moving companies in the past that did not share these same values, and as a young female in charge of the move, I didn't feel respected in past situations. (I've had past movers eating, smoking weed on the job, speaking crudely about one-night stands on the job, etc.) Always Helpful Movers made me feel confident and respected during my cross-country move, and that is what really earned them this top review. This was apparent in the way they explained things to me, in how they spoke to me on the phone, in how they called me to let me know if they were running 15 minutes late, in how they updated us on prices and fees, etc. From day one, they showed me respect and never made me feel uncomfortable. Thank you for that. On the packing day, a team of six men came to my house and packed up all the items remaining. They took great care in helping me keep a full inventory list, by numbering and labeling all items according to my color-coded system. They were careful and respectful to my property, and even put down plastic and mats on the carpet so they wouldn't track dirt into the house. They were kind, respectful, and got the job done very quickly. Come moving day, they came to my house to pack everything up into the giant trailer. Again, they covered the carpets and got the job done quickly. When they left with our items, I knew exactly who on their team would be delivering our goods, when they would arrive, and helped me to feel very informed. We purchased the highest insurance as a peace of mind, to ensure all our items would make it safely. My husband met them in Florida for the arrival of our items, and the two-man team did a great job unloading our items into two separate locations. They were quick, respectful, and worked with my inventory list to make sure everything arrived, and to make sure everything was unloaded into the right spot. They re-assembled any furniture (like couches and bed posts) in the final destination, and made sure everything was to my husband's standards before leaving. One thing that I really appreciated was their attention to detail. When re-assembling the bed post, the movers weren't able to locate the screws and hardware that should have been sent with the bed. Instead of blowing it off and saying "tough, good luck fixing it!" like other movers have in the past, John went to Home Depot to purchase the correct hardware himself, and came back to reassemble the furniture. That kind of care and respect for our property truly impressed me. When all was said and done, the quote they provided me was spot on, and that was the amount we paid. All items arrived exactly when they said they would and arrived in great shape - nothing was broken or destroyed - they took great care of our items. (I think perhaps I noticed a few scratches on a picture frame, but for moving an entire house and having that be the only damage - I'm really impressed.) Ultimately, it was a great moving experience. We learned a lot about the process and about good service by working with Always Helpful Movers. I am sad they are only local to Kansas City, as I'd love to be able to hire them for all future moves - I don't think anybody else will stack up. read more

Best movers we have ever used! Victor, Curtis and Steven were so great to work with! We loved working with these guys! They loaded up everything extremely fast, but were still very careful with the items. The three of them knocked it out in no time! When they unloaded at the new house, they were very careful not to damage any items or walls. These guys were nearly sprinting to get all of it done - which saves me money so I'm very happy! Once they arrived, it was a very stress-free experience! Thank you for your hard work! There could be a few improvements around the scheduling piece, but everyone I talked with was very nice! The move itself was a little behind on the start time due to a hiccup they had that morning with another move, but they called me as soon as they knew so I could plan accordingly. I have moved several times and these movers are by far the best I have ever had. They are friendly, fair, and work very hard. I asked them (at the last minute) to move a huge truckload of things across country just before Christmas. They said: "Can do". They took excellent care of my things. They were sure to ask me where I wanted every box and piece of furniture, as opposed to just unloading the truck and being done with it. They connected my washer and dryer for me. (As a senior citizen, that was especially appreciated). They even cleaned an appliance that they found had accumulated mold while waiting to be moved. Who does that?? Showed up early on moving day with three guys, which turned to five once we showed them what we were taking (extra!) Gone by the time I needed to get to the airport. Showed up on time for delivery. Great service, crew was professional, with no music or cussing. Owner fixed what little was wrong. Ended with a prayer offered by the owner. Hire this company if you want a quality move. read more

We were referred to this business through U-pack and Moving Helpers. I specifically asked for four movers and packing services. Three men showed up and the team leader put me on a call with their boss who explained their guys had worked late the night before etc etc. I had a lot of items to move And needed all four. The team leader told me he knew what to do and started loading. I asked them to start with my basement and they instead started with the main floor. Finally, a fourth man showed up mid-day and he focused on the packing the kitchen, but spent more time talking than working. He abruptly left after two hours and left the kitchen a mess. My wife and I had to step in and finish packing. One man went sick for two hours but they still charged for his time. Another man showed up 3:30 and they all worked until 10 pm We ran out of room and had to stay another day to dispose of a couple thousand dollars worth of goods. The team leader had closed the truck and locked it without my approval and when it arrived, I opened it and found considerable room and much of our items stacked and tossed haphazardly at the end Several of our items were damaged and not covered correctly despite the fact I provided ample blankets and packing supplies They broke an expensive lamp shade $165 and refuse to pay for it We received a supplemental bill for $700 on our credit card without an itemized bill and I had to call for that bill. Do not use these people! I repeat, do not use these people! They are not movers- they are Ammon profit religious organization and do not have the expertise or skills to properly help move. read more

I used this moving company over 10 years ago and had a great experience with them. So, when it came time to move again, I called them again. I have referred several friends/family members to the company over the years as well. They were unable to fit all my things onto their truck, yes, my fault, because I had more boxes than I had estimated. Who is the professional here though? I was told there were 5 boxes left behind. When I returned to my previous home, there were 17! Some of them containing expensive items. Thank goodness I was able to return to retrieve some of these items myself, however I had to make some tough decisions on what to take and what to leave. The crew was late showing up and late arriving at our destination. There was a portion on the new wood floors in my new home which had the last coat put on it 24 hrs earlier- it was cordoned off and I explained to the crew not to step on the area. It was easily avoided, however not only did they step on it, they put boxes on it as well-heavy boxes. There were dents in the fridge and washer-I found out later appliance dents are excluded from the contract. The fridge was big, and I advised the crew to please remove the doors, and they didn't take that precaution. As we've continued to place things in our new home, I've notices parts of things missing. I have a table set for the living room that is missing bolts and decorative pieces, a floor lamp missing the retaining ring to hold the globe on. I have not been able to find the parts to replace these things. The table to my dinette set had white scuff marks on the corners-it was paint transferred from the interior of the moving truck. I called to discuss my concerns with the owner, John. He was standoffish and even though I stated I was a repeat customer and had thrown business his way over the years, he was unappreciative. The only issue I got resolved was the table. I sent him pics via email and when he hadn't called back in over a week with a remedy, I had to call again and set up a time to get it repaired. Yes-AHM were an inexpensive choice for moving. Yes, I had a great experience with them before. I was put back by the rude treatment after the move. DO NOT use this company unless you want to be ripped off. My family and I will never use a moving company again after this VERY negative experience. I called Always Helpful Movers to set up a time to get a quote. The Owner John came out to do a walk through. I told him we had two 16 foot trucks booked bc my husband didn't feel comfortable driving a 26 foot truck. I told him we needed a 26 foot truck and someone to load and unload. He said that they have a 26 foot truck and a team that could do that. He sent me quote. I also had a couple other companies get me quotes. John called me twice to see if I were going to go with them. That should of been a red flag. My husband and I discussed the quotes and went with Always Helpful Movers bc they are supposed to be Christian based. Based on that we chose to support them even tho they were a few hundred higher than another company. We sent them the deposit, contract, as well as the insurance money. Shortly after they deposited the check I would receive phone calls every couple days from John as well as different employees asking when I was going to pay the deposit and other questions. I had to inform them they were calling the wrong client and I was not going to Green Bay but Bemidji MN as well as my deposit was paid and cashed weeks prior. I confirmed every time they would be there at 9am on moving day. John said yes 9am start and done at noon. With all the mistakes we started to worry but already paid the deposit and didn't want to lose $2100. I had to call the day before to ask a question about the balance and was told again 9am start. John sent a group to our house on moving day an hr and half late with a pick up truck and trailer. My husband called John about how we were supposed to have a 26 foot truck and they were supposed to be there at 9am not 10:30am. John said all our stuff would fit in the trailer and if it didn't he would send another truck over. It didn't all fit bc we needed a 26 foot truck like I said at the beginning. We were planning on leaving Kansas City no later than 2pm. The first group loaded and left. John never called so my husband called him and was told he was unavailable. We had to wait an hr for someone to bring another trailer to get the rest about 4pm. We didn't leave our house til 6pm to say our goodbyes to our family. We finally got on the road to drive 6.5hrs at 8:15pm. We got into Minneapolis at 4am after being up at 6am since we were told a 9am start. Two days later they came to deliver our stuff to our new house. John sent us a bill for $2400 when it should have only been $1753. John's estimate was way off and we could and should of went with another company that was $1000 less instead of trying to support a Christian based company. We reached out to a few people who have used his company before and they had the same complaints about the drastic difference in price. He estimates low to get the business and springs the bill on you at the end. read more

We called them at 8 am and spoke to Tim that day to see if they could move 5 things. Tim said it would be a couple of hours. After waiting several without hearing anything we called. Tim assured us someone would be out soon to move the items. After waiting we called again and Tim said the originall mover was not doing it and another truck was going to be sent out. Tim did call back later, saying it would be 45 minutes. After waiting 45 minutes and the time being 20 minutes till 5 pm, the website said they closed at 6 pm, we called again. We told them we had waited ALL day and if they were not there at 5 pm we did not want them. Tim assured us the truck had been dispatched and was on its way, we were promised a call back. We heard nothing. We did try to call again and it was not quite 5 pm yet. The call went to an answering machine. I understand we called that day and it was last minute. However if they could not do it, then it would have been nice to be told that. Instead, we wasted an entire day. This is the second time we had used them and the first time we had issues too but they eventually showed up. Poor custtomer service as I felt we were strung along the entire day. The actual movers the first time impressed us as the guys were extra careful with the items. It was the movers themselves that encouraged us to call them first when we needed them again. read more

There is one word that describes "Always Helpful Movers," AMAZING!!!! They went out of their way for me! They were extremely careful with our belongings and were one of the most genuine, caring, kind, personable and professional people I have ever met! John, the owner is wonderful! He was soo helpful! Nowadays it is so common to where the owner has his employees do all the work. With John it was not the case at all! He delivered everything safely with Anthony. He made sure everything was put exactly how I wanted it to be and made sure to ask me if there was anything else they could help me with! Steven was also great! He was professional and got all my belongings into the truck safely. I was worried that we would have to make a few trips back and forth but Steven somehow, thankfully got everything done to where we only had to make one trip! Thank you Steven!! I also desperately needed to get rid of old matresses quickly and did not know who/where to call to get rid of them. Anthony and John were so helpful and kind and got it all taken care of for me! I didn't have to do a single thing! :) The fact that they took care of it for me meant a great deal because I didn't have to worry about how I was going to get rid of them before my move-out date which was soon! I was also already working at my new job so it would have been virtually impossible for me to drive 3 hours away after work to get rid of them and have to drive back to go to work the next day! They are the best moving company we have EVER used!! The only upsetting factor is that we only got the chance to meet them when we were moving out of Lee's Summit and moving to Springfield, 3 hours away. I moved to Arizona in May. Since I was moving across state lines, I requested the largest truck that Always Helpful Movers had. I told them if they would commit the largest truck to my move, I would commit to them. They promised me the truck (I have it in writing), I made my deposit. Next, I requested a final drop off at my new home on Monday. I was told that Monday wasn't possible because of their faith, they would be driving on Sunday. I understood and we changed it to a Saturday delivery. The day of the move AHM showed up with a flat bed trailer. The foreman told me at first that they were using the big truck for a move in Leawood, then he back tracked and told me the large truck needed service and wouldn't be ready for two days (which was the day I wanted to move in the first place). John said the flat trailer had just as much space as the big truck and yet half of the workers pulled me aside and told me it was not (One of them even told me that all of my things weren't going to fit and that they would have if they'd had the large truck.). I couldn't believe it as I watched them disassemble my furniture, creating a jigsaw puzzle out of my things. It took so much time to fit things in that they didn't finish the move that day. I had to rent hotel rooms for all of my family that night and AHM took my things away "to lock it up on their lot for the night". The next morning they showed up with the truck and a cargo van. They wanted to charge me for the additional vehicle and they took until 2 PM that day to finish loading the trucks. Due to their delays, I had tree solid days of driving ahead of me and only 2 1/2 days to do it in. Insult to injury, they were now going to deliver and unload my things on Sunday morning (ha!). We got into Arizona on Saturday evening at 9:30 PM and they were at the house on Sunday morning at 9:00AM. They were supposed to hire help to unload the trucks once that got to AZ but it ended up that only the two guys who drove the vehicles unload all of my things because one of them laid down his wallet along the way (In a store when they were trying on Duck Dynasty tee shirts!) and they no longer had the money to hire the help to unpack me! They blocked my drive with the truck, neither myself or my sister had anything to eat or drink the entire day. Additionally, I'm still finding things are broken. They paid to fix the leg on a chair but my dining room table (from NFM design gallery had squiggly depressions in the top that can not be repaired short of sanding down the top by an 1/8" and then re-staining it). They got mad at me when I pointed out the broken chair leg, they even went so far as to insinuate that it was broken before it went on the trailer (until the found the piece laying in the trailer). Lastly and worst yet, things are missing. Some silly...toiletries...some not so silly, my grandmother's silverware. AHM had told me they run a thrift shop. It never occurred to me that there might be a conflict in that but now that so many things have gone missing, I have to wonder what happened. Did they run out of room to the point that they removed some of my things? I'll never know but what I do know is that their 5 star ratings are a joke. I've struggled with leaving them an honest review because of their purported Christian faith. But I'm Christian and they did wrong by me. I scheduled a move with a different local moving company for a relatively small apartment move, however due to some issues that they were having the day of my move, the company that I originally made arrangements with gave my moving job to Always Helpful Movers. The movers were supposed to arrive between 3pm-6pm, however they didn't arrive until about 6:50pm. I specifically requested 2 movers when I made the appointment with the original moving company, but Always Helpful Movers sent 3 movers instead, and I assumed that was done as a courtesy for being late. I did not mind the extra help, but I was not willing to pay more for 3 movers when I requested 2 movers. The actual move and transport of my belongings was a smooth process and the 3 movers were professional and courteous. When the move was complete and it was time to pay, the lead mover called the "boss" or "owner" and placed him on speakerphone so that he could tell me the total amount owed. When the lead mover told the "owner" the start and stop times of my move, the "owner" miscalculated the total move time as being 2.5 hours instead of 1.75 hours. I'm not sure if this was an honest mistake or if they were trying to get over on me. The "owner" then mentioned an additional travel fee that I never agreed upon paying with the original moving company, nor did Always Helpful Movers make me aware of this unexpected fee prior to the move. I showed them the flat hourly fee that I did agree to pay with the original company and once I made it clear that I was not paying more than that, then they accepted it. The "owner", while still on speakerphone, began acting noticeably irritated when he realized that I was not going to accept being screwed over. He made a comment about the fact that there were 3 movers, but I never requested 3 movers nor did I agree to pay for 3 movers! You can not provide more than what someone has agreed to pay for, and then get upset with the customer when they are not willing to compensate you for what you gratuitously provided! I had nothing to do with any arrangements that were made between this company and the original moving company, so I think that it's very shady that they would attempt to charge me more when I never entered into any type of agreement with them. It is also very shady that the "owner" has to be called and placed on a speakerphone to give the final price of the move. If they are legitimately conducting business with consistent price rates, then why is this necessary? I did still tip the movers ( all 3 of them ) because I was satisfied with their services, but I was unhappy with the price negotiations and for this reason I will never do business with this company nor would I recommend anyone to do so. read more

They assisted me with a last minute move of several pieces of heavy, solid wood, antique furniture. Professional, friendly, very helpful, reasonably priced, & did a great job! DO NOT USE This is the first negative review I have ever written, but feel it was necessary to help inform potential customers to look elsewhere when finding a moving company. I had the worst customer experience one could possibly have. Moved from a 2 bedroom apartment into another 2 bedroom apartment at the same complex. Called and spoke to Greg who gave me a quote of 3 hours. On move day, received call that they were running an hour late. Once they showed up, the crew did not look or act professional. After 6 hours they were still moving my items our of the first apartment. I live there by myself and did not have that much stuff. The 3 times I checked on them I found the supervisor in the truck on the phone and the the other 2 workers visiting. I called and asked to speak to the owner, I got a call back from Greg. I explained that how unhappy I was with the service and let him know as a business owner with employees that their level of effort was unacceptable. He stated, "well you should have had them move you" Requested a call back from owner who did call me. He accepted no responsibility for the poor service or how long it was taking. His only concern was with getting paid. After a 9 hour move and $1200 bill, I was left with damaged items and boxes e everywhere. I still had to go back to old apartment and get items that were left behind. If I can help steer one customer away from this business this review was worth the effort. Please stay away. read more

Always Helpful Movers has been always helpful to me, my business and my family (and friends to whom I have recommended them) since I discovered this company in 2011. I have relied on them for eight moves in five years (most recently last month) and always been delighted with every aspect of their work. These have been all levels of effort from a single item to a houseful across country. They have come on short notice, as well as with longer planning, and in every case, the crew has been on time and worked quickly but carefully to get the job done. They've moved into and out of houses, apartments and an office for me, prepared items for storage, and even unpacked and reassembled them two years later from photos they kept of the pieces and their disassembly (no kidding). They have accommodated the unexpected -- sometimes my fault for poor planning, sometimes more stairs, bad loading docks, tight quarters or rain or bitter cold or terrible heat -- with patience and steadiness. Their price is low by industry standards, as far as I can discover, and I have always felt i got more than I paid for. If you want a very tight bid, you can have it and they will stick to it (unless you make changes in what you want done, of course). More than anything, I value the spirit they have brought to every move. Every person has been friendly, courteous, focused and careful. And relentless. In decades of working with businesses of all kinds, I can say I have rarely seen anyone work as hard as these folks have worked for me. I have felt humbled by the effort they put out on my behalf. I would recommend them without qualification to anyone. The moving company essentially funds the missionary work of the owner and that mission of service certainly shapes the work the moving crews do (as well as their behavior -- these are not folks who cuss when they pick up a heavy item), but they are not evangelical and you won't get information about that work unless you ask for it specifically. They will, however, accept any furniture you don't want as 501(c)3 donation and provide a tax receipt for it; it goes to their warehouse and is sold with proceeds going toward mission work. And in my experience with eight different crews, they have been without exception trustworthy men of character and dignity, who take themselves and the work they do seriously. I have learned from them a lot about packing to move and a lot about working past challenges. I recommend them highly. read more

I contacted them about moving the top to my china cabinet from the garage into my dining room. Called & scheduled on a Tue. at 9:30 am for 2 PM on Wed. Within half an hour they called me back & said they had a cancellation. Asked if they could come at 11:30, I said Noon was better. At 12:15 I called because no one showed up & got the answer machine so left a message. At 12:30 I called again & left another message. At 1:04 I called again & got told a story about the morning job ran over. I said, I thought it had been cancelled? I also said, if that was the case why didn't anyone call me. So needless to say, my appt. for 2 PM on Wed. was going to stand. At 1:52 PM I got a call to confirm my 3 PM appt. I said no its a 2. They said can we do it at 2:30. I figured maybe they were concerned the drive time would take longer so I said fine, hoping they would show up earlier than 2:30. My husband and I both had conf. calls at 3 PM. At 2:35 PM when they were not here I called again. A lady said she would call the owner, have him call them and she would call me back. At 2:45 PM they showed up. They were sitting around in the truck and we opened the garage and double front door and I looked at the truck then my watch. They saw me and got out. I told them they were extremely late and that we had 15 minutes to get the top to my china cabinet moved. They got it moved in within 10 minutes. That is not the point though. The movers did a great job getting it in and set up for us & they got it done 5 minutes before our conf. calls. I paid my bill of $140 for 1 hour minimum and $80 travel fee.....which I think is way too much for the timing issues I had to deal with. When I took those remaining 5 minutes to call and complain they made all kinds of excuses for both days. No remorse at all. We recently completed the last half of a two part long-distance move with this company. As before, everything went as planned, efficiently and professionally. The crews that were loading and unloading were great--all well-trained, working together as a team, super friendly and helpful with anything that came up. This is a Christian owned and operated business and it shows in the atmosphere and attitude of all the crew. The service was outstanding and the cost very reasonable. I have been a happy customer of Always Helpful Movers for the past 6 years. In 2011, they moved my entire household to their storage facilities in Lees Summit. At that time, I thought I would be storing my goods with them for 6 months. Little did I know that they would hold my personal possessions for a full 6 years. The recent move of my goods on 10/19/17 went great! I had been in communication with John and Greg about the move weeks in advance. John, as usual, did everything he could to get my items to me (it was a long distance move) as quickly and safely as possible. He offered me a very good price for the move, based on the 6 years of storage I'd had with his company. John is a good man and is willing to work with you to assure you are happy. I also found this trait in Greg, who was the driver and the two local gentleman he hired to move my goods. I was moving my goods into a shipping container and had special requests. Greg and his crew met my requests and went out of their way to make things just the way I wanted them. I would highly recommend Always Helpful Movers to anyone who is looking for moving and/or storage needs. 6 years....and not a single complaint. You can't beat that! read more

So I'm glad I finally found a Yelp page for this moving company..They are the worst moving company that I have ever experienced.. I used them in 2012 to move from kc to St. Louis and not only did they charge me an outrageous price. They arrived 4 hours late, tried to scam me from my money particular a man that works for the name Johnny, cussed during their move. They took over 8 hours to get from kc to St. Louis and missed my loading time for my storage so that I had to get a new storage company and left the belongings in a truck that my fiancé and I had to move everything ourselves the next day because they didn't make it. The owner was down right, rude sexist towards woman and hateful.. He was disrespectful and stated that his drivers going slow was my fault and then his drivers asked to keep some of the items I was throwing away. They are the biggest rip off of a moving company and I would never use them or recommend them to anyone. read more

Used them September 2016. They arrived over 3 hours late. Each time I called I was told they would arrive in 15 minutes but that went on for over 3 hours. The movers damaged my great grandmothers steamer trunk which had previously been restored (I am disabled and did not see the damage until a few days after the move). Having moved eight previous times, I have had movers that have qualified as the Good, the Bad , and the Ugly! Given my experience with Always Helpful Movers, I would add a new category as they were great!! Having used the major moving companies before, it was truly a breath of fresh air to work with a team that really cared. From Alex providing the estimate to John the owner personally transporting my 30 year old classic from Kansas City here to Atlanta, and all that were involved in between, the experience related to the whole move was a very positive one!!
